InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Needing and Wanting are Two very Different things. ❯ Kisses and Warnings ( Chapter 1 )

Inuyasha sat in the God tree contemplating his choices. Kagome had been gone for three days, today she was due back

and he was counting the hours, even though he’d never let the exterminator and monk, back in the village know that.

Inuyasha considered going through the well to bring her back himself, but thought about how angry she was when he

took her away early from her precious “tests”.

His ears pinned to his head at the thought of how many times she’d “sit” him if he carried her away from school right in

the middle of class. Inuyasha growled to himself and dropped his head into his hands, he was a particularly inpatient

creature, and didn’t and never had waited for anyone. Except Kagome.

Inuyasha sighed, and in that small intake and release of breath, he smelled it. It, being the most beloved smell to have

ever graced the hanyou’s nose. Flowery and light. Kagome.

He dropped from the enormous tree and dashed towards the well that connected the past to the future. Hanyou to

Miko. Affections touching across time. Inuyasha stopped at the edge and jumped onto the small ledge, to see the faint

silhouette of a thin girl with a hulking yellow back pack.

She hefted the pack and bravely gazed at the long ascent before her, she grasped one of the thick vines running over the

entire interior of the ancient well. As she approached the surface she saw Inuyasha there, his heart skipped a beat when

she smiled at him and said “Hello Inuyasha!” he placed an annoyed smirk on his face, he couldn’t let her see that he was

happy to see her.

Kagome threw the pack over the edge and let the momentum carry her the rest of the way over, she scrambled to her

feet and eyed Inuyasha with an almost dreamy look on her face. He watched her suspiciously, as he lifted her bag off the

ground and easily carried it over one shoulder.

He began to lead the way to the village when Kagome grabbed the back of his haori “What?!” he asked impatiently as

he turned to face her, she drew close to him, stepping against his chest “I missed you.” Inuyasha looked at her strangely,

not sure what to say.

The miko grabbed hold of the front of his haori, pulling herself up to catch his lips in a kiss. His golden eyes grew wide,

as he sank into the kiss. As soon as it had begun, it ended, she released his haori and let her hand trail down his chest as

she walked away towards the village.

He stood there, as if roots held him in place, and panted lightly from the kiss he had just shared with Kagome. He

watched her retreating figure with confusion, and leapt into the trees above to follow her on her way back to the village,

deep in thought.

When they arrived, The others welcomed Kagome happily. Shippo, the young fox kit who had accepted the miko as his

surrogate mother, leapt into her arms and stared intently at the hanyou acting strangely in the corner as he asked “What’s

up with dog breath?” Kagome glanced at Inuyasha, and smirked “Actually, he doesn’t have dog breath, he tasted sort of

minty.”

The actions of everyone in the small hut stopped, Inuyasha’s jaw dropped. ‘What the hell?!’ he thought to himself as

Kagome continued to look past the kit in her arms and directly at….him. He wasn’t sure if he should enjoy the dreamy

look in her gray eyes or fear it, he settled on saying a very disgruntled “Feh.” Sango and Miroku exchanged confused

glances, but ignored what Kagome had just said.

They sat down to eat, as the shadows stretched long in the trees. Kagome settled down directly beside Inuyasha,

scooting close against him, causing the hanyou to visibly gulp. Miroku watched the pair closely, amused by their

behavior, but confused about what had caused such a drastic change in their actions towards each other.

Kagome gave Inuyasha double servings of his favorite food, Raman noodles. As she leaned over to pour more into his

dish she climbed onto his lap, spreading her knees on either side of his. He panted and looked around nervously,

attempting to avoid her piercing gray gaze. When Kagome finished serving him, she leaned in and licked his cheek, then

slid off his lap, neatly landing beside him.

Sango, Kaede, and Shippo, jaws long been dropped, watched in confusion and shock at Kagome’s strange actions.

Miroku laughed quietly to himself at Inuyasha’s scarlet face and Kagome’s wistful gleam. The lecherous monk smirked

as Sango asked nervously “Uh, Kagome, are you feeling alright?” the young miko nodded, but never took her eyes off

Inuyasha.

“Oh, yes, Sango, I’m fine, And actually I can think of someone in this hut that is looking REALLY fine today.”

Miroku bit his tongue to keep from exploding with laughter at the hues of red Inuyasha’s face was experiencing. The

hanyou squirmed uncomfortably and looked everywhere but at Kagome, who was hanging onto his knee and resting her

chin on his thigh.

Kaede stood and began gathering dishes, the ancient miko watched out of the corner of her eye as Kagome followed

Inuyasha to where he normally slept and lay beside him. Shippo crawled into Kagome’s sleeping bag and Sango lay

down on the other side of the fire as Miroku approached Kagome.

The young miko sat up as the monk approached, Miroku gestured for her to stand as he led her outside. He turned to

her when they reached a safe distance away “My dear Kagome, I was just wondering if I could ask you, if anything has

changed between you and Inuyasha?” Kagome blushed suddenly and stammered “I-I haven’t any idea what you’re

talking about.”

Miroku’s deep blue gaze pierced her and she realized he had just read her with one look. “I’ve been having these

strong----feelings lately, it’s like a voice in the back of my head is telling me what to do. I-I’ve never felt like this before.

Whenever I look at Inuyasha it’s like I black out. I can’t remember anything after that until I find myself somewhere

completely different.”

Miroku gave her a puzzled look, eyebrows furrowed, fingers dancing restlessly up and down his staff, as the light jingling

of the rings at the top of the weapon sang into the silence. “I don’t know what’s wrong with you Kagome. I just warn

you, I know that dog demons have irregular behavior patterns, If Inuyasha’s instincts take over and he believes you to be

his mate, we could have some problems. He’d become deathly territorial and vicious, He’d never let go of you, he might

even revert to full demon as his instincts take a full drive.”

Kagome nodded fearfully as she whispered quietly, her head in her hands “Miroku, I-I don’t know how I can stop

myself. It’s like I’m not even alive when he’s around. I’m in my head and I can see everything that’s going on but I can’t

stop.” She shook her head slowly, echoing what she just said “I can’t stop.”

The monk placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, deciding it wasn’t a good time to try to cop a feel. Not with

Kagome so distressed, she might kill him. And if she didn’t Inuyasha would. Miroku led the way back into the hut, with

Kagome behind.

The young miko grabbed her sleeping bag and dragged it gently over towards Sango to avoid waking the fox kit within.

She then crawled into it, upon Miroku’s advice of moving away from Inuyasha in hopes that the hanyou wouldn’t be

affected by Kagome’s change of behavior through out the day.

They were wrong. Very wrong.
