InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Reminiscence Of Lost Love ❯ Survived For Questions ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Many long years had gone by since the fall of Naraku. In fact, it had been five hundred years. Many demons had survived to see the changing of the world. It was now the era, in which Kagome Higurashi had grown up, unknowing of the demons that lived secretly amongst the humans. At least, she hadn’t known until her journey in the feudal era came to an end.

One of these demons was the Demon Lord Sesshomaru. Long ago he lost his Lordship, but to those who were close to him he was still very much Lordly. Despite his knowledge of human life, he is still amazed that his human companion, Rin, still lives as a child, no different than she was the day he saved her life.

Eventually he figured that even though her life was spared and she walked as a living being, she did die. At death you no longer age… and that is what happened to her. Her death and being brought back with Tenseiga is what kept her young.

She behaved still as a child, though her maturity was beyond her years. She no longer made a fuss about staying with Sesshomaru, because now she very well could. She knew that as long as she was alive she could stay with him and she no longer questioned it.

These days Sesshomaru lived as a wealthy attorney under the name Maru, Sessho. Not very original, but no one questioned it. Rin lived as his daughter and borrowed the last name of Maru. Though his income was large, he still had more money than he earned from all his previous years that no one in this age had been born in. To explain his wealth he claimed it was inheritance from a Lord he had been related to some many generations ago.

When the humans began to thrive and demons began to die off, many of the stronger demons learned how to conceal their true forms for survival. These days you’d never be able to tell Sesshomaru was a demon unless you were able to see through the spell. His claws had shortened to the size of regular nails. The blue crescent moon, the red pigment to his eyelids and the red triangular markings on his face, wrists, hips and ankles were now the color of his skin with no indication of their existence left. His eyes were a light shade of green. The long silver hair had recently been cut short and his pointed ears became round. Yet, he was still very beautiful.

His loyal follower, Jaken, currently was living deep in the swamps behind his mansion. The imp had not ever gained the ability to conceal his appearance, and therefore lived in hiding from humans. Occasionally he was seen, but only by either Rin or Sesshomaru.

After winning one of his toughest cases, Sesshomaru returned to his home, ready for some time to relax. Upon entry to the house he removed his shoes at the door and placed his briefcase inside his office, which was just off to the right of the entry hall. He went through the door in the back of the office, which led to his master bedroom. The walk-in-closet, big enough to be a bedroom all by itself was to the left, which was where he went. Slowly he removed the business suit he wore that day and hung it up on the rack labeled “to the cleaners”.

From the rack of shirts he removed a green silk button down shirt and loose black slacks. The first three buttons he left unfastened, revealing some of his hairless and muscular chest, as well as the bottom three buttons so that the shirt was loose. His socks had been removed and tossed in the laundry basket.

He walked out of his room and proceeded to the living room, where he found Rin reading a really old book.

“What have you got there Rin-Chan?” he asked hollowly.

She looked up from the dusty yellow page.

“Hmm?” She said. “Oh, just some book about the Inu Youkai Lords.”

“Why would you want to read that?” He asked.

“I was just a little curious that’s all,” she replied.

“About what exactly?” he asked.

“Well,” she said. “About your past.”

“My past?” he asked, now showing more interest.

“Yeah,” she said. “You know… like before I met you.”

“There wouldn’t be much about my past in those books,” he said coldly. “I made sure of that. My private life is no concern of other demons or humans.”

“Would you tell me about it Sesshomaru-Sama?” she asked hopefully.

He looked at her silently for a few long minutes, contemplating whether he should or not.

She has definitely earned the right for me to tell her whatever she wants to know…’ he thought.

He sat down beside her, closed the book gently and placed it on the table in front of them.

“Whatever questions you have I will answer as best I can,” he said.

“Well… for starters… I want to know why you never mated and had children of your own.”

A look of sadness crossed Sesshomaru’s face. His eyes closed slowly and he sighed lightly. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but he wasn’t ready for that question. He spent most of his life trying to forget about it.

“Sesshomaru-Sama?” Rin asked concerned.

“I told you I’d answer whatever questions you have… I’ll not decline on that offer. Please understand, this brings up memories I’ve long tried to forget… and it still pains me deep down.”

Rin nodded, unsure of how to take this. She’d never seen Sesshomaru look sad, or even mention anything hurt him before.
