My One and Only
Chapter 1: Kagome's Desire and Inuyasha's Promise
"Inuyasha, can we please stop and rest for a while? We have been searching for the jewel shards for days and still no sign of them or Naraku." Kagome stated exhausted. Inuyasha didn't bother to acknowledge the question and continued walking; his long, silver hair swaying gently has he walked. Kagome was beginning to get annoyed, "Fine! If he won't stop on his own then I'll make him!" she thought angrily. Kagome walked up to Inuyasha with a huge smile on her face and fire burning in her eyes, "Inuyasha" she said sweetly. Inuyasha stopped on front of Kagome knowing what was about to happen next. "Oh no" he thought grievously. "SIT SIT SIT!!!!." Inuyasha's prayer beads glowed and sent him pummeling into the ground. Kagome turned around to see her friends Sango, Miroku and Shippo. Shippo jumped off Kilala and took his place on Kagome's shoulder. With a cheerful smile Kagome began to set up camp. "Sango and Miroku will you please help set up while Inuyasha is still recovering?" They nodded in agreement.
After finally being able to stand up after his three sits, Inuyasha headed back to where in the Inu group set up camp. "Damn her" though Inuyasha pissed off. Inuyasha found the group settling in as Sango prepared dinner. "Hey Kagome! What the hell is wrong with you!" Inuyasha's temper was flaring when Kagome decided not to even pay attention to him. Using his demonic speed he landed right in front her. Kagome's honey-brown eyes widened as she saw Inuyasha shaking with an anger she couldn't even imagine was possible. Kagome began to feel her own temper rising. Her chest began to heave up and down causing the hanyou to show a flicker of concern in his amber eyes. "I'm not going to fight with him again. I don't want to do something that he'll regret and make him even angrier." She thought. Kagome let out an exasperated sigh and shook her head. Kagome shrugged as she passed Inuyasha, "Had you listened to me and take my feelings into consideration Inuyasha you wouldn't have been sat." she said with hurt in her voice. Inuyasha's silver ears flattened against his head. Kagome turned around and saw his action. "He's sorry?" she wondered. "It's ok Inuyasha." She said melancholy. The hanyou's ears erected once again and looked at Kagome, "What do you mean its ok!? You're the one who sat me, remember!" Kagome's anger flared up again. "You are such a jerk!!"
A couple of feet away from Inuyasha and Kagome sat Sango, Miroku and Shippo eating their ramen looking at the pair with sighs. "Just when you think they're going to have moment Inuyasha ruins it" said Shippo with a sigh, "Will he ever learn?" he thought. Shippo hungrily ate the rest of his ramen and cuddled next to Kilala. Sango edged over to Miroku, "Do you think Inuyasha and Kagome will ever learn not to fight with each other?" she asked quietly. Miroku looked over to the still arguing couple, "I hope so my dear Sango." Sango nodded and lowered her head to hide the blush Miroku's comment had caused. Then she felt his hand on her butt. SMACK! Inuyasha and Kagome looked over at the spot where Sango was sitting; shaking with anger and next to her was a smug unconscious monk. "Do adults always act this way?" thought Shippo. With that last thought the little kitsune pup fell asleep in Kilala's warm fur. "Good idea Shippo. We all need some sleep after today's drama" stated Kagome. "Feh, whatever" Inuyasha jumped into a branch on the nearest tree. Sango fell asleep next to Kilala and Shippo with Miroku not far behind from her. Kagome took out her yellow sleeping bag and placed it under the tree in which Inuyasha was perched. "Good night Inuyasha" she whispered softly with a yawn. Once Inuyasha made sure everybody in camp was asleep, his eyes lowered to Kagome's angelic, peaceful face, "Good night Kagome" he whispered to the wind. With the last thought Inuyasha closed his amber orbs and slept.

"Inuyasha! Inuyasha! Where are you?!" yelled Kagome. Kagome had been wandering through Inuyasha's forest for almost 3 hours and still no sign on him. Tears began to swell up in Kagome's honey-brown orbs. With one last feeble attempt she screamed out his name, "INUYASHA!" Still no answer and no sign of him. "No, Inuyasha would never leave me" she thought, but then something struck her, "he must with her, with Kikyo." The tears began to flow freely down her pale cheeks. She fell upon her knees not able to stand, "NO, Inuyasha would never leave me alone!" she yelled to the night. A cold breeze passed Kagome causing a shiver to run down her spine. "Oh but he has young miko." That's when she felt it, another person's aura. Kagome turned around to see a young dead priestess that resembles her, "Kikyo" she whispered. Behind Kikyo appeared Inuyasha with his arms snaked around her waist. Kagome's eyes widened, "Inuyasha" she thought sadly. Tears continued to take their path streaming down Kagome's face.
Kikyo stared at her reincarnation with cold, hardened eyes, but never abandoning Inuyasha's tight embrace. "As you can see miko, Inuyasha's loyalty and LOVE belongs to me, not to my reincarnation." Kagome tear-filled eyes locked onto Kikyo's hardened ones as she finally found her strength to stand up. "No, that's not true! Inuyasha would never leave me alone. He vowed to protect me!" Kagome's retaliation meant nothing to the dead priestess. "Don't make me laugh. You are nothing more than my reincarnation, an extension of me. Inuyasha only vowed to protect you because he has always seen you as my reincarnation, as Kikyo, never as Kagome." Kikyo spat every word out, using as much hate and malice on her last word spoken. Kagome shook her head trying to block out Kikyo's words. "No Kikyo, No, I refuse to believe that. Inuyasha sees me for me, not because I am your reincarnation." Kikyo laughed maliciously, "Naïve girl, why don't you just ask Inuyasha yourself." Kikyo slowly departed herself from Inuyasha's embrace, "Go ahead young miko. Let all your dreams, illusions and heart be crushed." Kagome looked at Inuyasha, "His eyes are so void of emotion when he looks at me. Can it be that Kikyo's right?" Kagome shook her head, "No, Inuyasha would never abandon me." She took cautious steps toward the hanyou, and then quickened her pace when she saw it was not a trick. Tears streamed down her face and her raven locks swayed behind her as she ran towards Inuyasha. "Inuyasha" she whispered as she wrapped her arms around him, but the response was not what she expected. Inuyasha emitted a low growl warning her to let go. Inuyasha's clawed hands came in contact with her arms and threw her to the ground. Kagome looked at Inuyasha with hurt and confusion evident in her eyes. "I have no desire to be with you Kagome. Kikyo is right, I never saw you as nothing more than Kikyo's reincarnation. You were nothing more than a mirror which I used to see Kikyo's reflection in. My place is Kikyo, not with you." Inuyasha's words broke Kagome's heart. She could feel herself being ripped apart. She brought her hands to cover her ears, "No! No! No!" Kagome shook her head violently as though trying to free herself from his words. "I was only seen as a part of Kikyo" Kagome shook violently as more tears threatened to fall down her face. "Come my love, it is time for us to embrace death together. Come with me to Hell Inuyasha" Kikyo cooed. Inuyasha made his way back into Kikyo's embrace. Kagome could see a portal opening in the earth. "No, No, Inuyasha don't go!" Kagome opened her mouth but the words didn't come out. "I can't speak," she thought grievously. Inuyasha leaned forward and placed a kiss on Kikyo's lips, which she passionately returned. Fire exploded from the portal and Kikyo and Inuyasha began to descend. The further the kissing couple descended the smaller the portal got until it finally disappeared leaving no traces of the couple that was just there. Kagome looked in horror as the portal completely sealed itself leaving her alone in the forest. Unable to control herself after what seemed an eternity of watching she let the words etching in her mind, "No! Inuyasha! Don't leave me!" Kagome felt herself go numb and fell into a deep state of unconsciousness.

Kagome was thrashing about her sleeping bag mumbling "Inuyasha don't leave me." The cries in Kagome's restless were loud enough only for a demon or hanyou to hear. Inuyasha's shot open as he heard the restlessness and cries of the young below him. He leapt down from the tree and landed softly beside Kagome not wanting to wake the others up. The night was not through. Inuyasha's nose picked up the scent of salted tears. He looked down at Kagome's face and saw she had a trail of tears streaming down her cheeks. "She's crying?" he thought confused. However, his thoughts were interrupted when Kagome's cries began to resurface, "Inuyasha", Inuyasha's eyes widened in shock when he heard her speak his name in her restless sleep, "Inuyasha, don't leave me." "She's having a nightmare that I am going to leave her." Inuyasha picked up Kagome and cradled her into his arms. He rocked her back and forth trying to comfort her. "My mother used to do this to me when I had nightmares, maybe it'll work for Kagome too." Once Inuyasha sensed that Kagome's heartbeat was normal and was once again peacefully sleeping he lowered his lips to ears. "I promise you Kagome, I will never leave you. I vowed to protect you and now I vow to never abandon you." The night continued to pass and Inuyasha still held Kagome tightly secured in his arms. "I will always be your side Kagome" Inuyasha said before he finally drifted into a dreamless sleep.
