InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Nightwalker ❯ Addiction ( Chapter 4 )
[ X - Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence. ]
Okay, from here on out, the story will only get darker. Be warned. I intended to make this very graphic and gory, so if you don't have a heart for that, please don't read. Also, let me make something clear. I got a comment about the characters being out of character. I'm not the author of the original story, so I don't know just HOW they will act. Give me a chance to show you into why they are the way they are.
Naturally, Inuyasha is REALLY old. Being a nightwalker, you tend to live a really long time. So obviously he knows many things through his experiences. (Hint, hint). As for Kagome, she's young and restless. She has a temper, just like her anime self, but she can also defend herself and she's a hard working student.
I had to delete this chapter and reload it since my computer was being faulty.
But before I bore you to death with my notes, why don't you read the rest of the chapter.

Part Four: Addiction
She didn't know where she was. Slowly as her mind came into rationality, she began hearing things. Why was there a draft here? Did she leave the window open? As her mind came into focus, her body awoke with it. She felt sore all over. Every muscle in her body seemed to twitch, even her eyes protested when she tried to open them.
As she opened her eyes, nothing came into focus. There were only blurred shadows. As the haze cleared, she realized that the room was dark, so it must have been the dead of night. Blinking a few times, she waited for her eyes to adjust to the blackness that surrounded her. Suddenly her senses came back full force. She heard the strained way that she was breathing, felt her aching body, tasted the coldness in the room, smelled the copper, and began to see that the ceiling was not hers.
Kagome suddenly rose to a sit so fast that her muscles gave an agonizing spasm. Her head began to spin. “My head…” She said as she brought her hand to rub her forehead tenderly.
“Awake?” A deep voice asked.
Kagome shifted, her eyes scanning the room. A woman walked out through the shadows. Kagome couldn't help gasping as her eyes scanned her appearance. She was tall, her skin was a rich, tawny, brown, her eyes dark and black. She smiled and Kagome could see the glittering white teeth between her full lips. Behind her, a long, black braid fell to her mid back. Kagome couldn't help herself as her eyes wandered to the woman's slender shoulders and slick, feminine curves. She had long legs and her body was athletic and strong.
“Good evening.” The woman said softly. Her voice was deep and musical, soothing. “How do you feel?”
“Sore.” Kagome said as she stared at the breathtaking woman. She must have been of African origin, her features spoke of a savanna beauty.
“Well, I would expect as much. You did lose a lot of blood.” The woman remarked, her voice kind.
Her words awoke something in Kagome. “Are you one of them?” Kagome asked as she stood off the bed. Her legs felt like jelly.
The woman smiled. “If you mean, am I a nightwalker, then yes. I am one of them.” She said, walking toward Kagome.
“But you're a-”
“A woman, yes. My name is Rukiya, please your acquaintance, Kagome.”
“How do you know my name? And where am I?” Kagome backed away. “Are you going to bite me?”
“Oh my, no! I don't bite women.” Rukiya gave a strong, hearty laugh.
“What?” Kagome growled.
“Well, I'm afraid those of my bloodline do not bite those of the same sex.”
“Bloodline?”
“My family. I am a member of the House of Dog.”
Rukiya walked closer to Kagome, placing a burning hand on her shoulder and forcing Kagome to sit on the bed. “But don't worry about those little things. You need to rest.”
Kagome looked back up at the Rukiya. She was too beautiful to be a human being anyway, she thought.
“Thank you for your compliment.” Rukiya smiled and Kagome's heart jumped. Did she just hear her thoughts?
“It's just that, I've always thought…” Kagome began.
“You've always thought that vampires are pale, with black hair, red eyes and fangs? And of course, they are freezing cold.” Rukiya smiled. “It's a common myth. But we are nightwalkers, not vampires.” Rukiya waved her hand dismissingly.
“Why do I feel so tired?” Kagome asked.
“It'll pass.” Rukiya offered, kindly.
Kagome looked up. “You're so nice and polite.” She said.
Rukiya laughed, “Is that a problem?”
“N-no, but you're the first nightwalker that's been so…civil.”
“Well, you'll find that most of us are civil. You've just…had a few base encounters.”
Kagome looked about the dark room. She couldn't make out too many details of the furniture, but she knew she wasn't anywhere familiar. “How did I get here?” She asked.
“Inuyasha brought you here.” Rukiya answered.
Kagome's eyes suddenly widened and got to her feet, snarling. “Where is that bastard?”
“Oh, he's near.”
“Take me to him.”
“I'm afraid I can't do that. You see, I can't let you leave until the sun rises.” Rukiya said patiently.
“What? You can't keep me here! I'm a free being, I can go wherever, whenever I please!”
Rukiya looked at Kagome with sympathetic, pleading eyes. “I understand your want for freedom. But, please know that this is for your own safety.”
“Like hell it is!” Kagome waved her arms angrily. “How do I know that I can trust you? One woman threatened to kill me! I was herded into an area as bait! A girl was killed to make me run! Murders are happening in the city! Two `drones' or whatever tried to attack me! And one of my friends was bitten by a man who tried to bite me as well!” Kagome panted.
Rukiya looked back at her patiently. “Give me a moment to explain.” She said softly, placing the tips of her long fingers together. “You see, those who attacked you are our enemies. That man that bit your friend, Rika, was one of them. I'm afraid there is a bit of a revolt occurring with us. My family is among the oldest nightwalkers in existence. We are raging war against the false Nightwalker king and his allies.”
Kagome calmed somewhat. “I don't understand.” She said.
“It's alright. All you need to concern yourself is that our enemies know about you.”
“But why me?”
“You see, they have noticed that you have some sort of connection with Inuyasha. Though it may have been falsely interpreted information at the time, they believe that they can use you against us.”
Kagome's mind picked up something from Rukiya's speech. “Falsely interpreted? So you mean that there IS a connection between us now?”
Rukiya sighed and said, “Yes.”
“What is it?” Kagome demanded.
“It's not my place to say.”
Kagome grumbled and sat back on the bed with her arms crossed. She felt so cold. “Don't fret. You'll be free once the sun comes up. Everything will be explained at a later date. Now about your clothes.” Kagome looked down for the first time to realize that she was nude. Screaming, she curled into a little ball instinctively.
“Don't worry. He wasn't the one who undressed you.” Rukiya smiled.
“That makes me feel better.” Kagome huffed.
“I'm sorry. You were soaking so I had to remove your clothing before you could catch sick.” Rukiya came closer to Kagome, holding out a bundle of clothing.
“I'm not sure about your size, but I think these might fit you. There's a bathroom. You can bathe if you like.”
Kagome found the idea of a taking a bath really soothing. Accepting the clothes, she said a quick “thank you” before running off to the bathroom. Turning the light on, she gasped at the marble walls and counters. The bathtub was double the size of hers back home.
“Maybe this imprisonment won't be so bad after all.” Kagome sighed as she turned the knob for the hot water.
Waiting until the water was warm enough, Kagome scanned through the clothes that Rukiya had given her. It consisted of a simple pair of jeans, socks, and a warm sweater with undergarments of course. Placing them on the counter, Kagome turned to the half-full tub.
She realized that the room was cold, but she didn't remember the temperature being this frigid. Was it possible that the climate suddenly went down ten or so degrees? Or was it that the house was colder?
Seeing that the tub was full, Kagome swung her leg over and went into the water. The tub was deep, Kagome soon realized, as she was submerged up to her chin. It felt good to rest her sore muscles in the tub. What had Rukiya said? She had lost a lot of blood? When a nightwalker bit you, did it result in your entire body being sore? Kagome vaguely wondered as she leaned her head back on the ivory marble the tub was made out of. `This house, or wherever I must be, may have been made in the western style,' she thought.
Kagome took a deep sigh. She would be free by dawn…but something made her wonder how long that freedom would last. She wasn't foolish enough to hope that she would never see this place again. Rukiya had said that their enemies knew about her, so it must mean that she was no longer safe at night. If they knew about her, then surely they knew where she lived. And what was this connection between her and Inuyasha that Rukiya mentioned?
Rising form the tub, Kagome reached for a towel, wrapping it around herself. As she passed the door to gather her clothes, she caught Rukiya's voice.
“Welcome back, Inuyasha.”
Kagome turned the light to the bathroom off and slid the door slightly ajar, at least enough to let her see into the next room. As her eyes adjusted, Kagome noticed Inuyasha walk into the room from the open window. Something shiny was on his shoulder. It took Kagome a moment to realize that it was blood. So his wound still hadn't healed?
“It's not healing? Her claws, were they poisonous?” Rukiya breathed.
“Apparently. I realized it when they didn't close right away. That bitch.” Inuyasha hissed. Kagome saw him remove his black coat, the white shirt underneath stained crimson.
“The blood's stopped, though.” Inuyasha said, when he next removed the white shirt underneath. Kagome felt her face heat up.
“Lilliana almost clawed my eyes out when I told her.” He took in a deep breath, his chest puffing.
“How did Kagura react?” Rukiya said as she took his coat and shirt away from him.
“She said what I knew she would. `Oh, he's not going to be happy about this.' Lucky for me that Sesshoumaru is in Rome with Natalia. I can't guarantee that he won't cut off my head when he returns.”
“Well you did break one of our most sacred rules. You know that nightwalkers never bite the same person twice.” Rukiya said patiently. Something triggered in Kagome's mind. Nightwalkers never bite the same person twice? Why was that? Was that the reason for this mysterious connection between Inuyasha and herself?
“Oh course I know!” Inuyasha snapped.
“Where's Lilliana?” Rukiya asked patiently as Inuyasha ran his fingers through his silver bangs and sad down on the bed.
“She's gone to get the anti-venom.” Inuyasha placed his hand over his open wound. “That vile, Bestia. If I hadn't been so mal-nourished, I could've killed her.” He growled.
“Bestia…The name sure suits such a beastly woman. If only it were me that she attacked. Perhaps I could have learned where that our bastard king is.” Rukiya huffed.
“Probably hiding in some hole.” A new, husky voice entered the conversation. Kagome's eyes followed the moonlight shadow that came from the window. A girl strode gracefully into the room. Kagome's breath caught at the site of her.
She stood tall, though not as tall as Rukiya or Inuyasha, with long, black, curly, hair and emerald eyes. Her face was smooth and peach-pink. She was slender, wearing the customary black clothing that both Rukiya and Inuyasha wore.
“Lilliana. Did you get it?” Inuyasha asked, standing. Lilliana nodded, pulling out what looked like a miniature case from inside her black coat.
“I met with some problems, but I managed. I've gotten extra just in case.” She opened the case.
“What problems?” Inuyasha asked as he pulled a needle out of the case.
“Humans. What else? They didn't want to donate any of their precious anti-venom. So I had to blood control one of them to bring it to me.”
“Blood control! Lilliana, you know how dangerous that is!”
Lilliana rolled her eyes at Rukiya. “I'm not going to go it again and I didn't have a choice. Besides, Inuyasha broke the rules, why can't I?”
Lilliana closed the case, handing it to Rukiya, before she took the needle from Inuyasha. Kagome watched open-mouth as Inuyasha obediently extended his arm as Lilliana injected the needle into his skin. Instantly, Inuyasha leaned back and took a deep breath, the open wound on his shoulder visibly closing. Soon there was no wound, just unblemished, polished and unscarred skin.
“I'll make sure to get these washed.” Rukiya said as she exited the room with Inuyasha's upper clothing.
“Thank you.” Inuyasha huffed before she left. Lilliana stood, putting the used needle back into the case, and then tucking the case away.
“You shouldn't have been so careless.” She scolded. “Biting the same person twice. I still don't understand. How could you?”
“I told you my reasons, Lilliana.”
“But you could've waited till you knew you were certain about it! What if you really did bite the wrong people?”
Inuyasha turned his head to the side. “I doubt it. I had already recognized the signs. I had seen it happen to many other nightwalkers. After so long, it suddenly happens to me and at the worst time too.” What signs? What happened to other nightwalkers? Kagome wondered.
“I should get these properly stored.” Lilliana said, probably indicating what was inside that case. “Try to gain a sense of yourself.” She said as she left the room.
Kagome saw Inuyasha sit back down on the bed and take a deep breath. Soon he too rose and disappeared from her sight.
She slowly closed the door to the bathroom, turning the light back on. She blinked, not understanding what they had been talking about in the least. So biting the same person twice was some kind of law. From the tone of Inuyasha's voice, it had sounded as though he was going to be severely punished for breaking that rule. Kagome couldn't help smirking at the idea.
However, what would happen to the person who was bitten twice? Inuyasha said something about anti-venom? Was that woman poisonous? That needle was the anti-venom? Was that the reason his wound healed almost instantly?
Kagome huffed as she came in front of the counter. So many things she didn't understand. Would there really be answers? Looking at her reflection in the mirror, Kagome gasped.
Her face. It was pale, translucent! Her eyes too, were misty and a darker sapphire. Her nose, as always was red, but so where her lips. What happened? Why did her appearance feel sickly to her? She pulled the towel off her body, and reached for her underwear.
The door opened. Kagome's eyes widened and she heard, a scream, the sound of running, a slam, and then another screech. Kagome panted as she had curled into a little ball across the bathroom, the towel re-wrapped around her. A slightly confused yet amused, Inuyasha stood at the doorway.
Smirking, he entered the room, despite Kagome's constant yelling for him to get out, and closed the door behind him.
“My, does this bring back memories.” He cooed.
“Get out!” She shrieked.
He crossed his arms but didn't budge. It didn't help Kagome's situation that he was still unclothed from the waist up. Finding her voice, Kagome hissed. “You've got a lot of explaining to do, you bastard!”
“Do I?” He said silkily, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes, you do! Why did you bring me here? How did your enemies find out about me? And most importantly, what the hell do you have to do with me?” Kagome yelled at the top of her voice.
Inuyasha said nothing for a moment. Then he sighed and took a few steps toward her. “Stay where you are!” Kagome ordered.
“I'm not really in the mood for this right now. Trust me, sweetheart; you don't want to push me. I'm already quite furious that I have to depend on a human for my survival.” He said as he neared and sat in front of her with his legs crossed.
Kagome trembled. “What do you mean?”
Inuyasha growled, barring his fangs. In an instant, his arm flashed, grabbing a hold of her wrist and forcing her to lie on the marble floor as he hovered over her, holding her arms over her head. Once Kagome realized her position, she growled and tried hitting him to get free. She managed to knee him in the torso, but he just huffed and shrugged off the pain.
“Let go of me.” Kagome panted, straining to keep her voice calm as she glared at him with pure hatred.
“Not a chance. Letting you go is something I don't have a choice in now.”
Kagome's face became confused. “When will you start making sense?” She growled.
He said nothing. His free hand lightly touched the bite mark on her neck. “Oww!” She squeezed her eyes shut, the pain searing through the tender spot on her neck.
“Hurts?” He asked, his voice tender.
“Can't you tell, you jerk!” She growled.
She heard him take a deep sigh. “What a bother.”
“Does this have to do with biting someone twice or whatever?” Kagome asked.
“Ah, so you were listening earlier.” Hic voice came, soft and un-surprised. “It's not nice to eavesdrop.”
“Shut up. Why don't nightwalkers bite more than once? Is that the reason you are keeping me here?”
She heard him take a deep breath. “Nightwalkers don't bite twice for fear of forming addictions.”
“What?” Kagome opened her eyes. He face was emotionless, but his eyes were angry.
“Addictions. Biting the same person twice can lead to dependency on that person's blood.”
“You're addicted to my blood!” Kagome yelled in outrage, struggling anew, trying her best to kick him in his most painful area, but he anticipated it and dropped his weight so that his body rested completely against her.
Breathing heavily, Kagome looked back up at him, trying her best to ignore the reawakened emotions that his closeness was creating. Try as she might, she couldn't stop her skin from flushing.
“You bastard.” She hissed. “Why did you bite me twice then? So this is all your fault!”
His face remained unfazed and he said, “Sometimes the call of blood is too strong, like yours is to mine. I noticed that I had already formed an addiction just by biting you once. I tried to ignore it, but it turns out that it's very true, no other blood has an effect on me.”
“What does this addiction mean?” She asked, trying her best to keep her voice calm.
“It means that I cannot survive without your blood, and only your blood. It also means that my enemies would do anything to get their hands on you: to use you against me or to kill you in the process of killing me.”
Kagome paled. So that was the connection between them. He would die without her blood?
“But I can't make blood that fast!” She growled.
“It's not like I'm going to bite you every day. Probably every few days.” He leaned into her shoulder, breathing into her neck.
Kagome's face flushed again. “That's still not enough time!”
“I wouldn't worry for your life.” He breathed into her neck, his burning skin sending shivers through her body. She still didn't understand why he was always so feverish.
“Not worry about m-my…life! Y-your not the one l-losing blood- stop that!” she hissed, trying to struggle again. Inuyasha had been softly running his tongue over his mark, soothing its sting.
“You won't die from blood loss. Don't worry about that.” He said against her skin.
“That's not-mm!” He silenced her with his lips.
Kagome's face flushed crimson as she squeezed her eyes shut. His free hand held her chin in place. Soon she felt his finger leave her face and slide over her throat then over her collarbone. His hand found her breast, rhythmically pressing his fingers on the soft mound of flesh beneath the towel.
Kagome arched her back, pressing into him as he continued with the torturous sensation. She mewed against his lips, feeling his tongue slid in to explore her mouth. His hand grasped the towel at her chest, pulling it down. She felt his burning skin against her belly as his hand continued downward, following the contours of her body before settling between her thighs.
Kagome tore her mouth away from him, gasping as his fingers found her core, sinking into the welcoming flesh. Inuyasha dipped his head into the croak of her neck, his tongue sliding over her shoulder and his mark. She was torn between the two feelings: his fingers plunging and retreating into her heat, his tongue sliding over her skin.
He pulled his fingers away, placing his palm against her center. She let out a shriek of blind pleasure, her body shacking and her breath hitching. He leaned away from her shoulder, looking into her face. Her eyes were a misty blue, like a dark cloudy sky, as they starred unseeingly into the ceiling. Her chest rose and fell with her heavy breathing.
He leaned into her face, his lips lightly touching hers. “Sleep.” He whispered against her lips.
Kagome felt so tired. Her eyes seemed to close of their own accord. His face became blurry as he watched her with hypnotizing eyes. Soon, her body was swallowed by the shadows as her vision became smaller and her eyes completely closed.
Inuyasha lifted himself off her sleeping body, coming to a stand. He bent and hooked her arms around his neck and lifted her, on hand on her back, the other beneath her knees. The scent and feeling of her warm unclothed body against his skin made a familiar thirst rise up in him.
“Not now.” He growled to distract himself.
Exiting the bathroom, he placed her beneath the covers of the bed. She was so small, he thought as he covered her. He must have always been listening for the call of her blood, so he never noticed. Deciding to let her rest, and knowing that if didn't distance himself he might pounce on her, he switched the bathroom light off and left the room.
Walking through the dark hallway, he came into the parlor, where Rukiya and Lilliana sat by the table, speaking in hushed tones. Feeling his presence enter the room, Lilliana and Rukiya looked up.
“Where's the kitten?” Rukiya asked, handing him his clean, white shirt.
Taking it and putting his arm in a sleeve, Inuyasha said, “Sleeping. I often forget that it's what humans do at night.”
Lilliana watched him button his shirt. “You might want to know that Sesshoumaru arrived in Rome. Natalia made contact with Rukiya. She says he's not happy.”
“I'm not surprised.” Inuyasha said, sitting on a soft, leather-covered chair. “How long till the equinox?”
“Ten days based on the human calendar. So what will happen to our little kitten? Do you plan to tell her the whole truth?”
“There are things that are better left unknown.” Inuyasha closed his eyes. He felt something hinge on his mind and blocked it out. “I'd appreciate it,” He breathed, “if you didn't intrude my thoughts, Rukiya.”
“Oh, I beg your pardon.” The woman smiled sheepishly. “It's difficult not to abuse this power when you have it. So, you don't plan on telling her everything?”
“She knows why she's here and what's after her. That's enough. I can't bring myself to trust humans. If she manages to escape and leak our information to the `Nightwalker Hunters,' we'd have a bit of a problem.”
“I'd agree with you on your distrust. There is no such a completely loyal human.” Lilliana said scathingly.
“Will you still let her roam free at sunrise?” Rukiya asked.
“Yes. But after nightfall, I'd have to bring her back. It's not safe for her to be out in the city now.”
“Hmm.” Rukiya crossed her arms, her eyes closed.
“What is it?” Lilliana asked.
“It's quite strange. You only bit her once, yet I had already noticed that whenever we hunted, you didn't feel complete. This is unprecedented. Addictions never form before the second bite. I wonder if it has something to do with one hundred percent blood compatibility, but till now that's been unheard of.” She looked at Inuyasha as though expecting him to have some support for her hypothesis.
“I don't know how, or why it occurred. It just did.” He stared into the ceiling.
“This will be quite a hassle. Having to take care of some human girl while we are out there fighting that bastard king.” Lilliana groused.
“It's not like I planned to stake my life on some human!” Inuyasha growled, rising in his seat.
Lilliana was taken aback. “That's not what I meant!”
“What did you mean then? Enlighten me?” He hissed.
“Alright enough.” Rukiya interrupted. “Lilliana, that was rude. We know it's not going to be easy. And Inuyasha, it is quite a mystery as to why this occurred, and I know this goes without saying, but we all know that you didn't mean for this to happen. It's a truth; we understand that. Besides,” Rukiya smiled, “I'm rather taken to this girl.”
Inuyasha rose from his seat. “Excuse me.”
Outside the parlor, he thought of many things at once: Sesshoumaru's reaction when he returns, how this predicament would affect their revolt against the king, why it happened, and, most importantly, why his blood and body called to a human woman.
