InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ New Journey ❯ 45 ( Chapter 45 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
*Flash*
"This is too easy..." A small man said. Kagua frowned. This looked nothing like Matoru.
"Kate!" the man called. A small kitsune hopped out of the nearby grass.
"What Matoru?" the kistune asked in a bored-sounding voice.
"I need to be disgusied as a child, Kate. The new leaders...... they aren't fit to rule. I'll attack a nearby village. They're sure to come." Kate nodded.
"Okay. Why? You normally don't get involved with things like this........"
"Because..... they killed Rysuki, and Naraku. What kind of power do they have now, if they could kill those two?"
"So... you think that they have too much power already, and thus will not eb fair and lead the land into eternal ruin?" Kate nodded. "Your being overly dramatic again...."
"No I'm not! Just do it already."
"Okay, but you're making a mistake." Kate cast teh required illusion around the man. In a few moments, teh manbecame teh Matoru that was on teh bed before her and her friends.
*End*
Kagura took a deep, quick, breath of air.
"No doubt. Matoru did it." Kagura said. "He asked a kitsune, name Kate, to make him look young."
"We can't do much, but it does confirm what we thought." Miroku said. Nari gave a cry of pain. Kohakuw as already by her side, holding her hand.
"Nari!" he called. "Nari!"
*Matoru's mind*
"Why do you do this?" Nari asked.
"You're all the same. Just dirty power grabbers..... I could do better." Matoru scoffed.
"What?" Nari asked. 'What did he just call us?'
"You want power. Isn't that why you decided to become rulers in the first place?" Nari was shaking her head halfway through the sentence.
"I was actaully the last rulers heir. I could've ruled by myself, had I wanted. I wasn't even gong to rule at all, but then I met Kohaku, my husband. We don't want power."
"Lies!" Matoru screeched.
"I don't lie!" Nari said, dodging his whip.
"Everyoen wants power! Why else would a bunch of youkai try to kill soemone like Rysuki and Naraku?"
"We're not youkai." Nari said coldly. "Less then half our group was originally youkai. Koga and Kagura were, as well as Shippo. Inuyasha was a half-demon. Sango, Kagome, Kohaku, Miroku, myself, we were all human!"
"That proves my point! HUmans and youkai working together? It's all for power!" Nari dodged the whip again.
"We were all very powerful by ourselves. Kagome and I were mikos, Kagome being teh reincarnation of Kikyo, protectress of teh Shikon Jewel. Sango was teh best demon sleyr in her village, and Kohaku was her brother. Miroku ahd strong holy powers, and an air void in his right hand, capable of sucking demons in. Inuyasha was desceded from Lord Nuihasay himself! KOag was teh chieftan of a wolf demon clan, and Kagura used to be controlled by my brother, a detatchment to do Naraku's bidding! Shippo would be able to stay safe, if only he were braver! We don't need any more power!"
"How did such an unlikely band come together? You expect me to believe that!?"
"But it's true." Nari said softly.
"It can't be! Mikos, monks, demon slayers, and demons or part-demons do not hang around together!" Even so, Matoru didn't sound at all sure of himself anymore.
"They did." Nari said softly. She swallowed. She knew of a way to convince him, but it would be risky.
"Can you look insid epeoples minds? Discover of tehy're tellinbg teh truth?" At his nod Nari continued.
"Then look inside mine. You'll be able to find out for yourself."
"What? Are you crazy?" Matoru asked. "I could-"
"I know." With a resigned sigh. Matoru closed his eyes. Instantly, Nari felt him in her mind, probing for answers. She closed off some areas of her mind, just letting him access what he needed to know. Afetr abouta minute, she felt him pull out. She let out a breath that she hadn't known that she'd been holding.
"It's true......" Matoru said. "Everything you said..." Nari nodded. Matoru closed his eyes again.
"Then I'll let you go." Nari was floating. She felt herself be pulled from his mind.
*Rest of the Group*
"What do you think is going on?" Sango asked. Nari nor Matoru had moved for a while...
Nari's eyes fluttered open. Matoru had disappeared.
"Nari!" Kohaku asked quickly. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"Huh?" Nari sat up, nursing a woozy head. "Oh......" She quickly explained about Matoru.
"Okay...... so he thought that we were mad power grabbers?" Kagome asked. Nari nodded.
"Either way, it looks like everyone is feeling better." Sango noted. How could she have missed it? How could anyone miss it, for that matter? Everyone was sitting up, looking nothing more then woozy.
"Yes. Thank you." Kaede said, bowing. She straightened, then said, "I suppose that you should get moving on. There's nothing left for you to do here, and you've already helped us out quite a bit. There are probably other towns who wish to have your prescence." Koga suddenly stepped up to Kaede.
"We'll miss you. Everyone. You lived a fufilling life. You shouldn't be worried about us. We'll not need your help until we meet your reincarnation." Kaede looked shocked, but then her face smoothed out again.
"Your Gift... seeing the future...." Kaede nodded.
"What?" Kagura asked. "What does he mean?"
'Please... she..... she isn't?' Kaguar thought. She had barely known the miko, but still....... Kaede was nodding.
"He is. Please...... don't feel sorry for me. I have already trained two mikos ready to take over. My village will be looked after. I will also be able to join Kikyo. I am wearing out." Kaede paused. "Please creamate me. It's the way of mikos..... we are normally creamated after death." Kagome nodded, tears brimming.
"Koga's right. We'll miss you......" Kagome went right up to the miko and hugged the old woman. Kaede was like a grandmother to her.
"We'll miss you old woman." Inuyasha said gruffly. One by one, the others all said their goodbyes. At sunset, Kaede took her last breath. She was creamated at dawn the next day.
*Next Day, after teh Cremation*
Kagoem went- sniffling- through Kaede's old things. Her hut had to be cleared out for teh new town miko. Her hand brushed against something odd.
"Huh?" Kagome put a cloth aside. Underneath a small pile of herbs, lay some paintings. Kagome gasped again. They were the paintings that had been in the museum.
"Inuyasha! Everyone!" Kagoem called. They entered the small hut.
"What is it, Kagome?" Inuyasha asked. He then saw teh paintings. "What the-?"
"It was Kaede." Sango said. "She painted them......." Kagome nodded, packing the paintings carefully up.
"We'll give these to the right people. They have to make it to teh museum." The group nodded. They silently finished packing. They still had the coronation left.
