InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ My Angel In Hell ❯ Fallen on Deaf Ears. ( Chapter 1 )

Inuyasha snarled, rolling into a tight ball as another wave of pain shot through his body. It felt as though his very skin was crawling, burning, searing his entire being.
He felt a hand land upon his back, rubbing comfortingly, a soft voice accompanying the action.
Kagome.
She was speaking to him, he wished to answer her, but his throat felt sealed shut, swollen to the point that he could barely swallow, much less speak.
He managed a choked growl, saliva frothing at his lips as he struggled to communicate. Kagome withdrew her hand as though seared by his touch.
She said something to the others, urgency and fear tinged her voice, though he could tell she tried to hide her emotions. Miroku stepped into view, along with Sango, a frightened fox kit clinging to her ankle.
The demon exterminator examined Inuyasha curiously, though the worry was evident upon her face. She looked to Kagome, speaking words, that for some reason, eluded him.
Inuyasha could feel Kagome tense behind him, something Sango had said worried her deeply. The young miko stepped precariously around the prone hanyou, kneeling in front of him.
He heard Miroku’s warning, urgent, but Kagome ignored him.
Pulling forth a tissue she wiped the saliva from his chin and around his mouth. He gave her a grateful moan, catching her eyes and attempting to tell her everything he could not say in words.
She seemed to understand, and smiled at him, a piteous look gracing her face as she ran a hand across his cheek. His eyes drifted closed at her touch, though when she felt how hot his skin was, she moved her hand to his forehead, pushing back his sweat drenched bangs.
Kagome stood, looking to the others and speaking quickly she pointed to Kilala, the tiny demon cat mewed and transformed into her larger form.
Suddenly, all three of them were moving in on him, they lifted him carefully onto Kilala, Kagome climbing on behind him. The others nodded as she spoke to them urgently.
Then they were flying, the strong feline carrying them swiftly to Kaede’s village. They arrived shortly, dashing into the old miko’s hut, rousing her from slumber.
She shuffled forward, immediately wakened by the fear on Kagome’s face and the sick hanyou. Kaede helped lower Inuyasha to the floor, then ran to fetch her medicine bag.
When she returned she found Kagome kneeling on the floor, Inuyasha’s head lying upon her lap, as she stroked his hair.
Kaede spotted the froth spilling from the corner of his mouth and urgently spoke to the young miko “Back away, Kagome, he is plagued with rabies.” the girl looked up at her fearfully and glanced quickly at the hanyou in her lap.
Not moving from her place, she asked “Rabies? Are you sure?” the ancient woman nodded gravely and handed Kagome a cloth to wipe the foam away from the fevered Hanyou’s lips.
“Has he been in a battle with a particularly crazed demon? One perhaps, that bit him?” Kagome nodded slowly, as though in a daze. Kaede urged her “Quickly, girl, show me the bite!”
The young miko shook her head, attempting to clear her thoughts, as she grasped Inuyasha’s right leg. She pulled up his kimono exposing a bloodied calf, festered and hot with infection.
Kagome moved her hand up to cover her mouth, she stuttered slowly “I-I had offered to clean it for him. A-After the battle, he said he would be alright. You know how he is, always talking big, I didn’t think anything of it. I-I should’ve insisted on checking it.”
Kaede shook her head “Ye cannot blame yourself. He is a stubborn fool. Now we must tend to him as best we can.”
Kagome barely seemed to hear the old woman as she looked to Inuyasha, catching his golden gaze. She saw the apologetic look in his eyes and she turned to Kaede asking hopefully “Can you heal him then?”
The old woman sighed as she met the pleading gray gaze of Kagome.
She nodded “I’ll do my best.”
