Little four-year-old Kuwabara played with his new toy truck Mommy had bought him just yesterday. "Vroom! Vroom!" Up and over the dirt hill it rode, guided by the little boy's clumsy hand.

The preschooler's little head shone brightly in the noontime sun sporting only but a few fiery red hairs. (A.N./ You have got to admit; that is cute!.) The kids never made fun of him for it, though, lest he connect his fist with their face.

"EEEEEKK!" Kuwabara heard a little scream coming from the far corner of the playground where a few bullies were huddled around a quivering black ball. The boy stood up and everyone scattered at his presence as he ran across the playground as fast as his little legs could carry him.

As he got closer, he realized that the black ball was actually a little girl who was curled up in a ball at the bullies' feet. She wore a dirty pair of denim overalls and had a long wavy ebony mane down to her skinned and bandaged knees… And she was the prettiest girl Kuwabara had ever seen.

"Hey! Don't pick on her!" he yelled in a rough voice.

Kagome's little head shot up at the sound of his voice. What she saw almost made her want to giggle, but she kept it in as she could see that this boy was trying to save her. It wouldn't do to laugh at her savior.

"And why should we listen to you, baldy?" one of the bullies taunted.

Anger welled up inside Kuwabara and his little body visibly shook with anger. "Don't call me that! And don't pick on girls!" he yelled angrily before he drew back his fist, knuckles white with the strain, and punched them right square in the face. The bullies' eyes filled with tears as they ran away.

Kagome turned her dirty little face up towards the boy who had saved her life. In the light just then, he looked like an angel. A very bald angel, but an angel nonetheless.

"Um… t-thank you," she stuttered as Kuwabara held out his hand and helped her to stand.

After Kagome was standing again, she turned to walk away, but the little boy had caught her wrist. "Hey! What's your name?"

"Kagome."

"Hi, Kagome! My name's Kuwabara. Wanna be my friend?"

Little Kagome had never had a friend. All the other kids were afraid of her, because they said they got the chills when they were around her. She didn't hesitate before she said, "Yeah!"

Kuwabara's cheeks flushed as he remembered how pretty his new friend Kagome was but he quickly forgot and asked her if she wanted to go play with his new toy truck.

"Oh, yeah! I love playing with trucks!" she exclaimed, excited.

"I've never met a girl that likes to play with trucks."

And so was the beginning of Kuwabara's and Kagome's lifelong friendship…
