Chapter 31
Woo hoo!
“What’s for dinner Emi?” She got concerned when no one answered. “Emi? Emi!? Damn she’s usually home in the afternoons. “Katsu!?” She heard a muffled reply and walked in the direction of the voice.
“Katsu?”
“In here dear.” She walked in the living room where Katsu was watching TV with Miroku.
“Where’s Emi?” She sat down on the couch next to Miroku, and took Kiei from his lap.
“Uhh…I think she took Shippou somewhere.” She nodded and looked to see what they were watching.
“Do you think Kagome will like the surprise?” Shippou looked innocently at his ‘mother’.
“Of course dear! She’ll absolutely love it!” He smiled happily and skipped along.
“Emi, what is Kagome’s favorite color?”
“I think its green dear.” He nodded and ran over to where the color green was the most dominant. He pressed his face against the glass and breathed. He growled in frustration when his breath fogged the glass. His eyes widened and he wiped the glass clear.
“This one!” He jumped up and down and pointed his finger at the one he wanted.
“This one sweetie? Are you sure?” She looked uneasily at the price tag before sighing and deciding it was okay. She told the store clerk and he bagged the item up for them.
“Can I carry the bag!? Please!?” She smiled and handed him the bag.
“I hope Kagome likes it. She’s been so glum lately and I just figured she needed something to cheer her up.”
“That’s so sweet of you Shippou. I’m sure she’ll love it.” The smile never left his small face as they made their way to the car, then home.
“Rin, did you have a good day with Miss Kagome yesterday?” The dog demon looked up from his dinner and looked at his daughter.
“Yes Daddy! Rin had loads of fun! Auntie Kags and Uncle Inu took Rin to the water park…And we played all day! And Rin didn’t even get a sunburn!” The little girl jumped happily in her seat.
“What did I tell you about jumping around at the dinner table?” She stopped and looked pensive.
“The same thing you told me at the breakfast table, the kitchen counter, the lunch table, and everywhere else we have eaten. ‘Don’t jump around unless I want my food in my lap.’”
“Exactly.” He took a sip of his drink. “Are you going to listen for once?” She sighed and nodded her head.
“Daddy…Can I have friends over this weekend for my birthday.” He looked at her.
“It’s your birthday this weekend?” She nodded. “Well…I suppose it would be okay. How many were you planning on having?” She didn’t even bat an eyelash in thinking.
“Everyone.” He sighed but nodded his head none-the-less.
“That’s fine. You’ll just have to tell all of the hired help what’s going on. And where is Inuyasha? I haven’t seen him all day.” As if on cue, the grumpy teen stumbled into the room.
“What?” He really didn’t like the stares coming from the two sitting at the table. “Why are you staring at me?!”
“Did you just wake up?” He scratched his stomach and yawned.
“Yeah. What of it?”
“It’s five o’ clock in the evening. Why are you just waking up?”
“Uhh…No…Well…I couldn’t fall asleep…And I guess….Uhh when I did…It must have been this morning…So…Why do you care?” The older of the two brothers shrugged.
“Is it wrong to inquire about where my little brother has been all day.”
“Yeah. I’m going to Miroku’s. See ya later.” He started heading towards the door. Sesshomaru clearing his throat caused him to turn around. His raised an eyebrow in question.
“You’re wearing that?” Rin giggled.
“Uncle Inu’s going to Roku’s in his undies!” Said hanyou looked down and realized he was in fact, in his boxers. His face flushed a light pink and he raced up to his room to change.
“Hello? Is anyone home?” Emi called as she opened the door.
“We’re in the living room!” She and Shippou headed towards the living room where they could hear laughter and the faint sound of the movie Madagascar in the background.
“How long is this going to take!?” Shippou burst into the room giggling.
“I love King Julian! He’s my favorite character on the whole movie!”
“Well mine is the little lemur! He’s just so adorable!”
“Like me?” Shippou inquired as he climbed to sit in the older girl’s lap. She laughed.
“Yes, like you.” He giggled and turned his attention towards the TV.
“I love this movie! It’s my favorite!” She smiled down at the young boy and noticed a purple bag clutched tightly in his little hands.
“Shippou, what’s in the bag?” He looked away from the TV and blinked, confused.
“Wha?”
“What’s in the bag?” She pointed at the bag in question to clear her point.
“Oh…It’s a present! It’s for you!” He held it up for her, smiling happily.
“See if he is a king, then where is his crown! I’m a king and I’ve got a crown! It’s a very nice one, and it’s here on my head! Have I got it on!?”
She gasped in surprise and tears rose to her eyes. ‘It’s so beautiful!’
“Oh Shippou!” She pulled him up in a tight hug. “Thank you so much! I absolutely love it! But why did you get me a present? It’s not my birthday…”
“Well…You’re my sister, and I love you…And I don’t like to see you sad.” His eyes shone with so much childish innocence that tears really did fall from her eyes.
“Kagome…What’s wrong?” His smile fell. ‘Did I do something wrong?’
“Nothing Shippou!” ‘I miss my mommy…’ “I’m just so happy!” She placed the shimmering green-jeweled chain around her neck. It looked so lovely next to the large purple jewel that already resided on a chain around her neck. “Thank you so much Shippou!!” She hugged him and didn’t let go. They watched the movie in peace with Emi shooting glances over every so often.
‘That poor girl. I’m just so glad she met Shippou. They will do wonders for one another.’
I didn’t realize as I was writing about Rin’s birthday, that my birthday is this weekend! Lol! My birthday is the 25th. I can’t wait! I’m turning 14! : )
