Chapter 25
Did Somebody Say That A Love Like That Won't Last…But I Sure Hope It Does
oOo
When you came my way
You brightened every day
With your sweet smile
Didn't I tell you
What I believe
Did somebody say that
A love like that won't last
Didn't I give you
All that I've got to give baby
This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love
This is no ordinary love
No ordinary love

Sango fought her urge to take her hand away from Miroku. It wasn't that she didn't like him; she had grown to love him after all they had been through together. But her reactions to him were automatic, after enduring his lecherous ways all this time. She never wanted to just be one among the many women he had asked to bear his child. For once, he was only holding her hand and looking sincerely into her eyes, and she did not see even a twinkle of lechery there. It was almost too good to be true.
“Sango, I want you to know something,” said Miroku.
“What?” Sango replied skeptically.
“When we defeat Naraku, I promise to marry you,” Miroku said, “if you will have me.”
Sango's eyes went wide and she paled.
“You mean that, don't you?” Sango asked warily.
“Yes, sweet Sango, I surely do,” Miroku said. “So, will you be my wife?”
Sango could hardly believe her ears. For the first time since her family had been killed and her brother Kohaku enslaved by Naraku, she felt true happiness well up in her heart. She had to resist the urge to pinch herself to see if she was dreaming.
“Yes, I will be your wife,” said Sango smiling, and then the smile faded. “But if you are going to marry me after we defeat Naraku, that does not give you license to still proposition young women until then. If you continue to do that, it's off.”
“I understand,” said Miroku, closing his eyes and smiling. “My pledge to you means I will curb my ways.”
With all her heart, Sango hoped he meant what he was saying, because she wanted to believe him.
“Sango, my fiancée, may I kiss you?” asked Miroku.
“Yes,” Sango said softly, blushing.
Sango closed her eyes as Miroku's lips approached hers. Then she felt the tender pressure of his lips on hers, and a tingle, an electric spark went through her from her lips right to her toes. It left her kind of dizzy, and she staggered a little when he broke contact.
“Shall we go back to InuYasha and Kagome?” Miroku asked.
“Yes, I'm ready,” said Sango, and shyly took the hand he offered, and they walked back to Masahiro's house.
oOo
“How do you think those two are doing?” said Kagome wistfully, kicking her legs lazily on Masahiro's porch.
“You're asking me?” said InuYasha, sitting next to her with his hands in his sleeves.
“Yeah, that was probably pretty stupid of me, huh?” said Kagome, with a rueful smile.
InuYasha looked at her, snorted a laugh and smirked.
“If those two know what's good for them, they'll be open with one another,” said InuYasha. “I know from experience that you're not doing yourself any favors by not owning up to your feelings.”
“Pinch me,” said Kagome in wonder. “Since when have you become so insightful, InuYasha?”
InuYasha flushed and looked away.
“Even I had to grow up someday,” he grumped. “Kikyo's death forced me to leave my past behind, especially after you told me you loved me.”
Kagome grinned at him, a sparkle in her eyes.
“Especially after you told me that you loved me,” Kagome said, and leaned into him.
InuYasha put his arm around her waist and she put her head on his shoulder, and they basked in the warmth between them as they waited and wondered about their friends.
When InuYasha and Kagome spotted Miroku and Sango walking down the path hand in hand, they both felt a wave of relief. Sango blushed at their expressions of approval. Masahiro looked up from his gardening, and regarded them speculatively.
“May I make a suggestion?” said Masahiro.
Sango frowned a little and looked at Masahiro suspiciously.
“What would that be, then?” said Miroku mildly.
“I take it you know meditation and visualization techniques,” said Masahiro.
“Yes, I do,” said Miroku.
“I think that Sango would benefit from meditating and learning to visualize her goals,” said Masahiro. “It would be beneficial for you to teach her.”
“That's a good idea,” said Miroku, and turned to Sango. “If you are willing to learn from me?”
Sango shrugged.
“I don't see why not,” she said. “It's not Tantric sex we are talking about, right?”
“Not at all,” said Masahiro. “InuYasha here had to master meditation and visualization before he could do Tantric sex.”
“You know, I've been meaning to ask you about that, InuYasha,” said Kagome. “Just what were you visualizing when you were meditating with Masahiro while I was away?”
InuYasha frowned at her briefly in exasperation.
“What do you think?” he said. “Doing Tantric sex with you of course.”
Suddenly, Kagome paled, and her eyes opened wide.
“Um, how many times did you do this?” she asked hesitantly.
“Three times,” said InuYasha. “The third time, the monk hardly had to guide me at all.”
`Three times,' Kagome thought, closing her eyes, and her head dropped as she blushed, `Oh my god.'
“What's the matter?” said InuYasha in confusion.
“Come here for a minute, would you?” said Kagome, and stood up reaching for InuYasha's hand.
Masahiro, Miroku and Sango watched them go into the house, perplexed. Miroku looked at Sango and shrugged as if to say, `I don't know what's going on.' They looked at Masahiro, and the monk raised his eyebrows, then he looked back towards the house.
“What?!” they suddenly heard InuYasha explode. “You've got to be kidding me!”
Then to their amazement, they heard InuYasha start to laugh really loud. Kagome stormed out of the house, blushing, and followed by a still loudly guffawing hanyou.
“May I ask what's so funny?” said Miroku.
Kagome ignored him and addressed Masahiro.
“Can InuYasha and I have a word with you, alone, in the house?” said Kagome.
“Certainly,” said Masahiro and stood up to follow them back inside.
