Chapter 3

She stood in the breeze, staring out across the scenery at the setting sun. The wind whipped at her hair and her sundress waved in the glow of the sunrays. She couldn't believe what had happened as she remembered how the day had started so peacefully.

Inu Yasha had left early in the morning, and twenty minutes later, Kagome was already bored. She had left a message on the machine in case her mom called, grabbed her stuff, skipped across the yard and jumped down the well.

Third time's a charm, she thought as she tossed up her bag and climbed back out of the well. She had dressed to impress, because she had already told herself that this time was going to be great. She knew the third time was always said to be the greatest, and if the time she spent with InuYasha the past two days were great, then this was going to be amazing.

She remembered InuYasha meeting her by their normal tree. He had the normal grumpy impression on his face, and when she asked him why, his face lightened up and he hugged her and kissed her, then quickly turned away when their little kitsune friend came plowing through the thick grass. They made it to Kaede's hut and were greeted by the normal crew. Miroku turned to them, and gave Kagome a quick smirk when he noticed how close the two were. Kagome blushed as she walked over to Sango and sat down next to her, smiling at her friend as Sango pretended not to know what was going on.

InuYasha and Kagome had begun their reading lessons again, this time in a small, quiet field they had often come across. Kagome had warned their group not to disturb them, for InuYasha was easily angered by any distraction.

“Cat is spelled C-A-T,” Kagome explained as she wrote it down on a piece of paper.

“Okay,” InuYasha said as he peered intently over her shoulder.

“And dog is spelled D-O-G,” she continued as she still scribbled on her notebook. “Here,” she said, hanging him her notebook and pencil. “You try.”

He looked at her curiously, then took the writing utensil and began to copy what Kagome had written.

“Do you remember the alphabet?” She asked him.

“A, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, and z,” he recited.

“Okay, so let's see if you can write them.”

“I don't remember what they look like. I just remember what most of them sound like,” he said seriously.

She looked over at him and kissed him. “Are you sure you don't remember anything?” She asked.

He shook his head as he leaned towards her for another kiss. His hand held the back of her head as he fell over her into the grass. His other hand was on her waist, letting his fingers slide up and down her side, making her giggle into their kiss. She gripped his face as she pulled him closer, pulling his waist to hers.

InuYasha stopped their kiss and looked around, quickly sitting up again and looking over his notes. She didn't understand until there was a quiet rustle in the woods and Miroku appeared.

“I'm really sorry to disturb you, but we need you back at the Kaede's,” he said to InuYasha.

Back at the hut, Miroku and InuYasha began discussing an evil demon that had been attacking a town not too far away. The villagers had gone to Miroku, hoping he would react before the demon reached their town. He smiled heroically as turned to her and Sango.

“You two had better stay here. This demon enjoys women in the worst way,” he had said.

Kagome went to argue, but InuYasha had given her a look she couldn't quite explain. It was almost as if he was worried about her, so she kept quiet and smiled. “Okay,” she had sighed. “I can make you all a nice dinner,” she laughed.

The two men walked out of the hut and she peered out the window as they ran off into the distance.

She walked out to the field again, writing out the alphabet at the top of each page, hoping InuYasha would be able to copy what she had written. She knew that InuYasha would find her scent and meet her there when the battle ended.

After a few hours of waiting and watching the tree shadows stretch across the grass, Kagome heard a rustle of someone running through the woods.

“Kagome,” Sango gasped, “InuYasha's hurt! Hurry!”

The next thing she remembered was hovering over InuYasha's limp form, staring down at the cuts and scratches that covered him. One went right across his midsection, another across his face, from his forehead, across his eye, and straight across his mouth to his chin. His arms and legs were scratched pretty badly and his hands were covered in demon blood.

Miroku was in the next room, in similar condition, but he was only scratched in various places. He had used his wind tunnel to finish up the demon, but was very weak.

Kagome sat in the room alone with the resting InuYasha. She looked down at him sadly, upset with herself for not going with him. The one time she let him go by himself and she almost lost him. Tears poured down her face as she leaned over and kissed the cut that went across his lips. InuYasha woke up and kissed her back, softly and gently, for that was the only thing his body was allowing him to do.

“I'm not hurt as badly as it seems,” he said to her. “My body's already healing itself, and with the help of Kaede, I should be better by later today.”

Tears continued to pour from her eyes as she looked him up and down.

“Really, Kagome, I'm fine,” he said comfortingly. “Everything's okay.”

She smiled at him, gave him another kiss, and walked out of the hut.

She had been standing among those rocks along the creek for a good three hours now, thinking over what had happened and how scared she had been. Nobody dared to bother her, for they could understand that she wanted to be alone. She shivered and sighed at the sun as it continued to descend in the sky.

“Kagome?” A voice came from behind her.

She didn't turn around, for she knew if she were to face him, she would cry.

“I'm really sorry I got so hurt,” he said, giving his lame attempt to make her feel better.

“It's no problem,” she said, faking a smile over her shoulder. “You're okay, so everything's alright.” Her face dropped and she looked down at her face as tears welled up in her eyes. She shook her head. “Everything's not alright,” she cried. “I was so scared.”

InuYasha walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “God, Kagome, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to scare you and I'll never do it again.”

She turned around, still in his arms, and pressed her face into his chest. “No, you won't,” she demanded through sobs. Her arms slowly slid around his waist. She cried nonstop into his shirt, praying he wouldn't speak anymore. She had wanted him so bad this morning, and for the first time, her excitement had died, for this, the feeling of being loved, was so much better than anything she would every physically feel. She stood there; arms wrapped around her love, and watched the sun set.

Okay, don't kill me ^_^ But this one's been on my mind for a while now. There prolly will be more like one and two, so don't be disappointed!
