Project IY14
Chapter 9 - Bath Time

Rin gulped hard as did Kagome.

They reached down and began to undo the thermal bands that covered IY14's body, a mockery of clothing. Not that thermal bands in themselves were a bad thing, they were very effective at reviving someone from hypothermia, and had saved many lives. But to make some one use it as the only form of clothing, it was…demeaning.

Rin rationalized that it was necessary to remove the bands as soon as they got him to the bathroom, so they could get a full view of his wounds and bathe him. However, once all of the bands were removed, the wounds were not the only things the two girls got an eye full of.

“Well um…” Rin cheeks flushed a little, and she turned to Kagome who was as red as a tomato.

Kagome had never seen a naked man in real life before, so she practically fell over blushing when Rin removed the last of the thermal bands. Rin's eyes had the experience of seeing the male anatomy once before when she and Sango had misunderstood the name of the bar where they were supposed to meet Miroku and Inuyasha, and ended up in a male strip club instead. It was one where the dancers quite literally “Take it all off.”

“Okay, there are only a few minor cuts and contusions, that's good.” Rin carefully looked over the youkai's body, all the while chanting the mantra in her head `If I am going to be a doctor, I need to get used to this.' She took in a deep breath and put her ear to his chest. “His breathing and heart rate are steady, and at a proper resting pace. The wounds on his left fingers seem to be the worst of it.”

Rin took one last scrutinizing gaze over IY14's body, then got up and turned on the water to fill the bath.

“Okay, let's get him into the tub.” Rin turned to Kagome, and found the other girl practically paralyzed with embarrassment trying not to look at certain “parts” of IY14's body. Rin let out a small, exasperated sigh. It was going to be a long evening…

***

For the first time in his short life IY14 felt true joy. For the first time fate had taken pity on him and helped him escape from his prison.

After darkness had taken the lab, the restraints locking him to the exam table released. His eyes had adjusted quickly to the dark, allowing him to see the experimenters, but they could not see him. He had been tempted to kill Naraku right then and there, but his desire to escape was greater than his desire for blood.

IY14 knew his only route of escape in this darkness was at the other side of the lab section, the door called the “fire exit.” Kohaku had shown it to him once “Just in case”. He remembered it was right near the lab that smelled like acid. He quickly picked up that scent and ran for it.

He passed many people in the hallways, but like Naraku and the other experimenters, they too were blinded by the darkness and could not recognize him.

Tenseiga…

IY14 stopped when he heard the sword's call. He was standing in front of a large doorway. It was here he had always felt the sword's presence. Usually the great armored doors had been closed, but now in the darkness they were open. He scanned the room; there was no one inside to stop him. At the opposite end, there was a large glass case, and imprisoned inside of it was Tenseiga.

IY14 lashed out his “whip” and broke the glass. He had not used that technique in a long time; it felt good to feel power coursing through his vessels again.

He picked up Tenseiga, and ran toward the door, but found the hallway had disappeared. There was just a doorway and then an infinite blackness, a blackness that even is acute night vision could not penetrate.

Not knowing what else to do he took a step forward and he fell. His heart raced as he hit the water, and then he began to surface to consciousness.

The familiar scent of flowers entered his nose, telling him even before he opened his eyes that she was there. He slowly lifted his eyelids and focused on his new environment. He was up to his mid chest in warm water. A bath?

His eyes fell on Rin who was holding a cloth against his left hand. After a few moments she put the cloth down on the rim of the tub and began to carefully examine the wounds on his hand, which he had incurred when he ripped the splints out.

He felt her hands gently caress his, her touch as soft and comforting as her eyes had been when he had seen her for the first time. Perhaps his next response was only natural, he gently wrapped his fingers around hers. She jumped a little at his movement, apparently she had not noticed he was awake, but she did not pull her hand away.

The neurons in his fingers seemed to be doing a dance of happiness from the sensory input they were receiving, as the cells of her skin ran against his. Apparently the nerves that innervated his face wanted to join in, for the corners of his lips slowly moved upward.

His eyelids drooped a little. He was still exhausted and the warm water, and the feel of Rin's soft hand on his, calmed him even more. Slowly his lids shut and he drifted below the surface of consciousness to the first blissful sleep he had ever known…

Rin jumped a little as IY14's fingers suddenly closed around hers. She had been so preoccupied examining the wounds on his hands she hadn't noticed his eyes had opened. Now they were looking at her with an intense, but slightly drowsy manner.

Not knowing what else to do she remained still and smiled at him. His eyes softened a little, and for a moment she thought she saw him smile back. Then he closed eyes again and his body sagged a little as he drifted off to sleep.

She sat there just watching him. For once he looked peaceful and content, and it made her feel a little warmer inside.

“Rin, I got the stuff you wanted.” A cheerful voice broke the peaceful silence.

Rin nearly jumped out her skin when Kagome entered the room with an armload of medical supplies.

“How's he doing?” Kagome asked as she set the supplies down next to Rin.

“Better, the wounds aren't as bad as I initially thought. I think what he really needs is rest.” Rin sighed. “I'm going to clean his hand again and then I need you to help me lift him out of the tub.”

Rin turned to face kagome as she finished speaking and found once again the other girl had turned as red as ketchup.

“Oh get over it already….!”

“No! No! No!” Miroku cried. He had his head buried in one arm and the other was slamming his fist onto the table with each “no”. “This is not happening, why is it that whenever my life starts to go right it all goes wrong...”

While Miroku continued to bemoan his fate Sango and Inuyasha exchanged nervous glances, waiting apprehensively for their leader to talk to them again.

Finally, Miroku lifted his head. His face looked calmer, like he had accepted his situation, but was not very happy about it. “I'm cursed. I must have been a perverted monk in a past life or something…”

“If reincarnation were real, I would put my money on that.” Sango chuckled, relieved that Miroku was no longer pitching a complete hissy fit.

“So you're not going to kill us?” Inuyasha perked his ears up hopefully.

“What good would that do now?” Miroku sighed.

There was a simultaneous release of breath from both Sango and Inuyasha in relief.

“At least when they catch us I can blame it on you guys.” Miroku stated matter-of-factly.

“Hey!”

“Just kidding. Just kidding.” Miroku raised his hands defensively.

“So, oh clever one, do you happen to have a plan, cause we're drawing up a blank.” Sango crossed her arms over her chest.

Miroku sighed defeatedly. “That was the extent of it so far.”

“Keh. And you're always tellin' us how smart you are.” Inuyasha snapped irritably.

“Ease of.” Sango hissed to the hanyou.

“Look.” Miroku's voice turned darker than Inuyasha and Sango had ever heard it before. “What I mean is, this isn't some low level mob boss we're trying to outrun, this is a military operation, authorized or not. I mean they've got the fucking Shichinintai for Christ's sake! If they send those nutjobs after us we're fucked!”

There was a sharp intake of breath from both Sango and Inuyasha.

“So it's run and wait to be caught, or stay and be caught for sure.” Sango murmured softly.

“Only chance is to turn around right now, and take this IY14 back and tell them that during that power outage he snuck on to our ship, and hope for the best.” Miroku said wearily.

“No.” InuYasha stood up from his chair. “We're not taking him back!”

“Are you crazy?” Miroku's eyes widened in both shock and anger.

“ Maybe I am, but I do know, that I couldn't live with myself if I sent him back to that hell after seeing what they done to him!” Inuyasha slammed his fist on the table. “It maybe stupid, in fact it's probably suicidal, but I just can't do.”

“I'm sorry Miroku, but I agree with him.” Sango stood up from her chair too. “Taking IY14 back is not an option.”

“Oh come on, when did you guys grow a conscience?” Miroku snapped.

“Cheating a mob boss out of a few bucks is one thing, sending someone back to pain is another. Once you see him you'll know I'm right.” Sango snapped back.

“Before you decide anything, at least come and meet the guy, make an informed decision y'know?” Inuyasha persisted.

“Please Miroku…” Sango's eyes softened and smiled, turning on as much charm as she could muster. Apparently it was working, for strained and helpless look was spreading across Miroku's face.

“All right, show me…” Miroku sighed in defeat, meanwhile Sango and Inuyasha exchanged glances of victory.

“How's it going guys?” Shippou suddenly popped his head in.

“Swimmingly.” Miroku drawled.

Inuyasha snapped his fingers and then turned to Shippou. “Hey Shippou when you hacked into their systems did you download any of those files we looked at.”

“You hacked into their systems!?” Miroku looked as if he had just been caught stealing Sango's bra.

“Miroku…” Sango laid a hand on their leader's arm, silently begging him not to kill anyone.

“HE made me do it!” Shippou's eyes went wide and he frantically pointed at Inuyasha. “I didn't want to do it!! Inu made me do it!”

“Shut up and answer the question brat! It's important!” Inuyasha growled at the kitsune hanyou.

Shippou stood there shivering not sure who to be more afraid of. “Yeah.....My computer automatically downloads stuff unless I tell it not to, which I forgot this time.....”

“Excellent!” Inuyasha clapped his hands together. “Shippou, would you please call up the video clips we watched earlier?”

Shippou looked a little bit shocked for a moment that Inu had said "please" to him, but he put his laptop on the table and began skimming through it. “Hmmm… Here it is!”

Shippou moved aside to allow Miroku and Sango to see video of IY14's torture. Inuyasha held his breath and kept his eyes on Miroku's face, looking for the slightest.

“My god, it's worse than I thought…” Sango's hands balled into fists and she turned her head away.

Inuyasha's gaze flitted from Sango to Miroku, whose eyes had widened considerably over the course of the clip.

When the clip finished its run, Miroku rose from his seat and began to pace around the room, staring pensively at the floor.

After a few moments he stopped and sighed wearily. “Sango I need you to call up all of our navigation maps, we need to see the shortest way to regulated space.”

“Regulated space…?” Sango furrowed her brow in confusion.

“I think I know where this is going.” Inuyasha smirked.

“This is obviously a top secret project,” Miroku closed his eyes and crossed his arms. “If we get to regulated space, they are not going to want the Shichinintai to cause a scene and draw attention to the project, so we'll have a better chance at getting lost from them. From there….well we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.”

“So we're keeping him?” Shippou asked excitedly.

Miroku opened his eyes, smiled and nodded. “What's left of my conscience gives me no other choice. But man if I die because of this I'm going to be really pissed.”

“If you die because of this, you have my permission to haunt me.” Inuyasha mirked.

“Deal!” The two men shook hands on that. However, the moment was interrupted by Sango wrapping her arms around Miroku's neck.

“Thank you, Miroku.” Sango said earnestly hugging him.

“Oh Sango….” Miroku blushed. He had a very contented look on his face. In fact if he were anymore content, drool would have been coming out of his mouth.

Unfortunately for both Miroku and Sango, the tender moment could not overcome certain temptations brought on by their close proximity. Sango soon found her bottom being groped by a hand belonging to the man she was embracing.

It took all of the pilot's self control to not smack Miroku upside the head. She settled instead for gently pushing him away. “That's a freebie, because I'm so happy with you right now. Next time you won't be so lucky.”

“Heh. Thank you for your mercy fair lady.” Miroku smiled, still riding the cloud of euphoria over groping Sango and getting away with it.

“Oh I forgot!” Shippou spoke up after packing away his laptop. “Rin sent me to tell you that she's got IY14 all patched up. The wounds weren't as bad as she initially thought.”

“All right. You guys lead the way.” Miroku sighed in mere acceptance outwardly, though in his mind he was excited about seeing a full blood youkai.

***

“So he's really a full blood youkai?” Miroku whispered in disbelief and awe, as they came closer to Rin's room.

“It's crazy isn't it?” Inuyasha murmured, sharing Miroku's feelings. “He shouldn't exist, but there he is...”

“I'd kill to have his hair.” Sango decided to snap the boys out of their awestruck stupor. “He has prettier hair than you, Inuyasha... actually, he kind of reminds me of you.”

“What?! No way! I'm much better looking.” InuYasha snapped defensively.

“If he truely is a full youkai, then there's no way you or I could compete. In the fairy tales that's how the youkai lured fair young ladies to them.” Miroku sighed, rather crestfallen. “Lucky Bastards…”

Sango got a wicked gleam in her eye, and played along. “I'd better get in there before he goes and falls for Rin or Kags. I call dibs!”

“Uh oh, Miroku, you're about to lose your woman. Watch out!” Inuyasha smirked, as Sango swooned exaggeratedly.

“That's it, I'm throwing him out the airlock.” Miroku grumbled.

“How about you say hello first? Who knows, you might like him!” Sango stopped her mock swooning to point out that statement matter-of-factly.

“Well I thought I might...But if you will turn into a drooling puddle at his feet, I will not like that much.” Miroku said wryly.

“Ooh, that's low...” Inuyasha made an exaggerated wince. “Judging a guy in inverse proportion to how much your girl likes him. Not fair, Miroku.”

“Well if that isn't the pot calling the cattle black.” Miroku brightened up as seeing a place where he could hit back. “I seem to recall you nearly ripping out Renkotsu's throat when he was hitting Kagome.”

“That's different. We already knew he was scum.” Inuyasha snarled, very flustered indeed.

“Right…” Miroku smirked, knowing he had hit right on target. “Besides it was you I wanted to throw out of the airlock Inuyasha.”

The group of three entered the room.

Kagome was sitting by the bed she and Rin had placed IY14 in, just watching the youkai as he slept. Meanwhile, Rin was rummaging through a box at the far end of her room, pulling out various medical e-books she had.

One book she pulled out had an old battered leather cover, and had pages made of actual paper in it, rather than just an information screen behind a book cover. Rin looked at it for a moment then carefully set it aside before going back to the box and pulling out a book, titled “Drugs and the Body.”

“He really is one.....” Miroku whispered after a long moment of just standing and watching the youkai in silence.

“Did you think we were making this up?” Inuyasha quirked an annoyed eyebrow at him.

“No it's just…My logic couldn't accept it until I saw it.” Miroku murmured breathlessly. “Can you feel it? That power…even while he's just sleeping.”

“He'll be even more so when the drugs finally wear off.” Rin frowned, and began pressing the “scroll” button to flip through the electronic pages of the e-book.

“How long will that take?” Sango asked.

“Depends on how long he's been on the drugs, how powerful they were, and how well his gets rid of them. Either way he's going to be very ill when he wakes up.” Rin stated not looking up from the book.

“Count me out! I am SO not cleaning up puke!” Inuyasha's ears flattened against his head in alarm, and he quickly made his way toward the door.

“Hey, wait up!” Miroku quickly followed.

“It's probably for the best anyway.” Rin looked up from the book, and shot the guys an annoyed glare. “He's very, very nervous around people, so until he adjusts, perhaps less people at one time is better”

Both men at the door quickly nodded. “Yes, of course!”

“In that case. Get out!” Sango snapped at the two of them.

“Yes, ma'am!” Miroku saluted before running away.

“Post haste!” Inuyasha followed.

The girls let out a long suffering sigh. “Men…”
