InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Pirates ❯ Chapter 1:Discovered Royalty ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
was a beautiful night when the pirates attacked. The full moon shone down upon the town. I tried not to look at the blood of villagers and pirates alike as I passed the bodies. A few tears slipped past my barriers as I reached a girl of 13 at the most.

“How could anyone do something this horrible? I expected even a pirate to have more of a heart than this!” I heard something like a breath and quickly leaned down to check the young girl’s pulse. She’s still alive!!! How could anyone survive losing this much blood, much less a young girl.
My gaze quickly swept over the blood-stained bodice and skirt. Unless the blood wasn’t all hers. I took the knife out of my belt and worked at the opening to the dress, a few slashes and already been made so I worked at those first. When the dress was finally off I saw only a few flesh wounds and realized the girl had probably only fainted from the pain. I took my bag off and dug through trying to find the bandages and hoping against hope I hadn’t used all of them on my last patient.

“Yes!” I quickly pulled the long white bandages from my bag and some ointment from my time. Just as I was on the last step the girl’s breathing quickened and her eyes just barely started to open.

“Bloody pirate, get your bloody hands off of me!” She quickly jumped up, still unaware of her state of undress.
“SIT DOWN! I am not a pirate and do not prefer being called one! Especially one who could do something like this without a thought otherwise! Now sit down or you’re going to start bleeding again!,” she watched as the girl reluctantly sat down, “ Ok, good. Now, my name is Alaina. Yours?”
“Marie.”
“Good. Now Marie, were your parents in this?”
“No, my parents are King Thomas and Queen Elaine of the Eliah sector. My sister, Rowan, and I were sent here to see my cousins and learn to be “proper” ladies. We had just gotten here when the pirates attacked. Our guards were killed in the squabble and my sister was captured, I wasn’t because I fainted and they must have thought me dead. My brother, Crown Prince Evan, and my parents must be looking for us by now when they didn’t get word that we had made it here safely.”
“Then we must get you back to Eliah. I am a priestess from Seetah. I travel around looking for places such as this and survivors of things like this raid. I suppose I am your guardian until we can get you home.”
“Home? I’m not going home! I have to find Rowan, she’s always looked out for me and now,” at this she drew a deep breath. “It is my turn to help her.”
“No! We will get you home and then we will have your armies and family look for her.”
“I am your princess and I command you to help me look for her before we go home. We will send a messenger to tell them I am unharmed first.”
“What?! You can’t order me to do anything! I am at least ten years your senior and I WILL NOT take orders from a child! Princess or not!”
“Fine then, I shall go on my own! You can be my messenger!”
“Fine, I will go with you. You would probably kill yourself and your sister otherwise. But, I think we ought to find you some clothing first. Unless, you would like to find the pirates in your underwear?”
“I should have a trunk around here somewhere. You shall have to change as well. We can’t have you going around looking like a brothel woman when you need to like my woman in waiting,” she said with a sly glance towards the woman’s skirt with splits to the knee and close fitting top.”
“This is what I wear to fight in! How am I suppose to fight in a corset, bodice, and full skirt?”
“Oh, fine! We’ll just say you’re a priestess from Eliah sent to protect me.”
“Fine, just shut up already! You talk too much to be a princess you know!”
“What did you think I meant about my parents wanting me to become a proper young lady? I look the part enough but once I open my mouth, it’s blown!”
“So I noticed,” Alaina said, carefully rubbing her temples.

They had finally found an emerald green gown deemed suitable by her royal highness and were getting ready to leave when Marie brought up the topic of marriage.
“So, why aren’t you married yet? You’re pretty enough,” she said looking at Alaina’s green cat eyes and long dark brown hair.
“Well, when you’re a priestess you don’t have a lot of time for suitors. I have been a priestess since my fifteenth year and I’ve been training since my tenth.”
“So, why don’t you retire? I know plenty of other priestesses who have.”
“Because I’m not going to give up my whole life for a man unless I’m sure I love him.”
“I don’t believe in love. And you shouldn’t either! It’s a fairy-tale made for the young and the foolish! When I marry it shall be for land or the good of my country1 Not love!” she spat the word as if it were acid. “ My parents didn’t marry for love and they are just fine.”
“And I suppose Evan and Rowan believe this as well?”
“Well, no. They want to marry someone who they can “love” and will love them back! Humph, as if! Love is just something made so catty women and slime balls can get their hands on my siblings money!”
“Funny that you’re the youngest child and you’re the only one that believes that.”
“I know, Evan teases me about it all the time. Sometimes, I just wish he would keel over on his fine high horse! Rowan doesn’t tease me though. She just tells me that Evan is just at that age where he teases everyone. Even her! And no one teases Rowan! She’s the kindest person ever! Once my kitten, Barthlomew, broke his tailbone because the servant boys were being mean to it and Rowan yelled at them and helped me bandage his tail.”
“Well, she does sound nice. I’ve got a little brother and sister, but I don’t see them much anymore. I actually miss them both a lot. My sister and I used to fight a lot, but now I wish I could see her more. You and Evan ought to try and get along more.”
“Whatever. Look, it’s almost dark, can we stop here?” She pointed at a nearby tavern and Alaina jumped at how dark it was.
“Of course. I hadn’t even realized how late it was. Do you have any money?”
“A little. The pirates took most of it though.” She dropped a few gold coins into Alaina’s outstretched hand and followed her into the room.
~~~~~
“I am a priestess from Seetah. This is my companion, Marie, we need a room. How many coins for tonight? Also, we will request privacy. I know your reputation, Ayame, and I won’t take kindly to walk-ins.” Alaina glared at the red-head demon.
“Of course not, Ally.”
“Shut up, Ayame and get us our room.”
