Rin Shikon slept happily after the long move to the tiny house she and her family lived in. She had two elder brothers and a little sister, though her two brothers moved out years ago. Rin's dreams soon ended as she awoke to a loud crashing noise from downstairs. It was obvious that her father was beating on her mother again. Rin looked over at her little sister Naomi, who was sleeping soundly still. She quietly got up and dressed in her uniform, then putting her side pig-tail in her hair. She kissed her sister, and made a short prayer to Kami-sama, hoping that the fighting would soon stop. Rin then grabbed her backpack, and she headed out for her first day of school at the Youkai-Ningen Private School. When she got to the school, Rin couldn't help but feel lost. It was a big school compared to her last one. She opened the double-doors and went into the office.

Rin smiled at the Neko hanyou secretary who looked up at her with blue eyes. She smiled politely back at her and asked Rin what she could do to assist her.

Rin told her the situation, and she handed her a schedule. The nice hanyou waved to her as she left the office, and she looked down at her hand-watch. `Eight minutes till class…' she thought as she walked quickly to what was said to be her locker. She plopped her stuff in her locker, and noticed a tall Inu Tai-Youkai with silver hair. He glimpsed Rin but paid no mind to her. Rin shook her head slightly and shut her locker, then quickly walked to her class. When she arrived, she met with the teacher, Toutousai. He was a old youkai, and from the looks of it, a little old-fashioned as well. Rin looked at her watch again; it was two minutes before class would start. Toutousai had Rin sit in the back, next to two girls who were busy socializing. Rin silently took a seat next to them and they just looked up at her. The one with the long coffee brown hair was the first to acknowledge Rin's arrival.

"Hello. You must be the new girl, right?" she said to Rin.

"Uh, yes, I am." Rin said shyly.

"Oh no, you have to sit there?! Eek, that sucks!" The other girl said to her.

"Huh? What do you mean-" but the bell rang before she could finish asking her the question.

Rin looked to her left and saw the same silver-haired Inu Tai-youkai sitting next to her. Rin's eyes practically jumped out of their sockets. Then, Sempai spoke.

"Our new student has arrived today, Rin Shikon, please stand." Toutousai said, and Rin nervously stood, then he motioned for her to sit down, "Hm…Ah-ha! Sesshoumaru! You will show Miss Shikon around the school for today!"

The youkai sitting next to her made a hand gesture and sighed. `So that's his name…' she thought as she looked at him for a moment, then she turned her attention to the two girls she met earlier. They looked at her helplessly and Rin sighed. Soon after third period, she learned the names of the two girls who she befriended, not to mention a pervert that groped her in biology (A.k.A. 2nd period.). The raven haired girl was Kagome Higurashi and the long coffee haired girl was Sango Hiraikotsu, and the pervert was Miroku Houshi. Not to mention she had to fallow an emotionless youkai around who went by the name of Sesshoumaru Tokijin. Though, it was all good. The people she met all knew each other. It was finally lunch, and she sat next to Kagome and Sango while Sesshoumaru sat next to Miroku, to keep him from groping them.

"So Sesshoumaru, where's Inu-Yasha today?" Sango asked.

"He had to go to the dentist again…" Sesshoumaru sighed.

"AGAIN?!" Kagome blurted out, "What did he do this time?!"

"Well, it's more like he pissed me off so my fist dislocated his jaw." He said, not a single emotion was in his voice, in fact, Rin noticed there wasn't ever any emotion in his voice or any expression on his face.

Miroku shook his head, "Well, what did he do?"

"He broke my C.D. player for the tenth time." He said calmly.

"Hah, figures…" Miroku smirked.

"Inu-Yasha is Sesshoumaru's half brother, a hanyou. They don't get along very well, though." Sango explained to Rin, and she just nodded.

Then there was a crash, and a silver haired boy sat down next to Rin, not really noticing her. He had dog ears on the top of his head, indicating he was a half demon. Rin figured he was Inu-Yasha by the way they described him. The boy looked angrily at Sesshoumaru and practically muttered every curse word known to man under his breathe.

"Out so soon? What was the damage?" Miroku asked Inu-Yasha.

"THIS." Inu-Yasha said then he gritted his teeth, five teeth were missing, but his jaw was still in place.

"Oh, so there was not so much damage to the jaw as to his teeth? Well then, that's nothing since they will grow back in a matter of twelve hours…" Kagome said, with a loss of interest in her voice.

"Yeah, I know. BUT my mom insisted on taking me to the fucking dentist…Who are you?" Inu-Yasha said, turning to Rin as he just noticed her.

"My name's Rin Shikon."

"Inu-Yasha," he said smiling at her, then he turned his attention to Sesshoumaru, "So why'd you have to make me miss the first few hours of today?!"

"Because, you broke my C.D. Player."

"THAT'S ALL?!"

"It was expensive. I worked for it."

"You could've just asked mom and dad for money!!"

"I'm not a bum like you who still depends on the people responsible for your birth."

"Shut up… SO, this is the new girl Toutousai told us about?"

"Yep! She seems nice! Sesshoumaru here has to show her around the school today!" Sango smiled.

Then Kagome whispered into Inu-Yasha's ear, "I think they'd make a lovely couple don't you?"

"Hah, funny."

After lunch Sesshoumaru dragged Rin to their fifth class, then to their sixth and finally to their seventh. It was a long day, but pretty easy for her, and Sesshoumaru finally spoke to her without being so cold. It was nice, but it sent chills down her spine when he did. Rin returned to her locker and got out her backpack, and then she looked up at Sesshoumaru. He half-smirked and then began to walk away. Rin trotted after him to the parking lot, though she didn't have a car, she still wanted to say good-bye to him and her new friends. Sesshoumaru peered behind him and saw Rin and smiled inwardly, not letting anyone see it though. Rin waved to Sesshoumaru as he got in his car, and he waved his hand once, then he backed out and drove away. Inu-Yasha, Kagome, Sango and Miroku jogged up behind her and the two girls gave her their phone numbers, and went home, along with Miroku and Inu-Yasha. Rin walked home happily and found that she was walking on air the entire way home. She thought of Sesshoumaru, the only demon who was really nice to her that day, and then of her friends she made.

When she got home, her father's car wasn't there, a good sign. Rin walked inside and hugged her mother and ruffled her younger sister's hair. Her mother smiled at her, noticing how happy she was.

"I'm guessing your day went well, Rin. You're practically glowing with happiness!" her mother told her.

Rin nodded and then practically screamed when she saw her two elder brothers. They hugged her tight and they told Rin they were staying the night. Then Rin happily went up stairs. She was packed with homework. She made a three way call to Kagome and Sango, and they chatted into the evening. They wanted to make plans that weekend with her and the `guys', Rin agreed. Then when Rin got off the phone, she heard a crash down stairs, and gun shots. She rushed down stairs to se her mother, she ran up to Rin and told her to take Naomi and hide. Rin panicked and took Naomi's hand. She ran to the cellar and Rin made Naomi hide in the upper old cabinet while Rin hid in the lower cabinet. More gun fire was made and Rin made Naomi promise not to make a sound. Then, she heard people enter the cellar.

"They've got to be in here!"

"Damn it! I know there was at least one other! I think it was a girl!"

"Mother fucker, What if she know what we look like?"

"Well, that's why we're going to kill the little brat when we find her!"

Then Rin heard a crash and a scream. It was Naomi. The cabinet must have broken. Rin panicked but stayed put. Hopefully they'd spare her little life. Then Rin heard Naomi whimper, and then she saw out of the hole in the cabinet she was in that they were closing in on her.

"Ah, there she is…COME HERE!"

Then Naomi screamed again and Rin cried silently, and held her mouth.
