Quick Recap- IMPORTANT read if you haven't read The odd things we do.
Jewel was completed, naraku was killed, the wish was for everyone to be
able to become human, hanyou, and youkai at will. Pairings that got up
during the 1st fic in this series: Kag/IY, Kagu/Kog, San/Mir.
Kohaku is back to normal, Kagura has her heart, and Kikyo is at rest.
Myoga, Kirara, and Shippo are still with the group.
Inuyasha was walking down the path to the springs in youkai form. He
had started to put up huts for the group so that they could live near
each other. His hands were sticky with sap, and some of his own blood
where he had gotten splinters. He was humming to himself, a song he had
heard Kagome singing earlier.
"Wise men say,
Only fools rush in,
But I can't help,
Falling in love with you."
It was a good song, and he enjoyed it, but he was uneasy. He still had
to adjust to his 3 forms, and being able to adjust at any time, but it
was more then that. It was as if someone was watching him. He sniffed
the air. There was definatly someone nearby. Before he had a chance to
ask who it was, 3 arrows shot toward him in quick sucession. He dodged,
and his attacker stood up. As it turned out, his attacker was a girl of
about 15. She was tall and slender, with black hair that hung limply in
her ponytail. Her eys were a brillient green with faintly gold specks.
She was pretty, but Inuyasha's mind was a bit preoccupied.
" Who're you?" Inuyasha spat out angerily. Why had this wench attacked
him?
" I" the girl said in a steady voice. " am a miko come to seek the help
of someone. He is said to reside in the nearby village, which you have
no doubt ripped apart. The evidence is on your claws!" The girl put
another arrow to her bow, and shot it witha soft 'twang' of the bowstring.
Inuyasha dodged, and the arrow flew harmlessly past. He glanced down at
his claws. They certainly looked like they had ripped apart a village,
not built one. The blood stains on his claws looked 10 times worse
because the sap magnified evrything.
"Youkai! This is for the people you've killed!" The girl strung another
arrow into her bowstring and suddenly a spike shot past her face,
braking her bow. The spike then buried deep into a tree and dissapeared.
"Thanks Sango." Inuyasha said. Sango was in demon form, that meant that
she had spikes coming out of her back and she could spit posin.
"No problem. Who's she?" Sango asked, nodding towards the girl.
"Some miko. She said she was looking for someone, and she ambused me on
my way to wash my hands in the springs." Inuyasha grumbled. "The sap's
probably dry by now."
The girl started crying. From her point of view, she had just attacked
one demon and it's partner had joined it. She was very scared, because
she had angered one of them, so now it could kill her, and probably
would. She fell to her knees, crying.
Sango was the first to notice. She transformed to human form to try and
comfort the poor girl. Inuyasha, following her lead, did the same.
"What's wrong?" Sango asked softly.
" Wha- What?" The girl looked surprised to find other people here.
Since she had her head bowed down, she hadn't seen the youkai transform
into humans. "Where are the youkai? How did you get here? The next village
besides the village near Inuyasha's Forest isn't for miles, and the one
near Inuyasha's Forest has been attacked, hasn't it? There was this
terrible youkai......."
"It's okay. The youkai won't hurt you." Sango said, which was true.
"I'm here seeking assistance. There is something I need someone to do,
and it would be terrible if he was killed before I could tell him!"
"What do you need who to do, wench?" Inuyasha asked, cranky that he had
to comfort some stupid girl who had attacked him.
"I don't know his name, but I was told he was a man who traveled with
seven companions, and they each had three forms, human, hanyou, and
youkai. He had two minor demons who couldn't shape-shift, and one was a
flea I believe. I was told to go to Kaede's village, near the great
Inuyasha's Forest, and that was where I'd find someone fitting the
description."
Sango and Inuyasha were shocked. There were only three possible people
who could fit that description. Koga, Miroku, or Inuyasha.
"We live near the village. We'll take you there." Sango said, the first
of the two to get over their shock.

At the village, Sango and Inuyasha were welcomed, their charge almost
completely overlooked. They went straight to Kaede's hut, where they
were forced to reside until they got their huts built.
"Kaede, this girl attacked a youkai near the village. She claims to be
looking for someone." Sango said, delbritly not saying Inuyasha. Kaede
would figure that part out.
"Child, what brings ye here? Who are ye?" Kaede asked.
"I am daughter of the Princess Miko. My name is Nari."
"Nari, eh?" Inuyasha said.
"Yes." Nari said, then turned back to Kaede. "I have come seeking
someone who I am told could take control of the lands. Only one person can
do this, and I found a likely person. I should probably say group
though. It is said that a group of friends resides in this village. They are
able to shape-shift into three forms, human, hanyou, and youkai. I am
looking for the leader of this group. He will take command of the lands,
and my mother will be able to rest. I have no desire to take command,
so I have been looking for likely people for over a year."
Nari looked around the room. "Will you help me find him?"
"Let's call in the others, and ask if they think that we should tell
her." Sango whispered. Inuyasha nodded, and ran off to find Kagome,
trnsforming into demon form as soon as he was out of sight. Sango left to
find Miroku and Kohaku. Kaede found the rest by ringing a special bell.
They'll never learn, Kaede thought, They'll always go after their loved
ones first.

The group assembled, all of them in human form. Koga sat near Kagura,
holding her hand. Inuyasha and Kagome did likewise, as did Miroku and
Sango. Kohaku sat near his sister, Shippo by his surrogate parents, and
Kirara and Myoga hid. Kohaku was unusually silent. He had been
disturbingly quiet since he saw Nari.
"Nari, that was your name, wasn't it? Kagome asked. Nari nodded. "Could
we know more about what this person will be able to do? I mean, if he
succeeds in becoming the ruler of the lands." Inuyasha gave her a hurt
look, one that said, What? You don't think I'll be able to do it?.
Kagome gave him a small smile that said, Of course I do!. Reassured,
Inuyasha smiled back.
" He and his group will become extraordinarily powerful. Not a demon
within our ordinary plain of existence will be able to stand up to the
group easily. The group will walk among demons, humans, and hanyous
alike, bringing peace to the lands and all types of life will coexist
peacefully." Nari's eyes shone with happiness as she spoke, then he happiness
deflated. "But how will I find him?"
Kaede, who had been watching the proceedings with interest, said "It is
time to reveal yourself Inuyasha." Without another word, Kaede left the
hut.
"What does she mean?" Naru asked, confused. No one had done a proper
introduction, so no wonder she was confused! "Who's Inuyasha?"
"I am." Inuyasha stood up. He glanced at the youkai in the group. "On
the count of three. One, two............ three." The youkai shut their
eyes and transformed back to normal, Inyasha turning hanyou instead of
youkai.
"What? So you're-" Naru said, taking a good look at the group. "- the
shapeshifters I'm looking for? Oh!" she exclaimed, coloring a bit. "Then
the youkai I attacked was you?" She looked at Inuyasha.
"Yeah, stupid wench." Inuyasha said rudely.
"I - I'm sorry. I didn't know." Nari looked like she would cry.
"It's okay. He's always rude." Kagome said comfortingly. Kagome would
have sat Inuyasha had she not taken the rosery off months ago.
"Okay." Nari said in a quiet voice.
"Let's get some sleep." Inuyasha said. "It's late, and I want to know
the full story tomorrow." Inuyasha gave a small 'feh, stupid humans'
before running off to find a tree to sleep in.
