The group left the next day. Kaede packed plenty of food in Kagome's
backpack, which was easier to carry now that she could become a demon at
will. Nari still had to get used to her shape-shifting companions, but
it was nice to be able to sleep at night knowing that she'd be
protected by up to 8 demons.
During the day, everyone mostly stayed in their regular form, unless
the had to cover a few miles to the next town. They slept in inns,
appearing to be human, and they'd leave the next morning. It was very easy,
and no one raised any objections. The next town they were going to sleep
at wasn't so welcoming.

The next town was peaceful on the outside, but a demon prevented all
who entered from leaving. The demon forced the humans to be his slaves,
and he killed whoever he pleased. He had all the villagers living in
fear of him, and every new villager met their demon master their second
night. The demon would eat any of the young, weak, elderly, or sick, so
all the villagers could work their best. The human slaves were also sold
at market and traded like trading cards.

Inuyasha's group transformed into human form except for those who
couldn't, or had no need to. They walked up to the village gate and were let
in. No one questioned them at all. It was also unnerving at how few old
or extremely young people there were. All the poeple seemed
middle-aged, and no one was sick, which was rare in a village in those days. They
were shown fine rooms, and took their pick. It was two to a room, three
if you were small. Inuyasha and Kagome took a room, as did Koga and
Kagura. Miroku and Sango shared a room, and Kohaku and Nari did too.
Myoga, Shippo, and Kirara got their own room, which was a disaster area in
the morning.

The next morning the group got up and were treated to a fine meal. they
were treated like kings and queens all day, and they were given baths.
That night was a different story. They were taken beneath a building,
and the group started too feel that something was fishy. The villagers
all had solemn looks on their faces, as if sorry they had to do this.
When Inuyasha asked what was wrong, he was hushed up quickly by the
villagers.

They arrived at the demon's lair, and the village headman came forward,
saying:
"Oh, demon master, we have brought you more slaves to do your work.
There are 3 men, 2 boys, one cat, 3 women, and one girl."
The demon, who was enshrouded in mist, walked forward out of it. the
demon was vaugly human in shape, and he had three eyes, the third one
shut for now. The demon's claws were long and very sharp, growing out of
the end of his fingers, which were long and willowy. The demon was very
tall, and slender, almost like a snake that could stand upright and
sprouted legs and arms. It's eyes were molten gold and the pupils were
just slits. The nose was simply two slashes where a nose would be, and the
mouth was just a gash. The thing had sharp, wickedly pointed teeth, and
they were red from a recent meal. It smiled, then began dictating which
would be kapt as slaves.
"Keep the men, and the boys. They'll be good. The women shall cook, and
the girl shall be killed. The cat too."
" No, they won't." Inuyasha said calmly.
"Shut up slave! Want to join them? Pity. You looked so
promising........." the youkai said with a sneer. Inuyasha sighed.
"Okay. Transform everyone." Inuyasha commanded. The villagers and the
youkai watched in shock as the humans became youkai, all but one, which
was Nari. Koga ran at it again and again, distracting it from the
others. Kagome clawed at it, and Kagura fired Wind Blades at it when she had
a clear shot. Sango did likewise with her spikes, and Kohaku with his
chain sickle hands. Inuyasha scratched at it too. It didn't ake lots for
it to be brought down. The youkai had been small, so it was easy to see
that it never had a chance.
"What- What are you?" the village head asked, worried that the
newcomers had gotten rid of their menace to become their rulers.
"We're youkai, human, and hanyou, depending on what time you catch us
at!" Kagome said cheerfully, morphing back into yuman shape. The other
followed suit.
"We thank you for getting rid of the demon." the village headman
started to say. "Plaese accept our hospitality for one more night. Our homes
and lives were threatened if we did not bring you to him, we had no
choice!"
"We understand, and we accept." Kagome said. " Now, could I have a bath
please?"

They left the vilage the next day, with more food then they had come in
with. The villagers were happy that they had been saved from the
youkai, so they expressed their joy in the form of gifts of food. THey group
had been traveling for a week when Nari said that they were getting
close. They were almost at the Princess Miko's house.
