Chapter 10

Disclaimer: Takahashi owns him…I don't…

Summary: She was a shy, soft-spoken, girl unseen to the world. He was an outgoing, loud-mouthed boy everyone knew and loved. He was in all her classes, sat next to her, and fell in love…with her sister.

The door slammed downstairs, making Kagome jump. `They're home.' She thought, reaching for her overnight bag already packed. She stopped in her tracks as Kikyo, alone, flung open her door.

“You whore!” She screamed, her face flushed. “What have you done?!?”

“What?” Kagome breathed as her heart pounded. “I…don't…”

Kikyo pointed a well-manicured finger in her face as she strode forward. “He talked about you for fifteen minutes! Are you trying to steal him away?!”

Kagome shook her head. “No I don't know what you're talking abou-“

Slap.

Kagome's head snapped to the side as her cheek turned red.

“Don't think I don't know you like him! I see the way you talk to him, look at him, smile at him.” She sneered as she walked back toward the door. “I'm going out with him again tomorrow. It'll be in your best interest to stop communicating with him before something happens.”

Kagome's face paled as the threat sunk into her bones and she sunk into her chair, dropping her bag.

“Oh and by the way,” She leaned against the door handle. “He's an amazing kisser.” A smirk stained her lips as she closed the door behind her.

Kagome glared at the wood separating them, her hand going numb at her side. She hated this family. She couldn't even believe they were blood related. Though her family hadn't hit her as often as you'd see on TV, they still gave her a few good ones now and then.

She could call child protective services, but that rarely worked. She knew from experience that even if they did get the call, they didn't always take you away right then. After that, the parents who got called on were just even more pissed off and there was nothing you could do to stop that.

She let silent rage course through her body like liquid fire. She would never be stupid enough to act on it. That would only lead to more pain on her end than Kikyo's.

She only had one decision now… Should she do as her sister said and ignore Inuyasha? More importantly…. Could she even try?

The rain hadn't stopped, only slowed a few times during the day.

It was Saturday….

Kagome hadn't gone to sleep until around two in the morning, tossing and turning almost all night. When she woke up at noon, she found Kikyo gone, with no note. She shrugged as she went on with her chores, figuring she was probably out with some friends.

Since no one was home, Kagome figured the stuff she needed to do could be put off for a few minutes and went downstairs, plopping herself down on the couch and flipping on the television.

Eternity.

That was the name of the drama on the television, or at least that's what she thought it was. She had heard about it around school, apparently it was about a hanyou who was abandoned as a child and grew up in a human house, working to become top executive for a high-class business.

True story of Hibari Nokamuri.

Kagome sighed at the thought. She didn't understand why hanyous weren't really considered for those jobs. It was like they were incapable of it. Though hanyous did sometimes make it successfully, more often they just had mediocre jobs.

In school they were sometimes bullied. Not always, but there were a few days in the year where they were targeted. Some could stand up to their demon-counters, but most couldn't.

She had been a friend to a few hanyous, but they had all graduated two years ago, and she hadn't really met any new ones.

She clicked off the television, not really finding interest in the show at the moment. She sighed as she looked outside at the stormy weather, vaguely wondering how long it would continue.

Miroku opened his soda with a hiss, taking a long gulp of it just as the door rang. Frowning he set it down, wondering who would be crazy enough to be out in this weather.

Unlocking the inner door, he opened it to find Inuyasha. “What the hell are you doing?” Miroku demanded, opening the screen door as well.

Inuyasha chuckled as he stepped inside, shucking off his jacket and soaked beanie. “Just out for a run and I thought I'd stop by.”

Miroku rolled his eyes. “Of course only you would be crazy enough to go out for a run in this weather.”

“Anyone home?”

Miroku shook his head.

“Good, I need to talk to you.” Inuyasha strode in, stealing Miroku's coke and chugging it in a matter of seconds.

“Please,” Miroku mumbled as he made his way to the fridge. “Help yourself.”

Inuyasha plopped down on the couch, stretching his legs out on the coffee table. Miroku watched with near-horror as he used the clean table for a footrest. “So… what's on your mind?”

“I…. have a date with Kikyo tonight…” Inuyasha sighed, looking at his friend as he sat down next to him.

“…and?” Miroku looked confused.

Inuyasha smirked, removing his feet so he could lean forward. His hands clasped together as he looked excitedly at Miroku.

“Thank you.” Kikyo nodded to the waiter as he tucked in the seat behind her, placing the cloth napkin on her lap.

Inuyasha sat across from her, nodding to the waiter as he handed him the menu, flipping it open and skimming it quickly.

“What can I get for you two?”

“Just a diet coke for me please.” Inuyasha ordered, reaching for his ice water.

Kikyo shrugged, setting down her menu. “Strawberry daiquiri.” She smiled a polite smile at the boy as he wandered off to fetch their drinks, turning the same smile over to Inuyasha. “This is a nice place.”

Inuyasha finished his drink of water, patting his lips with the white cloth. “Yes, my parents usually bring me and my brother here once a month.”

“Gosh it's so nice to see such a handsome young man like yourself who still respects time with his family.” Kikyo complimented, rubbing her foot along his calf seductively. “We should go somewhere after this…” She purred.

“Well actually-“

“Your drinks sir.” The waiter interrupted as he set the fizzing brown liquid in front of Inuyasha.

“Thank you.” He nodded, reaching for the glass and taking a small swig.

“And yours madam.” He set down the creamy red mix in front of her. Kikyo nodded to him too, delicately taking a sip from the straw. “Decided on what you two would like to start out with?”

“The crab cakes please. Oh and some grilled Portobello mushrooms as well.” Kikyo ordered automatically, as if knowing the two most expensive dishes on the menu would suit her best.

“Right away.” The young man slightly bowed and scampered back to the kitchen to put in the order.

Inuyasha sat nervously across from her, fidgeting. “Good choice. Sesshomaru loves the crab cakes here.” He smiled gently at his date.

“Oh he does? I love crab cakes so I'm sure they will be delicious.” She took a sip from her drink before continuing. “I usually like seafood because it is so light, it helps me keep my trim figure. That makes all the boys happy.”

Inuyasha felt a tinge of jealousy, but he tapped it down and only smiled. “Yes. A lot of men love to look at you.”

“Oh I know.” She giggled. “It's herd to keep but once you've got an image and really know how to show off your curves I figure why not? You can only get noticed if you wear labels.”

Inuyasha nodded thoughtfully, taking a long drink on his coke. “Your sister doesn't seem to wear many labels…”

“Try none.” She replied seriously. “The girl is a walking fashion disaster. She wears such plain clothes and she has no figure. Tragic she didn't inherit my good looks.”

“Yeah,” He whispered. “Tragic.”

Just then two plates were set down in front of them, looking and smelling absolutely delicious.

Inuyasha still couldn't shake his mind off Kagome. She didn't have the well-seen curves like her sister; hers were soft, subtle curves that left you wondering. She didn't wear labels that let everyone see her inner colors on her outside like a polished gem; she was a rock that you could only see what value lay beneath the outer roughness when she opened herself up to you.

Special. But not for him.

The storm got slowly heavier, until it's peak at ten.

It was horrible outside. The rain was literally pouring buckets, the lightning was flashing like a strobe light, and the thunder for the flashes was a constant growl from above.

Horrible.

Kagome was just cleaning a few pots and pans she had used to make dinner for herself when the storm decided to throw her sister back into the house.

“UGH! Stupid rain!” Her sister cursed loudly as her shoes squeaked on the floor and her clothes sloshed. As she rounded the corner, Kagome got a huge eye-full of her soaked sister with her makeup running down her face.

“Did the date go well?” Kagome asked, but only got a loud growl from her before she went upstairs. “Guess not…” Her cell phone chirped loudly as it burst out in song. “Hello?”

“Kagome?”

Her heart stopped. “Miroku? Are you ok? What's wrong?”

“Inuyasha called me about fifteen minutes ago. The date went really wrong somewhere. I don't know where he is!”

“What!” She gasped. “He's out in this weather!?!”

“He might be, I don't know! Oh God. I tried calling his house and they said he's been staying at their condo in the heart of the city for a few days while his room in being remodeled, and they gave me the number but, he's not answering.”

“Where is it?”

“It's on Central and Main. 2230 North Central, number 24.”

“That's about ten minutes from here.” She breathed. He'd been so close. “I'm going.”

“Kagome don't-“

She clicked her phone off, shoving it in the pocket of her jeans as she raced for the front door, grabbing an umbrella and slipping on her tennis shoes before dashing out into the rain.

Lucky for her the wind wasn't that strong, but the puddles were. They were absolutely horrible, coming almost up to her knees at times. As she ran towards the apartment, she looked for any signs of him or his car.

Kikyo had driven herself there and home, so he could be safe in his own car right now.

She ran all the way to the complex where Miroku had given her the address, but didn't see a light on in his front window.

“Shit.” She cursed, jogging over to his car and looking inside. His cell phone was on his seat, glowing as Miroku's name filled the screen. Her hand smacked the car as she looked around again, nearly soaked already.

Distantly she could see a slow moving figure as it walked along the sidewalk.

Silver hair.

“INUYASHA!” She screamed as she dropped her umbrella into the puddle under his car and ran as fast as she could towards him. His slow pace didn't falter in step as he stumbled along.

“Inuyasha!” She cried again as she neared him, making him turn around slowly to face her. The definition of misery stood before her as she stopped in front of him, panting heavily. “You're soaked! What are you doing!?” He really didn't seem to respond to her, just simply shrugged a little.

Her hand reached out to grab his but he pulled away. “Don't,” he bit. “Get away from me.” His expression turned angry as he growled at her.

“Inuyasha what the hell has gotten into you?” She gaped at him not believing he was being so…emotional. “You're not like this normally..”

“How the fuck do you know what I'm like!?! You barely even know me!”

A twitch caught her eye as she noticed a small addition on the top of his head. The earring he wore usually was gone. Two ears were now visible on his head. She put two and two together.

“You're hanyou!” She gasped, looking at him.

His flinch could probably be seen from the neighbor's window. “Go home Kagome. Your sister had the right idea to run away.” He started to turn away but she caught his arm, yanking him around until he was facing her again before she slapped him.

His eyes looked like a stunned puppy for a moment as they seemed to become brighter, more in touch with reality. “What the hell was that for!?”

“You're being ridiculous. Come on.” She grabbed his hand, taking him back toward his apartment. “I think it's going to be a whiskey and ramen night tonight.”
