Chap. 9- Kareena's Role

Alone… completely alone… in the dark of the world behind her own eyes… she was completely alone, she had her friends but he was her best friend. Nothing could come between them right? Nothing but Inu-Yasha, the damned hanyou.

Now she had to find a new drummer because the trail of Rai was long gone. She had followed it until he had crossed the river leading away from the house. Then she had lost it. The band had come home to find her in a dormant state. Curled into a ball, sitting in a corner of her room, fluff from the torn up bed in one of her hands. The two chairs were smashed to pieces, along with the end tables. The mirror was broken into dozens of pieces, one of which Kagome had embedded in her hand and wouldn't let anyone touch it.

She didn't respond to anybody, including Kaede who was called with some hope. It was lost immediately. Her body looked small in that corner. She wrapped her arms around her legs and cried into her knees.

"Rai, where have you gone? How could you do this to me? How could I do that to you? I didn't mean it… come back Rai, come back." She whispered, standing finally walking to the balcony.

"Kagome you're up…" Sango's tired voice said upon entering the room.

"No, I'm just… I can't do this…" Kagome collapsed against her agent, sobbing into her shoulder.

"It's alright, look I already have Darren and Felis looking for another drummer. He'll come back Kagome but right now we need to make him think you're okay… come on, let's go get your hand repaired. Kaede came about an hour ago."

"I know… I'm not dumb I do have eyes."

"See you're already back to your normal self." She put her arm around the singer. "Let's go kick some ass."

They arrived down stairs just as the boys were coming home. "Good news, we found a drummer." Darren said looking at Kagome for an instant.

"Bad news, it's a girl."

(An: I changed Kareena's character a little due to the situation I made up… she is a back ground singer but does NOT play guitar… drums are another story…)

"Well where is she?" Kagome asked with bitterness in her voice but other than that it was normal.

"On her way… where do you want her?" Felis asked.

"The music room, I'll make myself scarce until she arrives… I'm going to find Kaede to get this piece of mirror out of my hand."

They all nodded to each other and then went their separate ways.

~~~~~~~~~~
Rai wandered into an alley behind one of the studios they had recorded at. "Damn it's locked…"
"What are you doing back here?" a woman's voice asked.
"Trying to talk to someone who I haven't talked to in awhile…"
"No boy should be running around by himself." The voice was everywhere at once.
"I'm not a boy…"
"Yeah you're that drummer from… isn't it Vapor."
"I don't run with them any more." He hissed back.
"What a shame, you were good." The girl stepped out. She bared a remarkable resemblance to Kagome but her voice was different, colder some how…
~~~~~~~~~~

Her hand throbbed violently and she screamed in pain as Kaede pulled the piece out of her hand. "Damn girl, don't ever do that again."

"Yes mother…"

Kaede wrapped her hand and sent her away. She sensed the boys and the new aura of the girl as she came around the corner of the stairs.

"There you are, meet Kareena." Darren smiled widely.

"I said I wanted her in the music room." Kagome replied with a harsh tone.

"We were going, Kagome, but we decided to wait for you." Felis stepped in.

"Uh huh…"

She looked at the girl who had not spoken. Her ears were that of an elf but she had the aura of a hanyou. Kareena kept her eyes down. Kagome smiled.

"Did you drag her here or did she come on her own free will?" she remarked at the shyness the girl was exhibiting.

"I came here on my own. They were asking people in the music store if they played the drums and I recognized them. Rai was your drummer right?" She made eye contact with Kagome finally. That alone made Kagome look again at the girl. The expressions shown in her teal colored eyes was amazing.

"All right let me escort you to the music room. You have ten minutes to get ready for your audition, time enough to get used to the instruments and so on… two questions before we enter…" Kagome stopped by the door. "One: Do you play by ear? And two: What exactly do you expect from this?"

"What can be expected? And yes I do play by ear, as well as from a sheet of paper…" she caught Kagome's eyes again.

"Well good, I'll give you a song to listen to for the ten minutes. Here we go." Kagome opened the huge doors and led her into the room. The boys followed.

"Darren show her the drums, Felis get me the head phones and the Demo CD from two years ago with the beginnings of `Don't Come Looking for Me'." She went into the sound proof editing room and turned on the recording machine. Darren joined her along with Felis who put the CD on play and plugged in the head phones for all three of them.

"you have ten minutes." Kagome let the CD play on the speaker which went directly into the room.

The boys watched as Kareena picked up the sticks and fiddled with them for a few minutes.

"do you think she can do this? I mean Rai was really good, he had at least eight years on him before we knew him. And we've known him a long time." Darren said documenting the young girl's every move.

"don't worry she can do it… Rai was good but there's better. Look at the way she moves, she knows how the drum will sound if she hits it a certain way, Rai… Rai never grasped that concept, it was hit it hard or don't hit it at all." Kagome watched now too.

Felis just looked on. "it's been ten minutes."

"I'll give her another two."

"lenient are we?" Darren looked away from Kareena and glanced at Kagome.

"right now yes… later I won't be." She said clicking the button to stop the music. "Ready?"

"as ready as I will be…"

"start when you want." The song started again. The girl started right along with it, no hitches. Kagome put on her headphones, which overlapped the CD an dwhat the girl was playing. It was perfect, actually the girl was better. Kagome smiled.

Darren looked at this and knew the girl had it, whatever Rai had she had it too, and Kagome liked it. The smile that was on her face was happy but there was something else there too.

Kagome walked out of the room. "your good… but I was looking for someone with little more experience."

"oh, well I guess I'm not what you wanted then. Inu-Yasha was right, no one can match your standards." The girl turned away and was ready to walk out.

"what did you say?" Kagome hissed violently.

"no one can match to your standards, is what he said." Kareena answered turning back tucking a strand of hair behind her elf like ears.

"you've got the job, for now. Let's see if you keep it." Kagome walked out of the room leaving the girl alone with Darren and Felis.

"I hate Inu-Yasha!!" she screamed when she was safely in the hall away from everyone else, but the shriek made the girl laugh.

An: having a difficult time posting because of my school's blockage program. I will try to find a way around it to post my stories. But I put out this warning: Do NOT be angry if I do not post for awhile… thank you for your patience!!
