InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Needing and Wanting are Two very Different things. ❯ A Mate ( Chapter 2 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
The next morning Kagome woke to find herself in a completely different location.

A warm and none the less comforting location, a location she’d been dreaming about for ages and dying to be, yet given

the circumstances and Miroku’s warning , she found it was one of the last places she wanted to be at the moment.

Kagome was snuggled close against Inuyasha’s chest, wrapped in his outer haori, his arms wrapped tightly around her,

his legs folded beneath.

She took a quick glance down and saw that they were high in a tree, she could see the hut not far off. Her cheek rested

upon Inuyasha’s chest, above his heart, so that she could catch each and every steady beat as his chest rose and fell

lightly with each breath.

Kagome looked up and saw that his face was peaceful in sleep, and he was still gorgeous ‘Whoa Kagome! Keep on

subject here. To much of that and you may black out again.’ the young miko said to herself as she gently shook her head

to clear her thoughts.

That was when she saw it, she blinked hard to make sure she wasn’t seeing things, and oh, did she wish she was seeing

things.

Streaked across the sides of her beloved hanyou’s cheeks was a stripe of magenta, one on each side. She then noticed

the fang, overhanging his upper lip and resting on his lower, just the bare tip of one. That tip was enough to send her

heart pounding like a jackhammer, and too her increasing horror, Inuyasha woke, his eyes gleaming scarlet in his full

demon form.

He stretched a little, then looked to Kagome leaning forward to give her a sniff and a affectionate lick on the cheek.

She froze and he did as well, he could smell the fear on her and his eyebrows furrowed in confusion, she shouldn’t be

scared of him, he was her mate. He nuzzled her neck, a reassuring purr rumbling in his throat, the scent of her fear

quickly diminishing.

Kagome relaxed a bit, this demon Inuyasha seemed to care for her, she reached up for one of his ears, it was clearly in

front of her, and gently stroked the feather soft triangle of white puppy cuteness. His purr increased as he leaned towards

her to gain better access, Kagome smiled as she continued to rub his ear.

The young miko jumped when a voice sounded from below, she snuggled deeper into Inuyasha, pulling his haori close in

hopes that they hadn’t spotted her.

“Kagome? Are you up there?” she heard Sango call worriedly, Miroku called after her “Lady Kagome? Are you

there?” her heart skipped a beat as another voice reached her ears. “Kagome?! I can smell you, are you ok?” It was

Shippo.

She held tight to the hanyou before her, if the little fox kit saw her in Inuyasha’s arms, he might ask questions. Questions

even she didn’t have an answer to yet. Kagome called down to them, hoping they might be at peace knowing she was

safe, and leave it at that.

“I’m alright you guys, I was just---um, up here with Inuyasha. I thought I could sense a jewel shard nearby and he

brought me up here so I could get a better feel for it’s location.” Her attempts were futile when she heard tiny claws

scaling the trunk.

Kagome’s heart was pounding as she heard the kit come closer, Inuyasha smelt her fear and uneasiness and prepared to

kill whatever was causing it. The Inu-hanyou clutched Kagome to his chest, leaning forward, poised to leap down to the

ground to meet the disruption causing his mate fear.

The miko in his arms, wound her fingers even tighter into his haori, preparing for the descent to the forest floor.

But it didn’t come, Shippo arrived too quickly. The small kitsune appeared upon the branch and immediately saw

something wasn’t right. He approached Inuyasha, who immediately began growling and baring his fangs, his ears

flattened to his head, at the male youkai.

Shippo froze, his jade eyes questioning as he spotted Kagome’s apologetic gaze from within Inuyasha’s grasp.

“K-Kagome? What’s going on?” the young miko shook her head “Inuyasha has reverted to his youkai form and I think

he believes I’m his mate. Stay back, he might attack you or the others.”

Shippo stepped closer “N-No, I’ve got to get you away from him, he might hurt you.”

Inuyasha advanced at Shippo’s movement, lowering to all fours, as his claws lengthened and his growling reached a

peak, his hackles rising, eyes burning crimson.

The hanyou shifted Kagome behind him, shielding her protectively. Kagome urged the kit “No, I’ll be fine, he would

never hurt me. It’s you guys I’m worried about. Now go, and tell Kaede what’s going on. Maybe she’ll know something

we can do.” Shippo faltered, giving Kagome one last glance before turning to scurry down the tree.

Kagome felt Inuyasha’s muscles tense as a deep snarl emitted from him, scooping her in his arms and flying off the

branch after the little kit.

The miko clutched his neck, yelling as they landed “No, Inuyasha! Leave him alone!” the hanyou snarled, ignoring his

mate’s pleas, dashing off in the direction of the scent of Shippo and the others.

Kagome could do nothing but hold on for her life as they flew over treetops, bouncing from branch to branch.

They finally landed on the outskirts of the village, Kagome clenched even tighter around his neck. Feeling the cool

wooden ‘Sit’ beads under her fingers, she didn’t dare say the word while he was youkai. She had done it the first

transformation, but after that it hadn’t worked, It only ever seemed to make him madder.

Inuyasha inhaled deeply, obviously catching the scent of the others, he growled in satisfaction, dashing down towards

Kaede’s hut. They burst into the small dwelling, finding all of them gathered around the fire. Sango stood immediately,

hefting her boomerang weapon, Miroku held his staff tightly, sutras clenched in his fist.

Shippo stood beside Kirara, in battle cat form. Inuyasha slid Kagome down to he floor, placing her behind him, despite

her struggles. “Inuyasha, no! leave them alone!” Kagome dragged on his haori, but his snarl increased and he flexed his

claws, growling menacingly. Miroku looked past the snarling hanyou, at the miko behind him saying calmly “Kagome,

I’m going to throw some sutras at Inuyasha. They will paralyze him and allow us to keep him under control.” the young

miko nodded and clamped her eyes shut, pushing against Inuyasha’s back.

She heard him yelp as the sutras plastered against him, and heard Miroku’s steady chanting as he secured the spells.

Inuyasha’s body went rigid and he toppled over upon the floor. Kagome knelt by the prone hanyou, stroking his hair and

comforting his whines and growls.

She met Miroku’s gaze as he and the others gathered around “Do those hurt him very badly?” the monk shook his head

“I do believe that they sting and burn quite a bit, but it can’t be helped. We need to find a way to return him to normal.”

Sango stepped forward “What pushed him into this?” Miroku raised his eyes to meet Kagome’s and she nodded.

The monk seemed uncomfortable explaining a topic he thought of constantly, “Kagome’s recent behavior change has

um…aroused, certain emotions in Inuyasha. He is now behaving how he would if she was his mate. Extremely protective

and vicious. For now he is unstable and cannot recognize friend from foe.”

Shippo looked at Miroku with a disbelieving gaze “Ya mean Inuyasha and Kagome are mates?” Kagome blushed

hearing it come out of the young kits mouth. Sango sensed her discomfort and said “Shippo, Inuyasha isn’t himself, you

and Kilala should go outside and play so we can make him better.”

She nodded to the small demon cat at her side, who mewed and ran beside Shippo, guiding him out the hut. The young

fox grumbled as he followed his demon friend “They always keep me out of the good stuff.” Inuyasha growled deeply as

Shippo passed under the rush mat hanging as a door and the kit turned worriedly, seeing Kagome lean over the

deranged hanyou, stroking his brow, and crooning soothingly. Shippo sighed as Kilala pulled gently on his sleeve “I hope

this works out, for Kagome’s sake, if no one else’s.”
