Ayumi stood besides the group never looking at them. Inuyasha growled with frustration.

“What the hell, you were supposed to stay at the village!” Inuyasha roared latching on to one of Ayumi’s arms, forcing her to look at him.

Ayumi snatched her arm back. “Nice show of gratuity Inuyasha.”

Kagome stepped between her mate and friend. “Ayumi you should have stayed in the village, it’s to dangerous here.”

Ayumi looked at her friend with sad eyes. “Kagome please trust me, the Tashio family’s blood is strong, please have faith in my abilities.” Kagome placed a understanding hand on her friend’s shoulder and nodded. Kagome turned to Inuyasha who was still seething.

“Inuyasha, let her stay.” Kagome voice was gentle and soothed the hanyou. “After all, she is family and this is a family matter.”

Inuyasha snorted. “Just don’t get in the way.”

“I won’t.” Ayumi reassured the hanyou.

Toshi smirked. “Finally the last of the family blood to complete my power!” Toshi looked down on Kanna’s broken mirror and growled. Without the mirror he couldn’t absorb her soul, unless she was lost between the world of the living and dead. He pointed his sword at Ayumi. “You have many secrets in the family, some of which you will never learn. Remember that.” Toshi could see Ayumi face twitch, he knew her heart wanted the answers to the questions of her family.

Toshi raised his sword, “and now I will trap you between worlds.”

Toshi raced to Ayumi slashing his way through Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru. They were thrown back and their mates rushed to their sides. Kagome looked up and watched in horror as Toshi was about to swipe at Ayumi. Kagome was confused as to why Ayumi was just standing there smiling softly.

Toshi raised his sword and was about to strike. “Prepare to help me rule this world. I will absorb your soul!”

Ayumi closed her eyes. “I am at peace.” She whispered.

Toshi stopped before he could complete the finishing blow. “What did you say.”

“I’m at peace in my life. I’ve had everything I could possibly want.” Ayumi smiled up at her distant relative.

“I’m free to die.”

Toshi’s eye widened and he stepped back. “How, why. You don’t know anything about your life. How can you be at peace with it?”

“Our family, it was the greatest of it’s time. And it is still great today. I may not have known my parents but I know my life. And I feel honored to be apart of something that great.” Ayumi smiled and stepped closer to Toshi. “Please, Kaoru wouldn’t have wanted this.”

Toshi clenched his eyes shut and turned away. In the distance he saw Kanna’s flowers, they were beginning to blow away. “No, Grandmother wouldn’t have wanted this. But I can’t stop now. Not after Kanna.” Then Toshi raised from the ground and pointed his sword upwards. “I may not be able to use my sword’s ogi, but I have rebuilt my strength enough to open the gates of hell!” With that Toshi waved his sword and dropped to the ground sword first. The blinding light was astonishing and the heros shielded their eyes. When they opened them, the world was dark and screams could be heard everywhere. Kagome looked around and saw the dead. Humans and demons alike were everywhere. Satsuki wanted to cry. And Miroku held Sango close. Ayumi fell to her knees and cried.

“Inuyasha! Master Inuyasha!” The voice of Myouga reached the hanyou’s ears and he saw the flea youkai bouncing on his knee.

“Myouga!” Kagome cried.

“What are you doing so close to the danger old flea.” Inuyasha scowled.

“How rude I would never leave Ayumi!” Myouga stopped bouncing and became serious. “This is no time to joke, you must open the gates to heaven and stop Lord Toshi!”

“And how the hell do you expect me to do something like that!” Inuyasha growled.

“You and Lord Sesshoumaru are the closet decedents of Princess Kaori. She was a celestial being. She could open the gates, if you call upon her power maybe you can win.”

“Okay, how can we do that?” Inuyasha hissed through clenched teeth.

“The family’s crest, and a miko.” Myouga explained.

Instinctively Inuyasha looked at his mate. Kagome frowned. “But I have inu-youkai blood now right? Do I even have any more miko powers?”

“Of course, Lady Kagome. You were born a miko and nothing will change that.” Myouga reassured her.

“But wait a minute.” Inuyasha interrupted. “I don’t have a crest, remember. I’m hanyou.”
“Lady Kagome, touch Master Inuyasha’s forehead quickly!” Myouga bounced up and down realizing that they were being surrounded by the undead. Sesshoumaru and Satsuki began slicing through them along with Miroku and Sango who had just made it to the clearing. Ayumi was striking the dead also. Everyone was fighting a battle while Toshi was above them, controlling the dead.

“You won’t win. This entire country is filled with my army. You can’t defeat them all!” Toshi roared.

Kagome looked up angrily. “We’ll see about that.”

Kagome placed her fingers on Inuyasha’s brow and furrowed her own. Nothing was happening and she began to draw away.

“No, Lady Kagome! Concentrate!” Myouga yelled when he saw her apprehensiveness.

Kagome did as she was told and concentrated. She pictured a crescent moon like Sesshoumaru’s on her mate’s forehead. When that didn’t work she pictured their future. It wasn’t on purpose, but she could see their children and the children of their family and friends, Inuyasha was bouncing his daughter on his knee while his son of the same age was yelling for his turn. ‘Twins.’ Kagome smiled. She could see the love in Inuyasha’s eyes and feel the strength in his heart. And on his brow was a dark red crescent moon. Kagome was shocked to see it. But then all around her the sky grew dark, and the children disappeared. Kagome wanted to scream but nothing came out. All around them was death and the moon on the hanyou brow disappeared and nothing was left but blinding pain.

“No!” Kagome finally managed to scream as she felt pure energy move from her chest down her arms and out her fingers. Inuyasha yelled as he was knocked back. Kagome called out to him and was afraid she purified him. Inuyasha sat up angrily and rubbed his head.

“Dammit, Kagome that hurt.” Inuyasha grumbled. Kagome and the others looked at Inuyasha in shock. There it was a dark red crescent moon in the opposite direction as Sesshoumaru’s.

“Now Master Inuyasha! You and Lord Sesshoumaru must call upon your ancestors!” Myouga called out to Sesshoumaru who was still busy fighting.

“That stubborn bastard, always trying to fight alone.” Inuyasha growled. “Well I don’t need him either.” Then without warning Inuyasha launched himself in Toshi’s direction. “I’ll kill this bastard myself!” Upon hearing this Toshi readied himself as the hanyou attacked. No one saw the blur after but Kagome saw the bloody crimson that fell to the earth in a heap.

“INUYASHA!!”

Yagi opened her emerald eyes and looked around her. There was light everywhere and she knew she had made it to her destination. It was easy to travel to hell as she pleased, but heaven was a different matter. It took all of her concentration to travel to the heavenly gates. She took a deep breath and sighed. She always liked it there and wanted to stay as long as possible. But she loved Satsuki and stayed by her side.

Yagi began walking, knowing exactly where she was going. She reached the entrance and stopped. The woman she was looking for was already waiting for her. She had long flowing black hair and beautiful golden eyes that brought out her fair skin. She gave Yagi a radiant smile.

“It is a blessing that you’ve arrived now, Yagi.” The beautiful woman said. “It seems that my children aren’t strong enough.”

Yagi bowed low. “Forgive me, My Lady. But I believe they are.”

The woman raised her brow. “Oh, you believe in the brothers?”

Yagi looked up and smiled. “They have survived worse.”

“Well then why are you here?” The woman asked.

“I’ve come to ask your assistance in another matter...”

“INUYASHA!!& #8221;

Everyone turned when they heard Kagome heart broken cry. They saw Inuyasha fall, and his blood fall from Toshi’s blade. They knew what happened, Toshi killed Inuyasha.

Sesshoumaru even stopped when the scent of his brother’s warm blood went cold so quickly. Sesshoumaru feared that it was effect of Toshi’s sword. He wanted to be sure, no one had to ask and everyone was surprised when he drew tensaiga and walked over to his brother’s body.

Sesshoumaru stood in silence and waited. Nothing. ‘Tensaiga?’ He thought confused. Still nothing. He even made a quick swipe for safe measure over Inuyasha’s corpse. When Inuyasha didn’t stir he sheathed his sword and looked up. Toshi didn’t seem happy or sad at his victory, he just floated above with a stoic expression.

“It is useless, Sesshoumaru.” Toshi finally said. “His soul died in the land of the dead, he has already reached his destination. Nothing came bring him back.”
Sesshoumaru looked down on Inuyasha, him mate was crying hysterically into his chest. She clutched his clothes like she was clutching for her own last bit of life. He looked around him and saw the humans, Miroku and Sango fall to their knees, tears streaming down their faces. And the little kit was face down in the grass wailing as if he lost a parent. Satsuki held on to his arm and buried her face in it. Sesshoumaru gasped as he felt the moisture of tears soak through his clothing, even Satsuki was crying. Sesshoumaru looked up again at his uncle. Toshi didn’t have a particular expression. But it appear that he wanted to celebrate his victory.

“He was strong for a hanyou.” Toshi said softly.

Sesshoumaru didn’t know what to feel, he remembered that moment in the tree, he didn’t know what came over him. And he vowed never to do anything that weak again, but something was tugging at his heart and he couldn’t discern what he was feeling. He looked down on Inuyasha’s face. He wasn’t at peace and he died fighting for his friends. He was so young and brave. He was the strongest hanyou Sesshoumaru had ever met. And he was his little brother, the little demon who was left alone when he was far to young, the little demon who fought tooth and nail for his survival. The little demon that stood up to him for the safety of his miko, no matter what would happen to him. Sesshoumaru fell to his knees and looked at the face that he hated and loved for over two hundred years, the face that was now dead. He looked down on the face of his little brother and he did something he never knew he could do. For the first time Sesshoumaru, the lord of the western lands, the perfect killer looked down on his little brother and he cried.

Yagi smiled up at the heavenly being with the surprised expression.

“Ah, it would seem that I was wrong, Yagi. I suppose they are strong enough.” She smiled before disappearing leaving Yagi alone in the light.

Yagi knew the woman would keep her word and the little kitsune could now relax.

Everyone looked in shock at the tai youaki. Not because of his tears, because of his glowing moon. And now Inuyasha’s was glowing too. Sesshoumaru’s tears continued to fall and Inuyasha’s moon grew brighter. The grief stricken group shielded as a blast of light exploded from the crescent moons, sending all the dead in the area back to hell. All except, Inuyasha. Kagome eyes lit up as the hanyou gasped for air.

“Inuyasha!” Kagome cried as she threw her arms around her mate’s neck. Inuyasha slowly reached up and stroked her hair.

“Kagome.” He whispered softly.

“Inuyasha, welcome back.” Miroku smiled. Sango and Shippou crawled over to the happy couple and smiled.

“Inuyasha are you alright?” Shippou asked worriedly.

“I’m alright runt.” Inuyasha smiled back.

As everyone stood around Inuyasha, Toshi touched ground angrily. “I still cannot be beaten. It took the death of a sibling to call upon the power of Kaoru’s blood. You cannot defeat me!”

Inuyasha felt his forehead grow hot at Toshi’s words and he looked over to Sesshoumaru who seemed confused by something. The sky grew bright as if it was spring morning and Inuyasha’s moon glowed brightly as did Sesshoumaru. A soothing white mist appeared all around them and Toshi steeped back in fear. Inuyasha stood slowly as did Sesshoumaru. They turned and from their moons they shot a light into the ground behind Toshi. He sneered when nothing seemed to happen.

“Fools, after all that you missed me.” Toshi smiled. And the light faded from the brother’s moons. But the mist remained and so did the shocked expressions of the silent group. Toshi raised his sword and pointed at the group. “I will be victorious!”

Then there was a gentle hand on his shoulder. Toshi stopped and he felt like his heart was about to stop. In his hand his sword disappeared and he knew what was happening. Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru’s pack watched in awe as Toshi slowly turned and face a angelic woman dressed in white and blue silks with a pattern similar to Sesshoumaru’s. She had long silver hair, deep golden eyes and two triangular dog ears atop her head. She seemed sad but smiled gently. Toshi’s eyes widened.

“Mother.” He said softly.

From behind Kumiko a smaller youkai appeared. He appeared more dog than human with yellow fur and brown eyes.

“Father.” Toshi sighed.

Kagome gasped. “That must Kumiko and Youta!”

“Those are my Grandparents.” Inuyasha whispered. The group continued to watch as more figures appeared from the mist. A man that closely resembled Sesshoumaru with the markings and white hair emerged with a young woman with short brown hair and brown eyes. While the man wore regal clothes like Kumiko’s, the woman besides him wore simple clothes of a villager. The man held the woman close because it seemed she was apprehensive about the group who was staring at them. The whispered something to her that even the youkai of the group couldn’t hear and the woman visibly softened.

“Uncle.” Toshi sighed again. They were coming for him. He knew it was all over. He couldn’t be at peace with his fate, because he lost the woman he cared for. He wanted to feel her lips against his again, if only for a moment. Kumiko reached over and touched her son’s shoulder again. Toshi looked up and from the mist he could see a giant white dog walking towards him. The dog was magnificent with white hair and big red eyes. On his back was a beautiful woman with the longest, blackest hair he’d ever seen. She wore red robes with the Tashio family crest. She smiled and slid from the dog’s back. Toshi realized that a man was walking besides her. The Inu no Tashio smiled at his brother and shook his head. He was the first to speak.

“Hello, my Brother.” Tashio smiled. “I see you broke through the seal.”

Toshi lowered his head. “You should have know you couldn’t hold me.”

“Dad!” Inuyasha yelled.

Tashio turned to his sons and their mates. “Ah, Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru. It seems you have learned more in your lives than I could ever have thought. You have chosen your mates well.” The women blushed and smiled. “Inuyasha there is someone who would like to see you again.”

Inuyasha watched in shock as Izayoi appeared besides Tashio. Inuyasha could nothing but run into his mother’s waiting arms. Izayoi stroked his hair and whispered soothing things into his ear. Inuyasha stepped back and pulled Kagome next to him. Kagome smiled and bowed. Izayoi gently lifted her chin and smiled.

“My son is very lucky to have found you. Thank you for loving him so much.” Izayoi said in a sweet voice. Kagome smiled brighter and bowed again. Inuyasha pulled her into his arms and held her. Tashio stepped to Sesshoumaru and Satsuki.

“You’ve found one another. I am glad for you Satsuki. Sesshoumaru emotions aren’t so bad after all?” Tashio smiled.

“No, they are not bad.” Was all Sesshoumaru could say.

“Good.” Tashio responded before rejoining the heavenly group.

The woman in red stepped forward with a sad expression.

“That must be Princess Kaoru.” Kagome whispered.

Kaoru kissed Toshi’s forehead and he felt the life drain from his body. He closed his eyes slowly and allowed death to take him. He opened his eyes and found that he wasn’t in hell but he was still surrounded by his family, bathed in light.

“I don’t understand. I’ve been nothing but evil.” Toshi stammered as he looked as his new robes that resembled Tashio’s. Kaoru smiled and shook her head. The heavenly group parted and directly behind them a fair skinned woman stood. She had a soft smile and wore a lovely pink dress. In her white hair were pretty pink flowers that matched her dress. Toshi looked into her happy brown eyes and lept forward. His kissed Kanna and put all the love he held back into her. She broke the kiss and smiled.

“Are you ready?” She smiled softly.

“I’m ready for anything now that I’m with you.” Toshi said as he held her close.

Toshi lifted Kanna in his arms as he began to follow his family into the mist. The large dog was the last to disappear, but Kaoru lingered and stood before the group.

“Just as I expected from my beautiful Family.” She finally said with a melodic voice.

Yagi appeared besides her. “I told you they were strong.”

“Yagi!” Satsuki smiled.

Yagi went to stand besides Satsuki and Sesshoumaru. Everyone put their attention on Kaoru. “It would seem that you have lived up to our family name. As will your children. I’m so proud of all of you. And our family will continue to be strong and caring.” Kaoru looked down on Yagi. “As for your request, I’ll be happy to restore these lands for you.” Kaoru waved her hand and smiled. “Goodbye, we’ll meet again someday. I’ll always watch over you.”

Then there was only light.
