PROJECT IY14
Chapter 10 - The General's office
Naraku stared into the unfathomable darkness that surrounded him and suffocated him, for a moment he thought he had been sent back in Botany Bay Prison on Ceti Alpha VI
Then a pair of golden eyes stared back at him…
Naraku groaned as he opened his eyes. He glanced around and saw he was in the hospital wing. Kanna was sitting in a chair next to the bed he was lying on. She turned to look at him then carefully set her laptop down and stood up.
“What happened?” Naraku slowly sat up. The room spun on his axis, forcing him to put his head between his legs to stop the spinning.
“During the power outage IY14's bonds unlocked, he inflicted injury upon you.” Kanna stated her voice completely void of emotion. She was always like that no matter what occurred, but that was typical of a research android. Naraku was her superior officer so it was part of her programming to watch over him while he was injured.
“Has IY14 been secured?” Naraku lifted his head and carefully touched the wound on his forehead, that had by now been stitched up and a layer of fake skin had been placed over it to protect from infection.
“IY14 has not been found since black out.” Kanna stated.
“What?!” Naraku hissed, his eyes widened in shock and anger.
“General Katsuguri Kagura, wishes to speak with you as soon as you are coherent.”
“Tell her I'll be happy to discuss some things with her in a couple of hours.” Naraku snarled.
“Yes.” Kanna said briefly before turning and leaving the room.
Naraku leaned his elbow on his knee, and went back to rubbing the stitches on his head with his fingers. His red eyes glared intensely at nothing at all.

General Kagura Katsuguri slumped into her chair and lit a cigarette. She let out an angry puff of smoke as the full weight of the predicament they were in took on more and more weight. She felt her shoulders and spine shudder under the strain.
At least a lot of research had been found out. The genes for the remarkable healing abilities of the youkai IY14 had been isolated. They could apply therapy with those genes to soldiers so they could heal quicker on the battlefield and be less prone to infection. Not mention if a man lost an arm or a leg, with the new genes they could regenerate them within a year or two. Remarkable biology.
When this went public, they would be famous and set for life.
Still, one youkai ability eluded them and it was driving her crazy. The beast transformation. So far Naraku and his team had yet isolate that gene. It was Naraku's thinking that they needed to get a blood sample from IY14 when it was in its transformed state. So far the youkai had not even done that.
The only indication that IY14 had another state was when it had first attacked Naraku. His eyes glazed over red, its fangs grew, and its claws elongated. From the legends, and written accounts of people who had encountered transforming youkai, IY14 had all of the signs of a transformation. There was still hope.
The soft jingle of the office door chime broke Kagura out of her thoughts and she let out a grudging puff of smoke. “Enter.”
The door opened and Naraku stepped in, casting a disdainful look at the cigarette between her two fingers.
“You are slowly killing the alveoli in your lungs with those.” Naraku drawled dryly.
“You and this project are giving me heart disease, so what's the difference?” Kagura spat back. “Sit down. I have a word to say to you.”
Naraku sat down in the chair across the desk from her, raising an eyebrow.
“Unfortunately IY14, is no longer on this planet.” Kagura sighed in frustration, before inhaling another puff of smoke from the cigarette.
Naraku's eyes widened and he went deathly still as his mind refused to believe the words he had just heard. “Repeat that General….”
Kagura let out another puff of smoke. “At least that is what we have deduced by the fact the he is no where in this base, and by the fact that the tracker we implanted inside him his no longer receiving,”
Finally Naraku's brain went back online and he stood up, his fists clenched, shaking with fury. “I pray for your sake this is a miscommunication, and you don't ACTUALLY mean that my prize project is...” He slammed his hands down on the table, his red eyes glaring fireballs at Kagura. “MISSING!?”
“SIT DOWN!” Kagura boomed, the force of her voice knocking Naraku back into his chair.
“For my sake, Naraku? Before making threats I should remind you that I am the only one standing between you and Botany Bay Prison on Ceti Alpha VI!” Kagura fixed him with a withering glare.
Naraku swallowed hard, the memories of his imprisonment rising in his head, but he managed to keep his nerve and keep his voice steady. “There had BETTER be someone, make that LOTS of someones, looking for him this very minute or... or...!”
“Or you'll WHAT?!” It was Kagura's turn to stand up and abuse her poor desk. “You are not the one in power here!”
Naraku gulped again, but steeled himself and stood up to face the general, and hissed. “He is MY project, and if I don't get him back we are ALL in serious trouble!”
Kagura raised eyebrow and sat back down her face like an ice sheet. “Your project? Yes, your project. Your project was to clone a full blood youkai, and isolate the gene for the beast transformation. Where is it?” Frost hung on Kagura's lips as she spat the last words.
“I told you a thousand times, I need a blood sample from him in his transformed state.” Naraku protested, some shakiness entering his voice.
“That's what you said twenty million credits ago! I am beginning to seriously wonder if you are more trouble than you are worth!” Kagura rose and turned away from Naraku, folding her arms behind her back.
“After 2 billion dollars I still do not have the beast transformation, the project is gone and I have to send the Shichinintai after a group of goddamn space truckers!”
“Space truckers….? What?” Confusion replaced the anger and fear on Naraku's face.
Kagura swivels back around. “And now I find out that my chief science officer has gone the way of the Nazis, the prison guards of the Iraq War, and the Lacerna Internment scandal of 2220!”
“What?!” Naraku looked absolutely dumbfounded.
“Videos Naraku! Videos of the experiments!”
“Is it unreasonable to create a real record of our research!?” Naraku clenched his fist again.
“Videos showing you breaking the bones of IY14, without any sort of anesthetic.” Kagura snarled.
“I thought that….I thought the pain would trigger the transformation.” Naraku protested.
“And what? You wanted to record the inhumane treatment for posterity? What do you think will happen when we go public with our research?!” Kagura pounded her fist into the table leaving a sizeable dent.
Naraku opened his mouth, but then closed it and turned his head away.
Kagura picked up her abandoned cigarette from the table and took another big breath, before settling back down into her chair.
“That's the problem with you geniuses, you are complete idiots at any practical thinking.” Kagura spat, roughly crushing her cigarette into the ashtray. “The Shichinintai will inform us when they have retrieved IY14.”
“Yes…sir.” Naraku grumbled, turning back to face the general.
“You may despise me, but I am still the superior here. Salute.” Kagura turned icy faced again.
Naraku growled silently to himself, but stood out at attention, and gave a proper salute to Kagura.
“Good. Now get the fuck out of my office…
