Chapter 3
Din-Din
Disclaimer: I don't own anything except the story
Summary: She was a shy, soft-spoken, girl unseen to the world. He was an outgoing, loud-mouthed boy everyone knew and loved. He was in all her classes, sat next to her, and fell in love…with her sister.
The house was buzzing with excitement that night as her mother and sister prepared for Inuyasha to pick Kikyo up and take her to Salt. Kagome and her father however sat there just watching in amusement. She had changed out of her uniform opting to have light, grey, cotton pants and a snug, white, wifebeater. While he was drinking a beer and watching the TV, Kagome sat in a chair next to him reading “Siddhartha” the required book.
“Mom have you seen my Chi Iron? I need it!”
“Yes honey, I'll get it.” Abi replied rushing to go get said contraption. Kagome and her father looked at the ceiling as the pounding of feet was heard rushing down the hall. They both followed the same feet back to the starting point, both wincing as the door slammed. Kagome went back to her book, highlighting and underlining a few words.
“Well,” Naraku grunted as he got up “I'm off to the bar. Tell your mother I'll be back later.”
“Ok daddy. See you later.” Kagome called from inside her book. She listened as he put on his coat, grabbed his keys, and shut the door behind him. She continued to read and analyze the text, blocking out all the other sound of Kikyo and her mother fussing to get ready. It was only about fifteen minutes later when someone knocked on the door. Kagome closed her book, marking the page first before carefully removing her leg from the foot stand. Walking slowly over to the door, tucking a small piece of hair that had fell out of her bun behind her ear. She opened the door stopping as she saw Inuyasha. If she thought he looked handsome with the uniform, she was wrong. Here in his black dress pants and sangria colored, button-up shirt, holding a dozen red roses in hand, surrounded in baby's breath.
“Hey, are these ok?” Kagome looked at the flowers gestured.
“Huh? Oh yeah! She'll love them.” Kagome answered happily. “Here, I'll put them in water, she's not ready yet so just have a seat anywhere.”
“Okay, thanks.” He handed the flowers over and walked in, closing the door. He stood near the couch, assessing the room. It was nice, quaint, homely, something totally different from his home. Somehow, he could never see his house as a home; it was more like a museum. Look, but don't touch. It was always so tense, not relaxed, so he tried to get out of it as much as he could.
“Would you like anything to drink?” She called from the kitchen.
“No thanks, I'm fine.”
“Alright. These are lovely I'm sure shell love them.” Kagome took the flowers and placed them and the vase on the dining room table. “Have a seat, I'll go see if she's ready.”
“Thanks.” He nodded once sitting down on the couch. Kagome walked up the stairs going down the hall, and through her sister's bedroom to the bathroom. As she walked up she could hear the clanging of objects as they were frantically being used and the two of them both bickering on what to put and where. She rapped on the door three times with her knuckles. Her sister threw the door open from inside, dressed in a white slip, a few curlers sitting on her head. She looked at Kagome with disgust and anger.
“What do you want?”
“Uhh… Inuyasha's downstairs and-“
“HE'S WHAT!?! OH my god I have to finish getting ready!” She screeched slamming the door. Turning around Kagome calmly went downstairs, listening as the bickering and clanging got louder.
“Is she ok?” He asked rising as she walked into the room.
“Oh yeah, she'll be fine, she's just getting ready.” Kagome waved him off. “She'll be down in about fifteen minutes or so.” She replied going back she sat down in the chair next to him, picking up her book again. Just having him close made her belly flop. She had to fight to not blush the entire time.
“Siddhartha. I personally didn't enjoy it nearly as much as `To Kill a Mocking Bird'.” Kagome looked up from her book and smiled.
“Really me too?!? Did you ever read `The Outsiders'?”
“Yeah. Even though it's like an eighth grade book, it is still one of my favorites.” He agreed.
“Yeah, me too.” She agreed. “Did you see the movie?”
“Yeah, I didn't think it was as good as the book though.”
“I know they never really are as good as the book.” She agreed placing the book back down on the table and putting her leg up on the stand, wincing a little.
“How is your leg doing?” He asked, full attention on her.
“Oh, it's fine. I've had worse then this. I broke my arm once climbing a tree.” She replied fingering the place on her forearm where it had broken. “I had a cast all through fourth grade, but it healed good. It didn't stop me from climbing trees though.” She laughed along with him.
“Yeah, I broke my arm once getting hit by a car when I was about five.”
“Five!?! I'm surprised you weren't killed!” She exclaimed.
“Yeah well, I did get pretty scraped up, but luckily I'm full-Youkai so I was ok.”
“Wow, you are lucky!” She did nothing but shake her head in awe.
“Yeah. Has your sister ever broken a bone?” Kagome shook hear head `no'.
“She was never really an outdoors person. She preferred to stay inside and play tea party with her dolls or my mother. I don't think she even knows how to ride a bike.” She explained. “She was the girly-girl of the family.”
“Well, I can sure tell that now, not that it's a bad thing!” He added quickly.
“No I understand. I think you two will be a great couple.” God she could smack herself.
“Thanks, I hope so too.” The footsteps left their spot and came down the stairs. Inuyasha rose to greet her, Kagome following a little slower. Her sister was the perfect image of elegance. Her hair was straight with a few curls mixed in, shades of brown around her eyes and lips, and a beautiful, full-length, black dress, that hung low in the front, revealing not only the diamonds that decorated her neck, but the hint of her full bosom.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. I lost track of time.” She apologized, gracefully walking over to him.
“It's fine! I had a nice little chat with your sister here.” He replied still not taking his eyes off of her.
“Wonderful.” She bit out, casting a short glance toward Kagome. “Well, shall we go?” She asked taking his hand.
“Of course. Mrs. Higurashi.” Inuyasha bowed his head a little, showing respect to her mother, causing the woman to blush. “Kagome.” He did the same, escorting Kikyo out.
“Bye mom, I'll be home later.” Kikyo waved as she left with Inuyasha.
“Bye sweetie.” Her mother waved in reply. As soon as the door closed, her mother's happiness vanished. “Where is your father?”
“He said,” Kagome started sitting down. “He was going to go to the bar.”
“He is always gone! Why can't he be a little more helpful? And you!” She cried furiously. “You look and act like a little boy. If you didn't read books I would think your were one! Maybe if you actually wore something nice then you wouldn't be so un-liked by your classmates.” She sneered going over to the door. “I'm going out. When I get back I want this room cleaned up.” And with the final words said, she shut the door with a hard slam.

“Hi how many?” The waitress asked.
“Two.” Inuyasha replied looking over to Kikyo on his right arm.
“Do you have a reservation?”
“Yes, name is Takahashi.” The waitress looked down at her from, then looked up smiling again.
“Right this way please.” Picking up a few menus, she took them to two empty seats at the long, white, linen, table.
“Thank you.” Kikyo said gratefully as Inuyasha pulled out her chair. Taking his seat next to her, he opened his napkin roll, placing it on his lap.
“Can I get you two something to drink?” Inuyasha recognized the scrawny little waiter easily. Hobo? Was that his name? Looking closer at his tag he remembered, Hojo.
“I'll have a Green Tea.” Kikyo countered primly.
“And I shall have the same.”
“Certainly sir. I will bring those out momentarily and take any food orders you may have ready.”
“Thanks” Inuyasha nodded. Flipping open his menu. “Do you see anything you like on the appetizer menu?”
“The honey-glazed dates wrapped in bacon look good. Oooo that goat cheese brulee sounds even better! Can we get that, is that too expensive?” She inquired innocently, giving him an almost sad puppy look.
“No, have whatever you like.” He replied happily. Money was no obstacle for him, he figured that when you are out with someone, a girlfriend or a friend, you should just relax and enjoy, no matter how much it cost. Which was probably why he had his credit cards taken away. Either way his family had given him money for almost anything he asked. True to his word, Hojo brought their drinks and took their orders, eventually taking and serving their dinner orders as well.
“So I guess some how he tripped on the stairs, and he hit his nose on the top step. So it was bleeding so bad and I couldn't help but laugh, it was so pathetic.” Kikyo laughed, taking a bite of her salad. Inuyasha laughed too, eating his rack of lamb. So far they talked about crazy exes, types of people they didn't like, food they liked, movies, and how much they enjoyed the food.
“Your sister seems a bit clumsy and… guyish if that makes sense.” Kikyo took a bite nodding.
“She is. I don't think she's compatible with anyone. No guy is going to want a girlfriend who is more like a buddy.” Inuyasha agreed by nodding his head. He couldn't possibly date a girl who would be like him. He liked the popular, pretty girls. They boosted him in the popularity chain, and it was usually pretty easy to please with his money. Of course there was always that one rule he stuck to. Never bed a virgin. Way too clingy and emotional, it would all add up to too much drama. He still wasn't sure what he liked about this girl. Maybe it was the fact she seemed so unattainable, so willing to be showered with affection. He felt like he wanted someone to swoon over, to want him, to need him. And this girl was exactly what he needed.
