Reflections of What Might Be
Chapter 6: Kagome's Past Returns to Haunt Her: II
~~~~~~~~~~
"You mean you haven't figured it out yet? Wow, your inu senses must be really weak today. You SHOULD be able to detect what she is without needing to see it. But then again, maybe you're just confused, so that's a good enough reason. You did only wake up a few hours ago, after a long two hundred-year nap. And don't think I'll try anything foul just yet. I wouldn't want to hurt my own daughter before she even realizes who she is." The stranger revealed the secret about Kagome that only he had known, leaving the whole group confused.
"Nani?" Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango all exclaimed at once.
"What do you mean, 'your daughter'?" Kagome asked. "Just who are you!?" Kagome sounded really freaked out now.
"You don't remember me? Well, you were only two when I was forced to leave, so I guess I can forgive you for that." The man proclaimed, as he pulled the bear mask off of his head, revealing his face.
Kagome gasped slightly, causing Inuyasha to turn back towards her, only to see a shocked look on her face.
"Otou…san?" Kagome asked quietly. "Is that…really you?"
"He's your father?" Inuyasha asked, sounding surprised. "But he's youkai, you aren't! It can't be possible!"
"Unless, of course, you're a powerful youkai such as myself…and is capable of casting strong illusory spells. I guess since you remember who I am now, I might as well release the spell I put on you." Her father said.
"But how? Okaa-san said you had gotten killed…she said you were dead and wouldn't ever come back! She told me to just move on and forget about you! What happened?" Kagome's voice cracked from her choking down a sob.
"She was right, I had to leave to take care of something in the Western lands, and I was betrayed and killed. This is not my original body, of course. My spirit wandered trying to find a way to gain my revenge. My body had long since faded until Naraku showed up fourteen years ago and gave me this body. Shaped in the same way my original body was, just without my youkai strength. It's a shame, actually. I miss all my inu senses. At least you still have yours, although you never knew about them. Until now, that is." Kagome's father waved his hand in Kagome's direction, and the spell was broken.
Over the next ten seconds, Kagome went through an incredible transformation. Her true self was being unveiled; she could feel her powers beginning to grow already. Her fingernails grew longer and sharper, forming into strong claws. She could feel her senses growing more defined, her senses of sight, smell, and hearing, growing incredibly stronger.
To the others, they could only watch in awe as the girl they thought they knew turned into a youkai right in front of them. Kagome grew two inches taller, her human ears retracted into her head, and two dog-ears grew up on the top of her head, much like Inuyasha's. Her hair was now lined with silver streaks.
To Inuyasha, she was slowly turning into an inu-youkai, much like himself. He realized now why he had felt so at ease around her. She was also a hanyou, much like himself. The feeling he was getting from her was the scent of a female inu, who didn't mind being around him. That feeling made him feel more relaxed around her.
And, he was slowly realizing how beautiful she looked as she transformed.
Before, he had thought of her as pretty cute, very similar to Kikyo in that respect. But through her transformation, she became so much more to him. He was the only one to notice it immediately, as the others saw it later. Kagome's legs became more slender, her hips and waist had much more gentle a curve to them. Her face also was lined with a single light blue streak under each of her eyes, her eyes themselves turning from grey-blue, to a deep green. From her mouth, fangs sprouted from her teeth. Lastly, something on which Inuyasha's eyes drifted to, as he began to notice a change. Kagome's breasts became fuller and supple, although he could only see, and not feel for himself.
**What in the hell am I doing, checking her out like this?!? I should be focusing on what the youkai that claims to be her father is saying. It's hard to stop, but I have too. She must be having a hard time with this, especially if she didn't even know she was a hanyou before now.**
"But…how is this possible? I'm not human?" Kagome asked, bewildered at her transformation and her new appearance.
Her father answered her, "Not completely, anyway. I didn't let anyone know you were a hanyou. When you were born, I placed a spell over you that disguised your true appearance from everyone, everyone except your mother and I thought of you as human. Only her and I knew the truth and agreed it might be easier for you to grow up in a human world as a human rather than a hanyou."
"But what about Souta? He's not a hanyou too, is he?" Kagome asked worriedly.
"Oh no, he's only your half-brother. It seems your mother got together with someone else for a short while after I left, and you knew him as your father for a time. Your memory of me had all but faded by then, so you had not known that he was not your real father."
"I have a question for ya," Inuyasha said, directing his question at Kagome's father, "Just what do you think you're doing here, claiming to Kagome's father? Your scents are similar, but how come she's half inu-youkai when you don't have ANY inu-youkai blood in you?"
Kagome looked to Inuyasha, wondering why he seemed so concerned about her. *What is he doing? And what does he mean, I have different youkai blood than my father does?*
"That is a valid question, Inuyasha. The truth about this is that I was an inu-youkai when Kagome was born. Although, after I was forced to leave, I was betrayed and killed. My spirit would not rest until I could find a way to pay back my friend who so graciously ended my life for his own gains. A hanyou named Naraku is responsible for my life and he gave me a body. I was unable to choose which one however, so I was stuck with this one. I admit, Naraku did a good job getting a body that was indeed very familiar to my original form. I do miss my senses from when I was still an inu-youkai, but having a living body to exist in again is worth it."
Kagome's father started to look at the group apologetically, and then continued. "I am sorry for all the tragedy that has befallen you, as more will come, and much of what has happened to you is partially my fault, and partially the fault of Naraku. My goal of destroying my traitor of a friend has long since been accomplished, but I still feel there is more I can do before I return to my death, and much of what has happened to your group is because of my doing. Miroku, your families shrine was attacked by youkai over a hundred years ago. Naraku ordered those youkai to attack, believing your shrine was the place he was looking for. The youkai were released four years ago, by myself. Sango, your family has been plagued by continued attacks by youkai. It is understandable, your family is from one of the strongest exterminator villages, and all youkai despise you because of it. That is why your family can never be left alone for long. Inuyasha, you too, have had your life destroyed by Naraku. He is the reason why you and Kikyo killed each other, although my daughter was kind enough to revive you. And Kagome, I have done my best to try and protect you and our family from youkai. They are after the Shikon no Tama that is rumored to be in possession of our family. I have deflected these rumors as best as I could, until recently." Her father explained.
"Because the jewel has finally been found."
Her father continued. "You have the jewel, my daughter. You have what it is many youkai have been seeking, myself and Naraku included. As a matter of fact," her father smirked, "That tree that crashed fell onto the shrine was caused by a youkai. A youkai I ordered to attack the shrine. His orders were to kill everyone at the shrine and bring me the body of the hanyou girl. Who just happens to be you, my dear. The spell that hides your true self could be broken in one of three ways: should I release the spell, should you die, or if your powers grew to be stronger than the spell's power to contain them. Which, to be honest, I never thought you would be so powerful while still so young. I am proud of you, Kagome-chan, but that is irrelevant now. Your progress as a miko is impressive, but it is also a danger to myself and other youkai. It has been agreed that you must be eliminated, despite my not wanting to. I have no choice; you are getting much too strong for your own good. You can expect many more attacks like earlier tonight to occur."
Kagome's father turned and started to walk away. "The next time we meet, my daughter, it will not be as family. From now on, I am your enemy, and the enemy of your friends. I am genuinely sorry that I could not have been there to help raise you, but fate would not let it be so. I am glad that I can at last look at you in your true form Kagome-chan. Should you see me again, only hope for a quick end at my hands. The others want you dead, but they want you to suffer first. You should pray that I will be the one to end your life." Her father said over his shoulder. He turned his head forwards and continued to walk away.
"Otou-san! Matte! Don't leave me again, I-" Kagome felt a strong hand grasp her shoulder. She turned back, only to see Inuyasha's face. "What are you doing, let me go! Otou-san! Otou-san!" She struggled to get free of Inuyasha's hand.
"Just let him go, Kagome. He's obviously not the same man he was when you knew him." Inuyasha said, staring after Kagome's father. Kagome turned back to watch her father leave her, for the second time in her life. A black cloud erupted from him, encircling him. A few moments later, the cloud disappeared along with her father.
Kagome turned around, knocking Inuyasha's hand from her shoulder. "Why did you stop me? I didn't want him to leave me again!"
"He would have killed you, Kagome. It's not time for you to die, there is still much you have to do." Inuyasha replied.
"How could you know he'd kill me? I'm his daughter, he wouldn't do that!" Kagome screamed at him.
"Didn't you hear him? He just said he would see you again, but not as family. He's trying to get you to forget him. He doesn't want you to be hurt when he comes for you again, which he will."
"I don't care! I just want my otou-san…" Kagome started to cry softly. "I grew up never knowing him…I only had my brother and mother…how could you possibly understand how I feel?!?" She screamed at Inuyasha.
Inuyasha's head bowed downwards, his bangs hiding his eyes. A low growl came from his throat, and Kagome immediately regretted saying that.
"I understand a lot better than you do. At least you still have family with you. Mine is long since gone. My father died when I was four, my mother died when I was nine, and I grew up by myself, a hated hanyou living in a human world, despised by both humans and youkai. My own brother despises me for being a hanyou, for having human blood. So I know a lot more about the pain of losing family than you ever could!" Inuyasha turned and walked away. Kagome started after him, leaving Miroku and Sango behind.
"Inuyasha, wait!" Kagome called out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I always wondered why Kagome-sama never mentioned her father before. She never even knew who he was." Miroku said, after Kagome had left, chasing Inuyasha.
"She never told me anything either." Sango chimed in.
Miroku was a bit surprised, but now at least he knew his suspicions about Naraku were correct. He now for sure had himself a definite target for his revenge.
Then out of nowhere, the voice of Kagome's father came back, "I must be going soft in my old age, but I believe you need to know this Sango. You should head home as soon as you can, for I believe your family needs your help. Youkai are heading towards the exterminator's training center, which is where your family is right now, with the intent of finally destroying them."
"What?!? You can't be serious, can you?" Sango yelled in fear.
Nothing answered.
"Lady Sango, if he is right, we must go and help your family. We should find Inuyasha and Kagome-sama and then start towards the training facility."
"Right! Kirara, hurry! Help us find Inuyasha and Kagome-chan!" With that, Miroku and Sango jumped on Kirara's back and the fire-neko leapt into the sky, attempting to sniff out the two hanyou.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Inuyasha, wait up!" Kagome called out to Inuyasha. "Onegai, yamete!"
"What do you want now, bitch?" Inuyasha replied, still a bit angry at having to remember his horrid childhood. He also knew that Kikyo and him had been tricked, and that is why Kikyo had sealed him up, and also why she had died.
"I would prefer it if you didn't call me names, Inuyasha. I'm am trying to apologize." Kagome said.
"What do you mean? You are a bitch." Inuyasha asked, slightly confused.
"Huh?"
"You're a woman right? And an inu-youkai, right? Isn't that a bitch?"
"Oh, that. Gomen, I guess I forgot about that." She said, which wasn't true. She remembered what she was now, there was no way she could ever forget it. She was a hanyou now, the same as Inuyasha. "But I would still appreciate it if you wouldn't call me that."
"Feh. Now, what was it you wanted?"
"I wanted to apologize for what I said back there. I guess I was a bit upset at seeing my father again, only for him to leave. Not to mention the fact that he said he's responsible for so much of the bad things that have happened around here. Gomen nasai, Inuyasha." Kagome bowed her head to show she was sorry.
"It's alright, I didn't mean to snap at you. I just can't stand to remember how I grew up. I guess what I was trying to say was that you at least still have you mother, and your brother doesn't hate your guts like mine does."
"Ano…Inuyasha?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think, that maybe you could do something for me?"
"Like what?"
"Teach me how to use my hanyou abilities? Because I really don't know how to handle all of this…it's just too much." Kagome looked a bit flustered, to tell the truth.
"I guess I could. It shouldn't be that hard, most of what you'll learn will come to you from your instincts. I really won't have to do much, other than just watch you." **Which actually won't be too bad…NO! Stop thinking like that! Get your damn emotions under control baka.** Inuyasha thought to himself.
**Admit it, you want her.**His mind told him. **And now that you know she's a hanyou, you want her even more…**
Maybe he was going a bit crazy to be arguing with himself like that, but he did admit that he was starting to feel something for her. He was only glad she wasn't in heat or he might not be able to control himself.
He then noticed a kind of distant look on Kagome's face.
"Kagome, what's wrong?" Inuyasha asked.
"I just saw something again…it was Sango's family…they're going to be attacked! We need to go help them!"
"Sure thing. But first, I think you should go change first, Kagome." Inuyasha said, turning away while blushing slightly.
"Huh? Why?" She asked. She then looked down at herself, and realized why he was looking away. Since her transformation, she had grown a little bit. She outgrew her clothes, and they were all fitting rather snugly to her body, showing off her many curves as well as her slightly larger chest. "Oh!" She exclaimed.
She then found her voice again, slightly embarrassed that Inuyasha had noticed before she did that she was a bit too large for the clothes she was wearing. "Ano…Inuyasha, could you give me a ride back to the shrine so that I can change?"
"You got legs, why don't you give your new powers a try?"
"I would, except that I don't know where the shrine is from here! I had my eyes closed for most of our ride over here." She retorted.
"Oh alright." Inuyasha bent down to give her access. "Get on, let's go."
"Arigato."
Kagome climbed onto Inuyasha's back and held on tight as Inuyasha jumped off.
Inuyasha tried his best to focus on where he was going, but it was a bit hard not to think of the girl latched onto his back. He could feel her breasts pressed up against his back, but he tried his best not to think about it.
Kagome could also sense and feel Inuyasha tense up beneath her. Her new sense of smell was superb, and she could smell so many new things, with such new intensity. One of the strongest scents she was getting was from Inuyasha. Although she was unsure of what it was, she was enjoying it, which confused her even more.
She then realized that Inuyasha was talking to her. "Kagome. We're here, you can get off now." It almost sounded as if he was reluctant to let her down.
"Arigato Inuyasha. Now stay right here, I'll be right back out." She headed inside and went to the ruins of her room. She'd have to figure out when she'd try and fix up her room, and get the tree removed. She reached into her closet, and retrieved an outfit similar to her miko attire. She always thought of these white and red robe and pants were similar to her other robes with the exception of the pants. They were slightly shorter than her robed pants, allowing her feet to move beneath the robes so she wouldn't step on the robes and end up tripping herself. Now that she thought of it, it was similar to Inuyasha's haori, except hers was white shirt with blue pants, instead of all red. *I'm sure he'll be amused when he sees this.* She thought to herself. She couldn't wear a bra under all her clothes, because she had outgrown all of hers when she transformed for the first time into her hanyou form. She figured that she'd need to go shopping sometime soon. It would be all right for the night though, as she had two shirts to wear, one silver haori to wear underneath her white outer haori.
Inuyasha was waiting outside when he could smell the fire-neko get closer to him. He looked up in the air as the other two humans came down riding the youkai.
"Inuyasha, where is Kagome-chan? We need to go help my family!" Sango called out.
"She's inside changing, her old clothes didn't fit her. And we already know about your family, Kagome had another vision." Inuyasha explained.
"She did? We heard Kagome-sama's father tell us that a group of youkai were moving to attack the exterminator's training camp." Miroku told Inuyasha.
"Huh. Hey, lets just do one thing first." Inuyasha paused, trying to listen and smell if Kagome was near enough to hear them. "Let's not tell Kagome her father warned you, I'm not sure she needs to be reminded of him just now. She's going to have a hard time getting past this."
Unfortunately, Kagome had heard Inuyasha. She had walked outside through the hole in her wall, and had barely heard Inuyasha say that. She appreciated his concern, and wondered why he would care about that. She decided to make her presence known, and thought that maybe she'd experiment with her new strength. She could feel how strong her legs had been feeling since she had gotten back. She decided to try and jump up onto the roof of her house.
She was surprised and delighted at how easy it seemed to leap that high by herself. She let out a little squeal of delight.
Inuyasha had heard Kagome's little squeal, and could also tell she was happy about something. He then could feel her getting closer and announced to the others that they should leave.
"Kagome's here, so let's go." Inuyasha said.
"She is? Where? I don't see her." Sango said.
Kagome's voice called out from above them, "I'm right here Sango-chan!" As Kagome landed softly on the ground next to Inuyasha.
"Having fun, Kagome?" Inuyasha asked, slightly amused by the girl.
**Wow. That's a pretty interesting little set of clothes she has there. It looks kind of like mine…huh. We're really a lot more alike than I thought. We're both half inu-youkai, and wear very similar clothes. Not to mention I feel so relaxed around her. Her training will DEFINITLY be a lot of fun.**
"Definitely, this should be fun learning to use my new strengths!"
"Let's wait until after we help Sango's family to start trying to use you hanyou abilities, ok? You might get hurt if you try to fight without knowing how to use them properly." Inuyasha said. "Now get on, we need to go." Inuyasha kneeled down to allow her to get on.
