Chapter 1: Spell
A sweet girl with a lot on her mind, but no true words to speak. Quite shy, only giving up a wave or smile to passerbys' in the hallway. Holding a large Math textbook against her chest, she trotted down the hall towards her 3rd period classroom, knowing already how late it had gotten. Her jet black tennis shoes made a squeaking sound as they touched the shiny white flooring, her ears only taking half-notice of the only noise inside the school. 'I hope the bell doesn't ring...' she thought, a small shiver going down her spine.
Not many people liked her here, even though she had been going to Jefferson High School for almost 2 years. She would of thought that everyone would get used to her presence, but apparently not. Especially since all they did was bully and tease her nonstop. It was a daily occurance, but one that annoyed her to no end. It didn't matter how many times she told the teachers, or any of the faculity, of the crude writings on her locker or the spitballs caught in her long dark brown hair. It had occured to her that they really didn't give a shit. As such, neither would she.
Kagome Higurashi knocked lightly on the large wooden door that led into Ms.Rose's classroom. She could hear her loud scratchy voice giving a lecture even through the supposedly soundproof and slightly off-colored wooden door. Ms.Rose paused for a moment, then continued on with her boring speech. The girl in the hallway gave a deep sigh, then turned the doorknob.
Eyes fell upon her with distaste and disgust, as she walked across the green carpet to an empty desk. She slid in and sat quietly, putting her textbook on the flat maroon-colored surface, and looking up to find an angry Math teacher glaring at her.
"Ms.Higurashi, may I ask why you've decided to finally show up to class?" She asked, contempt coating her tone. Flabby arms folded over her medium sized breasts, as she tapped her foot against the carpet.
Kagome swallowed hard, then managed to say in a low voice, "Library. I have a pass."
She grabbed the pass, a filmsy piece of orange paper, out of her flare blue jeans pocket, offering up to the woman. Said teacher only scoffed, and motioned for Kagome to remove the paper from her sight, as she spoke, "I do not care if you have a pass, Higurashi. What I do care about is that you're late for my class, and I hope you'll understand not to do such again, since I'm writing you up."
The young woman grimaced, her hair draping over her face, as she nodded, "Yes, Ms.Rose."
"Good," the teacher concluded, ending the interruption of her lecture, and began to talk about a difficult way to do "algebra". Kagome leaned back in the plastic seagreen chair, her shoulders slumping, as she gave half an ear to the teacher's ramblings. Honey colored eyes closed slowly, a daydream taking form inside her mind. One that consisted of a certain manga character that had taken her fancy, with satiny sliver hair and golden eyes. Doglike apendages settled on top of the boy's head, twitching in cute irritation.
'She's a bitch,' the hanyou growled, eyes now closed in annoyance, arms folded across his chest. Kagome giggled deep inside, as she watched him stick his hand up, showing wicked sharp claws that sparkled in imaginary sunlight. He gave a smirk, opening his eyes back up, and giving her a look over.
'What?' she questioned, staring at him, heart fluttering like the wings of a butterfly. He growled again, and whispered, "Look behind you.'
She flinched when something struck her back, eyes shooting open, reality flying back. Somebody chuckled behind her, which caused a wave of anger to flow over her, as she took a chance by looking back. It was Jimmy, the asshole who always loved to fuck with her, who was chuckling low in his throat, with his carrot-top red hair and pukish green eyes glaring at her. She silently noticed the rubberband around his index finger.
Another unfamilar boy beside him began to laugh, as well, a hand going over his mouth to keep from being too loud. Kagome wished she could growl, right then, and show them how badly she wanted to slice them open, from head to toe. Jimmy gave her a sickening grin, as he whispered, "What?"
She bit the inside of her mouth, as she forced herself not to yell at him, and turned back around to see if the teacher had realized what had happened. She was was still talking, mouth flapping like an ugly fish, and hadn't even taken a glance in her direction. 'Dammit...' she muttered inside her brain, hoping somehow, someway, Inuyasha would appear and just kill them all.

The world turned in fast circles, everything blurring and fading into one another, even though she was seated on the carpet, nonmoving. Jackie gave her a funny expression, when she tapped her on the shoulder, startling her out of the daze. Kagome glared at her friend, a similar expression on her face, "My Kami, don't do that!"
Jackie started to laugh which led to a fit of laughter from both teenagers, as they floated in their high with grins that lit the whole room up in flames. When the highpitched noises finally died down, Kagome had tears running down her flushed cheeks, as she whispered, "I'm gonna die..."
"No, you're not. You're fine!" Jackie said between hiccups that had been caused by the hard laughter, "so, like the music?"
"It's weird!" Kagome confessed, commenting on MSI blaring from the stereo system in the corner. One hand grasped her stomach, as she took in Jackie's position on the floor, which was a lazy sort-of croutch. She gave a cough, and then exclaimed in a raspy voice, "you look like Inuyasha!"
Jackie rolled her eyes, and shook her head, "Dammit Kagome, you're so in love with that guy! He's not even real!"
Now, this made the young woman stop smiling, and bow her head in shame, "Sorry... I just..." She trailed off, finding purple nail polish stains on the carpet to be quite interesting. Jackie sighed, and shrugged, "Listen, Kags, I know how much that dude means to you and junk, but it's kind of creepy when you find a comic book to be a lot more appealing than real life, ya know?"
"Yeah," Kagome offered, in a small voice, and then gave a fake smile to her friend, "hey, I'm hungry. You still got those pocky sticks?"

AJ called her at 1am, her crappy gray cellphone playing the "Halloween" theme, as she reached over her comfy pillows with half her brain awake, and clicked the "talk" button, "Huh?"
"Well, hi to you too, princess. I suggest you take some caffine pills and get up. I'm taking you some place I think you'll like," a gruff voice spoke over the static of the phone.
She yawned, and took note of the time by way of a Snoopy alarm clock on her nightstand, then answered, "I have school tomorrow, AJ, can't this wait?"
"I'll take that as a yes. I'm about to be at your house. Dress warm," then the phoneline clicked off. Kagome threw her phone, and as it landed on the carpet with a soft "thud", she cursed under her breath, "Damn him."

"Tear You Apart" by She Wants Revenge was playing on the car radio, as they drove in the darkness towards an unspecified location. Kagome was dressed in a simple pair of black dress pants and a red fuzzy sweater, her hands in her lap, brown eyes staring out the window at the passing trees and fancy houses. AJ had one hand on the steering wheel and the other held a cigarette, as he took a deep inhale, then took a glance at the solemn teenager, "What's up?"
She arched a trimmed eyebrow, looking over at her buddy, then murmured, "You tell me."
He gave a smile, throwing the almost finished cig butt out the cracked window, then ran a hand threw his shaggy dirty blonde hair, "I guess you're wondering where we're going to at such a late hour, hm?"
A "duh" expression answered his questioning, and he replied, "You remember that girl, Cynthia?"
She nodded, and he continued, "Well, she's having this thing tonight, and I... well, she wanted you to come. It should be interesting."
Kagome rolled her eyes, and shrugged, "Whatever, AJ, but you better make sure I'll be home before my mom wakes up, or I'm in dip shit. And so are you."

Black candles lit up the unfinished basement, set in a crude version of a circle, a pentagram painted with the same color on the concrete in the center. Cynthia greeted them with a smile, then motioned for them to sit outside the circle, then hold hands. Kagome couldn't believe what they were about to do, but she couldn't help the excitement that began to pulse through her veins. All was quiet, as a rumble of thunder in the distance signaled the storm ahead.
"Quiet now," Cynthia insisted, in a low voice, her dark red hair up in braids, blue eyes gleaming with anticipation, "I need complete silence. Now, clear your mind. Nothing should interfere in this, so completely clear your mind of all thoughts, and focus."
Kagome wanted to giggle, but that wasn't really acceptable at a time like this. So, she did as Cynthia asked, and wiped away all the thoughts going through her head, until she was focused only on the red head.
"Close your eyes, and take a deep breath," her voice going down an octave, as she gripped the two's hands in her own tightly, "free your soul, and take all the good energy in the room into yourselves. Now, breathe it out."
Kagome's heart skipped a beat, when Cynthia began to chant a language foreign to her. Her voice seemed to get even lower until it was only a whisper. The flames flickered, as lightning struck outside, the thunder louder this time. AJ's palm began to sweat, his breathing irregular. She noted that her own breathing was heavy.
"Make a wish, Kagome," Cynthia whispered, her hand squeezing the girl's own, "it matters not what you wish, as long as it is pure."
The young woman swallowed, hard, as the thunder boomed and lightning crackled, "I-I wish..."
Cynthia urged on, "It's okay, Kagome. Wish for anything."
Her heart pounded in her ears, sweater beginning to feel too hot, as she licked her suddenly dry lips, whispering, "I wish... for Inuyasha to be mine."
Out of nowhere, AJ and Cynthia began to laugh, a horrid and cruel laughter filling the once silent room. Her eyes shot open, and she look at them both in horror. AJ was the first to recover from the sudden bout of laughter, and spoke, "I'm sorry, Kags, but... you're wishing for Inuyasha to be real?"
Kagome looked down at her lap, shame and embarrasment flushing her cheeks a hot pink, as she whispered, "She said... anything."
Cynthia looked at the now shy girl, a gleam still shining in her midnight blue eyes, as she whispered to her, "Kagome, I didn't mean for you to wish for some manga character to exist. That's not exactly pure. Besides, that series is so... well, gay."
Kagome chewed at her bottom lip, nervously, and then stood up in a fluid movement, stomping up the basement stairs, and slamming the door behind her.
