They set out after burying Kaede's ashes and giving her a proper buriel. Kagome was sniffing all the way back to the Mikos house. So was Sango, and Kagura. Nari was sad as well. They boys were sad, but they never let out a solitary sniffle. Inuyasha seemed depressed. He had known Kaede most of his life, and now she was......... gone. Just like that.
"We must...... we must continue on." Miroku said without any feeling. "I suggest that we go on that one parade. Meet all the people, you know." Everyone agreed. They were sad, but duties needed to be performed, and while the parade couldn't take their minds off of Kaede, it would certainly distract them so that they could get used to dealing with the pain. They stopped at the Miko's house long enough to pack up, then they were off.
It was a busy time. They went all over the country. A few towns in the North, some in the South, a few in the East, helping when they could. Here Nari Healed the town headman; here Miroku Summouned more game so that the villagers wouldn't starve; there Kagome Heard a plot to kill a farmer and loot his land- they put a stop to that. They went all around the continent, skipping one part- 1/4- of the lands, leaving that for last.
"We have to go there sometime......" Kagome said to Inuyasha, when they were alone. Inuyasha nodded.
"I know..... but Sesshomaru might not have changed. He still might try to take Tetsusagia- which I don't carry around anymore." Kagome nodded.
"We just have to take that chance."
The next day, the sun rose on our travelers at the border to the Western Lands. Sesshomaru was there to meet them.
"Dear little brother....... and his woman." Sesshomaru said. "To what do I owe this pleasure?" Inuyasha could tell that Sesshomaru was mocking them. He was about to answer, but the Miko beat him to it.
"We just wnat to look around, help if we can, move on if we can't. Is that acceptable?" Sesshomaru nodded.
"I have upheld the bargain, little brother." Sesshomaru said, walking to the first towns. "No humans or hanyous have been hurt in these lands- if so, the one responsible has been delt with." They were walking towards the nearest town. Inuyasha was a bit surprised to see that Sesshomaru had actually held up the bargain. Hanyous and humans were exchanging items, bartering...... hanyou children were playing 'tag' with humans. Youkai were even walking along the streets- human- shaped ones, all acting cold and aloof.
"I'm impressed." Koga said. "I didn't know that everyone could get along so well, in such a short amount of time......" Sesshomaru nodded.
"I'm not surprised. Human and hanyou had been associating underground for centuries. This is just aboveground now." A small girl with black hair ran up to Sesshomaru. She had been playing tag.
"Sesshomaru-sama! Rin wants to meet Rychiki's parents! Can Rin go?" At Sesshomaru's nod, the girl -Rin- squealed and ran back to her hanyou friend. The two ran off towards a nearby hut. Sesshomaru's eyes softened, in a look that a father gives a child when the dad realizes that they've grown up.
"It doesn't look like anythings needed here. Can we go to the next village?" Kagura asked. Everyone nodded. Sesshomaru sent them on their way. They traveled throughout the Western Lands, then finally went back to the Miko's house. It had been nearly a year since they'd been there.
"Eray!" Nari called. The servent appeared.
"Yes, ma'am?" Eray asked.
"Could we take down the house? All but the garden. We'll want a castle of our own." Eray didn't seem puzzled by this request. Nor did the others. They had discussed the matter throughly on the road.
"I'll get some people right on it." Eray was as good as her word. She had a group of hanyous, youkai, and humans taking the house down and clearing space for the new castle. The group recovered their things as the house came down. Now came the hard part. The group formed a loose circle of the nine of them- Nari was included. They chanted, making sure that their castle would be made of purity, not hate- like Rysuki's castle.
"Form a castle of will,
Upheld by the nine circled,
Allow in anyone we wish,
and mold to our will." They chanted for about 10 minutes, and finally the castle took shape. It was a grand affair, all turrets, and balconeys. The entire place seemed to be made of glass. One by one- for they were all tired- the group made their way inside, transporting themselves to their rooms. They were asleep before their heads hit their pillows.
*Next Day*
"The castle seems to be in good order." Miroku noted, sitting down to breakfast.
"Yup." Inuyasha said, digging into the food.
"Umm..... Inuyasha? May I talk to you?" Kagome asked. Then, eyeing the crowd:
"Alone?" Inuyasha nodded. Kagura, Sango, and Nari posed similar questions to Koga, Miroku, and Kohaku. All the girls whispered into their husbands ear. All four men cried out at the same time;
"YOU'RE PREGNANT!?"
