Hojo woke up with Kagome in his arms. He had no idea what she did the night before. He inhaled her scent, taking all her exquisiteness in his mind. He felt the luckiest man alive. Too bad that Kagome is starting to love him less, since she is in love with his best friend. Too bad that his wife is keeping secrets from him, too bad that he has no idea what the future holds for him. If he only knew, can his life be different? Can he still love his friend and wife? Would he accept his wife's new interest?

 

Kagome opened her eyes and looked into her husband's loving eyes. She felt no pang of guilt whatsoever. Yes, she still loves him, but in a different way. Is it a sin to feel this way?

 

“Good morning my love bird, are you feeling better than when I wasn't at your side when you weren't feeling yourself?” Hojo asked as he laid a kiss on her cheek.

 

“Yes Hojo, I am feeling much better,” she told him. And it was the truth. After she had made love to InuYasha, she felt like a brand new woman, inside and out.

 

“Ah, I am glad. I have to go to a meeting with the King of the Eastern lands today, I do not know for how long. I hate to leave you, my love, but I must. I will have you take my place when I am gone and InuYasha will be by your side to help you with any difficult matters. I must go and get ready,” he said and he hopped off the bed.

 

Kagome lie on her back facing the ceiling and she started to feel giddiness raising in her. She is going to be alone with InuYasha in the castle! She can have sex with him as many times as she wants! This was pure bliss for her.

 

After a couple hours, Kagome looked out her window to see Hojo riding a horse with many guards with him. He looked up and waved at her and she waved back at him. Once he was out of sight, she went on to do her duties for the king.

 

In each meeting, InuYasha was with her. They avoided eye contact unless it was necessary. They didn't want anyone to know or get the hint that something was going on between them. Kagome asked Kaede to brush Sango's hair since she was unable to do it now she is taking responsibilities.

 

In each meeting, Kagome would daydream in which new position to have with InuYasha that night. She would also doze in and out when the nobles would talk. It was quite boring to her, sitting there, hearing what problems they were having.

 

`How could Hojo get through this all day?' she would think while drumming her fingers on the table. InuYasha would have to poke her in the ribs to get her attention back to the conference.

 

Every day, Kagome would get a letter from her husband, telling her how much he missed her what was going on between himself and the king. Kagome didn't care all that much, but she respectfully write back. Although, she did learn a few things in the letters that he sent her.

 

Hojo was gone for three months. During those three months, Kagome and InuYasha would sleep in the same room, night after night. They would whisper each other sweet things and hold each other and make love. Then the next day they would act like nothing is happening.

 

Also during those three months, Kagome would spend some quality time with her stepson. But every time during their conversation, the black raven would fly above them, shrieking and shrilling, which would always send chills down her back. Then Shippo would run off, saying that they can continue their conversation sometime later. This always puzzled her, but she didn't push the subject.

In Shippo's room, he was having a conversation with his mother, Kikyo.

 

“You shouldn't spend so much time with Kagome, my son,” said Kikyo.

 

“I know mother,” he replied.

 

“Something can go wrong with our plan, you know that,” she told him.

 

“Yes mother,” replied Shippo, “But you are always there during our conversation.”

 

“I know, I have to or you might blurt something out or she might get to you or something like that,” said Kikyo.

 

Shippo rolled his eyes to himself. How can Kagome get him to tell what the plan is? Their plan was to assassinate his father so he can become king. So far, their plan is working, in a way.

 

“You should go to bed, it's getting late,” Kikyo told him. She directed to him to bed and pulled the covers over him. She kissed him on the forehead and left.

The next day, Kagome received a letter from Hojo. It told her that he would be back in two days. Kagome sighed. At least she had three months of being with InuYasha, that's all that matters, three glorious months. Well, she can always sneak out and go to him late at night. Hojo will never know, he can be oblivious about anything and everything.

 

She heard a knock on the door and the door opened. It was Kaede.

 

“What is that you want Kaede?' asked Kagome as she put the letter on the table.

 

“When will King Hojo be back?” Kaede told the queen.

 

“In two days Kaede, please notify everyone,” she ordered. Kaede bowed and left.

 

Kagome looked back to the letter. She picked it up and threw it in the fire. Then, she looked outside. Snow was covering the ground and trees. Wintertime was always a bitter season to her. Everything dies and everything is in slumber. That's why she always loved spring; she can't wait for it. Everything is reborn and new.

 

`Might as well get everything prepared for Hojo's return,' she thought. She walked towards the door and opened it and closed it gently.

“It's almost time,” said Sesshomaru.

 

Miroku looked a little alarmed. “It's almost time? Really?”

 

Sesshomaru nodded his head. “Yes.”

 

Miroku closed his eyes. “I pray that they are ready.”
