InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Please Don't Stop The Music ❯ Spring Is In the Air ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Disclaimer: Inuyasha and anything affiliated with the work does not belong to me, unfortunately. Man, I'd be a freakin' genius if it did. Anyway, it is part of the wonderful works that Rumiko Takahashi has accomplished.

Please Don't Stop the Music:
Spring is in the Air

Birds sang their melodic tunes, telling of the first days of spring. The last of the snow having melted. No longer did the wind blow its chilled air. An assortment of creatures were
frolicking about cheerfully on the forest floor and chirping hastily among each other. Colorful wild flowers begin their much anticipated bloom in the newly sprouting green grass. Rays of
sunlight were bursting through the tree tops and bestowing their long awaited brilliance over the wide expanse of meadows and rolling hills. Spring had finally arrived. A time when the
land was bursting with new life everywhere one may let their eyes wander. The first of many mating calls being heard along the forest grounds. Even the villages were not immune to the
infectious spring-time love sickness. Amorous, young men were seen trying to win over the hearts of coy maidens. The possibility of a new life beginning between two beings was
everywhere.

“SIT BOY!!” “GAHHHH” *FWUMP*
*grope* *WHACK* “PERVERT!!!”
“Idiots” *mew*

Well…almost everywhere.

Standing in a clearing between the edge of the forest and the edge of a placid river stood a group of six unusual friends. Two young human girls…one being one year older than the other.
Kagome, a fifteen year old, time traveling middle school student who comes from the twentieth century in Tokyo, Japan. Sango, a very talented, sixteen year old demon slayer whose village was
slaughtered by the evil half-breed Naraku.

One human monk named Miroku; cursed with a wind tunnel in his right hand because of the same vile half-demon, Naraku. At nineteen years of age he has gone down in the Guinness
book of world records as the first man to accost 100,000 women in a time span of a measly year!! At least, according to Kagome…Kamis know how many he had already groped before
she met him…heh, he might even hold an even more impressive record than said record.

One half-demon with adorable puppy ears. Inuyasha, appears to be a young man of about 16 or 17 but his true age is unclear. Enraged at having his first love stolen by the deceitful plots
of Naraku, he vows to hunt him down until the very end.

And two small demons. Shippo, the clever fox child orphaned at a very young age and taken in by the, then small but ever growing, Inuyasha pack. And last but not least, Kilala. Long
time companion to the demon exterminator, Sango and the devoted friend and fierce protector of the Inuyasha pack.

The group of friends was trying to decide what to do next since they had no leads as to the whereabouts of their common enemy, Naraku. Inuyasha insisted they keep looking no matter
what, thoroughly convinced that they would come across him any day now. Kagome, being the `ever mindful of others feelings and state of exhaustion her companions were in' type of person
she was, suggested they take the rest of the day off and relax. Secretly though, she was itching to change into her bathing suit and jump into the heavenly looking lake a few yards away. It was
close to mid day and they had been traveling non-stop since before the break of dawn. And even before then they had turned in to bed well past midnight. Inuyasha having claimed that “the
sooner we get going the sooner we find the bastard and get the jewel back” and “didn't you humans sleep already, that's all you know how to do…useless” Which brings us back to the reason
why Inuyasha was hurled face first into the ground.

“I can't believe you Inuyasha! We've been traveling at your outrageous pace for nearly a week! And we still haven't found a single clue as to Naraku's location. Don't you think we should take
some time to think of a strategy instead of just wandering anywhere and everywhere???” Kagome tried to convince the hanyou that it would be smarter for them to quit now, get some rest and
think of a plan which served to find Naraku.

But Inuyasha would have none of it, convinced that his way was better since there were no other suggestions. “tch…whatever, you stupid humans are good for nothing, plus…I haven't
heard any great ideas coming from any of you, so quit dragging your feet and let's go!”
“SIT!!” *FOOMP* “argh! Would you stop that, wench!”
“Hmph…you deserved that.”

Miroku, having seen that this was going nowhere quickly decided to intervene to add his two cents and prevent any further confrontations. The group was tired and in no mood for a
fight as it was. “Please Inuyasha, I believe that the Lady Kagome has a point.”
“What?!? You're on her side? I thought you wanted to destroy Naraku and get rid of your wind tunnel once and for all.” Retorted Inuyasha.
“As right as you are Inuyasha, you must see that we truly are at a disadvantage. We have no idea where Naraku could be hiding, and for all we know, he may be watching us as we speak. We
should really take time to discuss what would be the best course of action to take.” As always, Miroku acted as mediator in the group and cooled the rising anger between two of his companions.

Sango also thought Miroku had a valid point and nodded in agreement. “I'm with Miroku and Kagome on this one Inuyasha. We do need a better strategy than this one. We need to be
prepared when we face off with Naraku. And seeing as we don't know of his whereabouts does put us at a disadvantage.” Shippo and Kilala nodded in agreement to what Kagome, Miroku and
Sango said. Both being equally tired from the grueling pace they'd been forced to keep for the last few days, they desired a break.
“You guys too?! What is this, give up on finding Naraku day? Arrrh! Fine! If you're that weak, we'll stop here…but we're leaving as soon as everyone quits complaining!” Unhappy about the
small retaliation happening against him in his own pack none the less! Inuyasha proceeded to stomp into the forest out of the sun's intense heat and unceremoniously lowered himself to the
ground to lean against the trunk of a tree, where he commenced to brood over not having gotten his way `What the heck is that girl thinking?! Turning my own pack against me, I'm the alpha in
this joint not her! Keh, I should teach her a lesson, maybe then she'll learn how to follow orders.'

As Inuyasha sat and thought of a way to get back at Kagome, the rest of the group slowly walked to where he now sat and literally dropped to the ground in exhaustion. After taking a
few minutes to catch their breaths, they began setting up camp. Each person being assigned a duty to carry out in order to get a fire going and get lunch started.

Since Kagome was out of her supply of Ramen, much to Inuyasha's chagrin, they decided that fish would be their afternoon meal since there was a lake not too far from the area they
now occupied. And so they each set out to accomplish their camp duties. Inuyasha and Shippo were assigned fishing duties and decided that it would be easier to catch fish from the river that
emptied into the lake. It would be a little further away from the campsite than the lake itself, but being that the river was narrower it would be harder for the fish to escape. Sango, accompanied
by Kilala, was in charge of getting the fire site ready. She got to work looking for dry tinder and stones to get a spark going. Once she had everything set, all that was left to do was wait for the
firewood. Miroku had that taken care of for he was assigned the task of collecting firewood. He didn't stray too far from the site, for there was plenty of fallen branches and such conveniently
waiting to be picked up by him. Kagome was the one that had to travel the furthest, having been chosen, or more appropriately having volunteered, to gather water in the now empty water
bottles she had. She had actually just wanted an excuse to walk to the lake and dip her sore feet into the calm water and cool them down.

As Kagome made her way from the campsite to the lake she started thinking of the time she'd spent in the past. It was almost a year ago that she fell down that well, and started her
strange but exciting adventure with her new friends. Not to mention that her birthday was just around the corner too, she didn't know which to be happier about: Her birthday or the one year
anniversary of having come upon the mystical land of ancient Japan. `I can't believe it'll be a year next week, what should I do to celebrate?' Kagome asked herself `Maybe we should have a
small gathering at Kaede's village, I'm sure all the villagers will be happy to take some time off and celebrate.' As she kept walking her thoughts ran away from her, thinking of how to go about
planning her party. `Yeah! There can be food and games…even music and dancing too! Oh, how I wish I could bring my music from home, I think they would enjoy that.' As Kagome thought
of a way of making her wish come true she felt something start coming out of her jean pocket. She grabbed for it and was surprised to find her MP3 player. “Oh wow, what luck.” She thought
out loud. `I thought I had taken these out of my pocket, now I have something to listen to other than Inuyasha's constant complaints.'

She eagerly stuck the earphones on and excitedly turned the small gadget on. She searched for a song to listen to and as soon as she found one she wanted to hear she pressed play. The
music started sounding immediately and she proceeded to turn the volume up full blast. So she continued on towards the lake, with mp3 player in hand, backpack in tow and music blaring in her
ears. So caught up in the music was she that Kagome failed to sense the strong demonic aura coming from a few yards away.

A.N.: I hope ya'll (yep, I'm from Texas) like this first chapter. After reading a lot of good and not so good fan fictions, I decided to try it out myself and see how well I faired. So far I didn't find anything bad in this chapter, but that's just me. It's everyone else's opinion that matters here. So please, review and tell me what you think. I will try to post my next chapter in a couple of days. Thanks a bunch.
