InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Project IY14 ❯ Tea and Chatter ( Chapter 12 )

Red eyes gazed down at him, angry, sad and lustful…
“You…are…mine…” a silken voice whispered softly, filling IY14 with terror…
IY14's eyes snapped open, his heart racing at a million miles per hour. He lay there, shaking and sweating, until his eyes fell on something small and furry sitting on his chest. He yelped and sat up, causing the furry thing to fall into his lap. The furry thing uncurled itself, revealing that it was a living thing. IY14 further backed away, until his back hit a wall. The furry creature stood up on its feet, shook its two fluffy tails and looked up at him, with big curious eyes and. Then after making a high pitched meow, it hopped off the bed and slipped out a parting in the door.
After the creature had left, IY14 finally took in his surroundings. The room was not the cold gray cell he had come to know; this room was full of colorful furniture, with large pictures of different people on the walls, and fuzzy neon colored carpets on the floor.
He then took a moment to look down at himself. There were bandages on the fingers of his left hand, and he was no longer wearing the thermal bands. He had been dressed in garments of real fabric like the experimenters and the guards wore. The shirt was a dark green, with short sleeves and the pants were dark blue.
IY14 was taking in his surroundings, when he felt a wave of nausea hit him. He put a hand over his mouth and closed his eyes, waiting for it to pass. It did not. He looked around the bed side and saw the excrement disposal room a few feet away. He made a mad dash for it as he felt a lump rising in his throat. He got to the excrement bowl just in time to empty the contents of his stomach into it.
“Hi, Kirara. What cute little kitty? Have you been keeping our patient company?” Rin addressed the fluffy two tailed cat that was exiting the room in which they were keeping IY14. The cat belonged to Sango, but it had free rein to run around the ship.
Rin slid the door to her room open the rest of the way; she had left it partially open just in case IY14 woke up. She did not want him to feel like he was still a prisoner.
She walked in to find the bed empty, and a little bit of alarm ran through her before she heard the toilet flush, followed by the sink turning on. After few moments the bathroom door slid open and IY14 emerged. His body was trembling a little, and little beads of water ran down his face and dripped from his bangs, indicating he had washed his face after doing his “business” in the bathroom. The “business,” Rin guessed involved him practically vomiting up his toenails, for Rin could see a little bit of it sticking to the front of his shirt.
His eyes widened a little when he noticed her standing there, and he stood frozen to his spot. Rin stood frozen as well, having not really thought of what she might say to him if he were awake.
“Um,” Rin murmured, frantically trying to think of something to say. “If you take off your shirt I can…I can get it cleaned for you.”
IY14 nodded, and began to pull off his shirt. Rin blushed in surprise and looked away. Then it occurred to her that he was used to being exposed with other people, no doubt in the labs he went through a lot of examinations to make sure make he would not die on them with all of the horrible experiments they were putting him through.
To keep her eyes occupied Rin rooted through a basket of clothes she had brought for IY14.
“It's a good thing Kouga left so many things behind, and that men's clothes are long and baggy nowadays, as one size seems to fit all…” Rin spoke idly, as she pulled out a navy blue pullover.
They exchanged articles of clothing; Rin dropped the soiled shirt in the laundry basket, while IY14 pulled on the pullover.
“Well I was going to ask you if you were hungry, but I guess you're not.”
IY14 shook his head, and Rin shifted a little awkwardly. An even more awkward silence passed between them before Kirara mewed and began rubbing herself against IY14's legs.
IY14's eyes widened a little and he took a step back from the cat, who looked a little annoyed at not having the pat between the ears she expected. Rin leaned down and scooped up the two tailed cat.
“This is Kirara, she's sort of the ship's pet. She's very friendly; she likes it when you scratch her between the ears.” Rin smiled, feeling better that she had something t talk about.
“Ship's pet?” IY14 tilted his head, toward Kirara, curiously.
“Yeah, Sango found her on a battlefield, and the poor thing was caught in the cross fire (of the battle). It was during the Andromeda Wars about 30 years ago. Rough times.” Rin sighed as she set Kirara down and opened the door to a cupboard in her room. “Want some tea? It might help settle your stomach. I'd give you something stronger, maybe some Pepto-Bismol, but considering you're going through withdrawal from drugs it wouldn't be a good idea to give you more. I'm getting really good at recognizing diseases, and patching up wounds, but I'm still learning about drug effects. Hang on, let me get my book.”
“It is all right. I am better,” IY14 said quietly, sitting on the bed. Kirara padded over and jumped up on to the bed next to him. IY14 looked at the cat for a moment then mimicked the petting motions he had seen Rin do before. The cat seemed to be very pleased with this as she began to purr and arch her back to get as much petting as possible.
Rin stepped out of the bathroom, where she had been filling the hot pot with water from the sink, and laughed a little at the cute scene between youkai and the cat.
“I knew you two would get along.” Rin giggled as plugged the hotpot into an electrical outlet in the wall. “Like I said, Sango found her. Sango was wounded too; she took a shot to the knee. She had to limp all the way back to camp, as a result, she ripped several tendons and tore up her lemniscuses, but she recovered in a few weeks. She`s part nekoyoukai, neko also means cat, they heal pretty quickly. Hehe, maybe that's why she was so inclined to help Kirara. Kirara is a nekoyoukai too, but a lesser youkai. Greater youkai are bipedal, and have the proper brain to body ratio. Which tea would you like?”
IY14 blinked, apparently lost on the sudden change in topics. “I don't know…”
“Well, I'll just pour you some of what I have and you can see if you like it,” Rin stated matter-of-factly, and IY14 nodded.
“I think Miroku and Sango are going to get married of these days. Miroku has hentai tendencies toward women, but he's never groped a girl who asked him to stop. Sango is the only woman he's ever groped repeatedly, I think he likes her, and then again Sango has never said the word “stop.” She's always just whacked him upside the head, but she's never said for him to stop.” Rin was interrupted when the water in the hotpot began to boil. With a sigh she poured the water over the tea bags in the two cups.
“Poor Miroku,” Rin sighed again as she handed a cup to IY14. “He's never been the same since he lost his left arm. Oh, you haven't seen Miroku yet. He's the one who got this whole crew together. He met Sango not long after the Andromeda Wars were over and then they met Inuyasha, he's the one with the ears, he had just gotten out of schooling in mechanics when they had met him. Shippou…I'm not sure what his story is, he came on before me, either way he's really good at wiring things together.”
Rin stopped and sipped her tea. IY14 watched, and then mimicked actions. The hot liquid felt good going down his throat, which was a little sore. Rin continued her chattering, while he listened. It was strange in a way, sitting there listening to her ramble on and on, it seemed like a perfectly natural habit for him, even though he had never done it before.
“Miroku lost his arm when he contracted “Kazanaa,” it's a disease of the flesh eating bacteria family. Nasty stuff, basically it eats away at your skin cells. Though Kazaana is different in from the others, as it has this curious habit of always starting with the palm of the hand and spreading, and it tends to turn the skin black as it kills the cells. They named the disease after a curse a monk had. The monk basically had a black hole in his hand that he could use to suck up evil spirits. A fairy tale of course. Anyway, Miroku had to have his arm amputated to prevent the disease from spreading, fortunately they were able to fit him with an prosthetic arm, and he has use of his right hand, but he can't play the guitar anymore, metal still isn't as good a muscle, but it's better than nothing right?”
IY14 sipped his tea and nodded slowly, the kind of nod that showed he was listening, but in reality could only grasp the bare bones of what Rin was talking about.
“I'm sorry, I'm rambling again. I do that sometimes.” Rin blushed. “You're probably bored to death.”
IY14 shook his head. “I like your voice.” A faint, tired smile crossed his lips, it was little crooked as his lips were unused to forming such an expression, but it was there true and genuine.
Rin's blush deepened a little more at the compliment. “Well, um…lets see….Everyone on this ship may call me crazy, but I think Inuyasha and Kagome are meant for each other. They just mesh so well together even when they argue. I think once they realize how stupid they are being they'll get along. If they could behave toward each other the way they do towards their repair work, they would have an unbreakable bond. If only Inuyasha would stop giving Kagome such hard time about being fully human, and I wish Kagome would stop getting so flustered about it.”
Rin sipped her tea and continued. “It's amazing; Kagome is purely human. I mean Sango is a third cat, Shippou's a quarter Kitsune, and I'm pretty sure Miroku is part bird. It's pretty rare now to be pure of either race. I mean pure humans are really rare and there are no pure youkai left and…” She paused when it hit her that she was sitting next to a pure youkai. “Well…none left, except you…”
Rin looked over at IY14, who was now lying on the bed asleep. Fortunately his tea cup was empty. She giggled and took the cup, then laid the comforter over him. She gazed at his sleeping form for a moment and found she could not resist the urge to run her fingers through his silken, silvery hair.
She stopped when Kirara jumped up on to the bed and curled up next to IY14. Rin giggled again and took the cups to be washed, pausing at the door; she looked back at the cute sight of the youkai and the cat.
“Sweet dreams,” she whispered.
