Never Forgotten
“No” she whispered, “NO! Not now!” she yelled to the cold dirt floor of the well. She looked up to the roof with tears streaming down her face and cried, “Why? Why now, why when we were so close? I…I never got to tell him…tell him how I…how I felt. I told him I wouldn't leave his side, and now I've broken that promise” Kagome just collapsed on the bottom of the well and cried. And that is where her brother found her hours later.
~Four Months Later~
“Come on Kagome it will be fun” Ayumi said as she stared at her friend from her spot on her the bed. Kagome turned around from her work at her desk to give her friend a warm smile. “I don't know Ayumi, where is it you want to go again?” Ayumi sighed and said, “The girls and I want to take you out to that new Karaoke Café, and we think you need to get out and do something other than mope in your room or sit under that tree. I…we're worried about you. For the last four months you have been so withdrawn, I mean I know you broke up with that rude boyfriend of yours but you just have to put it behind you and try to go on with your life. Tell me Kagome is he really worth all this heartache?” Kagome just stared at her friend in sort of a shock, `Could I really just forget about him, just like that? Could I really forget all the times we spent together, all the things we did?' “I don't think I can forget him that easily Ayumi, I mean we were together for almost three years and we had been through SO much,” Kagome is fighting tears and failing Ayumi comes over to stand behind her “Kagome? Kagome are you ok?” Kagome stud up from her chair to face her friend and shook her head “No, no I not ok.” she than flung herself into Ayumi's arms crying and crying hard. “I loved him Ayumi, I loved him and I never got to tell him that…I never got to tell him…and now it's too late, I'm never going to see him again. I just feel so alone” the last part she whispered brokenly. Ayumi just stud there holding her best friend shocked, `she, she really loved him, and she never got to tell him? Now, where did she say he moved to? Oh never mind.' “Your not alone Kagome and its going to be ok, I promise it will all be Ok” Ayumi tried to comfort her without crying herself. “Now should come with us tonight, just try to have a good time ok?” Ayumi asked her friend when she stopped crying. Kagome wiped away her tears and nodded. “Ok,” she said “I'll try”
~Later That Night~
Kagome sat in her room by her mirror just staring at her reflection. `Can I do this? Will it really all be alright like Ayumi said it would be?' she took a deep breath and walked to her door. After wiping away one final tear from her eye she walked down the hall, down the stairs and out the front door to start the rest of her life. A life without him; or would it be…
Once Kagome stepped outside she was greeted by her three friends; Eri, Yuka, and Ayumi. She plastered a fake smile on her face and greeted them in return, “Hey guys”. Eri and Yuka were fooled by it but Ayumi knew better, her having remembered the events from earlier that day. “So are you guys ready to go?” Kagome's question brought her from her thoughts and she turned her face to her friend, giving her a concerned look for a moment. “Yeah, we're ready to go, are you?” she answered here question with one of her own; but her question held a second meaning. Kagome looked at Ayumi and nodded “Yeah I'm ready, as ready as I'll ever be” Ayumi nodded back in a silent agreement. Eri and Yuka both totally oblivious to the silent exchanges between their two friends started to walk towards the shrine gates and down the stairs. Kagome and Ayumi ran to catch up to them.
On the walk to the Karaoke Café the three girls talked about the latest fashion/makeup trends and about who was dating who now, but Kagome didn't hear any of it because she was off in her own world thinking. `I wonder what everyone is doing now, is Sango slapping Miroku for touching her butt again? Is Shippo off playing with Kirara somewhere, and is he behaving himself? And InuYasha is probably out…Inu…InuYasha? What has happened to him? D-Did he go the hell with Kikyou? Oh InuYasha!' the thoughts brought tears to her eyes and she was quick to wipe them away so her friends wouldn't see them.
The four friends entered the café and found a table to sit at that was off to the side but still close to the front. Over the course of an hour the girls had talked for a bit, gotten a few drinks *non-alcoholic of course*, talked to some other people and now were relaxing back at their table when a voice came over the loud speakers,

“ok! boys & girls we are now going to be holding an open mic karaoke contest. there will be prizes for the winners so anyone who wants to participate please, sign up by the stage now. the contest will be starting in a few minutes”

Three girls turned to look at Kagome who was starting to shake her head `NO', “Oh, Come on Kag, you know you're a great singer. And you could even win something for it, you know you want to” Eri teased as she pulled Kagome to her feet and started to drag her to the stage to sign up, “We'll even sign up too so you wont be doing it alone ok?” Yuka chimed in as they reached the stage. “Besides it will be fun and will take your mind off other things” Ayumi said as a final statement as she signed her name and handed Kagome the pen. All three girls turned to her and asked “Well?” `What Do I Do Now?' Kagome thought to herself. Kagome heaved a sigh and took the pen form Ayumi and signed her name, “Ok, ok I'll do it. Happy?” the other three girls hugged her and squealed out a `yes'. “Ok lets go and get our song books and pick the songs we want to sing” Yuka said and they went to find their books.
Now back at their table the girls were looking through their books, Yuka chose `Last Flight Out' by the group Plus One, Eri chose `Not For Me' by the Backstreet Boys, and Ayumi chose `In The End' by Linkin Park. But Kagome was still looking and was yet to find one that could express how she was feeling.
She was still looking through the book when they called Yuka up to sing her song, so she didn't really hear her sing. When Yuka returned she lied and said she was great and them Eri went up, Kagome was half listening when Ayumi told her how Eri was missing all her queues and how funny it was to watch. When Eri was on her way back to the table, a little red faced, and before Ayumi went to leave Ayumi turned to Kagome and tapped her shoulder “Hey, Kagome have you found a song yet? You only have a few minutes left” Kagome looked up at her friend “Yup I think I found the perfect song, whose turn is it now?” Kagome asked. Ayumi smiled and told her it was her turn and that she was next, “Oh! Ok good luck!” Kagome smiled at her as she walked up to the stage. Ayumi got up and sang her song as Kagome looked over her lyrics one more time and clapped for her friend when she was done. Now it was Kagome's turn, she stood up and walked to the stage and gave the DJ her song title and walked to center stage and stared out into the audience, just as someone walked in the door and sat at the back, and took a deep breath waiting for her musical queue.
Before her music started Kagome just had to saw something so, “Umm…I…I would like to dedicate this song to someone who was close to me who I have recently lost but who will never be forgotten” then she turned to the DJ and nodded that she was ready, a few seconds later the music softly started playing.
Kagome started to sing; sing a song that expressed just how she feels about the one person missing in her life:
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
There was a man at the back of the café who was listening very intently to every word that came out of her mouth, thinking, `You're never alone. You're always being looked after'
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time can not erase
When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
By this point there were tears running down Kagome's face and, the heart of the man at the back of the room was breaking from the sight of it, `I'm sorry, I'm so sorry you had to feel this way, I promise I'll be there for you from now on'
You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time can not erase
When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
I've tried so hard to tell myself that your gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along
`No Kagome; I'm not gone and after tonight I will never leave your side again I promise' the young man sat there and waited till the song was finished so he could go up there.
When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me
As the song ended there very few dry eyes left in the room, the judge stood up and started to walk over to Kagome to give her the prize because never had heard a song sung with such emotion before. But as he reached her side Kagome bolted to the door and ran outside crying.
“KAGOME!” Yuka, and Eri yelled and were about to run after her but Ayumi stopped them; “Ayumi? What's wrong with you Kagome just ran out of here crying we have to go after her!” Ayumi who was one of the ones who were crying and still was looked at her other two friends and shook her head “She, she just needs to be left alone for a little while. Ok?” The three friends did not notice the young man at the back of the room also run out of the club because the judge of the contest had come over to talk to them about Kagome's performance.
“Hey! Wait up!” the young man yelled. `That voice! NO, it can't be him, he's gone!' Kagome thought as she ran faster. “Leave me alone!” she shouted as she rounded a corner, just trying to get home. “Oh come on wench just stop already would you!” the man yelled after her as he continued to run, `That voice; wench?' “No he's gone! Just leave me alone, PLEASE!” Kagome rounded another corner and was only a few feet away from the shrine and made a beeline for the steps, she quickly looked behind her to see that the man was gone.
When she reached the top of the shrine steps she broke down and cried again, `Who was that? And why did he sound so much like Inu… No! stop it Kagome he's GONE and he's not…not ever coming back' Kagome stood up and was about to go inside when she noticed the door to the well house was open, `probably just Sota playing around, I'll yell at him later' she thought as she walked over to the well house. But once she was there she couldn't just close the door without going inside. She walked down the dusty steps holding back her sobs until she reached the well and dropped to her knees in front of it.
“I miss you,” she whispered brokenly “I just can't do it, I can't forget about you. I…I never want to forget about you, I never got to tell you…tell you how I felt, tell you how much you meant to me. And now I never will, I'll never get the chance to tell you,” she reached for something in her pocket and pulled it out “And it's all your fault! YOU STUPED JEWEL! WHY!? Why did you have to pull me away? I was happy, I had a family there. I had love there and he'll never know” she started to yell but it ended in a whisper. “I love you InuYasha, I love you so much and I miss you”
“Do you mean it?” a new voice asked. Kagome whipped her head around, “Who are you, what are you doing here? Leave now” she snapped. “Did you mean it?” he asked again, “What?” she questioned. “Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are to come in here and listen to a privet conversation I was having? And than have the gal to ask me if I MEANT it” Kagome was pissed now, `Who does he think he is?' the man just stares at her with a longing in his eyes, that had Kagome a little freaked, “If you tell me I may, or I may not leave. So do you mean it? Do you really love this guy? ” he asked in a calm voice. Kagome just stared at him in shock `May not leave?'
Kagome took the chance to look the man over; he looked to be in his late teens early twenties, he stood about 5'9” to 6' tall, had jet black hair that came to the middle of his back and tied back at his shoulders, stunning familiar violet eyes, and this smug grin on his face. `He doesn't look too bad, he may be a little inconsiderate towards my feelings but what men aren't these days'. Kagome folded her arms across her chest and turned away from him to stare at the wall when she decided to answer him.
“Not that it's any of your business but…Yes, yes I did…do…I mean” she spared him a glance still trying to get her answer straight, she sighed and started to explain “You see I recently lost someone very close to me” Kagome was trying SO hard not to cry, `I have cried too much' but it was a loosing battle. “Everyone keeps telling me I should forget him and move on with my life,” she choked back a sob and faced him “They said I have to face the facts and accept that he is gone. But how do you forget someone who meant everything to you, someone who was always there for you,” she let a small smile grace her lips for but a moment “and even sometimes when they weren't” a quickly as the slime appeared it was gone. She looked up to stare at him, her eyes were red and puffy from crying, and she sniffed before asking “How do you forget someone like that?” Kagome turned and faced the well again “Now if you don't mind I would like to be alone, so please leave” Kagome hung her head and finally let the tears fall, they landed on the lip of the old well.
“I'm sorry but I won't leave you, not again and especially when you're like this” she heard him say. She was about to turn around when; a pair of strong arms wrapped around her from behind hugging her tight. “W-what are…” he cut her off. “I'm sorry Kagome but I can't do it, not again. I don't think I could handle losing you again” he held her tighter than turned her around to face him, “Who…who are you? Losing me again? L-let me go! LET ME GO!” she screamed as she thrashed around in his embrace. With all her thrashing around the man's collar came loose reveling a string a worn purple beads spaced evenly with equally warn fangs. When she looked up she noticed something hanging out of his collar. `That…that looks like the…no it can't be' Kagome reached up and pulled it out so she could see. She was as white as a ghost, when she spoke her voice was watery and broken “W-where did…did you get…get this?” he reached down and touched the beads fondly, “What these old things? I've had them for years. What about them?” Kagome was shaking her head `no' “No, where did you get these,” she reached up and ran her fingers over them she started shaking again “I-if you have them…that, that means that…he…he” she whispered more to herself than to him. Kagome's knees gave out and if she wasn't being held up in the man's strong grip she would have fell to the floor. “Kagome…” The stranger said, she didn't answer she was lost in her grief. He pulled her easily to her feet and held her up; she looked through the darkness trying to see his face. “I know this is hard to believe,” he said. “I can't believe he's dead,” she whispered, “Dead?” he said surprised, she shook her head and cried harder. “He's alive and well I assure you!” he said, Kagome stopped crying, “but there is no way he could take the necklace off, only I can” she sniffed, “He didn't” he said calmly. Kagome stared as the man stepped into the light, Kagome gasped, “Kagome it's me InuYasha.”
