InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Ravished within Self-denial ❯ Avoiding the Inevitable ( Chapter 6 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

A/N: this is a narrative story, so the use of the word I may be author talking. Don't worry though; you'll be able to tell whose talking. Thoughts are in italics. This is a mixture of demons and humans - no danger here between the two species. This story starts as a high school setting (first chap only), but the rest is going to take place in University (studies after high school). This fic is going to progress slowly. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: All right reserved. I don't own Inu Yasha or any other characters, unless told otherwise. A few characters are created, but they don't hold much significance to the storyline.

Chapter 6: Avoiding the Inevitable

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Shutting her eyes tighter, she turned her head - away from the noise and then somehow, towards it. She reached blindly, trying to locate the source, but the sound faded as quickly as it came. Now she was somewhat awake and going back to sleep wasn't going to happen.

She moaned as she rolled over.

“Kagome?”

“Sango?”

“Hey. How are you feeling?”

Feeling? She thought, did something happen?

“Inu Yasha said you had quite a day; you were exhausted from all that moving and that you kind of fainted on him.” Sango bit her lip nervously. It wasn't that she didn't believe what happened, it was just hard to grasp the fact that two days in a row of outdoors had exhausted Kagome to cause her to lose conscious.

Of course! Last night's events came down crashing at her. She didn't know why her body gave up on her, but she did remember what happened before her brain shut down.

But smiling half-heartedly, she answered, “yeah. I think it was the heat. It's been too hot and I'm kind of not used to that kind of weather.”

Staring at her for a few moments, Sango gave in. “All right. If you wanna stay in today to rest, we can just hang out here and watch movies or something.”

“No! I'm fine now. I don't want to hold you guys back. It's okay. I can manage.”

But Sango knew better. When she first came into their suite last night, she was expecting Kagome asleep in her bed. As she reached her bedroom she realized that that was exactly the case, but Inu Yasha was there as well; leaning against the opposite wall, staring at her.

He didn't look up from her as he told Sango that she was worn out. And without saying a word, he got up and left the room. Sango sighed. It was obvious something happened - something that neither of them were willing to tell her.

Shaking her head, she disagreed, “No Kags, let's stay in today. Miro and I are pretty tired too. I'm sure those two would be okay with this!”

She didn't miss Kagome's eyes bulging out as she mentioned the boys, but she was quick to compose herself. She nodded and started for the bathroom. Sango just stared after her; if she knew her friend, she was sure she wasn't going to get any answers - at least not today.

***************

The two girls spent their morning doing random things: checking their e-mails, calling a few friends, painting each other's nails, trying new hairstyles and organizing their suitcases. They didn't unpack much ever since they came here, so today seemed like a good day if they were gonna last here two weeks without losing their stuff.

Sango was flipping through the channels when Inu Yasha showed up in the living room.

“Morning!”

“Morning? It's afternoon Inu Yasha!”

“Yeah, yeah. As long as you get the point.”

He then glanced at Kagome who was sitting on the floor staring at the T.V. as well. She didn't wanna run away from him - from what happened last night - but she didn't want to talk about it either. Feeling his eyes on him, she sighed inwardly and looked back at him. She expecting him to be glaring at her; instead, he smiled her favourite half-crooked smile and nodded at her. She was surprised. She somewhat smiled and then turned her attention back to the where it was.

“Is Miro ever gonna come out?”

“Chill Sango! If he wanted to run away from you, don't you think he would have done that by now?”

She frowned and threw a cushion at him. He caught it easily and threw it right back.

“He's showering after me. I beat him to it; not that that's questionable!” With that said, he seemed to flex out his arms to emphasis his point.

Sango rolled her eyes and Kagome `hmphed!'

He smirked back and went in the kitchen to make himself something to eat.

***************

It was past sunset now - around 9pm. The gang - well, mostly Inu Yasha and Kagome - ended up watching Spiderman III and 27 Dresses. By the end of it, Kagome and Inu Yasha were exhausted. Their two friends didn't stop making out for a second! And for some reason, they didn't even get a room!

“Argh! You guys killed the movies, man!”

“Well that's what you get for watching us instead of the movies, Inu Yasha!”

“Shut it Miro! As if you jumping down each other's throat had no addition to the audio of the movies!”

“They're called `sound effects' Inu Yasha.”

“Yes, and kissing sounds are exactly what we need when hearts are breaking,” spoke Kagome.

Sango piped up at that. Kagome hadn't said much all day. It was starting to worry her. Inu Yasha was quick to notice this as well.

“Common, what do you say we give these lovers a little room ourselves since they won't get one themselves! I'm just surprised they haven't taken their clothes off yet”

Miroku chuckled. “I'm not that indecent Inu Yasha.”

Unsurprisingly, everyone snorted.

“Hey! I'm wounded guys.”

“Yeah, yeah, Miro!” mumbled Inu Yasha.

He looked back at Kagome, signaling her to get moving, but she seemed hesitant. He knew she didn't want to replay last night's events, but at least she wasn't ignoring him.

Offering his hand to her, he spoke genuinely, “It's gonna be okay.”

Staring at his offer, she smiled as she accepted it. They each grabbed a Popsicle and headed for the balcony.

***************

“Seriously Kagome, my cat is better at eating that than you!”

“You have a cat?” She asked.

“No, but if I did, I know she'd have more manners eating ice-cream than you do.”

She snorted. “I'm eating it just fine. And besides what's the point of eating a Popsicle if you can't suck on it?”

He smiled. It wasn't what she was doing. It was how she was doing it. Her orange flavour was dripping all around her mouth as she enjoyed her ice-cream, not caring whatsoever.

He shook his head, picked up a tissue and passed it to her. She grinned wildly and dabbed her mouth.

“What? I have a small mouth and this frikin' thing won't fit as a whole.”

He laughed out loud. “Kagome, if you really had that small of a mouth, you wouldn't be talking half as much as you do.”

She frowned. During his laughter, he was slapped with a Popsicle stick at his right eye.

“Owe. What the hell?”

He looked over her, as he held his eye; her mouth was full of her leftover Popsicle as she glared at him. He figured she stuffed her mouth to free the stick in order to throw it at him. Suddenly he forgot all about his eye as he stared at her. Her face was too hilarious. That caused him to laugh even harder and her to glare more. Eventually she gave in and started laughing herself. The next thing she knew she was choking on her ice-cream.

Inu Yasha immediately stopped laughing and started patting her back with loud slaps. She eventually calm downed and took deep breaths.

“You can stop hitting my back now, Inu Yasha.”

“Hush wench, you'll choke yourself again.”

She glared at him, but didn't say anything; the last thing she wanted was to prove him right. After a few moments, his hand stilled but remained there.

“You okay, wench?”

“Yeah. I'm fine,” she chuckled.

“What's so funny?”

“It's nothing. Yesterday I faint on you and today I end up choking on ice cream.” She laughed. “Honestly, ice-cream?”

He smiled. She looked up at him and as their eyes met, she realized she brought on the topic she was avoiding all day: last night. It was then she noticed that she was kneeling on the floor with Inu Yasha right next to her. His knee was pressed against her thigh. His hand was still resting on her back. His proximity seemed to hurt her; she didn't quite understand why though.

“Inu Yasha-” she started.

“It's okay Kagome. You don't have to say anything. I kind of over- reacted last night. I know, though I don't regret it. What those guys did - or were thinking about doing - he had to compose himself as he inhaled sharply - was wrong. So I'm not sorry about that at all.”

“No, you're right. I don't know what came over me last night. I'm sorry.”

He nodded curtly.

“Inu Yasha, about the… I… it's just that-” she looked up at him as he stared at her. He knew where she was going with this.

He figured he'd stop her ranting, “Kagome, its okay. You don't have to say anything.”

“No, it's not that… Inu Yasha. You have to know this. I just… this… us … we can't happen. I'm sorry.”

He pressed his lips together as his gaze lingered on her lower head. He didn't know what it was about her, but it was pretty clear after last night that he was attracted towards her. The thought about anyone else touching her made his blood boil. He didn't know how far he was with this, but he knew he didn't want to take her out of his life. It wasn't like he planned for any of this to happen, but there was just something in her that drew him near her, ever since he first saw her. Maybe it her bitchiness - the fact that she wasn't going to give herself away for just a good fuck. He'd been doing a lot of thinking last night. Sure he dated many girls out there; hell, he was too good-looking even for his seniors to resist him - he knew that. Girls threw himself at him. But maybe that's what attracted him to her - her rejection. It appealed to him. It was like a game for him now - a game only because life, itself, was a game. And she wouldn't be a prize he'd win, but rather a reward he would earn. That was the difference between her and his previous whores.

All right, he thought. The harder she makes this the more I'm gonna have to work for it. And the more I work for it, the more I'll deserve her.

He smiled at her. “There is no we Kagome, so let's not worry about what will happen, all right? So for now, how about you and I get back on putting up with each other's nerves `cause lemme tell you that we're not gonna be seeing much of those two for the rest of our time here.”

She laughed a little and realized that maybe she jumped to conclusions too fast.

Just because he kissed me didn't mean he wanted me, right? Maybe he did that to shut me up! She thought. Give it up girl! There are tons of beautiful girls out there. Why would he wanna be with you in the first place?

And that question seemed to do the trick: the we was easily forgotten as she got up and waited for him.

“Inu Yasha?”

“Hmm?”

“Thank you, for last night - for everything that happened yesterday.”

He just smirked at her. “'Bout time wench!”

They headed for the living room and found it empty.

“Well, what do you know, now here's a surprise!” Kagome rolled her eyes, heavy on sarcasm.

“Hey, as long as it's not on my bed, I could care less.”

They chuckled and turned away.

“All right, I'm off to bed. It's pretty late and -”

“Scared babe? You know I don't mind if you'd wanna share the bed with me-”

“Inu Yasha!!” She hit him on the shoulder and crossed her arms under her chest. Raising her chin, she marched forward towards her room.

He chuckled as he caught up to her. Grabbing her arm just as she was about to disappear, he spun her around and pulled her against his chest.

“What? No bed time hug Kagome?”

“Inu Yasha!!!” She shrieked. “I'm so gonna castrate you if you don't take your hands off of me!”

“Must we come back to the castration?”

“Yes. And we'll keep coming at it if you keep this up. And trust me, I don't miss!”

He cocked an eyebrow at her as she shoved him backwards.

“Now go to bed!”

“Oh I'm going; you coming?”

“Arghh! I hate you!”

He laughed out loud. “G'nite wench!”

“Quit callin' me that!” She yelled as she shut the door in his face.

Chuckling, he headed for his room.

She smiled a little as she dug into her covers. Closing her eyes, she whispered, “Nite Yash!”

A/N: Woah! Can't even remember the last time I touched this! So much work; can't believe I put this off for this long! Anyhow, enjoy!
