Chapter 4
Arrangements
The evening went by swiftly, Sesshomaru and Kagome had made all the necessary calls and found his life insurance paper and a funeral home. Miroku and Sango had brought the boys home at 10 pm. They didn't stay to long, seeing that the family needed time alone. Sesshomaru left shortly after the boys went to bed, not wanting to leave until he was sure they would be ok. He had offered to stay with them but Kagome insisted that he needed to go home.
The first rays of morning came all to soon, Joshua moaned and tried to shield his eyes from the unwanted disturbance. Joseph was already up talking on the phone to Sango. They were to be at the funeral home at 10 am. He had asked Sango to meet them there and was giving her directions. Kagome had not slept. She was standing at the window staring out at the sunrise. Josh knocked on the door before walking in. “Mom, did you try to sleep?” Looking at the neatly made bed, not even a wrinkle was showing. “I couldn't son, this room feels empty.” she whispered. “I know, but you need some rest.” he stated. Seph walked in and informed them that Miroku and Sango would meet them later that morning.
“Gramps and Gram (Kags parents) will be here today, we need to make sure the guest room is cleaned up and ready for them.” Kagome mused. They were sitting at the kitchen table trying to eat a lite breakfast. “Don't worry Gram will clean it again anyways.” mused Josh. “Yeah, it doesn't matter if we wipe away every speck of dust, she always wants to clean it again.” laughed Seph. Kagome smiled. She loved her parents, but on somethings they were tiring. Gram was a clean freak, a room was never clean enough according to her point of view. “It will be good to see them again, they live to far away.” she whispered.
The funeral arrangements went smoothly. It was going to be a small funeral family and close friends only. Sesshomaru, Rin, Miroku, and Sango met them there. Sesshomaru offered to buy everyone lunch. They were now sitting around the table reflecting about the past. “I remember the day Inu asked you to marry him. He was soooo nervous, I didn't think he would ever get the courage up.” laughed Miroku.
Flashback
Inuyasha, Kagome, Miroku, and Sango all sat on the beach watching the sunset. Inuyasha had planned a romantic evening, but it had been canceled due to a fire at the restaurant. Kagome asked to go to the beach, she loved to watch the sunset. Miroku asked Sango if she wanted to take a stroll down the beach, giving her a knowing wink. Inu and Kags watched them walk away. Inu was fumbling with his bag looking for something. “Kagome tonight didn't go as I had planned it. I'm sorry we didn't get to go to the new restaurant.” “Its ok Yasha, I would rather sit here on the beach with you, than in a restaurant. You know I love the beach.” “ Yeah I know, Kags I want to ask you something, what are your plans for the future.” asked Inu. “Well, I was planning on going to college at Arizona Tech. I just hope I can get the scholarship.” “Ok, but what do you see happening to us.” asked Inu. “Why, is something wrong Yasha.” “No, quite the opposite. I just want to know if you see me in your future.” “Yasha, I can't see a future without you in it. I Love You” smiled Kagome. “Ok then.” Inuyasha took Kagomes hand the looked into her deep blue eyes. “Miss Kagome Ann Perry would you do me the honor of becoming my wife.” whispered Inuyasha as he slipped a ring on her finger. Kagome was shocked she couldn't form words, her mind was blank. What did he just say? Kagome looked into his soft, dark eyes. At first he thought she was going to say no. Not being able to read her eyes. She just sat there with a blank look on her face. Kagome looked down at her left hand that he was still holding, seeing the engagement ring. She looked up and Yasha saw tears forming at the edges of her eyes. He almost missed her whispered answer. “yes, with all my heart, yes.” Kagome flung herself into his arms and knocked them both down into the sand. It took him a few seconds to comprehend that she said yes. When he did he laughed and hugged her. When they sat back up Kagome looked up to see the most beautiful full red moon she has ever seen.
End Flashback
Silence overcame the table. Rin stared at her friends not knowing what to say. “Sessho we need to go, I need to call and see what time Bella (Isabella) is planning on coming home.” she whispered. With a slight nob he stood up and circled the table were Kagome was sitting. “Gome if you need anything call me, ok” Kagome stood from her seat and hugged him. “I will, thank you for being here Maru.” With a quick kiss on the cheek Sesshomaru turned to escort Rin out of the restaurant. “Sessho will she be ok.” whispered Rin. “Not for awhile, she lost her soul mate Rin, how would you feel if it was me or Bella.” Sesshomaru stated with bitterness. Rin frowned at him. “That was cruel Sessho. Why are you acting cold to me.” Rin didn't understand why he was talking to her with clipped tones. Inuyasha was her friend to, she knew the days ahead would be rough. Sesshomaru looked down at her and didn't know what to say. “I'm sorry, I keep thinking Inu will show up with a grin on is face and call me a sucker for believing this could happen to him.” he stated. Inuyasha was always one to play tricks on him when they were younger, always trying to get a rise out of him. Sesshomaru put the car in drive and merged with the lunch time traffic. His mind far away. When will Gome get a break, it seems she is destined for heartache and pain.
Flashback
“Maru, is Inuyasha there.” asked Kags. “No he is on his way home, is something wrong.” Sesshomaru asked. “No, I just feel week and I have a doc appointment in an hour.” “Gome, Is the baby ok?” “Yeah, she kicking the fire out of me, I think she is ready to see the world, I can't wait, 3 more weeks.” giggled Kagome. “Have you and Inu decided on a name yet?” “No, we have several we like, but we can't agree on one.” “Ok, well I have to go, Rin and Bella should be done shopping and I'm suppose to meet them at home.” “Oh Ok, I'll call you later tonight and let you know what the doc says.” “Bye Gome.” “Bye Maru.”
End Flashback
“Rin, I will be home late tomorrow, I am going to help Gome finish all the arrangements.” stated Sesshomaru. “That will be fine. Why are you calling Kagome Gome. You haven't called her that since she was a teenager.” she asked. “I don't know, when she called yesterday it just slipped.” he stated with a frown. “Why, does it bother you.” “No, I was just wondering.” Rin whispered. Of course it bothers me you idiot. That was your pet name for her. I know your feeling for her never died. I know if the past could be relived you would choose her not me. Rin mused. The rest of the ride home was in silence. Both of them deep in thought. Would their marriage survive. If only she would spend more time with me and not spending my money all the time, maybe. Mused Sesshomaru.
Kagome and the boys were looking through photo album. Smiling and laughing at all the memories that were frozen in time. They had picked out several of Inuyasha, starting when he was a baby to just before the accident. “Look, he was such a cute baby.” squealed Kagome. She had found a picture of Izzy (Inu's nanny) give him a bath. He was around 2 years standing in the bathtub with soap bubble covering his body and hair. Dark eyes shining at the camera. “You look some much like me Josh.” she whispered. “I know Mom” he whispered back.
Kagomes parents arrived late that evening. There was lots of hugs, tears, and laughter. They went into the kitchen her Dad was making a pot of coffee. “The funeral is Monday, at 10 am at Tucson Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest by Sarah.” whispered Kagome. “Dear, do we need to help you with anything.” asked Shori while embracing her in a hug. “No Mom, we were just looking through pictures trying to pick some out for the wake tomorrow.” “Oh ok, have you all had supper yet?” Shori asked. “Not yet, I'm not hungry and the boys usually fiend for themselves on Saturday nights.” stated Kagome. “Thats not good for any of you Kagome, Shori why don't you call a restaurant and order out.” commented Kaven (Kagomes America father) “What would you like dear.” she asked Kaven. “Anything except burgers.” stated Kaven. Supper went by without a hitch. They were know getting ready to retire for the night. “Mom, why are you sleeping on the couch.” asked Joseph. “Our room is to empty. I'll be fine kiddo, go to bed tomorrow will be another long day.” Kagome mused. With a kiss the boys went to their room for the night.
Kagome couldn't sleep. Her mind was blank. She was afraid to close her eyes imagining the nightmares she would have. When they lost Sarah she was plagued with nightmares for several months.
Flashback
Kagome was feeling light headed and decided to lay on the couch until Inu pulled up. Her thoughts were on her little girl, what do we name her, she mused. She drifted off into a deep sleep, this is how Inu found her. The picture of beauty with her round belly sticking out of the blanket. “Kags, wake up we need to go.” he whispered while kissing her forehead. “Inu I'm dizzy and my sight is blurry.” “Hey, did you check your sugar level?” “No, I didn't eat lunch yet.” “Kags, you know better. Come on lets check it.” With that said he went into their bedroom to find her meter and poker. Kagome sat up on the couch trying to make her head stop spinning. Her sugar level was fine, but Inuyasha was worried, her dizzy spells never lasted this long. “Come on Kags, lets go see your doctor.” “Let me grab my purse.” The ride to the doctors office was silent. Kagome was still light headed and the baby hadn't moved since she woke up.
Sitting on the exam table waiting for the doctor to come in Kagome fidgeted with her paper gown. “I hate wearing these gowns.” she stated. “Yeah but you look sexy in anything.” grinned Yasha. Kagome stuck her tongue out at him. The doctor entered the room. “Hello, Ms. Gates are you ready for some blood work and an ultrasound.” she smiled. “Hello, Doctor Thompson, The ultrasound yes, but not the blood work.” Kagome grimpsed. Doctor Thompson smiled. “Come on we can do the ultrasound first.” Laying on the table Kagome and Inuyasha looked at the monitor that would show their daughter. “Hm” Dr. Thompson mused. “Has the baby moved today?” she asked. “Yes, earlier she was kicking so hard I thought my belly was going to explode. Why, do you see something wrong?” Kags asked. “I don't know, I'm going to schedule some test for tomorrow morning, but I want to admit you into the hospital tonight.” Dr. Thompson stood to leave. “Dr. Thompson, what is wrong, did you see something.” “I'm not sure thats why I want to run some tests. Don't worry its probably nothing.” she stated then stepped out of the room. “Yasha whats wrong with our baby?” she pleaded. “Doc said it was probably nothing.” he whispered while embracing her in a tight hug. “Come on lets get you dressed and see what she has to say.”
End Flashback
Who else will I loose? Was her last thought before darkness of sleep stole her.
