Chapter 6
Th-thump. Th-thump. Th-thump.
I have to find him…I won't let him have her.
Running through the forest a dark figure could be seen through the trees. The sky above was covered in gray, thundering clouds, making the figure hardly visible. Rain pelted the Earth as the figure kept running. His heart was pounding through his chest, making all that much harder to breathe. But he knew he couldn't stop now because if he did…
Where is she?! Please Kami…let her be alright.
He could feel his calves on fire and his lungs about to burst but that didn't stop him. Taking longer strides now, the boy didn't even have enough time to register the rock in front of him. Before he could catch himself it was too late and he went face first into the muddy ground. He didn't care that he was all covered in mud, or the fact that he twisted his ankle. He just needed to get to her, that's all that mattered to him.
Putting his head down in defeat, he silently cried in frustration for being so weak. Listening to the pouring rain around him and the thundering clouds above, he heard a familiar lullaby being sung by a feminine voice.
Looking up, his sweat on his forehead mingled with the fresh rain water. Like a lost sailor to a Siren, the young boy stood up and followed the voice. His clothes no longer contained any traces of mud, for the pounding rain had washed it away. As he walked towards the source of the singing, it grew louder in volume. The melodious voice soon led him to an abandoned well-house.
Why does this place look so familiar?
Through all the rain, he could still smellher. He would never forgive himself if anything happened to her. Why was her scent so strong in the middle of a rainstorm, he didn't know, neither did he care. He found her, that's all that mattered.
Opening the shoji doors to the well-house, the boy looked in. Looking around the whole well-house until his eyes landed on a pair of innocent eyes. She was dressed in the traditional miko outfit, which was surprising since she hasn't worn that in 7 yrs. She had her raven locks tied back into a low ponytail, her arms around a black, brown, and white cat.
“Buyo.” the mysterious boy said.
The cat immediately jumped out of her lap to the teen boy to rub against his leg affectionately and run out into the pouring rain. The young girl continued to smile at him and began to get up as well.
“You found me.” she stated.
Smiling proudly, the boy began to walk towards her when there was a sickening crack.
Both sets of eyes looked towards the boarded well and back to one another. That's when he saw it but it was too late, another loud crack was heard throughout the empty well-house as it rained splintered wood everywhere.
A long snake like figure wrapped its way around the young girl's torso, pulling her back in the well. The haunting laugh that echoed along the walls was drowned out by the girl's terrified scream.
“Souta!” she screamed, tears running down her face.
The snake like arm tugged one last time and successfully pulled the terrified woman into the well. The raven-haired beauty thinking quickly grasped for the first thing she could and that was the edge of the well. Holding on for dear life as the mysterious shaded figure continued to pull, she screamed once more.
No. he thought frightened. This can't be happening! Not her, anyone but her.
Running forward the boy grasped the older girl's forearms. Pulling with all his strength he couldn't manage to bring her out of the well. Tears of frustration ran down Souta's face as he tried desperately to save the girl from her fate.
“Let her go you bastard!” he screamed at the darkness.
“Do you really believe you can save her, boy? She belongs to me now, her and the sacred jewel! You might as well just GIVE UP!” a man voiced angrily as he gave one last powerful tug with his tentacle, successfully making the young girl loose her grip and start to fall into the depths of the well.
Making one last attempt to grab for her arm, he gripped the lip of the well and jumped in, trying to reach for her outstretched hand.
Their fingers brushed one another before she fully disappeared into the darkness.
NO. NOOOO!
“KAGOME!!!”
~*~*~*~*~
Souta opened his eyes, cold sweat beading down from his forehead.
“Kagome…” he whispered.
Sitting up in the bed, he heard pounding footsteps coming from down the hall. No sooner later, three shadowed figures ended up in his doorway.
~10 minutes earlier~
“I can't believe this. I can't believe I let it happen.” a young boy mumbled under his breath.
He continued to pace the floor and mumble incoherent sentences. Across the room sitting on the couch was the silver-haired hanyou, watching the teen pace back and forth. Sitting next to him on the floor was a meditating Miroku, the two cases with the valuable items sat beside him.
The girls, with a lot of persuasion, went to sleep a few hours ago. It was already 3:00 in the morning and they still haven't seen any good results from Kage.
Still watching Kohaku pace back and forth, Inuyasha began to lose his patience.
“Will you stop that already?! You're making me nervous!” he finally yelled.
Kohaku looked up and as he did…
“KAGOME!!!” echoed across the entire mansion.
~OoOoOoOoOoO~
After a long silence, one of the figures spoke, “You okay, Kage?”
Instantly remembering exactly where he was but before he could catch himself, he blurted, “Where the hell is my sister?!”
Inuyasha raised one of his eyebrows at the demanding tone in the boy's voice. “I don't know what the hell you're talking about kid.” He said in a very dry tone. He liked him a lot better when he was silent.
“Where's my sister.” He asked again, well more like stated.
Before Inuyasha could ask, Kohaku quickly intervened. “You must be confused, Kage. Your sister isn't here.” he said in a warning tone.
Unfortunately, Kage didn't take the hint. “Where's my sister?! I know she's here!” he yelled. He was going into hysterics now, `I just need to know if she's okay.'
More footsteps could be heard, frantically making their way towards his room. Two more figures entered his room, obviously being female this time. They both looked like hell. Having to wake up after a restless sleep, they ran when they first heard the boy scream but got lost in the huge mansion.
Before anyone could question the young boy further, he took one good look at the girls and sighed in relief. `She's safe.' He was so relieved. It all had just been a dream. But then again, why did he feel a foreboding sensation?
“S-S-Souta?” a quiet, shaky voice could be heard over the dead silence.
`Damn, might as well come clean.' Heaving a deep sigh, the said boy looked up and locked eyes with his older sister. “Yeah, it's me Kags.”
She was caught in between strangling him for keeping this from her and hugging him to death because her little brother was going to live. She had been so worried.
Running over to her brother, careful of his injury, she embraced him in a bone-crushing hug. Tears were flowing freely from the raven-haired woman, while the boy just simply held her. Once she let go of him though, she gave him a pleasant smile and with no warning grabbed a pillow and constantly hit him over the head with it.
“You're such-whack- a fucking-whack-idiot!” She yelled between hitting her brother.
Everyone was too shocked by the quick change in personalities that it took them a while to realize she was beating the shit out of her brother, who was still injured. Pulling her off, Sango had to remind her of just that but it was obvious Kagome was still fuming.
“I can't believe you hid this from me, Souta Higurashi! I tell you everything that goes on in my life, what would've happened if I haven't known about this? Do you not think that I wouldn't have worried about you if you didn't come home the next few days?” she ranted.
Feeling incredibly guilty, he hung his head in shame. “I'm sorry Kagome. I just didn't know how to tell you.”
Tension hung heavy in the air between the siblings. Turning on her heel no one expected the next words coming out of the enraged woman's mouth. “You fucking bastard! How dare you get young teens do your dirty work for you?! My own brother, for fuck's sake!” she screamed at the surprised hanyou.
Inuyasha flattened his sensitive ears against the high-pitched screaming. Narrowing his eyes in annoyance, he opted to hear what else she had to say before he blew up. As she ranted on, it kept fueling his rage and had his demon screaming for him to make her submit.
Sensing the oncoming battle, the trio of figures that were long forgotten slipped out of the room unnoticed and leaving poor Souta to deal with the stubborn couple. Souta sweat dropped as he saw his best friend leave him to deal with the miko and demon's wrath. `Oh well, might as well let them know I still need my rest. But then again, what was that dream about? Oh well I'll think about it tomorrow. But for now…'
“Guys, if you don't mind can you have your lover's quarrel outside? I want to go back to sleep.” And without waiting for a reply, he was out like a light.
Watching her little brother for a little while longer to make sure he would sleep well, she grabbed the stuttering hanyou and headed outside. Obviously the words `lover's quarrel' had left him speechless. But the young miko was too mad at this point to even care. By now, Inuyasha had gained back some of his consciousness and asked her `where they were going'. Letting go of his arm, she turned to give him one last glare before heading towards the stairs and to the front door. She needed air and she needed it now because if she didn't, there would be murder.
After she gave him that glare, he couldn't help but feel a slight chill run up his spine. But then again, he wouldn't let some bitch just up and leave after giving him an earful, even if he did deserve it. No, he would make her pay.
Before he even knew what he was doing he landed in between her and her escape, the door. “Look Bitch, I'm not finished with you yet. Yeah, I let you win back there but that doesn't mean I'll let you have the last say.” His aura radiated dominance and ordered her to submit. Too bad Kagome was just too stubborn to realize it.
“Well excuse me your highness, but you're the one who got yourself in this mess in the first place. If you hadn't involved my bro-”
“I didn't even know he was your fucking brother!” he interrupted heatedly. “But I wouldn't have given a fuck less if he was because you want to know why? Because he chose to be in the gang, anonymously but he still chose! You got to fucking see that I don't control your brother!” he growled angrily. How dare this bitch accuse him for her brother being in the gang. It wasn't his damned fault, damn it!
“You're a fucking piece of work, you know that?” she glared at him one last time before reaching for the door but was once again blocked from leaving. This was beginning to get annoying. “What the fuck's your problem?” `Wow, I never cussed so much in my life.' she amusedly thought.
“You're my fucking problem, woman. You have no right to judge something you don't know shit about.” Inuyasha seethed. He'd never been so infuriated in his life.
Sensing the battle was never going to end, she did the one thing she hated doing, she gave in. “Fine, whatever. Can you move now?” she really needed a walk and she wasn't going to have some infuriated hanyou stop her. But he had other plans for her…
“You are not going anywhere, Bitch.”
“Like hell I'm going to listen to you, now get the hell out of my way.” Trying fruitlessly to push him out of the way, only to have him capture her wrist and pull her flush against him.
“You sure you want to do that?” he whispered huskily in her ear.
Her breath caught in her throat. How was he able to do that? Just by simply whispering to her got her all hot and bothered. `No. I will not give into him.'
But the fiery words that were going to make themselves known died in her throat as he begun to assault her tender neck with hot open kisses. Her eyes rolled back as she let out a breathy moan. So lost in the fuzziness of her mind she didn't even notice that he picked her up and began the trek to his room, never breaking the contact of her skin against his mouth.
Reality finally hit her as she hit the softness of his bed. `I can't. I can't do this.' Fortunately for her and unfortunately for Inuyasha, she broke the contact. “I-I think I s-should got to my room.” She stuttered as she pushed him off and ran as if the devil was on her heels. `That was way to close.'
“Damn.” Was Inuyasha's last word before he went to sleep. He never expected the wave of guilt that would wash over him and prevent him from getting any ounce of sleep that night.
~OoOoOoOoOoO~
It had been almost a month since Kagome found out Souta now worked `part-time' with the Shizuka Ryooshi, along with Miroku and Kohaku. Man, did she feel bad for them. Souta thought he had it bad…he's just lucky he didn't have to deal with Sango's wrath.
“Higurashi!”
Startled out of her thoughts, Kagome looked up into a twin of brown orbs, clearly showing their annoyance.
“Gomen-nasai, Oshiro-sensei.”
The older woman looked at Kagome a little while longer before returning to the lesson. Kagome visibly relaxed and sighed in relief that she hadn't been questioned again. Her teacher's were beginning to get suspicious and they were all constantly asking her about what she's been doing to get her so distracted. What was she suppose to say? `Oh nothing much, just reading a book that is supposed to be banned from all students in the school, my brother's a part of a notorious gang and I'm being seduced by their gang leader. Other than that I'm just fine.' She finished her mental rant sarcastically.
Riiiiiinnnnngggggg!!!!
`Finally, I just hope I don't run into Kouga on my way out.' Kouga had been making it a habit to see her every day, after her last class. Just to see her beautiful face as he once said. She was seriously starting to get annoyed.
Gathering her things she made her way towards the door and sure enough there the wolf demon was, leaning against the wall, casually waiting for as if he was her boyfriend. Mentally rolling her eyes, Kagome placed a fake smile on her face.
“Hi, Kouga.” She greeted half heartedly.
“Hey to you too, beautiful.” Kouga said. Smiling sheepishly, she and Kouga made their way out of the double doors and towards the parking lot out front. Kagome constantly kept looking over at him and noticed he was in deep thought and just as she was about to say farewell she found that Kouga had grabbed her hands in his and non-too-politely asked her to go on a date with on Valentine's Day. Well it sounded more like a demand then a question but she was still shocked.
“Nani?!” she hadn't meant to sound rude but she had completely forgot that Valentine's Day was coming up. She didn't celebrate it because she believed that everyday should be Valentine's Day but whatever that was just her. `Damn. I was hoping to avoid this.'
“Valentine's Day is coming up in a few days and I was hoping you would go on a date with me.” Kouga looked so hopeful, but she had to decline.
“I'm sorry Kouga, I can't becau-” she didn't get to finish her sentence because a pair of very familiar arms wrapped themselves around her. To her annoyance this was becoming a habit. Every time a situation like this occurred she would be wrapped in his arms, causing a fight between the two males and always ending with the same security guard breaking them up. It's gotten to the point where they were first name basis with him, calling him Buddah. She inwardly laughed at that but was brought quickly back to the present situation at hand.
It wasn't like him to do these kinds of things in public but ever since that night, no matter how much times he told himself he just couldn't keep his hands to himself. Yeah he did regret for coming on too strong like that, but he would never force a girl to do something they didn't want to do. It was just the fact that he made her feel those things and not that wimpy-wolf made him fill with `male-pride'. After that night, he silently claimed her as his and absently scent-marked her. The foolish wolf should have known by now that by her scent, he was starting to court her and that he should back the fuck off. Now here he was silently seething behind his smug smirk as he comfortably held Kagome in his arms. His grin widened further as she unconsciously leaned into his embrace.
`Oh fuck no. I let it go last time but fuck this!' “Hey mutt-face back off of my woman. “Why don't you go find your own or better yet go back to your whore Kikyou?!” He seethed angrily.
Narrowing his eyes in annoyance, he spat, “Kagome isn't your fucking woman, and besides I wouldn't touch that back stabbing bitch with a ten foot pole especially after you had a round with her.”
Growling angrily, Kouga didn't expect his youki to flare. Sensing the danger, Inuyasha pushed Kagome behind him as he fought his own youkai from showing itself. He knew Kagome must've had some idea he wasn't any normal human, but no sense in blowing his cover and revealing himself as `Shai'.
“Inuyasha, this is stupid! You guys are acting like a bunch of animals trying to win the female!” Kagome yelled at him.
People were beginning to stare, waiting for the scene to unfold and she was starting to get nervous. What if one of them got really hurt?
“That's exactly what we're doing, bitch.” That voice. She looked up to see Kouga, fangs and claws elongated and his once icy blue eyes turned to a deep navy bluish-green color. His youki was so strong it even made some of the humans flinch.
His voice was much deeper and scarier when he transformed, she was afraid of him. She looked to Inuyasha worriedly but failed to notice that he was beginning to have the same conflicts too.
“What Inuyasha afraid to show your true form?” Kouga laughed at him. “You're pathetic.” And without much of a warning Kouga attacked.
Still in his human form, Inuyasha dodged the attack graciously. What he was worried about was Kagome getting caught in the middle.
“Kagome! Get out of here, it isn't safe!” Inuyasha yelled, right before dodging another blow. Sensing the raging anger rolling off Kouga in waves she backed up.
“What about you?!” she asked worriedly, after all he was all human, right?
“I'll be fine!” As Kouga dealt another blow, Inuyasha caught his wrist in mid-strike and caught the raging youkai off-guard. Taking that as an opportunity, Inuyasha kicked Kouga right above his abdomen and sent him flying across the almost-empty parking lot. There were hoots, whistles, and constant chanting of `fight' but he did not let that worry him. All he was worried about was Kagome's safety and the charging demon coming his way…but more for Kagome's safety.
Tackling Inuyasha to the ground gave the wolf demon the upper hand as he started sending blows to the hanyou's face. Inuyasha tried to block as many punches as he could but a few got through his attempts to block. `Damn it. I need to get up!'
Sensing no Kagome near the scene, `probably to get help', he let himself transform and flew Kouga off of him. Staring at him through gold-tinged red-eyes he sent the wolf youkai a round-house kick to his face making him stumble a little. After Inuyasha gained his footing, he began to mindlessly throw punches. He gave one last upper cut sending the wolf flying half way through the air and landing on the gravel covered ground a few feet away.
Noticing the wolf's youki flare down, Inuyasha wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, as his demon features began to recede. He had to admit the wolf was good, but he was better. Grinning in satisfaction that the wolf was having a hard time sitting up, Inuyasha set out to look for the missing miko.
~OoOoOoOoOoO~
Too be honest she hadn't expected to see the raven-haired boy to come back in one piece. Especially after seeing the way Kouga had transformed the way he did. He looked like he was going to kill! She was surprised Inuyasha had made it out of there alive and Kouga wounded. `But how could that be? He is human, right?' she wondered to herself.
To say he was glad to find out he was right was an understatement. She had gone looking for Buddah which was lucky for him because if she would've stayed, he would've surely lost the fight or revealed the secret he's been trying to hide from her.
After he found her trying to talk the security guard into coming with her, he explained that it was all just misunderstanding and they solved the problem. Buddah gave him a curious stare knowing better but the fight was over now and there was nothing he could do. He was certainly happier though because of the fact that he wouldn't have to get in between them and break them up again.
Now they were riding in Inuyasha's red, 2008 Dodge Viper. Supposedly, Inuyasha said it wasn't safe for her to catch the city bus like she normally did, not while that rabid wolf was still out there.
Parking his car in front of the shrine, Kagome picked up her things and said a quick `thank you' before going to open the car door. Unfortunately she didn't get that far enough before she was tugged gently back by the boy who was now holding her wrist.
She looked at him questionably and asked, “Yes, Inuyasha?”
“Is that how you say goodbye to your new boyfriend?”
Clearly shocked, she choked out the words, “B-Boyfriend? When did I agree to become your girlfriend?”
“Today.” He stated simply.
“How about I'll think about it?” she answered nervously.
“Are you done?”
“With what?” she said, confused.
“Thinking about it.”
“Look Inuyasha, I don't think that's such-”
She was cut off by his lips pressed against her own. Slowly, seductively, he began a sensual assault of her lips making her part them unknowingly letting his tongue access into her awaiting mouth. He slowly ran his tongue over every crevice of her cavern, encouraging her tongue to do the same. After a few minutes of mind blowing kisses, the two parted with their foreheads resting against one another.
“So, Thursday night then.”
“What's Thursday night?”
“Our first official date.”
~OoOoOoOoOoO~
I know this chapter is just a filler more than anything..
Don't worry there would be more action in the next one and more explaining on the plot so it seems more interesting…
