InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Rebel Girl ❯ Rebel Girl ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
A/N Before starting I want to point out this is an AU story, very AU. My ultimate goal is to change the way that the characters might speak but to keep their core personalities intact. This means Inuyasha will still be an abrasive ass up front but care for Kagome and his friends deep down, and while I might have Kagome put up a bit of a front she will still be easily recgonizable as a kind and loving person. I want it clear that their is no mary sue here. The only personal parts are what I've taken from how the local punk scene was while I was in high school.
This is also my first fanfic, so I happily welcome reviews and constructive criticism. I love reading AU's so this is my go at writing one of my own. I hope it turns out as well on paper as it is floating around in my head.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any associated characters, be pretty sweet if I did though. I also don't have the rights to any Ramones or Bikini Kill songs.

P.S. apologies ahead of time for the lyrics. It's been a looong time since I wrote any and definitely feeling a bit of writers' block.
*****************************

It took a moment for Kagomes' eyes to adjust as she entered the dark bar from the bright sunlight outside. It was a sunday afternoon and the bar, unable to sell alcohol, had opened it's doors to local punk bands for an all ages show. Her friends' band was playing there and she had come out to support them as always. They were a good band and she had been friends with the singer since they were in pre-school.

As her eyes adjusted she took in the worn woodwork of the bar. It reminded her of what her friends always referred to as an "old man bar", the kind where you didn't see many college kids, mostly people coming to drown their sorrows after work. 'It's probably a sad place at night' she noted as she saw the poster on the wall listing the mostly blues bands who played during the week. Turning to her friend Sango she motioned for her to follow up front. Kagome wanted to make sure her friends knew that she was here and would be in the audience. Not that there was much of a chance of them missing her. The bar had just started to put on shows on Sunday, there couldn't be more than 50 people in the entire place and she didn't expect the numbers to grow much.

"Hey! Kagome, awesome you made it!"

"Hey Tako, when you guys playing?" Kagome asked, nodding towards the other bands hanging around the small stage set up at the back of the bar.

"We should be up right in the middle, third or fourth I think. Pretty sweet spot, should still have most of the crowd around."

It wasn't uncommon for people to wander in and out as the night went on. At this level of the punk scene friends and fans were one in the same. If you were friends with the band you came to support them as a fan and if you were a fan it was a good chance you would make friends with the band. Kagome was a bit of an exception, even if she came only to see her friends play she would stay around to watch the other bands, she always felt a tad guilty if she left early.

"I'm gonna go grab a coke, you guys need anything?" Hoisting his water bottle Tako showed Kagome they were all set. "Okay, see you guys in a bit."

Linking arms with Sango, Kagome turned them and they started heading towards the bar, chatting over the bands that were playing and keeping a lookout for any cute guys that might be around.

Leaning back on the bar as she waited for her drink Kagome was the first too see the two guys walking up the stairs. 'Holy shit! He's gorgeous' was all she could think. She nudged her elbow into Sangos' side and with a slight nod of her head pointed out the two guys who had just entered.

"Damn Kagome, good job spotting those two."

The guy who had first caught her attention had long silver hair falling down his back and the most soul searching golden eyes she had ever seen. She also caught sight of two small dog ears on the top of his head, 'hmmm, hanyou or youkai, I wonder which?' He was wearing a jean jacket covered in patches and buttons, a faded Dropkick Murphys shirt underneath that was obviously being held together with just safety pins and a pair of plaid bondage pants with some sort of military boots. All together making a very yummy picture. She had always had a thing for guys with long hair.

She turned to look at his friend and noticed him rubbing his chin where a very obvious black and blue was forming. He wasn't bad looking himself, dark shorter hair that had a single small braid in the front with each strand dyed a different color. A black and purple t-shirt and faded and torn black jeans with the requisite combat boots completed his look.

Kagome wasn't looking to bad herself. Long dark hair and beautiful brown eyes with just a hint of green. She was wearing a Vandals shirt with a zip hoodie covered with patches and buttons, some of bands and some of slogans. Despite the cool spring weather she had put on a pair of cut off tight fitting green camos. They hugged her nicely through her hips and then fell loose towards her knees. In deference to the cold she had put on black fishnets and her 20 hole Docs. She'd often waste time in class by unlacing and lacing her boots.

Sango had gone for a more risque look today, her dark hair pulled back into a ponytail, she was wearing a tight black and maroon striped shirt with a corset over it. She had on a pair of loose fitting black pants and her own, shorter, docs. Kagome and Sango often wrote on Sangos' shoes with whiteout while in class, so they were covered in random phrases that made little sense to anyone but the two old friends.

"I wonder who they are?" Kagome whispered to Sango. They girls were both regulars at many of the local shows but had never seen these two guys around before. Almost everyone else at the show they could place by sight if not by name.

"I don't know, but looks like they've noticed us..." Sango whispered back, letting her sentence trail off as the two boys started walking over.

"Hey there, who you two here to see?" The guy with the dark hair asked.

"We're friends with The Exiled, but here to see everyone as long as they're decent." Sango answered for them both.

"So who are you guys here to see? Haven't seen you around at the garage or VA shows." Kagome was trying to pry without looking like she was trying to pry, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

"We're new to the area, just got an apartment a couple of towns over. Not really here to see any specific band, just saw a flyer and decided to check out the local scene. So what's your name woman?" The silver haired guy asked looking pointedly at Kagome.

"Woman? Did you just call me Woman?! No, no no" shaking her head "my name is Kagome, Ka-go-me, I don't answer to woman. This is my friend Sango."

"Keh, whatever woman. I'm Inuyasha and this guy here is Miroku."

"Umm, I was wondering, what happened to your jaw Miroku?" Sango asked quickly, looking at the now bright purple bruise on Mirokus' cheek. She knew how Kagome could get when she thought a guy was being an ass.

"Oh yeah, that, well, it's kinda a long story..."

"He made out with my bitch of an ex, well now ex." Inuyasha answered.

"So you punched him?" Kagome asked incredusouly.

"Yeah, makes us even. He fucked around with my ex, I punched him for it, it's all forgotten now. Hell, he's the one who told me too." Inuyasha couldn't help rolling his eyes at the girl. 'Girls always make shit like this to damn complicated' he thought.

Before Kagome had a chance to voice her thoughts on that solution the first band started and talking was a thing of the past. They band was pretty good and the crowd was getting into it. Kagome and Sango noticed that it looked like a mosh pit was starting. With unspoken agreement the girls both surged foward to join in the fun. Sango tended to fair better in pits than Kagome. Kagome just wasn't built for it, tending towards the slight side. Sango had a more athletic build due to her Tae Kwon Do practice and could push the guys with just her arms. Kagome usually had to go for the whole body jump knowing she would be sore as hell the next day, it was still to much fun to pass up.

It was hard to pick out anyone specifically within the pit, especially while flying around herself, but Kagome was pretty positive that she saw Inuyashas' hair floating around in there somewhere. 'Why'd he have to call me woman? Sexist jerk.' Kagome noticed a girl she had seen around shows with who she assumed was the girls' boyfriend. The girl had climbed onto her boyfriends back and they were spinning around in the pit. 'Damn, that looks like fun. Wish I had someone to do that with.' It was at that moment that she saw Sango climbing up on Mirokus' back and joining in. Kagome let a small sigh out, 'Well, maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask.'

Inuyasha had been having a great time in the pit. Being a hanyou he never had to worry about being sore just from people jumping into him. He did make sure to tone down his own hits though, but he had so much practice in pits that it came almost naturally now. Seeing Kagome in the pit with Sango reminded him that he should probably be a bit more careful if he got near her. 'What the fuck, why the hell am I worrying about hurting that woman? She's in the pit, she knows what that means' he thought as he saw her go flying into a wall of people who pushed her back inside the circle.

Kagome stepped back from the pit and looked around for Inuyasha. She spotted him a bit over to the side of the pit opposite from herself. Making her way over she swallowed once or twice to get up the courage to ask. Kagome wasn't normally this outgoing with guys she barely knew, in fact she tended to be on the shy side. Tapping him on the shoulder she pointed towards Miroku and Sango and the random girl and her boyfriend. Then, trying her hardest not to blush and failing miserably she point to Inuyasha then herself. Inuyasha just shrugged, turned his back to Kagome, and bent down a bit so she could jump on.

'Oh my gods, this is so much fun!' Kagome thought as Inuyasha rushed into the pit to join with the others. They spun around and around, running into people as Kagome held onto Inuyasha for dear life and he gripped her legs tightly. One definite advantage to this band was they didn't talk much between songs but went straight from one to the next. When they finished their set and the next band began to set up Inuyasha moved off to the side and stooped down a bit to let Kagome slide off his back, but not before she made a grab for his ears, they were just to irresistible.

"Keh, woman, don't touch those."

"Thought I told you not to call me woman?"

All Kagome got in answer was a roll of Inuyashas' eyes as he walked over towards where Miroku and Sango were standing.

"What the fuck! I was having a good time 'till you went and grabbed my ass." Sango was yelling loud enough to attract the attention of everyone there, while Miroku just had a hurt look on his face and was now holding the opposite side of his face to the one with the bruise.

'Oh shit' was all the ran through Inuyashas' mind. Was Miroku being a lecher already? He had told the monk to leave that behind when they moved. It looks like some shit never changes.

Kagome ran up to her friend and shot an evil look at Miroku and Inuyasha before leading Sango away. She knew her friend was now itching for a fight and would rather avoid that mess. It was to much of a pain if the cops had to be called, Kagome had seen it before and always tried to avoid that part. Plus the next band up was Narakus' and after the last show she had no intention of staying around to watch them.

**********flashback************

Kagome was standing outside of the pit, still tired from the one she had been in earlier. The band playing was new but decent, though she had heard rumors that the lead singer was someone to avoid. Still, she tried to never judge a person before getting to know them and was giving the band a chance.

In the middle of their third song the singer jumped down for the short stage to stand in with the crowd. He walked over to where Kagome was standing on the side and nodding along to the beat. With absolutely no warning he had put his hand up and punched her in the face. Not a smart move. Kagome had enough friends who were at the show, and enough people who wouldn't put up with anyone getting punched for no reason that it wasn't long before a fight broke out.

The police showed up quickly, everyone ran for it, and another VA hall was added to the list of places that probably wouldn't allow anymore shows.

*************present***************

There was a pizza place right next to the bar that Kagome and Sango ducked into. If they were taking a break from the show they might as well refuel before The Exiled came on.

"So what happened in there Sango, you looked pissed!"

"Okay, I'm sure you saw the guy and girl out in the pit right?" Kagome nodded her answer "Well, I thought it looked like fun so I went over and asked Miroku if he'd like to join in. He grabbed my ass to hold me up but I didn't really think much of it. I mean, seemed a good place to hold and he didn't do anything else. So anyways.... after the band stopped I jumped off his back and was standing next to him looking for you when he just reached out and grabbed me! What the hell! That's just insane, you can't just go around grabbing a person like that. So I turned and smacked him on the face, which I believe you saw the result of."

"Yeah, and I heard the result too, you were pissed" Kagome answered, trying hard not to laugh. It wasn't that she didn't feel bad for her friend, but her reaction was so over the top that Kagome couldn't help herself. "So, you think he's cute huh? No denying it Sango, I know you and while I know you don't take shit from anyone you've gotta admit you over reacted just a tad on this one."

"Yeah well... Anyway, let's get back, it's quiet again which means Naraku should be done and The Exiled will be setting up."

Kagome noticed the quick change of subject but decided to let it drop for now. She didn't want to miss seeing her friends play and she knew she could tease Sango later.

The girls walked back over to the bar, their eyes having to adjust to the darkness inside once again. Kagome noticed right away that Inuyasha and Miroku were still there. Miroku was sporting a red mark that Sango had left him and the bruise from Inuyashas' fist. They two guys spotted the girls as they entered and made their way over to them.

"Sorry about earlier Sango, I just can't seem to keep my hands to myself when around such a gorgeous woman." Miroku said as way of an apology.

"Yeah, well, you had better learn how quickly or you are going to end up with a very sore face." Sango was apparently calmed down enough to forgive, though Kagome doubted forgetting would be coming along anytime soon.

Before anyone could say anything else The Exiled launched into their first song.

Standing by yourself/ surrounded by a crowd/ always sticking out/ not ever fitting in/ it ain't a fucking choice/ it's just the life we live.

those few who stand beside you/ the ones you call your own/ reach out to them/ draw strength from them/ fucking get in the pit.

beat them down/ jump in the air/ you're a fucking punk/ what do you care?

Kagome had grabbed Sango and jumped into the pit as soon as the song started. She was happy in the pit, there was no thinking involved, all she had to do was jump and push and let the music flow through her. Some people went to clubs with pounding techno music and swayed to that and some people jumped in pits and got the shit beat out of them and tried to return the same. Kagome fit the latter group.

As soon as the song ended The Exiled launched right into a cover of one of Kagomes' favorite songs, by The Ramones. It was perfect to keep the pit going and make it even more intense

Kagome noticed Inuyasha in front of her and before she could get pushed again she jumped on his back and locked her arms around him. Inuyasha was momentarily surprised until he recogonized Kagomes' scent and grabbed her legs to help her hang on. They flew around the pit together screaming out the lyrics and forgetting everything except the moment and staying upright.

After The Exiled ended their set and Kagome finished screaming and cat-calling them she moved back towards the actual bar where Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku were standing, with Miroku holding his cheek once again. Kagome only had to look at Sangos' face to see what happened.

"Well guys, two more bands then we are heading out." Kagome said to the small group. "How old are you guys anyway?"

"Oh, we're both 17, seniors in high school." Miroku answered.

"And you have your own apartment?! How's that work?" Sango could have sworn they were at least 18 or 19.

"Long story" Was all the answer Inuyasha would give. Miroku looked at his friend and just shrugged his shoulders.

The next band started up and they all headed back to the stage, moshing their way through the next two bands. By the time the last band finished up it was getting dark and the kids were getting kicked out. It was almost time to let the regular patrons in and all those underage had to leave.

Kagome wandered outside and spotted her friends from The Exiled. "Hey, Tako, you guys going to the diner?"

"Yeah, meet you there?"

"Sounds cool, see ya in a bit. Make sure to get the long booth!"

Turning back towards Inuyasha and Miroku, "You guys want to come to the diner with us? The food sucks but the coffee is good." Kagome asked.

"Sure sounds good" was Mirokus' answer "We don't know the area really well though, can we follow you?"

"Yeah, I'm parked over there" Kagome pointed at a parking lot a bit down the street.

"Good, we're parked in that lot also."

The teens made their way to the cars, Kagome and Sango getting into Kagomes' beat up Nissan Stanza, and Inuyasha and Miroku climbing into Inuyashas' Monte Carlo.

Driving out of the parking lot and heading towards the diner, Kagome and Sango were still riding their high from the show. Kagome opened the windows to the cool spring night and cranked the music, singing with Sango to some pumped up riot grrl.

That girl thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood
She’s got the hottest trike in town
That girl she holds her head up so high
I think I wanna be her bestfriend

Rebel girl, rebel girl
Rebel girl you are the queen of my world
Rebel girl, rebel girl
I think I wanna take you home
I wanna try on your clothes too

When she talks, the revolutions coming
In her hips, there’s revolution
When she talks, I hear the revolution
In her kiss, I taste the revolution

Rebel girl, rebel girl
Rebel girl you are the queen of my world
Rebel girl, rebel girl
I think I wanna take you home
I wanna try on your clothes too

That girl thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood
I got news for you, she is!
They say she’s a slut, but I know
She is my bestfriend

Rebel girl, rebel girl, rebel girl
