Kagome grabbed a magazine from a stack on the table and sat back in her chair. She had been waiting to be seen for over 2 hours how, but she supposed that was because of the number of people in the er waiting room. Inu Yasha sat beside her, fussing with his modern clothing and glaring at the registration nurse. She and her okasan tackled him when they came through the well, and shoved him into loose fitting jeans, a gray t-shirt, sneakers and one of Souta's baseball caps. It had taken lots of struggling and a few uses of 'osuwari' to get him to comply, but now he blended in well enough for him to accompany her. There were still a few people in the city who remembered newscasts of "the boy in red" who ran through the city saving a child from a burning apartment complex and stopping a bank robber. It was just easier if he stood out as little as possible for someone with golden eyes, claws, fangs, dog ears and ass length silver hair.
regular doctor's had been booked full, and they had referred her to the emergency room to get x-rays and sonograms. Inu Yasha had been insistent that she be examined after her fall, and had demanded that he go as well. She had been hesitant to let him, especially since there was no way they could justify bringing the Tetsaiga with them. However, the hanyou only transformed to a full demon state when his life was in danger. So far, the only thing Inu Yasha was in danger of was falling asleep from boredom. He leaned back in his chair and yawned, raising his arms above his head in an almost cat-like stretch.

"Higurashi, Kagome" called a tired sounding nurse. When Kagome stood, the nurse pushed a wheelchair over to her, and helped her sit. With a small growl, Inu Yasha grabbed the handles on the back of the chair from the nurse.
"Fine, whatever, just follow me." was her only response, and she led them to an examination room. The nurse handed her a gown and instructed her to change before leaving to fetch the equipment they would need. Kagome rose and tried to take off her clothes, but only got as far as tugging up her shirt before her husband took over.
carefully stripped her down to her underwear, and then helped her into her gown. He had been to the emergency room a few times with her in the past, so he was accustomed to the routine. The first time, he had nearly taken off the head and hands of the male nurse who had come in to hook up the ekg. In Inu Yasha's defense, however, Kagome had been a crying wreck who had just miscarried their first child. That was enough to have any doting husband on edge. Now, apparently there was now a note in her file that "male staff should avoid treating this patient if her aggressive, asocial husband is present." Inu Yasha lifted her easily onto the bed, pulling the sheet and a thin blanket up to her chin. He then dragged a chair from the corner of the room to her bedside and sat beside her. He was about to ask if she was warm enough when a nurse entered the room, dragging machinery and a frazzled looking doctor behind her.
exam passed without incident, and the baby pronounced healthy and thriving. They did discover Kagome strained her right wrist when she fell, but a compression wrap and a couple days rest would easily correct that. The nurse instructed Inu Yasha in how to properly wrap the compression bandage, and then the couple was left alone to gather their things. As he tugged on her shoes, he noticed the salty smell of her tears begin to permeate the air. While she wasn't crying yet, she was about to, and that thought did not sit well with the hanyou.

"What's wrong, Kagome? You're fine, the baby is fine, so there isn't anything to get upset about." He tied her shoelaces and stood, wrapping his arms around her in a supportive embrace. She wrapped her arms around his waist and squeezed him back, resting her head against his chest.
just.. remembering the first time we came here." she replied. She did not continue, and he didn't push the subject. The wounds were still too fresh. He helped his wife gather the rest of her things, and they left for the well.

body tensed as the taiyoukai entered the clearing surrounding her friends' home. She lifted hiraikotsu into position, ready to either block or strike at a moments notice. Her whole being seemed to scream with outrage at his presence, and she fought to control her anger. Loosing control in this situation could cost her life, as well as that of Kaede's. Her opponent was a powerful youkai, and he would not be easy to defeat. 'I will see him dead, though' she promised herself. 'How dare he use me like that! The bastard has a death wish appearing before me after what he did!'
stopped his approach around 30 feet away, so that he could assess his "opponents". The elderly miko was not much of a threat, but her barrier would prevent him from entering the home if he so needed. The taijia moved to stand in front of the miko, her weapon ready for battle. His golden eyes locked with her brown ones, and he was not surprised by the hate he saw reflected in them. 'I do deserve it, after all.' he reminded himself. Her stance promised pain if he moved any closer to her, and although he was not fearful, he chose to remain where he was. She was standing within the miko's barrier, and as long as she remained there, he was unable to reach her.
carefully observed the youkai, trying to predict his next move by watching his body language. When he came to a stop, she watched him quickly scan his surroundings, followed by a glance at Kaede. His eyes had then locked on to hers, and had not strayed since. He made no comments or moves towards them as he watched her. Sango thought she saw remorse in those eyes for a fraction of a second, before it was replaced with the impassive mask she was more accustomed to. She shifted her weapon into a defensive stance in front of her, unsure at this point what his motives were. The silence continued for several minutes, until Kaede felt compelled to break it.

"Why are ye here, Sesshomaru?" She knew she risked insulting him by dropping the honorific, but cared very little after what he did to Sango. It appeared that the youkai chose to ignore her, however, as his next question was directed at Sango.

"Where is Inuyasha?" he asked. His eyes were still fixed on hers, and Sango found herself growing uneasy under his gaze. She had to fight the urge to look away, and forced herself to continue watching him. Sesshomaru was so agile that if she dropped her guard for even a fraction of a second, he would have an opportunity to subdue her. When he began to slowly walk forwards, Sango swung hiraikotsu in back of her, ready hurl the massive boomerang at him. He stopped some ten feet in front of her, pausing for a moment before speaking again.

"His scent is old... he has not been here in several hours." he observed. The gentle summer breeze carried a variety of aromas to him, but none stood out in his mind as much as that of the taijia. She still smelled as fresh and pure as she had at the spring, but now possessed a trace of something new. He took another slow step forwards, intent on analyzing the new facet of her scent. It reminded of the earth, freshly tilled in the springtime; deep, rich, and fertile. He was also disturbed to find a hint of his own scent still on her. 'It should not remain... my scent should have faded within two days at the most. The only reasons it would still remain is if she has not bathed, or if she is....' His eyes widened with shock as he realized the reason for her change.
had come here to discuss reparations to the girl with Inuyasha. It would have been a simple matter to simply make an offering to them, and leave with his honor partially salvaged. Once reparations were made, he would have no ties to any of them. She would still be able to live a rich and fulfilling life, as well as find a husband. Now, things were more complicated. The taijia was carrying his child, and he felt certain no man would want her after she gave birth to a hanyou. He would have to take her as his own wife, restoring her honor and allowing him to protect the weak, half-breed progeny his actions had created. Sesshomaru felt his half brother would only allow the taijia to go with him of her own free will; and a quick look at the woman poised for battle before him told the taiyoukai that she would hardly go willingly. 'Better to take her now before he returns' he thought grimly.

"You will be coming with me, taijia." he stated coldly. He flexed his fingers, summoning a toxic acid that dripped from his claws. It dripped freely onto the ground, and where it contacted the soil, great clouds of noxious gas rose into the air. He knew that the elderly miko's barrier would prevent him from approaching the taijia. His approach was simple; incapacitate the miko, and the obstacle would be removed. Sango flung hiraikotsu at him, intent on trying to disrupt his attack. He easily knocked the boomerang off course, and the acid from his claws transferred to the weapon. She watched with dismay as the acid dissolved it, and pulled her katana from its sheath.
gas easily permeated the barrier, and the miko's barrier crumbled when she fell to the ground. The taijia struggled for a moment to breathe, and then pulled out the mask he knew she carried. Sango surprised him when she laced the mask not over her own mouth, but the miko's. She tried to lift the elderly woman, apparently intent on escaping the area. The old miko's arm was over her shoulder with her own around the miko, and she was backing away from the youkai with her blade held defensively towards him in one hand. He ceased the acid attack, and prepared for his next move.
charged her, running so swiftly that all Sango saw was a silver blur. He grappled with her a moment, his hand wrapped securely around her right wrist. He twisted sharply, not hard enough to break her fragile human body, but with enough force to disarm her. The sudden movement dislodged her hold on the unconscious miko, and Kaede fell to the ground with an unceremonious thump. Sango spun inwards towards her attacker while he maintained his grasp on her arm, sweeping out one of his legs from under him with her own. Her momentum carried her to where her back was parallel to his chest, and she elbowed him in the solar plexus while he was still off balance. His hold on her arm weakened enough that she broke free, and pulled back several feet from her opponent.
was surprised at how fast she had moved. She was fighting like a cornered animal, and that made her dangerous in the long run. Although her blows hadn't done any real harm, they had still been enough to break his hold. He could not harm her, and it was proving bothersome to subdue her as a result. He charged her again, giving the illusion of a frontal assault, before feinting to the side. He was in back of her before she could react, his hand again taking hold of a forearm. He pressed her back tightly against his chest, pinning her arm firmly across her chest with his own. Sesshomaru locked one of his feet around her ankle, pulling her off balance, and keeping her mobility limited.
struggled futilely against the hold, feeling her strength abandon her from the poison she inhaled. She could have laughed when she saw where his hand and forearm was, pressed against her own. With a quick maneuver of her wrist, the hidden blade beneath her sleeve was released. The force behind the spring mechanism drove the long, slender blade diagonally 3/4 of the way through Sesshomaru's hand and up into his wrist. It severed nerves, tendons, bones and muscle and was only stopped when the youkai pulled away in pain. Sango doubted it would permanently injure him, but it would allow her time to escape. She sprinted to where her katana lay, snatched it from the ground, and pivoted to face her opponent.
tested his injured hand, evaluating the damage. It would heal, but it would take time. The nerves she severed would need several weeks to recover fully. It would prove difficult to incapacitate the woman, but not impossible. A feral growl escape his lips when his brother's scent suddenly appeared from the direction of the dry well, and he was forced to concede to a temporary retreat. He turned to face the taijia, who was struggling to stand.

"I will return for you... and for my child."
being said, he disappeared into the haze of poisonous gas that still filled the air. Sango valiantly struggled against the poison until she heard the cries of her friends in the distance. She knew then that she was safe, and allowed herself to slide into unconsciousness.
