Chapter 24

Didn't I Tell You What I Believe…That They Really Love Each Other

InuYasha and Kagome stood up, letting the sheets drop, and went to find their clothes over by the bath. Masahiro left to go back to his gardening.

“InuYasha, I want to talk to Sango alone when we find her,” said Kagome.

“Well, we will probably find our lecherous monk flattened if we don't get there soon,” said InuYasha, as he picked up his white undershirt.

`And if Sango hasn't flattened him, I will,' thought InuYasha.

“There is something I think those two have to face that will help them through this,” Kagome said.

“Oh yeah?” said InuYasha. “What's that? Maybe we should let Sango beat the crap out of Miroku first for not telling her exactly what we were doing here, before he brought her here.”

“Can we just drop all this talk of violence for a minute?” said Kagome, pulling on her skirt. “You know, Sango really does like Miroku.”

“So you've told me,” said InuYasha, tying on his hakama.

“Well, I have to convince her that it's time to give up the pretenses, as well as how important doing Tantric sex is for our quest,” Kagome said.

“You think that will work?” said InuYasha skeptically, crossing his arms over his chest.

“It will - if you get Miroku to admit his feelings for her as well,” said Kagome, straightening her blouse.

InuYasha closed his eyes and shook his head in exasperation.

“Just climb on my back and let's get going, will you?” said InuYasha. “Before there isn't anything left of Miroku for me to talk to.”

Kagome nodded as she slipped on her shoes and went over to InuYasha. He bent down and helped her up on his back, and leaped off the platform. InuYasha could hear Miroku and Sango before he saw them. It didn't sound like it was going very well. In a few huge bounds, they were upon them.

“I told you I won't discuss it with you!” said Sango hotly.

“Please Sango?” said Miroku. “Just hear me out.”

SLAP!

The monk and demon slayer turned at the approach of Kagome and InuYasha. Miroku had handprints on both cheeks, and looked to be smarting from the punishment. By the expression on Sango's face, he had not gotten anywhere with her yet. Kagome climbed down off InuYasha's back, as the hanyou stalked forward.

“Come with me and let the girls talk,” said InuYasha, grabbing Miroku's arm.

“But…” said Miroku, stumbling as InuYasha dragged him away.

InuYasha turned around growling, and clonked him on the head.

“Hey!” said Miroku. “Why is everyone beating up on me?”

“Because you deserve it,” said InuYasha. “Now come on, let's go.”

Kagome walked over to Sango as InuYasha dragged Miroku away. The demon slayer had a tight expression on her face, and her arms were folded defensively over her chest.

“Let's take a walk, shall we?” said Kagome, smiling at her.

Sango shrugged and followed Kagome down the path by the fields towards the woods.

“I know this is hard for you,” said Kagome. “You should have seen how hard it was for InuYasha when we first got here.”

Sango just sighed and kept walking by Kagome's side.

“You know our monk,” said Kagome, “but you also know that he really has all our best interests at heart.”

“Yeah, I know,” said Sango softly. “But he should have told me what was going on - and now, you all want me to do this Tantric sex thing.”

“Sango, do you remember not too long ago when you told me it was time to tell InuYasha I loved him?” said Kagome.

“Yes,” said Sango, and smiled at Kagome a little.

“Well, you were right,” said Kagome. “InuYasha and I do truly love each other, and I am so happy you helped me find the courage to do what I did.”

“I'm glad,” said Sango, really smiling now. “You two are my closest friends, and I want you to be happy together.”

“Thank you,” said Kagome, her eyes lit with warmth as she looked at her friend. “But now it is my turn to tell you that it's about time you faced your feelings for Miroku and let him know about them.”

Sango gasped and halted in her tracks, blushing.

“How can I do that?” said Sango bitterly. “I don't want to admit that to him if he is just going to continue to proposition every attractive young woman we meet.”

“You just have to trust your heart,” said Kagome, gently touching Sango on the arm. “I believe he feels the same way about you. If you told him how you felt and asked him not to do that any more, I think he would change his ways for you.”

“Really?” said Sango doubtfully.

“Yes, I do,” said Kagome, putting all her sincerity into her words. “Tantric sex is best practiced between people who love each other first. And Miroku knows about a lot of the elements to it - he could work with you first before you join InuYasha and me.”

Sango frowned and shook her head.

“Oh, now we are back on that Tantric sex subject again,” said Sango disparagingly.

“Sango, you know our common goal of defeating Naraku is what brought us together,” said Kagome. “Even that stubborn, impulsive, jealous hanyou of mine was willing to put aside these feelings if it ultimately led to Naraku's defeat.”

Sango put her hands up and covered her flaming face.

“Okay, let me think about it,” said Sango grudgingly.

Kagome smiled and clasped her hands happily in front of her.

“And will you tell Miroku how you feel?” said Kagome hopefully.

“Do I have to?” said Sango in a small voice.

“It's time,” said Kagome. “You helped me see when it was time to tell InuYasha I loved him, now it's my turn to tell you.”

Sango took her hands off her face with a big sigh, and hung her head in embarrassment.

“Let's go find Miroku and InuYasha,” the demon slayer said.

“Great!” said Kagome enthusiastically, and grabbed Sango's hand as she turned around and walked in the direction the guys had taken.

Further down the road, InuYasha walked in front of Miroku, his hands in his sleeves.

`I'm no good at this crap,' InuYasha thought. `Why do I have to talk to this stupid monk? But if I don't, Kagome might get mad at me, so I guess I have to try.'

“Hey, Miroku,” said InuYasha.

“Yes, InuYasha?” Miroku replied, looking back over his shoulder for any sign of Kagome and Sango.

“Kagome tells me you really have feelings for Sango,” said InuYasha bluntly. “This true?”

“Well…” said Miroku hesitantly, putting his hand up to his chin.

InuYasha turned around suddenly and Miroku walked into him.

“Out with it monk!” InuYasha growled, grabbing Miroku's shoulders. “Are you or are you not in love with Sango?”

Miroku flushed and blinked at InuYasha in surprise. But InuYasha just stared him down, an annoyed looking snarl on his face.

“I don't know if Sango really feels the same as I do about her,” said Miroku, “although in Mt. Hakerei she did say she would rather die with me than leave me.”

“Isn't that enough to convince you of her feelings?” said InuYasha.

“Yes, but I couldn't get her to admit she had said it later,” said Miroku doubtfully.

“Can you blame her?” said InuYasha, and scoffed. “How can she trust you when you salivate at the sight of every pretty young woman we meet?”

“If she would have me, I wouldn't do that anymore,” said Miroku seriously.

“Then tell her that, you damn fool!” said InuYasha, and clonked Miroku on the head again.

“Ow!” said Miroku. “Would everybody stop hitting me already! With friends like you who needs enemies.”

“Come on,” said InuYasha. “I hear the girls coming back our way.”

Miroku was still holding his head as InuYasha grabbed his arm and started dragging him back the way they had come.

“And if you don't fess up to Sango, I'll punch you twice as hard!” InuYasha growled.

As Kagome and Sango came up the rise in the path, they spotted InuYasha and Miroku heading their way. Kagome dropped Sango's arm and went running ahead, waving at them. Sango dropped behind, slowing her pace. The demon slayer blushed and looked at her feet as she followed her younger friend towards the men.

“InuYasha! Miroku!” Kagome called happily, as she came up to them.

InuYasha stopped in front of Kagome, pulling Miroku into a stumbling halt next to him, as they waited for Sango to join them. Kagome turned and put her arm around Sango's shoulder. The demon slayer would not meet anyone's eye and was still blushing.

“We'll leave you two to talk,” said Kagome.

“And you better talk if you know what's good for you, monk!” said InuYasha threateningly.

“InuYasha, do you have to talk that way?” said Kagome.

“Come on wench, let's go,” said InuYasha, and hauled her up on his back and bounded away.

Shyly, Sango raised her face and her eyes locked with Miroku's. The monk took Sango's hand and the demon slayer bit her lip. If InuYasha and Kagome could admit their feelings for each other, (and the way those two used to fight, bicker and carry on, it seemed they would never get together), then it was finally time for Miroku and Sango to do the same. And they knew it.
