Do You Promise?

The next morning Inuyasha woke up late so he had to hurry up for school. He got dressed quickly, and had to get a ride from Sesshomaru if he wanted to make it on time. He stood In Sesshomaru's doorway, as he was getting ready for work. Sesshomaru glanced up quickly at him.

"What do you want?" Sesshomaru mumbled.

"I know you told me you needed your car, but I need a ride to school." Inuyasha said.

Sesshomaru laughed. "What'll you give me?"

"Shut up, Sesshomaru! Just give me a ride!" Inuyasha practically yelled. Sesshomaru always had to do this.

"Fine, whatever." Sesshomaru finally gave in, "You can give Kagome her jacket back, she left it in my car." With that Sesshomaru glanced up at Inuyasha waiting for his response.

Inuyasha glared evilly at Sesshomaru. "W-What?!" He shouted. Sesshomaru just smirked. "W-Why was Kagome in y-your car?"

Sesshomaru winced. "You better not be thinking I-" Inuyasha crossed his arms over his chest. "Why not?" He snapped, "You've done it before." Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and walked past him. "Come on." He said, bluntly. Inuyasha followed.

They got in the car, and pulled out of the driveway when Sesshomaru threw Kagome's Jacket to Inuyasha. Inuyasha examined it. It was a light black jacket embedded in Kagome's feminine scent.

"You mean you weren't kidding?!" Inuyasha asked, slightly shocked.

"Why the hell would I joke around about that?" Sesshomaru shot.

"I don't know." Inuyasha shrugged. "So what happened in here?!"

Sesshomaru shot him a threatening glare. "Shut up! Nothing happened!" He growled, "I was giving Sarah and her friends a ride to the mall last night, and Kagome happened to be one of Sarah's friends."

Inuyasha leaned back in his seat. "Better be, cuz if I find out you did anything to her, I'll-"

"Please, spare me the meaningless threats, Inuyasha." Sesshomaru smirked, "Not to mention, I think she likes you more than me." Inuyasha froze.

"W-What are you talking about." He asked, his face turning red, "We're…We're just friends!"

Sesshomaru pulled up in front of the school. "Sure…" He said, sarcastically, "Now get out!" Inuyasha scowled at him, and got out of the car, slamming the door as hard as he could behind him.

When Inuyasha got to his locker, Miroku was waiting. "Hey, Miro." He greeted, as he worked on the lock. "Inuyasha, why do you insist to leave me in suspense?" Miroku asked, with a grin. Inuyasha sighed. "I told you it wasn't a date!"

Miroku gave Inuyasha a little shove, and pointed to Inuyasha's right. Inuyasha looked confuse, but followed where Miroku was pointing. "Who is the girl that Kagome's been parading around with?" Inuyasha shrugged, as he looked in Kagome and Sango's direction.

"I'm shocked that you don't remember, Miro." He teased, "Sango's been going to school with us since the second grade. You used to have a little crush on her." He teased. Miroku's jaw dropped open. "Th-That's Sango!?" He asked.

Inuyasha just threw his backpack over his shoulder, and slammed his locker shut. "You're drooling!" He said, using Miroku's taunt, as he walked off towards the two girls.

Kagome sat talking with her friend in the hallway. "So why are we waiting here, again?" Sango asked, as they stood down the hallway from Inuyasha's locker. Kagome blushed. "Well, period 4 is first, and I was hoping to run into-"

"Hey Kagome!" Inuyasha's voice interrupted.

"Speak of the devil…" Sango said, under her breath. Inuyasha didn't seem to hear.

"Hi, Inuyasha!" Kagome said with a warm smile, "How are you?" Inuyasha handed her the black jacket. "You left this in my brother's car." He said. She took it from his hands. "Oh, thanks!" She gasped. Sango put her hands on her hips. "Who the hell is that?" She suddenly asked.

Kagome and Inuyasha exchanged glances, and looked to see Miroku still standing at Inuyasha's locker, with his jaw dropped. Inuyasha let out a little laugh. "That's Miroku…" He began, "He used to-"

"Stalk me in the second grade!?" Sango finished for him. She gave Miroku one last glance and walked away. "I'm going to class!" She told Kagome over her shoulder. Kagome nodded, and focused her attention on the dog boy in front of her.

"So…" She began, "Period four's first…" He smiled, and took her backpack from her. "Yeah, I can walk you to class and not get detention for once." He joked.

Kagome blushed a little and smiled shyly. He acted kind of like a boyfriend… he carried her backpack, walked her to class… even got detention for her sake. "Now that you mention detention…" She said, emphasizing the word detention, "We have it tonight!"

Inuyasha grinned. "Yeah, and I have it tomorrow night, and the day after!" Kagome gasped. "You can't be serious! I'm so, so sorry!" He motioned for her to forget it. "I'm just kidding." He smiled, as they opened the door to the library, and entered.

She gave him a playful shove. "Inuyasha don't be such a-" "Moron!" A voice interrupted her behind them. They turned to see a really angry Kouga, "What are you doing with my girl?!" Inuyasha's eyes narrowed immediately, and Kagome began to panic.

"Kouga!" She warned, "Don't make me hurt you!" Kouga looked at her with a hurt expression. "But, Love-" He began. "Leave her the hell alone!" Inuyasha cut in, "Don't you realize that she hates you!?" Kouga turned back to Inuyasha and they began growling at each other.

Kagome immediately jumped between them, pushing Inuyasha in the other direction. "Come on, Inuyasha." She urged. "Let's not waist our time!" With that she gave Kouga a disgusted look, and Inuyasha did as she said.

Kagome watched Kouga leave the library, and let out a sigh of relief as they sat at their table. "That was close." Kagome breathed. Inuyasha shrugged, as if it were no big deal. "Don't worry, Kagome, I'll teach that stupid wolf a lesson next time he-" Kagome stopped him by grabbing his collar tightly in her hand.

"Inuyasha!" She said, as if scolding a child, "You do not need to fight for me! As a matter of fact I prefer that you don't!" Inuyasha tried to open his mouth in protest but Kagome beat him to it. "Promise you won't…" She begged.

Inuyasha didn't say anything, and Kagome let go of his collar. "I'm not promising anything…" He said, stubbornly. Kagome rested a hand on his shoulder. "It's sweet of you, and everything…" She said, "but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you got hurt."

Inuyasha's stubborn face became a little softer as he turned to look her in the face. "They you understand how I feel." He said, "I'm not going to let Kouga bother you anymore!" Kagome sighed. "Please, Inuyasha?" She begged. He didn't look away.

"I already told you! I'm not promising anything!" He repeated. "Why?" She asked, frustrated. She tried pulling her hand off his shoulder but he took it in his hand.

"Because he's a wolf demon!" He blurted, "Wolf demons are very possessive! He thinks that you're his woman!" Kagome stared at her hand in his, and felt herself blush, but Inuyasha didn't seem to care at the moment.

"…you realize he could end up by really hurting you?" he said, softly. Kagome let her grayish blue eyes meet his honey ones. "Thank you, Inuyasha." She said, softly giving his hand a small squeeze. He seemed to notice the hand contact, and blushed. "Feh…" He said, pulling his hand away from hers.

She giggled at his sudden embarrassment, and suddenly realized that Miroku was there the whole time on the other side of Inuyasha. "Hello, Miroku." She greeted. Miroku had a sly grin on his face. "Well, hello, Kagome!" He greeted, his grin widening.

"So, Inuyasha…" he started, but Inuyasha gave him a whack to silence him. They were quiet the whole period. Things were really awkward with Miroku there. After the class, Inuyasha walked Kagome to her next class, and hurried to his class before he got another detention.

Awww… Inuyasha pretty much swore to protect Kagome from Kouga this chapter, encase you didn't quite get that. Detention chapter is next so stay tuned my wonderful readers. Oh, and I'm SO SORRY for the long wait! I've been writing a dozen other stories!
