Chapter 8
You're One of Them
Disclaimer: I like to think I own Inuyasha's heart, does that count? Oh and the costumes don't belong to me. The costume links will be at the end.
Summary: She was a shy, soft-spoken, girl unseen to the world. He was an outgoing, loud-mouthed boy everyone knew and loved. He was in all her classes, sat next to her, and fell in love…with her sister.
“Tonight was absolutely awesome!!!”
“I agree with Miro,” Kouga started, sipping an ice-cold diet coke. “We did really great tonight.”
“Yeah.” Inuyasha agreed. “Kikyo really bummed me out though.”
Kouga slung a friendly arm around his shoulder. “Dude, that chick was born with `Trouble' branded on her ass.” They all chuckled a little. “Seriously though, you guys have been dating for what? A week?”
“One and a half.” Inuyasha corrected.
“Yeah well, I don't know what you see in her.”
“Well,” He sighed. “ Its like, it's nice for a change to have a girl who doesn't feel like she needs to kiss your ass all the time to get shit from you ya know? And Kikyo really does support our band, even though she doesn't show it. And we actually have some stuff in common. We both like sushi, and we like Italian food, and we both enjoy pop music, and lots of other stuff. Besides, she isn't easy.” At that Kouga and Miroku laughed.
“Isn't easy?!?” Miroku cried incredulously. “She's bagged every guy on the baseball team.”
“Yeah but, I have this feeling that it's not who she really is. And I think that with some time I could show her that she doesn't have to be that way for attention.” The other two just shook their heads. Inuyasha wasn't trying to change a blob of play dough with his hands, he was messing with a statue, something that could not and would not be changed.
Miroku happened to turn his head to the side when he caught a glimpse of boobs, lots of them. “Guys look, it's the chickies! SANGO!”
Said lady turned to look at the man with his arms waving. She said something to the girls that Miroku could not hear, but assumed was a question of joining them. They must have agreed because they came.
“Great show guys!” They all beamed.
“Thanks, Kouga grinned, letting her scoot in to sit next to him, followed by Ayame. Kagome moved to sit on the other side of Kouga but was cut off by a smirking Rin. Kagome didn't need to know where the next seat available was, still she glanced over at Inuyasha. He smirked, scooting inward a little on the round booth.
“Have a seat. I don't bite…hard.” With an extreme blush at the implication she sat down on his left. “Order whatever you want, it's on me.” Inuyasha grinned as he handed the girls menus. Kagome was first to decide and set hers down. “What do you want Kagome?”
“Probably chicken-fried steak. What do you want to eat?” She asked politely.
“You Kagome.”
“What?” She gasped.
He paused looking a little confused. “I said `Same as you'?” Kagome blushed again.
“Sorry.” She mumbled, thankful when the waitress appeared.
“What can I get you ladies to drink?”
“I'll have an orange juice.” Rin answered first.
“Coffee, cream and sugar.” Sango called from behind her menu.
Ayame smiled politely at her. “I'll have a diet coke.”
“And for you miss?” Kagome thought for a second.
“I'll have an iced tea please.”
“Sure thing, I'll get those out to you and then I'll be back for your orders.” Kagome watched the spot where the waitress had been for a little while, not wanting to look back toward Inuyasha. It had been a great night, watching them play however, was probably the best.
“So, Kagome.” Kagome looked up at Kouga. “How's life treatin' ya?”
“Oh it's been good. School is catching up on me but you know, I'm surviving. How about you?”
“Well, ever since, you know, me and Ayame have been doing really good together.”
“Wait, wait.” Inuyasha interrupted. “You guys know each other?”
“Yeah, Kagome is my Ex. Well, kinda. We never really went on a date. I really liked her, but I guess she didn't like me as anything more then a friend. Then she introduced me to Ayame who was completely infatuated with me and told me if I was smart I would date her. So I reluctantly went out on a date with her and it went so well we've been together ever since.”
“Miroku, how do you know Kagome?”
“We met back in like fifth grade and she set me up with Sango, who of course, hated me like at first sight, but I fell smitten with her.”
“Smitten?” Inuyasha propped an eyebrow.
“Yepp. Poor Kagome, always a bridesmaid never a bride. But soon that will all change. The guy that wins Kagome's heart will be one lucky man.” Kagome blushed once again at the compliment.
“That's for sure.” Added Kouga.
“Is that so? Tell me Kagome do you have your sights set on someone already?” The table went completely silent as the air thickened. Everyone at the table except Inuyasha knew that answer.
“Well, uh, no. No I don't.” She could feel everyone breathe a sigh of not only relief but of despair for her.
“Too bad.” He shrugged.
“What can I get you all to eat?” The waitress asked. Kagome prayed that it would become less awkward really soon.

Kagome shut her locker on Tuesday with a small slam. It had been complete chaos last night. Her mom had another breakdown when her sister had come home and told her Inuyasha and her had a fight and decided to wake Kagome up at three in the morning, like usual, to get rid of her anger. Kagome was so thankful it was cold out and she didn't have to worry about people getting suspicious if she wore long sleeves. However, the bruise to her lower calf was visible through the frosted white hose she was wearing. But so far only one person, other then her closest friends, had asked her and she was able to pass it off as an old stain on the fabric. Now it was the last period of the day and she just wanted to get out of here. Of course it was science and she would be partnered with Inuyasha once again. The two-minute warning bell rang and kids around her rushed to their next hour class. Kagome didn't need to since her classroom was only a few feet away. Still, she wasn't looking forward to ANOTHER class next to her sister's boyfriend. Kagome walked in and sat down next to a vacant seat, knowing Inuyasha would come in late, as usual. This time, he surprised even the teacher when he came in almost a minute early.
“Hey.” He greeted for the first time today as he took his seat.
“Hey. Did you do the homework?”
“Yeah, for once.” He grinned. The bell rang and about five people shuffled in.
“Try to be on time class.” Suikotsu scolded gently. “Now, today is video day. And you don't have to take notes on it.” The class rang out with happiness. “All right all right. There is no talking, write notes if you must communicate, just keep it down so that the people who want to listen and do well on tests can.”
“Are you gonna watch?” Inuyasha whispered.
“Probably not.” Kagome giggled as she dug for her notebook. She pulled it out, flipping to a blank page and getting out two pens.
“Thanks.” He whispered, taking the blue pen and scribbling a note on the paper.
Has Kikyo said anything to you about our argument?
No, only that you wouldn't “Take advantage of her offer” and she wanted a man who wanted her back.
I do want her! I just don't think it's the rite time now. I don't want her 2 feel obligated.
You shouldn't feel bad it's not your fault. You're a great boyfriend to her. Better then any she has ever had. And if she can't see that then she's dumb.
I don't know…
Try to talk to her after a few days, when she's cooled her head. I'm sure everything will be fine.
Well, I tlkd 2 her last nite & we have a date 2nite, so I mite try 2 talk 2 her then.
Good idea. Hey, do you watch that 70's show?
Ya, I luv it, whos ur fav character?
I like Fez and Hyde, oh, and Eric too. How about you?
All cept Eric. Hes a wimp.
No he's not! He's cool!
Ya rite, he cant even hold a gf & he likes star wars. Nerd.
You're just jealous cuz all the girls like him.
…that made no sense.
:p *sticks out tongue*
:p *does same*
Yeah well my tongue is better cuz it's not covered in doggie germs.
What! That was cruel. Dog hater.
Lol. I'm Jk
Wow, I didnt kno you were capable of slang miss smarty.
Shut-up. You're just jealous because I have a 3.8 GPA and you're a delinquent.
I have the same GPA as u so HA!
No way.
Ya. I kno Im awesome.
You only think you are.
They continued to write back and fourth until the final bell rang, and they were allowed to talk once again.
“Wow. That was fun.” Inuyasha smiled, handing Kagome his pen.
“That was.” She agreed. “Are you going to call Kikyo later? Maybe you guys can go out to dinner and talk things over.”
He nodded. “I think I will. I'll see you later.”
“Bye.” She waved once, grabbing her stuff to go home. She had a good feeling that they would make amends.

“Touch my ass again you perv, and you're going to die!” Sango warned, grabbing his collar and giving him a shake, in a futile attempt to give the poor boy some sense.
He held up his hands in self-defense. “For give me my dear Sango, but I cannot keep myself away from your addictingly sweet curves.”
“Yeah, well you better learn how, and quickly, or I'm going to be making more curves in your body.”
Miroku clasped her hand. “Perhaps I can make amends by taking your lovely self out to dinner tonight?”
“I,” Sango blushed. “I can't go, I have a math meeting tonight with the group, perhaps another time?”
“Well, Deceitful is playing over at Monatako Mall tonight, and you love them!” He pleaded.
“Well,” She shoved a few books in her locker. “I have a math meeting today I'm sorry. Another time?”
He sighed heavily leaning against the metal lockers. “It seems every time I try to impress you by taking you to your favorite band's concert, you always have a math meeting. I'm staring to think-“ His eyes widened as he slowly looked at her pale face. “Y-You're one of them aren't you?!?”
Sango blushed, looking around at the several people staring at them. “Shut-up!” She scolded, digging her history book out. “Don't be ridiculous!”
“You are so in that band!” He whispered.
She slammed her locker shut. “No I'm not! What do I have to do to prove it to you?”
He smiled lecherously, leaning on an arm as he leaned over her. “Come with me to the concert.” Sango glared at him, shoving him out of the way.
“Fine!” She stomped off.
Miroku smiled victoriously. “Pick you up at five?”
“Whatever.”
It was the last word she said as she walked away, letting him pat himself on the back. He knew it, and he was never wrong. Tonight, he would make her admit to being one of them.
