Chapter 5

She sat in the quiet room, the room she was slowly beginning to despise. Kaede had told her to stay in this room all by herself. She said she seemed to be getting worse. Honestly, Kagome couldn't imagine how she could get worse when the poison was suppose to be wearing off, but it seemed that there was nothing for her to do but wait until it ended.

She hasn't seen Inu Yasha since the night before when he had stayed with her until she fell asleep. She couldn't do any more than kiss him briefly and hold his hand, and yet, that was all she needed. But now she needed to see him again. Her mind was running wild.

Maybe it was the fact that she was trapped in this dark room all by her lonesome with nobody to talk to. That could truly drive anybody mad.

To top it off, she was worried about Sango. Inu Yasha had said that she told him the whole story, but what if she was getting worse too? Was she in the same state that Kagome herself was in?

She stared up at the black ceiling, almost expecting a change, but it hadn't. It was still the same old ceiling she'd been staring at blankly for hours, waiting for anybody to enter the room. She tried to turn her head to look towards the small window, but a sharp pain shot through her neck and back.

That can't be good.

She tried to raise her hand, but the pain shot up her arm, and when she tried to shriek in agony, her throat closed and she gagged for air. It seemed that maybe moving wasn't the best idea at the moment.

Another few hours went by and nobody came to visit her. It must have been about two or so in the afternoon by now. She wanted somebody to stop by to just make sure she was still living. Not just anybody. She wanted to see Inu Yasha. She hadn't done more than kiss him, and while that made her the happiest girl in that time last night, she needed more now. She needed him. He was the first and last person on her mind. She hated it and loved it at the same time.

Her vision suddenly blurred. She blinked and it was back to normal. Blinked again, it blurred again. But this time when she closed her eyes to clear her vision, Inu Yasha's face painted the insides of her eyelids. She opened her eyes and her vision was still fuzzy. Blinked again and it got worse. And now every time she closed her eyes, she saw Inu Yasha more and more clearly.

She needed him and this wasn't making it any easier.

A warm feeling began to grow in her lower belly and she smiled as she closed her eyes to see his face again. The warm feeling was getting hot and spreading up and down her body, swelling in her chest. It began to get hotter until it began to burn. She opened her eyes from shock. The heat was becoming unbearable. She closed her eyes and his face was gone.

No, she thought. Where'd he go?!

The heat seemed to sink back to her lower stomach and was making her need go crazy.

She needed to find him.

She rose to her feet through all the pain and stood for a minute, hoping the muscle pain would go away. She thought of only Inu Yasha and it seemed to fade. She headed for where she remembered the door to be. The only thing she could see was fuzzy yellow light when she let the door open.

She heard voices, too many to separate in her head. She wobbled past blurs of color and voices that all seemed to sound like his the more she tried to differentiate them.

“Kagome!” Inu Yasha's voice said in shock as another blur ran to her.

“Inu Yasha!” She chirped happily as she wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into an extremely close hug. The heat in her stomach grew stronger and seemed to be pulling her closer to him. She liked it.

“Kagome, are you alright? You should really lay down.”

All of the other voices seemed to fade away. All she needed was this. She buried her face in the crook of his neck and kissed his collarbone. She smiled at his shocked reaction and kissed him again, leaving a trail up to his ear. He pushed her away and she gripped his shoulders to keep herself standing.

“Miroku!” A voice yelled. It was Inu Yasha, but if he was standing in front of her, then why did he sound so far away? “What the hell do you think you're doing!?”

“She just walked out of the hut and… and…” the Inu Yasha in front of her stuttered.

Another blur appeared out of the bright yellow light and grabbed her arm, dragging her back to where she knew the hut was. She was so confused but too aroused by Inu Yasha's scent to care. Once back inside the hut, she turned to him and pulled him closer. “I need you,” she whispered exotically into his ear.

“Kagome, lay down,” he demanded.

She found her bed and stretched out on it. It was so rough, too stiff to sleep on. She reached for where she believed Inu Yasha was and found his kimono, snagging it and pulling him to her on her cot. He landed sharply next to her. “What has gotten into you?!” He snapped.

“You,” she giggled with a smile.

There was a long pause before he spoke again. “Listen, if you go back to sleep, we'll pick this up later, okay?”

“Noooooo,” she whined like a child. “I need you now.” She put on her saddest frown she could conjure.

“No, just go back to sleep, because you'll get sick if we try anything now, and then we'll never be able to be this close again.” Something in his voice sounded like he was lying, but she didn't want to chance it. She smiled at him and pulled him close to her as she dozed off into a deep sleep.

She woke to the darkness and a sharp pain the filled her whole midsection. She screamed in agony. She opened her eyes and Inu Yasha was gone. She screamed again. Inu Yasha, Kaede, and Miroku rushed into the room. Inu Yasha rolled her from her side to her back. “What's wrong?!” He asked her. “Kagome, what's wrong?!”

She continued whimpering, trying to hold in the screams that hung in her throat. She pointed to her stomach. Tears were coating her face and she looked up at Inu Yasha for help.

He looked down at her in pity, then turned to Kaede for an answer. “What can we do?! Have you ever heard of this before?!”

Kaede looked down at them. “Yes, I have heard of it, but I've never heard of a cure. I don't even know what's causing her extreme pain,” she said hurriedly as she began pulling through her herbs for something that would relieve her pain.

“He's doing this to her,” Sango said as she walked into the room, using a walking stick to hold her up. Kagome and Inu Yasha both looked at her as she knelt down beside Kagome, taking her hand. “You just have to pull through this,” she said sadly.

“How do you know this isn't going to kill her?!” Inu Yasha snapped at her.

Kagome reached out her other hand and grabbed his tightly, tears pouring down her face and fear in her eyes.

“Last night, he said `If I don't have you, you will not survive the next night.'” Sango replied.

“Well, it's not like he can now, since he's dead,” Miroku growled.

“Kagome's not going to die!!” Shippo shrieked at he jumped through the window into Kagome's room.

“No, Shippo, she won't die,” Sango said comfortingly.

“How do you know!?” Inu Yasha barked.

“Inu Yasha! Yelling won't solve anything!” Miroku snapped back.

“I know because the spell that he was trying to cast wouldn't even last! He was trying to pull off being you, right?” She asked Inu Yasha. “Yet, he it didn't work fully. She overcame it. If that spell didn't work, then this one won't last either. You just have to stay with her through this,” she said as she took the hand of Kagome's that she was still holding and gave it to Inu Yasha.

Kagome looked up at Inu Yasha through her tear-filled eyes. The pain was unbearable, and she realized that she had been biting her lip only after it began to bleed on the inside. She let out a low yelp and choked on her sobs. Inu Yasha bent over and pulled her into a hug, sitting her up and pulling her close to him. “You'll be okay, Kagome. I promise.”

She cried into his shirt, only minutes later to scream again. The pain wouldn't go away. It was making her dizzy, making everything burry, causing her to lose control

She pulled her arms to her chest

Clenched her eyes shut

Screamed

And fainted.

Her eyes opened. Daylight. Inu Yasha. She'd made it?

He hugged her. Yes, she'd made it.

“I love you so much, Kagome,” he whispered to her. “Don't you ever do that again. Ever!” Her hand was still in one of his, clenched, clammy, and she didn't mind. He'd been holding it all night. That's all that mattered to her. He helped her through.

Oh, there are more to come. Calm down.
