Inutashio and Sesshomaru were having coffee when Rin burst in, still in her little sleep shirt and announced that her Uncle Inu was there. She'd hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek till he blushed, then wiggled free to tell her grandfather and father he was there.

A still blushing hanyou sheepishly made his way into the kitchen, "Good morning everyone. I was wondering if I could have a word?"

Sesshomaru nodded, his eyes fixed on his plate to hide the mirth they contained. He knew his younger half sibling had not meant to kill him, he just enjoyed seeing him squirm through what was going to be his first apology ever, for anything. Bar none.

"Go ahead," Inutashio nodded with a smile.

"I am so sorry I almost killed you Sesshomaru-- I let me temper get the best of me. Gods, that could have been Gypsy, dad, or one of the kids. I shudder when I think what could have happened. Do you forgive me?" Inuyasha sat down so hard in a an already pulled out chair, the wood squeaked.

"Inuyasha," Sesshomaru spoke, stretching out the word until it sounded like three
separate words. "I do not condone your lifestyle or the means by which you handle some of your affairs. It was partially my fault for meddling in the first place. I was not called there, I merely came to inform you that you left your children behind. They were here all night, Inuyasha. I forgive you for what you did to me. Father was able to revive me, but it will not do so again. At some point you are going to have to grow up and mature and stop this non-sense before something dreadful happens!"

Rin walked over to her father and tugged his arm a bit, finding herself plopped on his lap without him moving his eyes from Inuyasha. She followed Sesshomaru's line of sight and frowned when she saw her Uncle across the table, looking at the floor, cheeks red.

Inuyasha knew his brother spoke the truth. He'd been so jealous and fucked up, he'd taken off to find Kouga and kill him, leaving his two children and Kouga's son unattended in the middle of the night without a second thought.

"Your mate--" Inutashio's voice was soft but serious.

At that Inuyasha's head snapped up, "Leave her the hell out of this! She's a damn good mother."

"I wish I could," Inutashio replied calmly handing his plate to a maid as she cleaned the table. "And yes, Gypsy is a good mother. That is when
she doesn't have to drag you out of bars and jail. Or has to follow you around to make sure things don't happen like last night. I have never truly been ashamed of you until right now, son. You have allowed something as trivial and small as the contents of a bottle or syringe to rule your life and endanger your family."

Inuyasha knew what he meant and his jaw clenched. Sesshomaru finished, "In youkai tradition if a male cannot care for his mate, she is subject to being taken by his father or brother or other suitable members of the family as a mate or second mate for life or until a suitable match is made. In which case the children remain with blooded kin."

Rin squirmed in the uncomfortable silence that passed. "Daddy can I go outside?"

Sesshomaru frowned, "You aren't allowed to go out today-- remember the running off incident from yesterday?"

Rin pouted but did not move from the warmth of her fathers lap. Inuyasha's growl echoed in the dining room. "You mean you'd take Gypsy and the pups, father?"

Inutashio chuckled. "Oh, I don't think so. Your mother would never allow that and even if she would I seriously doubt I have the patience for someone as lively as Gypsy."

"I would be the one to lay claim on her," Sesshomaru said coldly. Inuyasha flinched at that but made no outburst, restrained only by Rin's presence.

Another silence passed and was broken by Rin.

"Is Uncle Inuyasha in trouble, daddy?" She wondered aloud, recognizing the tone of voice her father was using as the one he used when reprimanding her or her brothers. She also knew that her grandfather was both her
father's father and uncle's father, so it made sense to her.

Sesshomaru nodded gravely and looked down at her wide eyes, "Yes, Rin."

Her already wide eyes grew wider with a childlike fear and she pulled herself up high enough to whisper in Sesshomaru's ear. "Is granpa--" The rest was lost in the white sea of hair that
surrounded her when he cocked his head to hear the rest.

Her simple inquiry making Sesshomaru's lips curl into a smirk. He sat her down on her feet and touched her nose before replying, "No, sweetheart. Not this time."

Rin sighed in relief. "I go play daddy!" She called over her shoulder.

Inuyasha blushed, almost imagining what his little
niece had asked and yet somehow wishing that it would be that simple. Inutashio was about to speak but the sound of the front door slamming shut caught him off guard and he stopped looking up at the kitchen door, Kagura entered with a sigh.

"Sesshomaru, Rin has gone outside-- she won't come back inside for me." She told him. Her china doll like face seemed whiter than normal, and had he given a damn, Inuyasha would have inquired about her health.
Sesshomaru growled and stood, "Excuse me."

Inuyasha and Inutashio both nodded and watched him move from the room wearing black jeans and a white tank top, his 'at home' taste had changed over the years. Or maybe it was Kagura who changed him, loving the way his well rounded muscles bunched and swelled in his chest and arms when he moved.

"Father--" Inuyasha started to speak, watching the frail looking Kagura fetch a bottle from the fridge and a glass of milk for herself.

His trail of speech interrupted by a commotion from the living room as Sesshomaru came back with a squealing Rin under his arms, protesting loudly to being taken to her room.

"Yes?" Inutashio stared at his son. "What is it?"

"I am sorry. I will try and be a better father and mate. But if Sesshomaru tries to claim my mate I'll kill him for good next time." Inuyasha turned to go, the sound of a glass falling from a startled Kagura's hand to the floor blocked by the sound of a heavy door closing behind him.

Her small body crumpled to the floor, swooning.
