Chapter 1
I was running through the forest with tears streaking down my cheeks. All I saw was the trees a head of me as I ran by. I recently discovered that I was youkai, an Inu youkai of the Black Inu Clan. I have been disguised as a mortal girl for 17 years. My memories have been erased and were filled with the past 17 years of my life with a mortal family that I love dearly. My heart burned with fire as I ran, my chest enclosing around it. My name is Takemoto Karas but I go by my mortal name, Higurashi Kagome. The sight and smell shocked me when my heart broke. I didn’t know what else to do but run.
Flashback
Kagome was at the stream by Sango, cleaning her sword as Sango repaired her Hiraikotsu. Inuyasha has built a den big enough for all four of them. ‘Inuyasha is all to himself now that Miroku had to go to the village for business. I should go and give him some company.’ She thought.
“I’ll see you back at the den.” She said to Sango. Sango nodded in reply as Kagome walked past the trees and made her way to the den. She was half way there when her nose wrinkled up as she smelled an odd smell. She didn’t recognize it, so she ignored it and continued on to her destination. When she was almost to the entrance, she heard a long moan. Kagome decided to investigate, so she started to hide her scent. The den was in sight and with each step, the smell grew stronger. Kagome crept toward the entrance, staying low to the ground so she wouldn’t be discovered. There was a long moan followed by unison of two moans, both of them being entirely different than the first one. She crept inside and descended down the hand made dirt stairs that lead underground. There was a glowing light that flickered with each step she took. When she got low enough, she saw a skinny archway. Kagome quickly stood next to the archway so she was hidden from the people inside.
She stuck her head out far enough to see who was in the room. She watched the three people make contact with one another. She could not see who the man was but knew the women as to be Kikyo, a priestess, and a young maid named Ayumi. Kagome’s eyes widened as she watched the mess of brown and black hair reveal a lock of silver. At first she thought it could have been another youkai but then she saw the sight of a very familiar face that belonged to a hanyou named Inuyasha. Kagome was now standing out in the open, letting herself be seen. She stood there in the archway, watching Inuyasha whose eyes still closed and who hadn’t noticed her standing there. All three of them screamed with pleasure in unison as Kagome flinched at the noise, then closed her eyes and let tear after tear escape from them. The shrill screams had stopped and were followed by heavy breathing. Kikyo and Ayumi got off of Inuyasha as all three of them dressed, not noticing Kagome at all. When they were finished dressing, Inuyasha finally noticed Kagome standing in the archway. Kagome looked up at Inuyasha staring straight into his amber eyes. They stood there for a moment while the women left when Inuyasha started to speak.
“Kagome…” Kagome started to shake her head in the form of a ‘no’ telling him that he needed not to explain.
“I’m tired of waiting for you Inuyasha. I give up. You will always be the same and will never change. I don’t ever what to see you again. I hope I have made myself clear. This is where I leave and until we meet again.” Kagome nodded her head and dashed off.
End of Flashback
Kagome was sitting by the stream cleaning her face. She paused for a moment, looking at the water and admiring her new form. She still had her jet black hair but now it was longer. Her cheeks had red stripes as well as her wrists and ankles. She had a black sun on her forehead that matched her blue-gray eyes. She thought about the fangs in her mouth and the sharpness of her nails. ‘I’m done with that pathetic hanyou.’ She thought. Her hand went to the almost complete Shikon no Tama and held on to it. Kagome stood and started towards to world that she needed to see. She had wanted to explore it for so long but with that hanyou always in her way, kept her in the Southern lands. The first thing that was on her mind was to get to the Eastern Palace and see her biological mother and father. Kagome continued toward the destination that was set on her mind until she smelled a familiar smell. She stopped and looked down. She realized that it was the flowers that her mom had in her garden. The smell reminded her of home so she took a flower from it and put it in her hair. With that, she continued on like that until it was dusk and had stopped to make camp.
‘I may not be as much of a hunter as Inuyasha, but I can still hunt.’ She said positively in her mind. She went down to the nearest stream and caught two fish. Kagome took them back to camp and started to roast them over the fire on a stick. She gorged the food down like she hadn’t eaten in a couple of days. She then picked a branch on a tree and slept there.
Kagome opened her eyes as the sun started to peek over the trees. She leaped down and started to walk when she felt a heavy tug on her from behind. She looked back and was amazed at what she saw. A big, black, fuzzy tail was on the ground leading to her butt. She picked it up and heaved it over her shoulder.
‘Okay, now I have a tail. What else is going to happen to me?’ she thought as she walked. Kagome managed to reach the Eastern boarders. As she wandered through the Eastern lands, she started to worry about her real mother and father. Inuyasha had told her after she had transformed. He had told her all of his knowledge about the Black Inu Clan and their missing daughter.
‘I’ve never really met them. I don’t even know who they are. Will they accept me? Could I be the wrong daughter?’ Kagome kept asking her self questions that she couldn’t answer. By the time she had finished her list of questions, she was at a beach. The wind was carrying the mist of the sea and sakura blossoms to go with it. Kagome had closed her eyes to soak in the sweet scent of the air as it chased her worries away. She looked over to her right and found a large palace sitting next to a cliff. Kagome turned in the direction of the palace and walked towards it. It was dusk when she finally reached the gates. She saw two Inu youkai guards standing there with bows and arrows. She walked up to them gracefully as they immediately opened the gates.
“Welcome home, Princess.” One of the guards said. Both of them bowed as she walked by. She heard the clanking of iron as she walked through the doors. Inside she saw maids cleaning the walls and floors. One of them walked by and looked at Kagome but suddenly stopped. She opened her mouth then quickly bowed.
“Your highness! Welcome back!” she greeted. “Follow me. I will take you to the Lord and Lady of the Eastern Lands. Would you like one of us to prepare your room?” she asked before setting off.
“Yes please. I plan to stay here for a while.” Kagome responded. The woman nodded and turned to a group of maids who quickly rushed off after being set with their tasks. Kagome followed the maid through a set of double doors and into a library. The maid then opened a door leading to a study where Kagome saw two Black haired Inu youkai. Kagome had stopped when the maid had signaled her to do so and watched her bend down, whispering into the male youkai’s ear. She watched the head suddenly snap up and turned to look at her. Kagome had finally seen her biological father. He stood up and walked to Kagome. She noticed that his eyes were a stunning gold and had red stripes on his cheeks. Her eyes then fell upon the black sun on his forehead. He opened his arms as she ran into them for an embracing hug. Kagome felt his fingers run through her hair. She pulled away and then noticed her biological mother standing there with her face being shocked. She saw a tear escape from her eyes as she walked towards her. Kagome saw that she had shocking blue-gray eyes with pink stripes on her cheeks. Her mother as well bore the mark of a black sun on her forehead. Her mother embraced her and held her while kissing her hair.
“Our daughter is finally home.” She heard her father say as she pulled away from her mother’s death grip. Kagome felt a tear escape and run frantically down her face, her smile widening as she looked at her birth parents.
“Mother, father, I have questions that need answering.” Her father nodded and showed her a seat so they could talk. “Father, what happened? I don’t know who I am.” Kagome’s father sighed and began the story. “You are Takemoto Karas, Princess of the Black Inu Clan and Priestess, Guardian of the Shikon no Tama. Your mother and I loved you dearly but we had to send you away because of a battle that was forged. Every hanyou, youkai, and man in the Eastern lands was after the jewel with greedy looks in their eyes. We had to hide you so we disguised you as a human and sent you to the Southern Lands. When the battle was over, we came looking for you but discovered that you were missing.” Her father explained.
“They told us that a young priestess took you into a forest and sucked out half of your soul. We assumed that you were dead. We were about to leave when we saw you at the edge of the forest leaning on a well. Your father tried to run after you but he was too late. You fell into the well and we only saw a bright blue-ish – purple shimmer. We searched the whole bottom of the well but never found you. We have missed you so much.” Kagome’s mother stepped in.
“I plan to stay here a while and train. My miko powers are a little rusty. I haven’t used them for quite some time now.” Kagome explained. Her mother had a happy face on.
“We shall have a magnificent feast for the celebration of your arrival. The maids will show you your wardrobe.” Her mother explained. Kagome hugged them once more and left with a maid. Kagome had followed her to a bedroom with a very large bed and closet. She looked to her left and saw a door wide open. She walked towards in and found out that it was a large bathroom made from marble. She looked towards the tub and found that it was already full of hot water. Kagome slipped in and started to relax.
‘I’m finally where I’m supposed to be, home.’ She thought as she felt her eyes get heavy. Kagome couldn’t help but fall asleep.
“She’s finally home. Our baby is finally home. Ayu, you look so worried. I thought you would be happy about the sudden surprise.” Ayu looked at his wife.
“I’m overjoyed that she has returned. I’m worried that she will start asking about the battle. I do not wish to remember it and then talk about her fighting side by side with her former love. I’m just afraid that she will ask too much that it will put her back into danger, Yuka.” Yuka raised her hand to her mouth but then just smiled at him.
“My husband being an over protective father. Don’t worry, Koabitou, when she asks you, you know she will be ready.” She explained to her husband.
“I’ll try, Koi.” Ayu said.
“How could you do such a thing!!!?” Sango punched Inuyasha again. He landed on his hands and knees.
“That is my sister you hurt!!” she yelled as she kicked him. “I can’t believe you did that to her!” Sango punched his jaw.
“I always thought you had a place for her in your heart. I thought you were a very kind person deep down but I was proven wrong!” she kicked his stomach.
“I ought to chop off your balls and feed them to the birds!!!” she screamed.
“Sango….wait…” he managed to choke out.
“No! I don’t want to hear it! To even say my name is a disgrace and insult to me. If I ever hear you say my name again or even lay one finger on her hair, I swear on Kami’s name that I will come after you.” She picked up Inuyasha and set him on his feet then kicked him with all of her power into his groins. “I don’t ever want to see you around Kagome ever again, ya got that!!” Inuyasha managed to nod his head in reply. Inuyasha was on the ground, his hands and knees digging into the dirt because of severe pain.
“Yuka!! We must finish the guest list. Make sure you invite the Inu youkai from the White Inu Clan. They are our top priority.” Ayu told her.
“Do not worry my love. I have already sent out a messenger to give out the invitations.” Yuka had calmed her husband.
“Yura! Please check on Karas. Make sure she is out of the bath and ready for tonight’s feast.” Yura bowed and quickly bustled out the door. She had quickly opened the door to Kagome’s bathroom and saw that she was asleep. Yura shook her head and lightly shook Kagome by her shoulder.
“You’re Highness? Please wake up. The Lady has instructed me to make sure you are ready for tonight’s feast. I have a lovely kimono already picked out for you. It is lying on your bed. I’m sure you would be pleased about it.” Yura bowed and turned away to leave Kagome. Kagome squinted her eyes at the light shining on her face. She looked at her fingers and found them to be extremely wrinkly. She grabbed a towel and dried off. She then walked out to her bed and was shocked at how beautiful the kimono looked. It was black with a golden trim and golden sakura blossoms. On the chest part of the kimono held her family crest which was a golden sun. After she had put on the kimono, she went to style her hair. She put it in a ponytail and managed to leave a curly lock of hair on both sides of her head. She had on eye-shadow that was the color of gold and had matched fairly well with her wardrobe. Kagome then let her tail wrap around her shoulder and waist. She took one last look in the mirror then headed downstairs to meet her mother and father. Kagome saw her father at the door greeting guests along with her mother. She gracefully walked up to them to make herself be noticed.
“Hello mother, hello father. May I stand here and help you greet guests?” Kagome asked.
“Why of course, Karas. Even our guests would be most pleased to see that you have returned safely.” Ayu said to his daughter.
“Father, it would be most appreciated if you would call me by my mortal name, Higurashi Kagome.” She confronted him. He stared at her but then smiled.
“As you wish, Kagome. Let it be known that I love you dearly, my daughter.” Lord Ayu said.
“And I love you, father.” Kagome said when she hugged him.
“Come lets greet the guests before your mother throws a fit.” Both of them giggled, and then turned to the people who were piling in one after another. She saw the great lords of the Southern and Northern arrive with their wives. The Lord of the Northern Lands was a kitsune. She saw that he had red hair and green eyes when she had shaken his hand to greet him.
“Kagome?” he said to her. “Has it really been this long? You probably don’t recognize me now that I’m fully grown.” The Kitsune Lord had said. Knowing the familiar voice she was quite surprised.
“Shippo? Is that you? Look at you! You’ve grown so much. How have you been?” Kagome said with a smiling face.
“Every since I got to the Northern Palace, I realized that I was royalty, a cousin of the old Northern Lord. He never married, therefore leaving me the throne. After a year, I had met my wife.” He said as he pointed to his wife.
“Well, congratulations. I hope you find the evening to your liking. Until we meet again this evening, Farewell.” Kagome said as she turned to the Southern Lord and his wife. After a few dozen people had entered her home, she saw a silver haired demon lord. Her eyes widened when a flashback imaged flashed in her mind. He was in a forest, sword drawn with other youkai, hanyou and men behind him. She snapped back to reality when he came up to her. She watched his eyes widen with amazement. Lord Ayu saw the two and quickly caught the attention of the demon lord. Kagome’s father pushed him away to be with the other guests, and then went back to his original state. Kagome then saw a very familiar face as the woman ran towards her with a familiar man.
“Kagome!! I’ve missed you so much! It’s been a week! When we got the invitation, we had to come.” Sango said excitedly, and then frowned. “That Inuyasha. I can’t believe he did that to you! Don’t worry. When I found out, I beat the holy living shit out of him.” Kagome had to giggle.
“You should find yourself at home. Go, I must greet my honored guests.” She watched the pair walk off to the tables. She turned around just in time to see a silver haired hanyou walk into the room.
‘I guess he had received an invitation.’ She thought as he walked up to her.
“Kagome…..you look…”
“Save it. I thought I had told you I never wanted to see you again.” Kagome interrupted.
“Look, for one thing, we shouldn’t talk about this right now. This is a private matter. It must be discussed elsewhere.” He told her.
“No! This is a matter we can discuss right now! Let everyone know that Lord Inuyasha, ruler of the Western Lands, is infatuated with whores down by the local whore house! There is nothing to be discussed when the truth has already been said!!” Kagome yelled. Everyone stopped immediately to look at the two. Some were shocked, others still calm. “Now, I hope this evening’s feast will be satisfying. Enjoy.” She said as she walked to her room. Kagome sat on her bed and started to cry. She heard a door open as she watched her mother walk in.
“Honey, what’s wrong?” she said as she held Kagome close to her.
”Oh mom, I traveled with Inuyasha for three years now and I think I fell in love with him.” Kagome sobbed.
“Kagome, that’s wonderful. Why do you think that falling in love is a bad thing?” her mother asked.
“It’s not that. I found him rutting Kikyo and Ayumi!!” she told her with more sobs.
“Does Inuyasha know that?” Kagome tilted her head, not knowing what she meant.
“Does he know what?” she asked.
“Does he know that you love him?” Yuka asked. Kagome thought about it and realized that she never told him.
“No.”
“Well, there’s your problem. It’s not his fault he rutted those women. You never claimed him, so, that’s why he was with them. At the time he was not yours. Now he doesn’t know why you’re so angry at him. I’m sure if he knew, he would never do such a thing.” Yuka explained. “Now let’s go and have so dinner. You must be famished.” Kagome and her mother walked out the room and downstairs to the tables.
