Rin sat by the little stream, listening to the soft flow of the water. She glanced over her shoulder towards the looming castle behind her. She shook her head. Sixteen and he still thinks he needs someone to watch me. She glanced back again and saw the little toad `hiding' behind a great tree. She stood and dusted off the kimono she borrowed from Sesshomaru. She had grown rapidly and had long since outgrown the little outfit she used to wear, so Sesshomaru gave her some of his until he could have some made for her. She didn't mind wearing his clothes, in fact she rather enjoyed it, and they gave so much room for free movement unlike the formal kimonos she was sure he'd have her wear. She sniffed at the uncomfortable image in her mind. "You can go back Jaken, I'm done out here, no need to baby sit me anymore." She said as she walked past the hiding youkai. She snickered to herself at the dumb founded look on his face at being detected.

"You detected me, very smart and well trained." He chirped behind her. "Where are you going?" he said as she went down a corridor opposite to her chambers.

"To find Sesshomaru-sama." She said matter-of-factly. The toad youkai's eyes widened and he dashed in front of her to block her path.

"Lord Sesshomaru is busy. And you know better than to go into his study unless he summons you."

"Well, I need to talk to him. And besides, he's never gotten too mad before." She said as she approached a pair of large wooden doors. She knocked once and then went inside knowing full well that he was alone. She bowed low to him before looking up at him with a cheery smile.

"Rin what are you doing in my study when I have not sent for you?" he said with and icy tone. She smiled shyly and walked over to sit in the chair next to him.

"Well, my birthday is coming up and I have some question to ask of you." He quirked an eyebrow but listened patiently. "Well, I'm going to be sixteen and I want to know why it is you still feel I need a baby sitter to watch over me. I'm grown up enough to look after myself." He turned his head away for a second to glance back at the door, but then resettled his icy gaze on her.

"Because you do not know how to defend yourself from a powerful youkai and we can't have you getting hurt or killed before my big announcement concerning you on your birthday." She nodded her understanding, knowing full well what his announcement was about. He's looking for a mate for me and he's going to try to make me meet him on my birthday…hmph well he's dead wrong. Her face twisted at her thoughts and she glared with out even realizing. "Is there some thing wrong Rin? You have a very odd look on your face" he stated with humor in his voice. Still stubborn as ever, you shouldn't frown, the look doesn't suit you Rin. He thought quickly. She nodded once and stood to leave, he grabbed her wrist stopping her dead. She looked down at his hand and back up at his emotionless expression, suddenly she felt as though a wave of heat surged from his hand. She felt the heat crawl up her arm to her cheeks as they painted themselves a light red. She looked at him with a look on her face that she hoped was questioning. He let go of her wrist and looked at the materials he had in his lap before telling her the comment he stopped her for. "Don't go past the gates of the castle without an escort." He finished by mumbling something under his breath that she didn't quite catch. She nodded and left. She walked down the quiet corridors trapped in her own thoughts. I wonder who he's going to try to get for my mate. She thought sadly,I don't want to have to leave here, my home, my friends…and him. She shook her head silently as if to shake her thoughts away.

"He'd never feel the same." She said sadly. She went to her room and lay down on her bed for the rest of the afternoon. Meanwhile, Sesshomaru searched the papers he held in his hand for two mates, one for Rin and…one for himself. He shook his head and placed the papers aside. She wasn't a child any more, she had been a very sweet child and when her preteen years had come she had changed drastically, she became rebellious, they would always get into fights about this or that, he knew that if he had brought up the situation then, it would have been like declaring a war with her. Once she hit fifteen things had changed again, she became more docile, but she still held her sparks of rebelliousness. She never really listened to many of the rules of the house, not that he minded, it wasn't like she was breaking any serious rules, only minor ones that he let slide. Truth be told, he liked it when she showed her rebellious side. He didn't know why he just did. She had grown physically as well as mentally, the way his close had hung on her body had proved that long ago. Definitely not a child anymore. He shook his head, startled at his new train of thought. Where did that come from? He searched his mind for the answer and found none. He shook his head and sighed, once again picking up his papers to continue his search. He worked late into the evening until a soft knock brought his attention to the time. He stood and opened the door to see Rin standing at the door, head bowed respectfully. She brought her eyes to meet his in a timid slow movement.Why is she acting like this, she seems to be afraid of me. He thought strangely.

"Sesshomaru-sama, am I disturbing you at the moment?" she asked in a small voice. A look of confusion past his face, but he replaced it quickly with his usual emotionless expression. He shook his head and opened the door to let her in the room. She walked by shyly and took a seat on the rug. She hasn't sat on the floor since she was a child, why is she doing it again? "Sesshomaru-sama, may I ask you a question?" he nodded, "It involves two people, my `friend' and this man." He listened patiently for her to continue. "My friend, likes this man she knows, but she's not sure how he feels towards her. He treats her the same as he always does, he's not cruel to her but he's definitely not especially nice. He's never nice to anyone really, he remains indifferent." He could clearly see she was talking about herself. She likes someone, his heart fell.My Rin has feelings for another man? How can this be? He questioned himself silently. She began talking again and he tuned into listen. "But you see, every time he touches her, even if it's just her wrist or something, he lets down his barriers for just a split second. But after he realizes, he puts them back up and it hurts her a lot, that he can't come out and say how he feels or even show her." She stopped and looked down at her hands in her lap, trying to hide her obvious blush. Some one has laid a hand on my Rin? My Rin…she's not my Rin anymore, she never was. And she never shall be, she has feelings for someone else. "What should she do? To get him to tell or show her how he feels?" she looked up at him with curious eyes. He looked down at his hand resting on the arm rest, and suddenly realized he had been clutching at the seat. He released his death grip on the chair and tried to come up with a suitable answer.

"I wouldn't know. Rin, why come to me with a question such as this? Why don't you ask another of your friends, they might have a suitable answer." With that he turned and focused intensely on the materials before him. She brought her eyes down to the floor quickly before standing and bowing respectfully then walking quickly out the door. Sesshomaru sighed to himself, stood and walked to the door to shut it. His sensitive ears twitched at the sound that came to them from just down the hall. Crying, who could be crying…Rin. With the dawn of realization he froze in shock, and then all but ran to go find her.

"Stupid, stupid Rin! How could you even think up such a stupid plan, like he would care about what was happening with you or your imaginary friend…when it came to a man. He's looking for a mate for you so he can get rid of you! Why wouldn't he! You've done nothing but stay by him since he saved you. He's probably looking for some peace and quiet, not to mention a mate for himself. If only…" she paused to breath and cast a hurt look to the grassy lawn of the garden, "If only he knew how much I care. It hurts to think that once he finds this mystery person, I'll probably never see him again. I don't want to leave, I mean I always thought this day would come, but I never actually thought, never imagined my life away from his side." She broke down in tears and collapsed in the grass. Her hands went to her face to hide her tear soaked eyes. Sesshomaru stood frozen against the wall just around the corner from where Rin was kneeling, he was shocked at her unexpected confession. She cares for me? She actually cares for me?-Wait she thinks I want to get rid of her? How could she ever think that? He asked frantically inside his head. Because you're always so cold to her and you never said anything. Ranted a little voice inside his head. He pushed it aside and focused on the sob-filled confession spilling forth from his Rin. "I don't want to leave here, my home, my friends, I don't want to leave…him." He closed his eyes and the corners of his mouth threatened to curve up as he turned and walked away to his study, a new solution formed in his mind. Come your birthday, Rin, I will kill two birds with one stone. I will marry you off and get myself a mate. He smiled and put aside the materials he had been looking at.

Rin wiped her eyes and sat up to look at the bright blue sky. "I wont let him. I wont let him get rid of me by throwing me at some hungry male. I'll leave before he does that. Yeah, I'll leave tonight after dinner, that will be the only time I can, and he wont notice `til I'm good and gone." She smiled to her self a desperate smile. She walked to her room to clean up before dinner. Little did she know someone had heard her entire conversation. Aevin stared in shock after the young human girl. She's nuts!!! Can't she see how Lord Sesshomaru feels about her, sure he doesn't show it much, but she's the only human girl here, any other human he would have let die, but he saved her. That's got to mean something. He took off to go report to his lord the new turn of events.

"Lord Sesshomaru, I need to have council with you!"

"Go away Aevin. I'm not in the mood." Sesshomaru snarled at the poor boy.

"But Lord, it's about the human girl…"

"What about her!" He cut him off. He had an accusing tone, Sesshomaru had had to protect Rin from the guards and the talk that had drifted his way many times before. He was fully prepared to kill this youkai if he said anything against his Rin.

"She plans to run away milord. I heard her say it myself in the garden, I was walking by when I heard her crying and she started talking about how she wouldn't let you push her off on someone else and that she was leaving tonight after dinner." Run away, tonight, and after dinner. Were the only part of the conversation Sesshomaru caught. He was too worried about stopping her to actually pay attention.

"Thank you Aevin. I will look into the matter." He said as he dismissed the dumbstruck lad. Aevin walked away to go finish the task he was trying to accomplish earlier.

Rin packed a small bag and shoved it in a small corner hidden away in her room. She was actually going to do this.

"Well, it's for the best." She amended as she stood to go to dinner. When she walked into the dinning hall she saw Sesshomaru already seated, he wore his normal clothes, minus the armor and swords. He actually looks really handsome when he's not ready to kill someone. She shook her head and sat down next to him. She stared at her plate the entire time, knowing that if she made eye contact that she would either, not be able to force herself to go or she would end up telling him everything she planned. Dinner seemed to last an eternity, and finally it was over and the sun had set. Rin changed her clothes from the formal-type kimono to robes that looked just like the others but in a more casual style. They we're dark blue, and looked like a skirt but were actually pants and a loose fitting top, tied with a white sash. She threw her long dark hair into a high ponytail so she could see to get over the castle walls. She grabbed her bag out of the corner and opened her window. Luckily her room was on the ground floor, she jumped out her window and landed with a soft thud on the grass. She climbed over the castle walls with ease and got down just as quickly and easily as she had up, but her robe had come loose and fallen to rest just below the curve of her shoulder. She tossed her bag aside for a second and then looked back for a last glance. She bent and grabbed her bag and turned to walk away when she ran smack into something hard, and tall. Kami, please don't be who I think it is. She prayed and reluctantly looked up into his face. Rin looked up to see the emotionless face of Sesshomaru. Even though his expression was the same as always she swore his features were tinged with anger. She tugged to get him to let go of her, but he wouldn't. He brought his mouth low to her ear and his warm breath tickled her ear sending shivers up her spine.

"Where do you think you are going Rin?" He asked in an emotionless voice. She shrugged her shoulders and sagged against his chest giving up the hopeless attempts to free herself. "I had hoped to save this for the day after tomorrow but, oh well." He said more to himself than to her, and with that he lowered his lips to hers in a soft but powerful kiss. Rin slung her arms around his neck when she felt his tongue trace the seem of her lips. She gladly obliged him and opened her mouth letting him deepen the kiss. She twined her fingers in his thick silver mane, her knapsack fell from her shoulder with a light thud to the ground. He finally pulled away to rest his head on her shoulder by her ear. "Rin, I thought I told you not to go past the castle gates." he said in mock anger.

"I'm sorry Sesshomaru-sama. You're going have to find a way to punish me for misbehaving." She gasped as she felt his fang scrape lightly over her shoulder followed by his tongue. He trailed soft kisses from the curve of her shoulder to her mouth and then reclaimed her lips in a scorching kiss.

"And how do you propose I go about this?" he said while nibbling on her collar bone.

"Hm, I, don't know" she gasped as she felt him suckle at her ear lobe. She titled his face up to her and their lips met. She blushed faintly, not really knowing if it was from the feelings Sesshomaru's ministrations were eliciting in her or because of her new found boldness. His hands came up to cup her cheeks. He jerked away suddenly and started walking for the castle gates leaving a very confused Rin standing behind him. Did I do some thing wrong? Why is he just leaving? She searched her mind frantically for her answer but found none. She replayed the events in her mind up until the moment she fell asleep.

Rin woke with a start as sunlight streamed into her room from her open window. She stood and stretched as she walked and closed her open window. "did last night really happen?" she questioned herself, tears welled up in her eyes and she struggled to blink them back. She brushed her hair with the dainty combs she had gotten as a present from her friend for her birthday. She smiled and placed it down on the table. She straightened her robe and noticed the slight pink lines trailing from her shoulder to her neck in the mirror. She gasped slightly and smiled to herself. He'd be embarrassed if I showed him these. She said with a little laugh. She shook her head and started out for the dinning room. She wandered the halls aimlessly trying to engrain every detail about this place, her home, before she had to leave it. She gave a downcast look to the ground. He's actually going to make me leave. She perked up her face as she spotted a group of maids walking down the halls laughing and gossiping among themselves. She smiled at the young girl who had run up to her. "Vani, what is all the chatter about?"

"Congratulations Rin! You are such a lucky girl to get him! Every maid here has been trying for his attention!" she smiled a huge smile at Rin.

"What are you talking about? Attention from whom?" She looked puzzled. "I haven't gotten anyone's attention." Her shoulder tingled lightly where her hidden marks lay.

"Ohh and so modest. You can't tell us you don't know already." Rin's puzzled gaze grew even more so puzzled. "she doesn't know girls. She actually doesn't know!" they squealed with delight.

"I don't know what?" they shook their heads in unison.

"You'll just have to wait `til your celebration to find out who has been chosen as your mate." Rin's eyes flew to the ground in utter disappointment. She nodded and continued toward the dinning hall. Once there she pushed the doors open gently and peered inside. Sesshomaru sat at the head of the table, but he wasn't alone. No, he had an ugly youkai sitting to his left and was discussing something. She turned to leave them in peace when she heard Sesshomaru call to her.

"Rin, come. Eat." He motioned for her to sit across from the ugly demon that was now making eyes at her. She shuddered and horror filled over her features at her next thought. Could this ugly thing be the mate Lord Sesshomaru has chosen for me? If it is Iwill finish what was stopped last night. I will leave without a second glance back. She stripped her face clear of any emotions as she approached the two. She bowed respectfully to both, each in turn, and then sat down. She ate lightly trying to make it seem as if she wasn't listening to their conversation. They were discussing land. And it seemed to be like an exchange for something, Rin realized only too late what was being exchanged. HER. She tried to swallow the food before her, but it had lost its appealing taste. Not being able to stand the conversation, she stood bowed again to the two gentlemen and left. She shuddered at the thought of having to live with that creature. Shock flooded her system at a realization. Being a mate means I have to bear children, I have to bed with that horrible thing and bring its heirs to life. She shuddered and struggled to keep her food in her stomach. Never, he'll have to kill me before he beds me! She screamed to herself in her head. Suddenly a plan struck her. No honorable man wouldwed a woman who has let herself be touched by another. She smiled evilly to herself. She knew exactly what she had to do, but would she actually be able to do it was the question. The day dragged on slowly, she felt night would never come. Finally it was dinner time, she crept to the dining hall praying the other youkai wasn't there, he wasn't much to Rin's relief. She sighed as she settled comfortably on to her cushion and waited for the others. They followed into the room quietly soon after she had settled. She looked down at her plate or up at the ceiling, anywhere but to Sesshomaru's eyes. She did it knowing he was seeking eye contact, she thought she even heard him growl low in his throat. She giggled lightly to herself, her plan was working. Finally as dinner was winding down she sought out his eyes and found them staring intently at her. She looked down shyly for only a second but brought her eyes to hold his gaze. She stood up from her place and bowed respectfully to the toad like demon in front of her and turned to leave, deliberately forgetting Sesshomaru. His eyes narrowed on her back as she walked away and out of the room. What is she thinking? She dares to show no respect to me! Who does she think she is? He stood swiftly and left the poor Jaken sitting by himself as he went to go follow her. He came to her door and without even knocking walked straight in. What he saw made him stop dead in his tracks. Rin stood at her window, her back facing him, in a light mid thigh yukata, looking out over the horizon. The soft moon light made the yukata seem almost transparent. It flowed through her long dark tresses and outlined her curves with such accuracy it made his mouth water. She turned her head slightly and glanced at him out of the corner of her eye.

"I've been waiting." She said seductively. He had almost forgotten his anger and why he had come here in the first place. Almost.

"Why do you show me such disrespect?" he growled at her. She turned and faced him giving him a full view of her luscious body.

"The only way I could get you here. And look, it worked." She said as she strode over to stand mere inches away from him. She could feel the heat radiating off of his body. "Punish me if you don't like it." She smirked a seductive smirk and stood on tip toes to capture his lips in a powerful lust filled kiss. Sesshomaru's self control slipped down several notches, almost to the point of breaking. He had to physically strain not to glide his hands around her and take what she offered. The little seductive moans she was crying out didn't help either. He ordered his hands to move. He placed them on her shoulders and pushed back a bit roughly.

"Rin…" he said in a warning tone. She looked up at him with lazily lidded eyes, her small seductive smile implanted there. He lost all words when he looked in her eyes. She brought her mouth up to his ear to whisper to him.

"You know…" she paused to observe the small shiver that traveled his body. " you're quite breath taking when you're angry." She finished by nibbling lightly on his earlobe, reveling in the way his breathing tickled lightly on her neck. She was taken completely by surprise when Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a delicate kiss to the base of her throat. What am I doing have I lost my mind?? He railed ay himself silently. I can't…I must stop this. He tried so hard to get his body and heart to comply with his mind but to no avail. He lost almost all control when she plowed her nimble fingers into his soft hair and claimed his mouth in a kiss. He growled lightly in frustration and pushed her away from him. He started to walk away towards her door when he caught her whispers. "I'll never bed with him. He'll have to kill me first." She whispered to herself, knowing he heard her as well. She turned with a shiver towards the open window. He turned lightly. WHO? Who does she think to bed? He growled thinking about their earlier conversation. She moved her head as if acknowledging he was still there, but didn't turn around. He walked over to her and talked through gritted teeth.

"Whom do you speak of?" she lowered her head more than it was. He grabbed her by the shoulders and shook her slightly, forcing her to look at him. "Who?" she bit her bottom lip as tears welled up in her eyes just thinking about the answer.

"The demon who is to become my…mate tomorrow." She said the word mate as if it was something vile in her mouth. His mouth dropped open slightly in shock. She doesn't know… He loosened his grip on her shoulders and struggled to be gentle about what he was planning. I hope I know her as well as I think. He scooped her up and carried her over to her bed on the floor. He laid her down and pulled her quilt up to her neck. "Sesshomaru-sama onegai. Don't make me leave, don't leave me tonight." She reached up and placed a hand on his cheek. He placed his hand over hers and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

"Rin, if I…it wouldn't be fair to this man you seem to think is so horrid. He deserves the best of you. Sleep now, you'll find out everything tomorrow." With that he stood and walked quickly out of her room. She sat up quickly and started to cry silently.

"It's true, he has found someone. He doesn't care about me. He never will." She cried her self into a light slumber.

Later that night, just after midnight, she awoke with a jerk. Remembering all that had happened, a tear slid from the corner of her eye.I need to go see him one last time. Just to engrain his face into my memory before I leave. I will not let him send me away, I'll leave before he can. With that she stood and changed into dark robes like the ones of the previous night. She grabbed her small sack, still packed, and opened her door. She made her way towards his room, praying he was asleep when she got there. She listened just outside his door and heard deep breathing. She smiled a small sad smile and slid the door open and stepped inside, leaving her bag in the hallway. She walked over to his bed and knelt next to his sleeping form. She blinked rapidly trying to clear her eyes of the tears within. She whispered a small good bye and leaned down to place a small light kiss to his forehead, just next to his blue crescent moon. Before she knew what hit her, strong arms were wrapped around her waist and she felt small kisses being placed to the base of her throat.

"You took longer than expected. I was beginning to think you left with out saying good bye." He whispered as he sat up and captured her lips in a kiss. She tried to resist, but when she felt his tongue prod her mouth she couldn't help but open it.

"What?" she questioned breathlessly. He smirked and stole another kiss before answering her question.

"I was hoping to tell you something to change your mind about leaving. Actually I planned on informing you of who your mate would be before you met him." She froze. She wouldn't respond to his kisses or touches at all she was completely shut down from the inside out.

"Wh-who?" she managed to stutter out. He smiled and placed a small playful kiss on her open lips.

"I thought you knew already. You know him quite well. You have even confessed your love for him to his ears blindly. And he returns your love four times over."

"Sesshomaru-sama?" she questioned breathlessly.

"Yes love. It appears you won't be leaving this house after all. Rin…be my mate." She immediately captured his lips in a kiss. She pulled back suddenly and nodded vigorously, having lost her voice. He smiled slightly and pulled her down until her head touched the pillow. He stopped and hovered over her, memorizing how she felt beneath him, with him. He noticed that their `rough' play had worked her shirt below her shoulder. He bent his head suckling lightly on her shoulder leaving small pink lines where his fang grazed the flesh. She moaned and whimpered with every touch he made. She found the belt of his clothing and loosened it enough to push the shirt from his shoulders exposing his perfect chest to her hungry eyes. He followed suit pushing her shirt off her body until it lay limply underneath her. He took the peak of her breast in his mouth and suckled and flicked it with his tongue. She gasped out loudly as a bolt of pleasure sizzled from her breast down her stomach to the apex of her thighs. She threaded her hands through his hair and vaguely wondered how he got his hair so soft before another bolt sizzled down her body. She writhed beneath him, and the sounds she was making excited him even more then he had been previously. He pulled at the belt holding her clothing on and it came loose in his hands. He pushed the garment down her pale legs until she was completely bare to his gaze. Her cheeks turned a crimson red and she had to struggle not to cover her body, this is what I want. I have wanted this for years; I can't push him away now. His eyes darkened as lust clouded his mind. He stifled a loud animalistic growl as he felt her hands on his stomach tracing down to his loose belt that was just barely holding his pants on him. He felt a light tug and his pants came loose as she pushed the belt away. She knew she was blushing as his thick member came out at full attention.

"Sesshomaru, show me. Show me how much you love me." She begged knowing full well that he wasn't planning on stopping until the deed was done. "Onegai" He stared down at her, her body glowing with youthfulness and beauty. He captured her lips in a lust filled kiss and she barely registered his hand smoothing down the flat of her stomach to the conjunction of her thighs. He slid his longest finger inside and almost immediately found a bump that made Rin gasp. He circled the tiny bump trying to build up the tension. She felt a pleasurable tension building in her lower belly, and arched against his hand. His finger rubbed directly over the bump and the pleasure increased exponentially. She cried out as the waves of pleasure racked and rocked her body. He stole another kiss and then placed his hips in between her opened legs. She stiffened knowing that pain would be coming shortly. Pushing in he groaned at how tight she was. Kami, she's so tight. It feels so good. He pushed in farther and his manhood cleared the first set of tight muscles. He hit a barrier and froze knowing he was about to hurt her. He leaned down settling his weight on his elbows and kissed her hoping to relay his regret through it. He pushed roughly and heard her cry out in pain. He stopped mid-stroke, afraid to move and cause her more pain, but needing to so badly it hurt.

"Rin, I'm sorry." He whispered in to her ear. He kissed her neck and whispered soothing words trying to comfort her. After a few moments the pain receded and she bucked up lightly to see if it had completely disappeared, and to tell him he could continue. He took the hint and started to move slowly, in and out. The friction was exquisite along with the incredibly wonderful feeling of fullness. The familiar tension began to build in the pit of her stomach and she moaned lightly into his ear.

"Faster…onegai. Sesshomaru, faster." She said breathlessly. Her wish was granted and his pace sped up until the tension was growing in a great crescendo. Soon the same wondrous feeling of pleasure racked her body and she groaned out his name. Muscles she didn't even know existed were pulsating and throbbing. Feeling her inner muscles contract he buried his nose in her hair and felt the superb feelings of a scalding climax hit him. He gritted his teeth but a low guttural cry was able to escape his throat. He collapsed on her and rolled them over so she was resting on top of him. They rested there for a few moments each trying to catch their breath. Rin pulled her head away from the warm cushion of his muscle and looked into his amber eyes. "Arigatou Master. Aishiteru. Always and for ever." She said landing a sweet innocent kiss on his cheek. She rolled off of him and settled on her side using his shoulder as a pillow and was soon asleep. He slung his arm around her shoulders and brought her head close to his mouth.

"Me too Rin, me too. Aishiteru. Always." He whispered into her ear. Even though she was asleep already when he said it a small smile played on her lips. She hugged him closer and they spent the rest of the night clutched to each other.
