InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Rebel Girl ❯ Out to eat ( Chapter 2 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
A/N This is probably the last chapter that The Exiled as a whole will show up. I want to keep this focused more on the main characters and leave the OCs behind. They might show up out of necessity once in awhile but that's about it.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any associated characters, nor do I own the rights to any of The Smiths songs.

They zipped through the streets, Kagome keeping an eye on her rearview mirror. It was a cool spring night and she was letting her arm hang out the open window. The cold air making it feel numb, which forced her to bring her arm inside and enjoy the tingling sensation as it warmed. The trees and bushes they zipped past were just begining to sprout flowers, a promise of warmer weather and life returning from the slumber winter had brought.

Kagome held out little hope for this season being any different from the rest. She was 17 and had yet to have a boyfriend. It wasn't due to lack of interest from guys, but her own refusals. She disliked the mindless dating that most people her age went through and would rather wait for a guy she could truly fall in love with than deal with the flavor of the month. She was much more comfortable in the role of reliable friend, always there to talk with and lend a neutral ear to situations. She rarely gave actual advice, instead she let people unload their problems onto her, never showing judgement over the situations. Part of it was her miko training and part of it was learning the hard way that people rarely wanted suggestions and what they really needed, but didn't know how to ask for, was a sounding board. It was hard sometimes, feeling as though she had to take all the worlds' pain into herself. Still, being a confidant did have its' positive side. Which brought her thoughts back to the two guys currently following her car.

"Spill it Sango." Kagome said as she reached toward the CD player to turn down the volume. Rocking out to loud music after a show was a lot of fun but not very good for conversation.

"And exactly what am I supposed to be spilling?" Out of the corner of her eye Kagome saw that Sango was wearing a smirk, but a slight blush was running up her cheeks.

"Sango, you are my oldest friend, I have seen you face down many a guy. I have never seen a guy actually manage to make you blush. So come on, what's the deal? You falling for this Miroku guy? Huh, huh?" Kagome said with a sarcastically girly note at the end.

Kagome and Sango were old friends and Kagome could tell right away when Sango was trying to hide something. Following the death of Sangos' family a few years back she had started to keep most of her feelings locked up inside, putting up a facade of happiness for the rest of the world to see. Despite that Kagome could always tell when there was something hiding behind her words, and with the blush Sango was making that even more obvious than usual.

"welllllll, maybe I think he's kinda cute, but Kag, he's such a pervert! How can I possibly keep my self-respect and still admit to liking a guy who acts that way? Sango was getting flustered.

"Hmm, that's true, but haven't you always said being true to yourself and your feelings is most important of all...?" Kagome flipped the turn single on to turn into the diner parking lot.

"Yeah, I guess that's true." Sango answered as she climbed out of the car. The guys walking up to them quickly put an end to that conversation.

Jumping around a bit and rubbing her arms Kagome urged them all inside. 'I love these shorts but maybe this wasn't the best time of year to pull them out.' Walking inside they headed to the back where the members of The Exiled were sitting at the long double booth.

Kagome slid into the booth next to Tako and the guitarist, Damien. Inuyasha sat down beside her, making a bit of a face while Sango and Miroku sat next to the drummer, Erik, and the bassist, Rin, the only girl in the band.

"Inuyasha, Miroku, this is The Exiled, Tako, Damien, Erik, and Rin." Kagome said, pointing to each in turn, "Exiled, meet Inuyasha and Miroku." A mumbled round of heys and what's ups followed.

As far as diners go the place was rather nondescript. It had a counter with stools by the kitchen, filled with the usual assortment of people you didn't want to sit to close too. The rest of the diner was filled with booths, some two person, some 4 person, and then the long booth at the back that contained The Exiled and their friends. Some bad music was playing quietly as a low mumur of conversation and clinking cups filled the diner. It had a faint '50's feel but that had more to do with slow renovations then any sort of planned design.

The waitress walking up to the group took them all in "Let me guess, you all want coffee?" It was answered with a few enthusiastic yeses and a rather subdued "yeah" coming from Inuyasha. "You ordering any food tonight?" The lack of offer of menus acknowledging the fact that they frequented the diner often and had worked past any niceties usually afforded customers. The guys and Rin all ordered something while Kagome and Sango, still full from the pizza they ate during the show, just got a plate of cheese fries to split.

Once the waitress returned with the coffee the group became more animated, significantly raising the volume of the diner. "You guys fuckin rocked tonight!" Kagome practically squealed, looking across the table at Rin.

"Damn woman, want to go for a higher pitch?" Inuyasha scowled towards Kagome.

"I thought I told you not to call me woman? And these are my friends and I'm excited that they rocked so hard which means I can be as loud as I want to." She emphasised her point by sticking her tongue out at him.

"So," Miroku broke in smoothly, already seeing that the current conversation was going nowhere, "how long have you all been playing together?"

"About six months now" Rin answered for the group. "We just finished recording our first full length, if you guys want you can have a copy when its' finally released. Any friend of Kag is a friend of mine and all that."

"That would be cool, you have a good sound." Miroku was just glad that he had managed to head off the Inuyasha and Kagome argument he had felt brewing. 'Those two are either going to fall in love or kill each other. Good thing it will be interesting either way.'

Just then the air was pierced with a yell of pervert and a hand slapping Mirokus' face.

"Asshole!" Sango yelled, but she was unable to move with Rin on one side and Miroku on the other. Rin was a close friend of Sango and Kagome and had caught the conspiratorial glint in Kagomes' eye when Rin had started to get up to let Sango move.

The waitress arrived then with the food and inbetween eating the conversation was filled with the gentle and not so gentle ribbing found among friends. Kagome made it a point to keep the conversation away from inside jokes the old friends all shared, she didn't want Miroku or Inuyasha to feel left out. In the middle of calling Rin a fetus for being the youngest of the group by a year Kagome reached her hand out for the ketchup and realized it was clasped over Inuyashas' who had also been grabbing for the bottle. A slow blush ran up Kagomes' face as she pulled her hand away. Inuyasha just muttered "Keh" under his breath, though the twitching of his ears gave away his own embarrassment.

Still chatting while drinking their 3rd and 4th cups of coffee a sudden silence fell over Rin's side of the table, except for Miroku who had no clue what was going on. At the looks on her friends' faces Kagome turned around and saw Naraku walking in with his band and heading towards their table. She quickly looked away already knowing that Naraku was a hanyou and wanting to avoid the disaster that would result from a fight here.

Naraku came to their table and put his fists on the edge, leaning over Inuyasha to get right in Kagomes' face. Inuyasha could smell the fear and anger coming off of her but was suprised to see that she didn't shrink back from Naraku. Having no clue what was playing out in front of him all he could do was watch.

"Hey Kagome, how's your face feel?" Naraku uttered with contempt dripping from each word.

"Listen you fucker, I don't know what I ever did to you to make you hate me this much, but the way you're acting is total bullshit. Leave me the hell alone." Despite her fear Kagomes' words came out with an icy confidence. She wasn't going to just allow herself to be pushed around by this moron.

"Oh it's nothing you did to me, its' what I'm going to do to you" hearing the venom in Narakus' voice Kagome shrunk back a bit, no longer able to contain the fear within her.

Inuyasha chose that point to reach out for his coffee causing the cup of hot liquid to spill on Naraku. "Oops"

Without flinching, Naraku turned his glare onto Inuyasha. "Who the hell are you?"

"The name's Inuyasha and I heard Kagome ask you to leave her alone. So why don't you back away little boy and go drink your milk." Scorn dripping from his voice. He could smell that Naraku was another hanyou and he was itching for a fight. Especially a fight with someone who would threaten a person for no reason. He couldn't stand those who went after people weaker than themselves, and it seemed Naraku was exactly that type.

At the sound of her name Kagome had snapped her gaze towards Inuyasha, 'No woman?'. 'Argh, can't think about that now Kagome, how the hell am I going to stop this?' As those thoughts were running through her head Naraku turned towards her and spit.

Inuyasha jumped out of the booth so quickly that no one actually saw him move, besides Naraku who stepped back out of his way. The rest of the booth followed quickly, grabbing onto Inuyasha and trying to pull him back. He could have gotten away from them easily but he had enough awareness of his actions that he knew he would hurt his friends doing so. He allowed them to pull him back as Naraku just laughed.

"I'm sure I'll see you both again soon." The threat strong within Narakus' voice.

"I'll fucking throw a party when you do, to celebrate me kicking your sorry ass" Inuyasha yelled back as they moved towards the door.

Once in the parking lot Kagome and Miroku tried to calm the still agitated hanyou down. "What the fuck is that guys' problem?" Inuyasha asked Kagome. He was pacing back and forth among the cars, his ears going between twitching and laying flat against his head.

"I wish I knew..." Kagome said as she launched into the story of her first meeting with Naraku. When she finished telling the guys the short story Inuyasha had come to a halt infront of her.

"He did what?! Damn, he really is an asshole." Hearing of how Naraku treated Kagome just riled up Inuyasha more.

"Look, we should probably be going before they head out." Miroku had no desire to end up in a fight right then. "It's certainly been interesting, any chance we'll see you girls around again?"

Cracking a small smile at the thought of the pervert still trying for their numbers despite the events of the night, Sango answered "Well, any chance you can learn to keep your hands to yourself?"

"With such beauty around me? Guess you'll just have to see if I'm up to it." Sango could definitely see a smile dancing around Mirokus' mouth as he tried to keep the words serious.

They exchanged numbers and each group headed off to their own cars. After the night they had Miroku was in no mood to listen to anything loud or angry. Sorting through Inuyashas' CDs he pulled out a Smiths' album. Soon the quiet song was floating through the car.

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way ?
I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

I am the son
And the heir
Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
I am the son and heir
Oh, of nothing in particular

You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way ?
I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home, and you cry
And you want to die

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
Well, when exactly do you mean ?
See I've already waited too long
And all my hope is gone

You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way ?
I am Human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

Inuyasha just snickered quietly, thinking of the irony those lyrics represented for himself.
