It was a week now since Kaori brought Inuyasha to her sorry excuse for a home. During the day she would talk with him and help him improve his manners and reteach him basic things like using a toilet. It didn't take him long to learn that one thank god. At night she'd usually go out with her gang and fight with rival gangs, however Inuyasha wouldn't let her leave when she'd try while he was awake. He'd make whining noises and grab her foot and look at her with watery golden eyes. So, she waited until he was sound asleep before departing.
Her gang members noted that she was always late lately and how tired she looked, as she didn't get much sleep with her schedule. Reguardless, she'd won them over more territory, eliminated several gang threats, and even got some weapons made. She much preferred hand to hand combat, but not everyone agreed with her style of fighting, claiming it was much to dangerous.
She came home late one night to find Inuyasha sitting doggy style on the mattress as if he'd been waiting for her to come home. He looked at her sadly when she came in. She closed her eyes and cursed herself.
"I'm sorry I left Inuyasha."
Stare.
"Really I am. Don't look at me like that! I had to go, you know I can't stay here all the time. I'd take you with me, but... well... there are too many demon hunters out there and the humans wouldn't like you...."
Stare.
She sighed and walked over to him with her arm extended. He twitched slightly as she lowered her hand onto his head and began to pet him like a dog. She'd wondered what his hair would feel like and she loved how it felt. It was like velvet... or a soft material as such. He relaxed a bit and leaned his head towards her as a dog begging to be petted more.
She kneeled down and complied.
When her arm began to get tired she stopped.
"Get back to sleep now Inuyasha. I won't leave this time."
He looked disappointed that she stopped petting, but he laid down all the same. She took off her coat and laid down on the floor as she'd been doing all week. She was alseep nearly instantly because she was so fatigued. Inuyasha, however, had not gone to sleep that easily.
He could feel the air changing and realized it was now winter again. Ofcourse, that meant one thing: snow. And the sudden drop in temperature meant that it was on its way.
Sure enough, a flake danced its way into the room through a hole in the roof. Before long, more and more of these tiny little ice crystals fell and the room progressively got colder. Kaori was shivering under her little leather coat. Inuyasha got up and looked at her. He felt bad for her and carefully lifted her up and took her over to his mattress. He laid her down and covered her up and then laid close next to her to keep her warm.
MEANWHILE
Almost immediately after Inuyasha left her, Kagome looked into trying to get back to Fuedal Japan. She did not know how to locate him in the human world and thought he might try to go back to his own era. However she was wrong, her friends in the Fuedal Era hadn't seen Inuyasha since they left and she waited to see if they ever would.
In her fourth year of searching, she gave up hope for the Fuedal Era and began searching her own era, but was still unsuccessful. She then tried searching both Eras. In a moment of despiration she actually sought out Inuyasha's older brother Sesshomaru. He agreed to help, but he wouldn't guareentee he'd be alive when she saw him again.
In truth, it did worry him that his only living family member could be lost in an era full of killer humans. It wasn't so much he was worried for his brother... he just had not produced an heir to take over for him as of yet so his title would have to pass to his brother. If his brother was dead then there would be a huge war between the demons to determine who'd be the new Lord of The Western Lands. So he searched the Fuedal Era for Kagome to eliminate some of her trouble.
She came across Sesshomaru recently in modern times, only he was more human-like. His demon markings were not visible and his hair was cut short and his eyes were brown.
"Sesshomaru?"
"I believe I have located him. He was taken to the old Samurai Dojo in Kyoto."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, but I warn you... he is very weak, wounded, damaged, I'd even go as far as to say insane a bit."
"Oh no...."
"The girl who took him will not harm him. She actually helped him. She is a fifteen-year old street fighter who ran away from her last foster home... she seemed to have known Inuyasha."
Kagome nodded. "So he's in good hands? That's good to hear... I was so worried about him... I should send them something..."
"Another kimono would be wise. Winter is coming and his is barely more than shreds."
"Ok... Would you take it to them for me? I know he'll be able to smell me."
"Very well, but you'd best be thanking me. I have been on this silly search of yours for nearly 500 years."
"What? How is that possible?"
"You came to me 500 years ago and asked me to help. I have been helping ever since."
"But... he's only been missing for 10 years!"
"Kagome... you may be able to travel through time, but those of us in the fuedal era could not."
"Oh... right. Stay right here."
She ran inside and searched around for one of Inuyasha's spare kimono's that he left. When she found it she packed it up and wrote a note to the girl. She ran back outside to Sesshomaru.
"Here."
"Whatever."
He turned to leave.
"Sesshomaru?"
"Hm?"
"Thank you."
He became a ball of light and took off through the city.
Since then, Kagome had gone to the fuedal era to announce that he was found... and told Sesshomaru so he wouldn't keep searching anymore. When she returned, she bought some spray at a sporting goods store to mask her scent and went to check on him. She watched how he was upset that Kaori left, how she apologized and petted him and... how he got up and kept her warm. A tear filled her eye as she realized that he was going to fall in love with her. She could have had this... but she blew it. She realized now that she had always loved Inuyasha... she was just.... bored with him...
She turned away and left, whiping away a tear as she did.
