Prologue

It was a cool and peaceful spring night. The stars shown brightly in the cloudless sky, and the new crescent moon gave off a serene glow. The grass blew lightly in the warm breeze, as did the leaves of a giant tree that over looked a sleeping village. All in this small village slept peacefully except the priestess and her husband. And so they did until the moon reached it's peak in the sky, and with it a loud screeching sound as well.
"WHAAAAAAA… WHAAAAAAA…"
With this sound the entire village was awoken. The people of the village all went to the hut from which the sound came. They all had guessed what had happened… the priestess had finally given birth to the child, which was predicted to be the awaited one.
The village healer went to the hut and pushed her way through the crowd. She slowly pushed open he wooden door as she motioned for the people behind her not to enter. She closed the door behind her and grabbed the candle that was sitting on a small cherry wood table. She slowly approached the figures in the corner of the hut.
The candlelight flickered across a young woman with straight dark hair and gray-blue eyes that held a mixture of emotions. The sweat on her forehead reflected in the light cast by a candle. The healer's, Azumi's, gaze first fell upon this woman. Then her gaze shifted to the man who was crouching beside her. His dark bangs hung over his eyes, and she could see the shadows on his face, but not as well as she could see his smile. He was holding a small bundle of blankets, which he was gazing down on, as he caressed it gently.
She started to walk towards them, but than as she moved the candles light flicked to a pile of blankets in the women's arms. She turned her gazed back to the man. He too held a bundle of blankets. Azumi smiled. It made since, the prophecy spoke of two.
She continued to walk towards the man and woman. She kneeled down beside the woman and began to speak softly. "What…" but she was cut off by the young woman, who was now nursing the infant in her arms.
"It's good to see you came, Azumi-chan." She said as she smiled up at the young healer.
"Of course, I would never miss the birth of my best friend's baby, or I guess it's really babies, ne Megumi-chan." She responded as she smiled down at Megumi. Megumi smiled back at her as she turned to her baby, who was now asleep. She gently lay the infant down in her lap, and turned to her husband who handed the other child to her.
Azumi glanced down at them. The infants were wrapped in silk blankets, one's was red, and was embroidered with sakura blossom petals, the other's was green, and embroidered with nadeshiko blossoms. They had been cleaned already, no doubt by their father. She gazed at their identical faces, small and peaceful. There was short black hair on their heads, that they had been born with, and one was kicking in it's sleep.
Azumi glanced at Megumi and smiled, as she asked, "What will their names be?" she asked as she glanced back down at the babies. Megumi glanced down at her sleeping children too, and said, "Their names will be Kikyou… Kikyou and Kagome."
"Kikyou and Kagome" Azumi repeated. "Kagome and Kikyou."

Konnichiwa Minna-san,
I know this chapter is short, but it's just the prologue. If you like it and I get a lot of reviews for it than I'll continue. I hope that people do like it. It'll get much more interesting later, because the first chapter will take place seventeen years later. And a few more characters will be introduced. But here's the question, who or what is this awaited one, and what does it have to do with this prophecy? Until next time.
