Chapter Five: Awakening Discovery

~*I realized I hadn't said I don't claim Inuyasha. Well I don't unfortunately. If I did then there wouldn't be reruns of the first 52 episodes on Cartoon Network. Plus I would be married to Sesshomaru instead of hooking him up with Kagome. I'm pathetic I know.But on with the story.*~

Kagome awoke in a room she did not recognize. The room seemed like it was made out of Silver. She looked above her and saw there was a painting on the ceiling. It was of the heavens at night. She looked at the walls and noticed that there was some type of strange writing like that of ancient Egyptian only different. She moved her limbs under the sheets to see how big the bed was. She tried with all her might but could not feel the bottom board at the end. She started to sit up but quickly decided against it when she felt sharp pain going up and down her back. It was then she realized what happened. She began to remember the dragon and the children hiding.

`Oh Kami!', thought Kagome,'the children where are they?!' She tried to remain calm but she couldn't. Horrible thoughts were going through her head. What if they were badly hurt? Or worse? She had to find them. She lifted up the black silk sheets and began to swing her legs around to the left side of the bed. The pain was unbearable but she put it towards the back of her mind and concentrated on lifting herself out of the bed. She felt warmth around her waist and saw that it was Sesshomaru holding her as if he would not allow her to get up.

"Where are my children?", Kagome hissed. She was glad to see it was him that saved her but she didn't want to admit it at this moment. Especially when she could not sense her children anywhere.

"They are safe. They are asleep in another room.", Sesshomaru said softly. He knew she would reopen the wounds if she got up too quickly. He pushed her down gently enough for her to get the message to lay back down and at the same time keep her from becoming hysterical. When she laid back down he sat on the edge of the bed.

"Were you the one who saved us back in Inuyasha's forest?", she asked politely. She already knew the answer but wanted to hear him say it. She figured him saying it would mean that she didn't imagine it.

"Yes. I did. You should be more aware of your surroundings. I know you could sense the dragon long before it appeared yet you pushed it aside longer than needed.", he answered. He didn't want to sound like he was lecturing her but that is how it came out.

Kagome was entirely offended by Sesshomaru's remark. How dare he tell her how to feel what and when to act on it! It wasn't his place to tell her how to do anything anyways. It annoyed her to no end when someone would tell her what to do. It reminded her of Inuyasha when she was pregnant with Caesarion. He would tell her what to eat, what all she could do, and when she was doing to much. She was so lost in her thoughts that when Sesshomaru asked her a question she did not hear it. It was only until he placed his hand on her shoulder that she realized he had been talking to her.

"I acted when I felt it was necessary to. How would you know what I was thinking and feeling anyways?", she asked clearly irritated.

"I knew you could sense me. Do not play dumb, miko. I know you could sense someone was watching you. I also know you knew who it was." Sesshomaru was clearly getting angered. He was letting his youkai temper get the best of him. The last thing he wanted was to scare her away and any chance of them being together running away with her.

"What were you doing spying on me? It is none of your business what I do with my children!", Kagome said raising her voice. She saw a slight glimmer of red in his golden emotionless eyes. She knew she hit a nerve with this latest remark.

"I, Lord Sesshomaru, do not need to answer to a ningen", he stated as he began to raise himself from the edge of the bed. He decided this was his cue to leave. He did not want to upset her further. He walked out gracefully.

`How dare she raise her voice to me', he thought, `she has a lot of nerve.' In all of his life he had never met female ningen who not only had the audacity to raise her voice to him but to speak with him as an equal. Especially a miko. He decided it would be best to put the children in her room and to leave her alone for at least a day. He needed her in a better mood if he was going to win her heart.

Kagome was so angry by this time she couldn't even think straight. How could she get herself in this position. If Inuyasha was here he would have never let her go out into the forest with the children alone. He would have accompanied them and then maybe she wouldn't be stuck in this palace with Sesshomaru.

`But Inuyasha isn't here', she quietly reminded herself, `You made sure of that didn't you. You gave him what he thought he needed and in an ironic twist of fate killed the only life you knew.'

Just then she saw two small little heads pop in. Her spirit was lifted instantly. They both quietly came in and almost screamed with excitement when they saw that their mother was alright. They ran and jumped into bed, but were careful when they hugged her. Sesshomaru had told them she had been injured badly on the back and that when they touched her to be very careful. They were told if they reopened her wounds they would not be allowed to see her until she was completely healed.

"Momma are you okay?", Caesarion asked. He could sense that she was still in a lot of pain but was wearing a smile to hide it.

"Yes, love. I am fine. I just got a few scratches is all. How are you and your brother?", she asked putting on a smile that brightened up the room.

"We're a little tired. We've been really worried about you. Plus Sesshomaru told us that you had been seriously injured", Shippo said. He knew the last part he had said would definitely spark her curiousity.

"Well he was mistaken. I'm sorry loves that I let this happen. I should have left when I felt like we were in danger. I really haven't been a good mom. If only Inuyasha was here…", she began to trail off.

"Don't worry momma. We have each other. We all miss daddy but we can't get him back. It just happened. No one can change it", Caesarion said. He had never met his father but he saw a painted portrait once. Plus he had heard stories of him not only from his mother but from Shippo, Miroku, Sango, and Kaede. He climbed into her lap and gently cupped her face in his hands and kissed her cheek. Shippo climbed carefully onto her shoulder and wiped away her tears. Kagome couldn't believe how lucky she was to have them both.

She broke the silence and suggested that they all take a nap. She hadn't really done anything but she was exhausted from her encounter earlier with Sesshomaru. Plus she could tell that the children had not really slept. She figured it was because of their worry for her. She held them close to her heart and prayed to the heavens that she never lose them.

Sesshomaru wanted to check up on her and make sure that the children had found the room with no problems. He saw the quaint little picture of the family asleep in his bed. He longed to go and sleep in there with them. Yet he knew was not welcome at the moment, but he was hoping that he could change that. He knew Kagome missed Inuyasha, and he knew that she knew that the children needed a father. He wanted to be that father, and he wanted to be the one to wipe away Kagome's tears and kiss her cheek as her children had done. But first he would need to warm up to the children. He needed to be in their good grace if he ever wanted to inch close to being with Kagome. He knew the first step to that was to introduce Rin to them and to teach the boys how to become men. The more he thought about it the more he knew that everything was about to get confusingly complicated. It was already confusing that he had fallen in love with a ningen but not any normal one, a miko, and his brother's widow to add onto the list of turn off's. Sesshomaru decided that he would teach her to love again and in the process teach himself as well. `It's worth it though', Sesshomaru thought to himself `This will truly be an awakening discovery'.

I want to thank AmyBAby for the review. I am glad that someone is reading and doesn't want me to stop. I hope you like this but I won't be able to update for at least a month. I have trouble with inspiration and time management plus school and homework. Plus chores. Yeah I have a problem with managing my time. But hey what author does? But yeah off of my pathetic life.
