**Chap. 13- And Deceit…

"Thanks Kaede." Kagome and Kareena said in unison. The girls laughed as they sat on the curb waiting for Felis. The purple dress Kaede made was draped over Kareena's shoulder.

"So you like purple. That's a new color for the band." Kagome said smiling.

"Yeah, it's been my favorite color for two years, I usually never get to wear it though."

"Well you don't have to worry about that now, other than black or white, purple is your color. Darren's is green, Rai's is dark red, Felis is blue, and I'm black. You'll see tonight." The dark haired girl couldn't stop smiling.

Kareena looked down the street to see the limo coming. "We better stand up or he'll run over us." They both burst into laughter again, standing quickly. Felis stopped directly where they were standing.

"Hurry up ladies, we have a few scant hours until this conference and we need to prepare for killer questions." He said as they opened the door.

As soon as the door slammed shut Felis pulled away from the curb and sped toward home. The car was silent until they got to the gates. Reporters lined the drive. "Damn, can't they wait to ask questions until the conference?"

The windows stayed rolled up but the questions of the rumors were still heard. As the gate closed the noise stopped.

Rai saw the girls pull up and left Kagome's room making sure everything was where he had found it and what he had done was invisible to her. He took a deep breath and then headed to his own rooms to change. Tonight was going to be hell.

"Knock, knock." Darren's voice called out.

"Come in." Rai replied tightening his tie. Darren stepped in.

"Well I was going to tell you to get ready but I see you've already done that. We're leaving in about thirty minutes. Kareena looks gorgeous by the way, you're going to be all choked up when you see her. See you when you get down stairs." He then walked out again leaving Rai alone to be tormented by himself.

You shouldn't have done it. Rai thought to himself. But if you hadn't she would have killed you. Calm yourself Rai, she promised you. You have to trust her.

He sighed and then walked down stairs. Kareena was standing next to Kagome in a purple dress that showed all the necessary curves of her body. She literally took his breath away. He stood at the top of the stairs looking down at her as if she was the only one there.

"Someone noticed." He heard Kagome say, directing Kareena's attention to him. When she smiled he had no choice but to smile back.

"Hello, miladies. You look astonishing tonight. Let me guess purple's your color, I`ll remember that." He smiled, forgetting about what he had done and what was about to come.

Deceit is a petty thing. Kikyou smiled as she saw the limo pull out of the drive way. Rai had helped her by posting the cameras in various spots in the house but tonight was going to be bliss. They were going to get grilled about all there secrets, every single one of them. She had even conjured up a nasty one for Kagome from him.

Payback was hell, unless you were on the winning side. Kikyou stepped into the little sports car and headed toward the conference.

Kagome looked around. All the reporters in the city were here, Sesshoumaru included. Since that night in the forest he hadn't come around much. It made Kagome wonder.

Inuyasha and his band showed up late. He sat right next to Kagome knowing it would unnerve her. His hand slipped to hers and instantly she was comforted. Rai was holding Kareena's hand and looked at Kagome when Inuyasha did the gesture. For the first time Rai smiled at the sight. Kagome smiled right back knowing everything was going to be okay between them.

Then the questions started. Kikyou was the first one who got her question in. Kagome narrowed her eyes. Damn, we're in for it.

"Is it true Kagome and Inuyasha are dating or is that a rumor along with the rest of what Rai spilled to the media?"

Sango started to answer but Kagome cut her off. "Actually, yes it is true. Me and Rai came to an agreement about it some days ago when he returned to the band that me and Inu could date. He has also found someone and is very happy with her."

Whispers went through out the crowd and then Kikyou raised her hand again. Silence filled the room for a second. "Then are you saying that the rumors of Darren being a drug addict and Felis being a convict are true as well?"

"They were once, but they have pulled out of that life to become honest, formidable men. I assure you nothing like that would be tolerated if it was done now by me or the other band members. The slate has been clean for six years for all of us and we intend for it to stay that way. Why don`t you let someone else ask questions Mistress Kikyou? I`m sure others have some."

"One more. I insist." She said loudly.

"What?" Kagome nearly hissed.

"When your mother was killed, was it that you were drunk and drove into her, shoving her into the wall and killing her instantly or was it one of your friends?" That hit Kagome hard, and she looked at Rai with tears in her eyes. She had told him that in complete and utter confidence.

Kagome stood, closing her eyes for a second. "I prefer not to answer that question." Kagome said and then walked off the stage letting Inu's hand go. By the time she was alone behind the stage tears had dripped into the palm of her hand. She heard them wrap up the conference, and start to call her name.

She slid down a wall ignoring the cries. It was Rai who found her. He made her look into his eyes by tipping up her chin. "I am truly sorry Kagome. I…"

Kagome but him off. "You told her. The one thing I asked you to always keep to yourself- you told." Her tears streamed still but her voice turned angry. "I don't want apologies Rai. You deceived me into believing you were my best friend. Not just a friend, but my best friend. I'm not sure you can gain that trust back. Please just leave me alone for right now."

Inuyasha walked up behind Rai. "I think it's best we get her back to the house and into bed. Go take care of Kareena, Rai. I'll take care of her."

"Kagome, I know you don't need apologies but I give mine to you anyway. I will see you in the morning." With that Rai walked away patting Inu's shoulder.

Inu waited until he was gone before he spoke. "Best friend's can screw up too you know."

An: I have thrown myself back into this fic., I will probably finish it before I go on to finish the others unless I get burnt out on it again. Trust me though, I am having fun and have plenty of ideas for it. Please excuse any mistakes I make. My editor pulled out on me and I have not been able to find a new one (not that I`m griping, my last one was a bitch). I am trying to get my ideas down on paper as soon as they come up but sometimes it doesn't work out. I'll see what I can do for you.

As for Bartenders and Brunettes and Cold Heart for A Dead Soul. I am also working on them but I am running out of ideas. A few of my friends have read and given me some good things to think about. I appreciate constructive reviews and am open to any ideas for these fics as well.
