Chapter 3 Heartache
Kagome told Joseph that they were on their way back. “Mom why don't you call Uncle Sess. He needs to know.” “ I will, but not here, I will call him when we get home tonight.” replied Kagome. “ok, but do you think that is a good idea. You know how he can be, not liking being the last to know anything.” asked Seph. “Yeah, I know. I want to talk with him in private, not on the phone. I just hope Rin isn't there. She has always been jealous of me. I don't understand that; Maru (Sesshomaru) is like my big brother.” Joseph nodded and let silent fill the room.
Flash Back
Kagome and Sango was sitting on the beach watching the sunset. “Hey Sango when are the guys going to be back?” “I don't know, they were going to pick up Sesshomaru and Rin and then go by and get Pizza. Why?” Sango Replied “Just wondering. What do you think of Inuyasha? He's very cute, but loud.” Sango smirked at Kagome's light tone. “Well, I haven't known him for very long, but he seems down to earth and I know his parents have money. Besides that he is very Sexy.” giggled Sango. “Sango you know I don't care about money. I know it seems strange to some people but I want to find someone who can look past material possessions and see the beauty in life.” mused Kags.
End Flash Back
Sango opened the door to the consultation room followed by Josh. “Hey Kags, has the Doctor came by yet?” she asked. “Yes, we were waiting for you two before we went to see..........” tears spilling down her face while she was trying to choke back a sob. Joseph leaned over his chair to encircle her in a hug as Joshua came up behind her and mimicked his move. “Mom, lets go see Dad.” Joseph stated. Rising from his chair, both boys helped their Mom to stand and walked out into the hallway.
“Miss, can you tell us were to find Dr. Leon. Inuyasha's family is ready to see him.” asked Sango. Celina looked up from her charts and looked over to the small huddle, two teen boys encircling their crying mother a trail of silent tears streaming down their faces. “I'll call him, he should still be on this floor.” replied Celina. Over the loud speaker you could hear: Dr. Leon report to the ER; Dr. Leon report to the ER. Within minutes Dr. Leon turned the corner to see them standing in the hall. “Ms. Gates are you ready?” asked the Doc. “Yes” was her only answer. They went down several hallways until he stopped out side a plain white door. “If you need anything, I will be in the room across from this. Take your time.” stated the Doc in a hushed whisper.
“Thank you, I'll let you know if they need anything.” answered Sango. Joseph pushed open the door. In the middle of the room was a regular hospital bed. The person in the bed only seemed to be sleeping. They walked forward as Sango stood just outside. Sango let the door close she laid her head against it, letting silent tears finally escape. Taking out her phone she dial Miroku. “Hello sweetie, couldn't wait to hear my voice.” was the greeting she received. “Roku, were are you?” she asked. “Sango whats wrong?” “There was a wreck, Inu.......didn't.......” cried Sango trying her best not to sob. “Sango were are you?” was his frantic question. “Mercy hospital, please hurry.” with that the phone went silent. Sango pushed herself up and walked quietly into the room.
Joseph, Kagome, Joshua made their way to the bed. He looks like he is just sleeping mused Kagome. She looked at his closed eyes and touched his cheek. Inu please wake up was her silent chant. She shook her head and turned to look at her sons they were standing back eyes downcast not wanting to see their hero like this. “Hey” Kagome whispered. They looked up and she tried to force a small smile on her face. “He looks so peaceful, like he is just asleep.” whispered Joshua. “But he's not.” answered Joseph. Kagome turned once again to her soul mate. “I'll never see your beautiful dark eyes open again will I; never to get lost in them; never run my fingers though your jet black hair; never hear your voice; never feel your touch; never anticipate your coming home. Inuyasha WHY.” was her inward thoughts. “Mom do we have to stay, can we go out in the hall with Aunt Sango?” asked Joshua. Joseph looked at his with resentment in his eyes. He would leave Mom in here by herself; we just lost our Dad and all he wants to do is run. His train of thought was cut short by Kagomes soft voice. “Sango could you please take the boys to the waiting room, I'll be there in a minute.” Sango didn't know what to say. She just turned and opened the door. Joseph stared at his Mom. Does she really want us to leave. He's our Dad we should stay with her. Josh pulled on Sephs arm. “Come on Seph, let Mom have sometime with Dad alone.” When the door closed Kagome looked out the window her only thought WHY...............
When they found the waiting room Joseph could not sit down he was pacing up and down the hall. “Seph, please come and sit down.” pleaded Sango. “NO, we should be with Mom.” spat Joseph. “Joseph Lee Gates, Mom needs some time to say good bye, give her that.” was Joshua's surprising reply. Seph just stared at him surprise running through his mind. Josh was never one to talk that way to him. Joseph reluctantly sat down, but kept looking down the hall waiting for their Mom.
Kagome kissed each of Inuyasha's eyes and his lips. I will see you again my love wait for me. She slowly made her way down to the waiting room. Joseph lept from his chair when he seen her. “Are you ok?” was his question. “No son I'm not, but its time you and Josh to say your goodbyes, I'll wait in the hall if you need me.” answered Kagome. The boys were only in the room for 15 minutes neither of them said anything just looked and prayed that their Dad would open his eyes. When they stepped back into the hall Kagome and Sango was there to hug and support them. “Lets go home” whispered Kagome. “Mom can Aunt Sango take me to Vickie's house, I don't want to be at home right know, please Mom.” pleaded Josh. Kagome didn't know what to say. “Ok, but you have to be home by 10pm. I have a lot to do, so it will be ok.” Kagome answered. “Mom do you need me to come home with you?” asked Seph. “Do you want to come home or do you want to go some were else.” was her question. “If you don't need me and Aunt Sango doesn't mind can I stay with her. I don't want to go home yet either, I will see him everywhere.” pleaded Seph. Kagome turned to Sango with dule eyes. “do you mind?” “Not at all, I will drop off Josh and Seph can stay with Miroku, then I can come by your house to help you.” replied Sango. “Sango, if you don't mind, I do need sometime alone; then I'm going to call Maru to see if he can come over. I need to find a funeral home and to see if he knows where yasha kept his life insurance.” “Ok, just call me and I will be right there.” said Sango. “Could you make sure the boys are home by 10pm” asked Kagome. “Ok, we'll be there then” with a quick hug they were gone.
Kagome stood in the hallway looking at the plain white door not knowing what to do or where to go. She had a lot to do and a lot of people to call but at that moment it was like her mind went numb. Celina was walking down the hall taking some charts to the nurses station when she seen Kagome standing in the hall. “Ms. Gates are you ok, do you need me to call someone?” “No, I'm going to call a friend to come and pick me up.” With that said Kagome turned and walked down the hall towards the ER exit. Once outside she took her phone out of her pocket and dial a number. “Hey Gome, how are you today.” “Maur” whispered Kagome. “Kagome, whats wrong?” asked Sesshomaru. “Can you come and pick me up at Mercy hospital. I will be in the ER parking lot.” Kagome asked. “Mercy hospital, Kagome whats wrong?” Sesshomaru asked again. “Please just come and pick me up, I'll explain when you get here.” pleaded Kagome. “I'll be there shortly, I'm only 5 blocks away.” stated Sesshomaru. With that said Kagome hung up her phone. Sesshomaru pulled into the parking lot to see Kagome leaning up against the hospital. Putting his car in park he raced across the parking lot to her side. “Gome what happened?” he asked. Kagome looked up to see Sesshomaru standing in front of her with pleading eyes. “Maru.....” she cried and lept into his arms. Hugging her tight he asked again what was wrong. “Just take me home please....” she begged. Lifting her chin he asked again what was wrong. “Maru...Yasha was in an accident. H-he didn't make.....” she cried. Sesshomaru was struck silent. What did she just say. That can't be right, I talked with him before lunch. Coming out of his trance by Kagomes cries he tighten his hold on her. “Please Maru......take me home....” she pleaded.
Walking her to his car he opened her door and she slide in. “Kagome do you want me to take you home or do you want to come over to my home?” he asked. “No, I want to go home, I have a lot to do and I need your help if you don't mind.” was her hiccuped reply. Putting his car in drive he made his way through rush hour traffic. Afraid to break the tender silence, Sesshomaru just waited until she decided to talk. “The boys are with Sango, she is going to bring them home before 10 tonight.” Kags whispered. “I want to try to have all the phone calls made by then so I can comfort my sons.” “Who do you need to call. I can help with that at least.” Maru replied. “I need you to find a funeral home and do you have Yasha's life insurance papers at your office?” Kags whispered. “Gome, you should have the originals at home, all I have are copies.” “Yasha's always took care of that, I'll look in his office after I call everyone.” replied Kags. “Who do you need to call? I can call our friends, I have most of their numbers in my phone.” Maru offered. “Ok, thank you Maru. But I don't want to keep you to long Rin will be wondering were you are.” Kags answered. “She won't care were I'm at. She's out shopping with Kagura. Isabella is at my Mothers until college break is over so the house is usually empty.” stated Sesshomaru with a little bitterness in his voice. “Maru, please.” “I'm sorry Gome” Just like me to be selfish, Gome just lost Yasha and all I can do is complain about Rin never being home. Mused Sesshomaru.
