InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Red Tears ❯ Confusion ( Chapter 8 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
“Come on, Kagome, get up! Sango’s leaving today; you don’t want to miss it! It might be a while before she comes back to visit!” Kagome was awakened by a high-pitched, happy voice. The covers were torn from her body, and the cold air hit her head-on, waking her up completely.
“Rin! She’s not leaving right now, is she?”
“Well, no…but don’t you want to spend a little time with her?” Rin’s voice was filled with hurt and innocence.
“I guess you’re right. Sorry I snapped at you, but you really should try to find a more pleasant way to wake me up!”
Sesshoumaru smirked from the top bunk, thoughts of ‘more pleasant’ ways to wake her up racing through his mind. Rin grinned sheepishly. “Sorry, Kagome, but really, you shouldn’t be sleeping this late anyway.”
“This late?” Kagome questioned. “What do you mean ‘this late’? What time is it?”
“Well, it’s almost noon.”
Kagome squealed and jumped up from her bed, banging her head on the top bunk in the process. Ignoring the jolt, she scrambled around the room, gathering her shower things. “Why didn’t you tell me that to begin with?” she screeched accusingly.
The thirteen year old cringed, but grinned all the same. “Well, Kagome, you didn’t ask.”
Kagome rolled her eyes and picked up her hair brush, tucking it into the bundle of clothes she had gathered, and then rushed to the door. “Next time-“ she was cut off when the door swung open and Inuyasha stared at her questioningly from the doorway. Flushing, Kagome side stepped him and raced down the hall.
Inuyasha cocked a brow towards the two occupying the room, and Rin smiled a gape-toothed smile at him. “She’s gonna be late for her date.” She stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Sesshoumaru’s eyes widened, and Inuyasha’s jaw dropped. “Date?” they practically yelled in unison. Sesshoumaru glared at Inuyasha, who looked stunned that his brother actually cared.
Rin grinned widely, and shrugged. “Some guy named Koga from her school is coming. He’s gonna take her out to lunch. He said that Sango could come too, but she turned him down. Kagome’s real excited, you know.” Rin stated, glad that she could be the gossip spreader.
Sesshoumaru’s mouth turned to a thin line and he jumped down from his bed. “I don’t think that she should go with Koga.” He said, trying to hold back his anger and jealousy.
Rin cocked a brow suspiciously. “Why not?”
Sesshoumaru hadn’t thought about her asking that. “Well…uh…didn’t you say that Sango’s leaving today? Kagome wouldn’t want to miss that, would she?”
Rin smirked knowingly. “Actually, Sango’s not leaving until this afternoon. She wants to know what happens on Kagome’s date, so she’s gonna wait until around five or so. Got any other reasons besides your jealousy?” She said cockily.
“I am not jealous!” Sesshoumaru said through clenched teeth. Rin laughed.
“Sure, and babies are delivered by storks to people’s doorstep.
Sesshoumaru just glared at her, and she sauntered out of the room, a smug grin on her face. Inuyasha shot a goofy grin at a steaming Sesshoumaru, and then followed Rin out of the room.
Sesshoumaru glared at nothing in particular, and rubbed his temple. Kagome, going on a date? What about what had happened earlier? When she had moaned his name? Sesshoumaru had to remind himself that she had been sleeping then, and could have been imagining anything. But still, a date?
Hadn’t Kagome told Sesshoumaru that no one liked her?
Kagome sighed as the steaming water sprayed her body, releasing the tension that had already built up in her body in such a short period of time. She couldn’t wait to see her cousin, Kouga. They hadn’t seen each other for years.
Right after she left school to come here, he had been transferred to her former school. Kagome had completely forgotten about him until her mother had called her yesterday morning to tell her that he was coming to visit and wanted to take her out for lunch. Smiling, Kagome stepped out of the shower and dressed quickly, brushing her hair on the trek back to her room.
When she entered the room, Sesshoumaru was standing there, staring at nothing, pure anger radiating off of him in waves. “Sesshoumaru? Are you okay?” Seeming to snap out of his thoughts, he gave a brisk nod and left the room. Kagome’s eyes followed his retreating form, confused. It seemed as though he was angry at her. But why?
“Hey, Kagome.” A deep voice drawled from the doorway. Kagome whipped around to find Koga standing there, leaning against the doorframe, watching her intently.
“Koga!” Kagome ran into Koga’s arms and clenched him tightly to her body. “How have you been? I’ve missed you!”
Koga chuckled in Kagome’s ear. “I’ve been great. You, on the other hand, seem to be having some difficulties.” His smile left his face, even though Kagome couldn’t see it since she was still clutching him.
“Oh, no!” She said. “I’m doing great! Have you met Sess…” she trailed off, remembering that Sesshoumaru wasn’t in the room. “Never mind.”
“It seems that you have adjusted well.”
Happiness left Kagome at that moment, and her eyes dulled. “Yes.” She said monotonously. “Yes, I’ve adjusted quite well.”
Koga, noticing the change in her, winced and released her. “Come on.” He said. He led her out of the room and down the long hall to the entrance. Sesshoumaru watched these things transpire, and he was furious. How could Koga change her mood that quickly? Why would he want to? Didn’t he know how horrible it was to have Kagome be gloomy all the time?
An odd sound that sounded somewhat like a growl passed Sesshoumaru’s half-parted lips.
“So, Kagome…how was your date?”
Kagome looked startled. “What? It wasn’t a date!” she protested to two wide-eyed, grinning girls. Sango smirked at the denial, and Rin pressed for details.
“Whatever. What was it like? How did it go?”
“You guys, it wasn’t a date! Koga’s my cousin!”
Both girls gasped, and the smug smiles were swiped from their faces. “Oh,” seemed to be the only word they could think of.
Then Rin swooped in on that new piece of information. “Well then, is he single? You know, I am. And he’s completely gorgeous. Have you seen his eyes, Sango? They could melt you!” Kagome laughed at how similar these girls acted like her friends from school...ex-friends. Her laugh stopped when she remembered that tiny little fact.
Sometimes she missed them so much…
Sango and Rin saw the change in Kagome’s mood, and the looked at each other over her head with raised eyebrows. “What’s wrong, Kagome?”
“Nothing…”
Kagome seemed to be really moody lately. Sango frowned.
Rin’s eyes lit up when she remembered something. “You know, Sesshoumaru was really jealous of Koga this morning when I told him about him…I might have changed a few of your words around a little…he didn’t seem too happy…”
Kagome’s eyes widened. “What did you tell him, Rin?” Her voice sounded panicked.
Rin looked confused. “I told him that you had a date…probably not the best word choice, eh?”
Kagome groaned. “You’re telling me…wait…he was jealous?”
Rin giggled. “SUPER jealous.” She said.
Kagome’s face lit up with her smile. “I wonder why…”
Sango looked at her with a slack jaw. “You mean you haven’t noticed?”
Kagome’s brow furrowed. “You guys can be so confusing. Notice what?” Sango and Rin shared a secretive expression, and then burst into giggles. It was hard to believe that they had once been so down in the gutters that they had done something so dark to themselves. Maybe they were always so happy because they were here with people who understood them, were just like them. Kagome grinned at the idea of fitting in, and then returned to the subject at hand.
“You guys, what haven’t I noticed?” Her voice was gaining a little bit of whininess. Sango and Rin giggled harder, but didn’t say anything. Soon they calmed down enough to take deep breaths, and Rin answered her desperate question.
“You’ll notice it sooner or later. It’s just surprising that you haven’t noticed already.” With one last grin, she left, closing the door behind her, and leaving Kagome alone with Sango in Sango’s room.
Miroku burst through the door seconds later. “Oh, Sango I-“ He stopped his sentence when he noticed Kagome there. “I was afraid that you had already left.” Sango grinned.
“Officially, I have. I’m using my ‘visiting hours’ now.”
Miroku’s face fell slightly, barely a fraction of an inch. “Oh.”
Kagome smiled secretly to herself, and stood. “Maybe I should leave.”
Immediately, Sango shot up from her position on the bed that was no longer hers. “Oh, no, you don’t have to do that.” Leaning close to Kagome as if to give her a hug, she whispered in Kagome’s ear. “Please, don’ t leave me alone with this hentai!”
“But Sango,” Kagome whispered in response. “He wants to be alone with you!” Inside, she was practically laughing her head off.
“Do you know what he does when he is alone with girls who are unguarded?!” Sango asked desperately.
“Of course I do, Sango! But you, unguarded? I don’t think so!” Laughing, she pulled away. “I’ve got to go Miroku,” she said in her normal voice. “Sorry I couldn’t stay longer, though I would have loved to.” Smirking, she looked at Sango. “Don’t forget to come and visit soon!” Cheerfully, she waved and left the room.
Sesshoumaru wasn’t in their room when Kagome entered it. Bewildered, she wondered where he could be. There wasn’t much to do here, he couldn’t have gone far, but she didn’t feel like seeking him out to apologize for Rin’s mistake. If he didn’t come back before she fell asleep, she figured it would just have to wait until tomorrow.
When Sesshoumaru finally got to the room, being sure to avoid Kagome all afternoon and evening, she was asleep. The journal Sango had given her was open and splayed over her chest, as if she had been reading it before she fell asleep. Her legs were twisted in what looked to be an uncomfortable position. Sighing, Sesshoumaru straightened her legs and covered her shivering body. He removed the book from her chest and put it on the side table close to the head of the bed. Silently, he climbed up to his bed and sat there, quietly listening to Kagome’s silent breathing, pondering about her so-called “date” that she had gone on today.
Rin had found him in the hall when she had left Sango’s room, and apologized for mixing up Kagome’s words, saying that Koga was Kagome’s cousin, and that it hadn’t been a date, but rather just a ‘family reunion’, or so she had called it. But if Kagome was related to this man, why did he have such a lustful look in his eyes every time he looked at her?
A/N: Yes, it took longer than I thought it would to update, but hey, it’s here now! Sorry about the confusion, it sort of confused me too, but I hope you can understand it better than I can. Or at least the same as I can…
It was supposed to reveal a little bit about Sesshoumaru’s feelings towards Kagome. Sorry I added Rin in there out of no where, but I felt she had to be put in here somewhere, and I didn’t really feel like going back and putting in a grand entrance for her, so let’s just say that she was introduced to Kagome by Sango. (This has officially been changed, now that I have added a place where Rin comes in, so please IGNORE this note.)
