Chapter 43

This is No Ordinary Love, No Ordinary Love

The hot spring did not incur too much damage, all things considered. There was about a foot of water in it, which made doing group Tantric sex kind of interesting the first time. But the water didn't last - they all got a shower the first time they tried it. And Masahiro's field got watered again. The old monk made sure to stay in his house that time.

After three days, Kagome was comfortable with her control of the power. The only discomfort she had was from the pregnancy, which was still giving her the occasional morning sickness. And InuYasha's hovering was still getting on her nerves.

“Well, I think I have done all I can do for you,” said Masahiro at breakfast the morning of the fourth day after they had started their chakrapuja work. “It is time for you to take what you have learned and move on.”

“Thank you so much for everything you have done,” said Kagome with a sweet, sincere smile.

“After this, I believe I must have paid off my karmic debt,” said Masahiro. “I pray Buddha in his mercy will let me pass out of this world when I die, not to return to this world again.”

“Masahiro, I have been meaning to ask you,” said Kagome. “What exactly did you mean when you said InuYasha and I are karmicly linked.”

“You and InuYasha are soul mates,” said Masahiro. “You are destined to search each other out and be together through all your incarnations in this world, until the time comes for you to break the cycle of death and rebirth and ascend to the next level.”

This made Kagome smile, and her heart fill with warmth and love. She reached out and took InuYasha's hand and he held hers firmly, turning to look at her in wonder. It made such sense to them, to all they had experienced and been through together. So many questions seemed to be answered by Masahiro's statement.

“Personally, I truly hope I will not be reborn in this world if it means I am somehow linked to you and InuYasha,” said Masahiro wryly. “I don't think I could do this ever again and not stay in Buddha's good graces.”

“I think what our good monk is trying to say,” said Miroku, “is that he is glad this is over and good riddance.”

“Exactly,” said Masahiro, “and may Buddha grace your journey and quest with success, and never bring me another hanyou like InuYasha for the rest of this, or any other life.”

Everyone laughed softly except for InuYasha, who flushed and grumbled about everyone picking on him again. But Kagome turned and scratched behind his ear, grinning.

“Don't take it so bad,” she said. “You know I love you no matter what. You are my hanyou and I will always stay by your side.”

With a sigh, InuYasha pulled Kagome over closer to him and put his arm gently around her waist. She rested her head on his shoulder, and he finally gave off grumbling and smiled a little.

Preparations were made and they left after lunch. It was time to go back to Kaede's village and see the despondent kitsune they had had to leave behind.

“So what are we going to tell Shippo about what we have been doing?” said Kagome, perched on InuYasha's back.

“Do we have to tell the runt anything?” said InuYasha.

“Well, if Kagome is to power up, we will have to do chakrapuja,” said Miroku. “So if Shippo is to continue the quest with us, something will have to be said.”

“That's just great,” said InuYasha sarcastically. “How the hell are we to do that - and how the hell are we going to do chakrapuja dragging that kid around with us?”

“Good question,” said Kagome with a sigh. “We need a way to do it without exposing him to it.”

As they made their way down the mountain, Kagome thought about their predicament. Maybe there was away around this…

“I have an idea,” said Kagome, “but InuYasha and I will have to go back to my time to get what we need.”

“We will?” said InuYasha.

“Yes,” replied Kagome. “We won't be gone long, just long enough to get what I have in mind.”

“Are you going to tell your family about the pregnancy?” said Sango.

“I don't know,” said Kagome softly. “I'm afraid if I tell them they won't want me to return. And now that I have control of my powers, I really feel we are ready to finally defeat Naraku.”

“So we just won't tell them yet,” said InuYasha. “But you really should before the baby is born.”

“I will, I will,” said Kagome and buried her face in InuYasha's shoulder.

Late in the afternoon, they got back to Kaede's village. On the way, they had further discussed how to handle Shippo and the pregnancy. Kagome volunteered to be the one to talk to him, since it all revolved around her anyway. Everyone was fine with that, especially InuYasha. He didn't even think he wanted to be around when Kagome talked to Shippo. Knowing that brat, he most likely would make some snotty remark, and InuYasha did not know if he would be able to stop himself from clonking the brat in the head.

InuYasha put Kagome down on Kaede's front porch, and Miroku knocked on the door.

“You're finally back!” said Shippo enthusiastically, as he opened the door.

Kirara mewed a happy greeting and jumped into Sango's arms just as Shippo launched himself at Kagome.

“Be careful, runt!” said InuYasha warningly. “You can't be jumping on Kagome like that anymore.”

“Why not?” said Shippo innocently from Kagome's arms. “I always did before!”

InuYasha gave a low growl, crossing his arms and looking away. It was Kagome who had to tell Shippo about the pregnancy, so he was not going to answer.

“Come on, let's talk,” said Kagome, and carried Shippo in back of Kaede's house.

The little kitsune looked forlorn in Kagome's arms as she held him. She felt bad that he was probably feeling left out. It might be tricky, but she would have to try and explain to him what was going on.

Gently, Kagome placed Shippo on the ground and sat in front of him. He sat down and looked at her expectantly, and she smiled warmly and tried to make him feel at ease.

“InuYasha said that because he worries about me,” said Kagome. “He was not trying to be mean.”

“Since when did your problem include me?” said Shippo worriedly.

“You are not the problem,” said Kagome reassuringly. “It's me….I'm pregnant.”

“Wow, you are going to have a baby?” said Shippo excitedly, and then got thoughtful.

“What's the matter?” said Kagome at his expression.

“Umm…where does that leave me?” said Shippo.

“Well, you can be a big brother,” said Kagome, smiling.

“Hey, that's right!” said Shippo. “That will be great!”

It made Kagome happy to see him look so enthusiastic. Well, that was one thing down, but explaining the rest was another matter entirely. She twisted the edge of her skirt in her hands and bit her lip as she tried to gather her thoughts.

“That isn't the only thing that has changed,” Kagome said in a quiet, serious voice.

“Does this have to do with what you guys were doing at that monk Masahiro's house?” said Shippo, looking up at her curiously.

“Yes,” said Kagome. “We have learned how to control and harness my powers, and greatly increase them without any ill effects to me.”

“That's good news!” said Shippo. “So why do you look so nervous?”

“What InuYasha, Miroku, Sango and I are doing is something you cannot be part of,” said Kagome. “It is a Tantric ritual that we must perform together in private.”

Shippo's face drooped, and he quickly went to looking forlorn again.

“Does this mean you don't want me with you guys anymore?” said Shippo sadly.

“No, not at all,” said Kagome, reaching out to ruffle his hair. “But when we have to do our ritual, you are not to ask any questions and just wait until it is over.”

Shippo opened his mouth to respond, and then thought better of it. If InuYasha was one of the ones who did not want him to be involved, it just wasn't worth fighting. The hanyou already seemed to be on edge over Kagome's pregnancy. No telling what he would do to Shippo if he got too curious. The kitsune may end up with a permanent headache, despite the beads of subjugation Kagome controlled.

“So, will you accept what I have told you?” said Kagome.

“Yes,” said Shippo. “I guess I really don't have a choice, do I?”

“I'm so glad,” said Kagome with a brilliant smile, a feeling of relief washing over her. “One more thing. InuYasha and I have to go back to my time tomorrow.”

“Oh, no, not again!” Shippo wailed.

“Don't worry, we will be right back,” said Kagome.

“Oh, all right,” said Shippo in a sulky voice and stared at the ground.

“That's the way,” said Kagome, giving his hair one last rustle. “Let's go back to the others.”

Back in Kaede's house, InuYasha, Miroku and Sango sat talking to Kaede. They stopped talking as Kagome and Shippo entered.

“We filled Kaede in on everything,” said Miroku as they came and sat down.

“Everything?” said Kagome, settling by InuYasha's side.

“Yeah, including the baby,” said InuYasha.

“This is quite a serious situation,” said Kaede. “I hope you understand the risks you are taking having a baby while continuing to fight Naraku.”

“If our child is to be born, I would rather have destroyed Naraku before it comes into this world,” said Kagome.

The old miko nodded her head in understanding, even though she worried about all their fates.

They had dinner and settled down for the night. Tomorrow, Kagome and InuYasha would return to Kagome's time for hopefully the last time before they defeated Naraku.
