`He comes first, always. I can wait … I can always wait' she though as she rocked the little boy in her arms, fighting back tears of her own.

Once he fell asleep, she slowly got up and quietly mad her way to his room. After tucking him in she made her way to her room, on her way there she glanced at the clock and was surprised to see it was still early.
`I don't think today will ever end,' she thought as she gathered her stuff and headed towards the bathroom.
`You still have to call you mom' a nagging voice sounded in the back of her mind.
`That can wait … I'll just call later.'
`They're you family … they deserve to know.'
“I'll do it later … go away” she mumbled as she stepped into the shower, letting the water wash away all the stress and grief the day had brought. The hot water soothed her tensed muscles, while seem to make all her worries disappear … that is until the phone rung.
She thought about just letting it ring, but by the third ring she was out the shower and heading towards the phone. It rang two more times before the answering machine picked up; she had just made it to the phone in time to hear …
BEEP!
“Hey, you guys it's me again I was hoping to catch you in, but …”
At the sound of her mother's voice she gave a slight moan of frustration. `Great … today is never going to end.' “Hello?”
“Oh, hi Kagome. How are you?”
“I'm fine … how about you?” she said trying to sound cheerful.
“What's wrong? Did something happen, Kagome?” from the amount of concern and worry in her voice she know she failed.
“…”
“Something happened … is it your father?… is he alright? Kagome … please … tell me … what happened?” Her voice became frantic with each question she asked.
“It's daddy … he … he was … daddy was in a car accident.”
“Kami-sama, when did this happen? Is he okay?”
“This afternoon … around 1, 1:30 …”
“He's alright isn't he?”
“… No, mom, he's not alright. He's … he … he's dead.”
“Oh, baby, are you alright? I know how close you and your father were, I'm so sorry I was there with you when you got the news.” Her voice was thick with tears as she tried not to cry.
“Its okay mom, really, I'm fine.”
“I know Kagome … you are so much like your father.”
“Yeah, he always handled … bad… news … well. Um … mom … why don't you came over in the morning.”
“Of course I will honey, I could be there in thirty minutes if you want”
“No that's okay mom, there's no need for you to come all the way out here. I have a few things I want to discuss with you?
“Of course we can also talk about the new living arrangement too.”
“We can talk about that after the funeral. Bye”
“Okay, sweetie ... Bye”
Hanging up the phone, she walked over to the table and started collecting the dishes she and Shippou had left. Setting them on the counter she ran some dishwater in the sink, they had a dishwasher, but she need to do something to take her mind off of today's events.
After doing what little dishes there where she wandered into her room to finish getting ready for bed. Once dressed in an oversized shirt her dad gave her and some pajama bottoms, she left her room walk down the hall and turned into the first door, her dad's room. Walking over to his bed she crawled under the covers and hugged one of his pillows to her chest. The tears she held back now streamed down her checks and on to the pillow she held to her chest.
She tried to sleep, but it didn't seem possible, so she lay there and though about this mornings events.
~~~~~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~~~~~
“Kagome, time to get up” her father's voice penetrated the fog of her subconscious.
“Five more minutes” she mumbled trying to hold on to the fragments of sleep.
“Kaggy, you have to get up, you have a test today.” He said
She shot up now fully awake, “What!? What test, what subject? I didn't study, I'm going to fail!” she shouted franticly rushing out of bed and over to her dresser.
Her father had an amused look on his face as he made-up her bed and then sat down to wait for her to realize what happened.
It wasn't until after she reached the bathroom did she realize her father just said that to get her up. “Dad, why do you always do that?” she asked still in the bathroom
He chuckled softly “Because it gets you up faster.”
“Why did you wake me up the alarm clock didn't go off, did it?”
“No, it didn't.” He sighed. “I just wanted to spend sometime with you and Shippou before we leave.”
“Okay … I guess” Shortly after that the shower was heard.
Walking out of his daughter's room, he entered the room of his 3 and a half-year-old grandson. Looking over to the small bed, he was momentarily shocked to found two big bright green eyes staring at him. “I guess I didn't need to come to wake you up, huh?”
Yawning, the little kitunse climbed out of bed and looked up at his grandfather, “I would have heard Okaa scream, even with out ears.” He said pointing to the side of his head where his, elf shaped, ears are located.
“I know she was kind of loud,” he laughed. “Well, since your up you can help me get your stuff then I'll ran you some bath water, okay?”
“K, Oji-san,” he replies happily running off toward his dresser to get some clothes to where.
While everyone was getting ready for his or her day he started breakfast, which wasn't an everyday thing. He made oatmeal, eggs, bacon, sausage, fried ham, grits and rice. It was a pretty big breakfast and more then enough for his daughter, grandson and himself. It had been a long time since they had time for a big meal altogether like this. Whether it was breakfast, like now, or lunch even dinner was cut short before of their schedules.
He had to be at work for 7:00 every morning including Saturday's, Kagome and Shippou had to be at school/daycare by 7:30 every day. He worked until 4:00 every day expect Mondays, Wednesday s and Fridays, then he was home at 1:30 until 4:00 then he left again and don't came back until 7:00. Kagome had swim practice everyday after school until 3:30, but leaves early on Tuesdays and Thursday; she has swim meets every Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00. Shippou went to the day care every other Saturday; sometimes he went to cheer Kagome on.
They were rarely seen altogether at the same time. Sundays was the only time they saw each other and then they were going to church, finishing work they didn't or couldn't finish and/or catching up on sleep. Today was a rare one of those occasions they where never all up at the same time this early unless they had reason to celebrate.
Shippou was the first to arrive in the kitchen, Kagome having dressed him after her shower.. “What happened?” He asked, sitting down at the table and waiting for his breakfast.
“Yeah, dad, why are we up so early? I mean usually you try to get as much sleep as possible before work.” Kagome said walking up to the stove to get her and Shippou's food.
“I … um … I was up so I decided to get a head start on the day.” He said kind of nervous like.
“And?” they said in unison.
“I just felt like we don't spend enough time with each other, you know?” He said as he started to eat.
~~~~~~~~~~End Flashback~~~~~~~~~~
`He know that would be the last time we saw each other' She though.
`How could he have know he would died that afternoon'
`He probably sensed it would be our last day'
`Or… maybe … suicide'
`Never … why … he wouldn't he do that' she fell asleep soon after.
