Chapter 3

Talking and Pain

"Shut up Miroku." Inuyasha said. Kagome was mad at him and he didn't like it. This would be the first time he was more than five feet away from her.

"I was just saying. How are you going to make up with her?" Miroku asked.

"Yeah, Okaa-san seemed pretty mad." Shippo said.

"I don't know she hasn't been mad at me since we've mated. I don't know what to do?"

"Well you could stop fighting with Kouga all the time." Shippo said.

"I think she's more mad at the fact that you doubt her." Miroku said. It wasn't often that Inuyasha openly talked about his problems so he figured he'd get his two cents in.

"I don't doubt her." Inuyasha said.

"Oh but you do. You fight Kouga because you're afraid that one day she may change her mind and go with him or leave you for someone else."

"Okaa-san wouldn't do that to you." Shippo said.

"Feh." It was true Inuyasha was sometimes afraid that Kagome would leave him. He wouldn't say it out loud at least not to the monk. He was also afraid that she would be taken away again.

"Kagome-chan are you ok?" Sango asked. She had never seen her friend so mad.

"Hai." Kagome said.

They both stepped into the river.

"You're not ok. You can tell me what's wrong."

"It's just that we had such a peaceful week and I guess I wasn't ready for it to end."

"That's not all is it?"

No, I guess I'm mad at Inuyasha. He always fights Kouga. He should know by now that I won't leave him. I don't like that he doubts me."

"Well he is an inu youkai or at least half. He is very possessive. He's probably more afraid you'll get taken away again. You should have seen him last time. You could openly see the fear in his eyes."

Kagome thought for a minute. Usually he wouldn't show any emotions at all until recently, only to her. Maybe he is just scared that I'll get kidnapped again.

"I guess Inuyasha and I need to have a long talk." Kagome said.

"You know you might have that talk sooner than you think. Isn't that right Houshi-sama, Inuyasha?"

There was no answer just a rustle of bushes. They both knew they were definitely there now. Sango threw a rock and so did Kagome. Two grunts could be heard.

"What are you guys doing there?" Kagome asked. The girls got out of the river and covered themselves with a towel.

"We were worried about you really we weren't spying." Miroku said.

"And what's your excuse Inuyasha?" Kagome asked.

"We'll talk about it later get dressed." Inuyasha started walking back to the hut. Then realized the monk wasn't following. "Come on bouzo." He hit him on the head and dragged him back to the hut.

"Well I guess bath time is over." Sango said. She heard another rustle and threw a rock thinking it was Miroku.

"Itai." Shippo said as he walked out of the bushes.

"Shippo what are you doing?" Kagome asked.

"Well Miroku and Otou-san came to listen to see the real reason you were mad. Otou-san didn't like you being mad at him. They didn't look." Shippo said.

"Shippo go back to the hut ok." Kagome said.

"Hai." He ran off.

"Your right we're going to be having a talk sooner than I thought. Come on let's get dressed."

They both got dressed and gathered their things. As they walked back they were talking about where they should go on the next shard hunt since there were no rumors.

Inuyasha waited patiently for Kagome to arrive. He leaned against the hut. He finally saw her and ran to her. "Sango can you take the pack back to the hut?"

"Hai." She said and walked away with it.

"Come on get on my back." Inuyasha said.

She did as she was told. Inuyasha took off as soon as she had gotten on. Inuyasha was jumping from tree to tree. He wanted to get far away from anything that could interrupt them.

He finally landed on the ground and let Kagome slide off his back. They both sat down across from each other so they could look at each other.

"Why are you mad at me?" Inuyasha asked.

"Because I'm tired of you acting like I'm going to leave you for forever. I don't like you doubting me."

"I don't doubt you I'm just scared that you will get taken away from me again. I don't want to lose you."

"I'm not going anywhere I told you that."

"Is that the only reason you're mad?"

"Yeah I guess I overreacted. I wasn't ready for the week to be over. There are a lot of things I have to get used to. I guess I'm not used to our mating even though it's been a while."

"Well we are newly mated there will be some tension. We'll just have to deal with it. You don't regret mating with me do you? There's no going back now Inu youkai mate for life." Inuyasha looked at the ground.

Kagome sighed and hugged him. "I don't regret mating with you. I just need to get used to it. I told you before I love you."

Inuyasha pulled back and looked at her. It was the first time she said that since she announced in the battle with Hojo.

"I love you too." He said. He grabbed her chin and kissed her. He licked her lips for entrance and she opened allowing the kiss to be deepened.

All of a sudden a youkai came from nowhere and dropped from the sky and into the clearing they were in.

Inuyasha jumped up and put Kagome behind him. He took out tetsusaiga and looked at the youkai.

"What the hell do you want?" Inuyasha asked.

"I am here to take the miko that guards the Shikon shards." He said. He was about 5'5 and he looked like a lizard. He had a yellow stripe down his back.

"What do you want with her?" Inuyasha asked. It seemed like lately everyone was after Kagome.

"My master wants her. He has heard of her new found power and wants her." He said.

"And I'm guessing your master is Naraku. You smell like him. So you are his newest detachment." Inuyasha said.

"Naraku is my master what he wants with the miko I do no know."

"What do you know then?"

"I will tell you nothing. I was sent here to get the miko and not harm her nothing more. So hand her over."

"You can't have her." Inuyasha said.

"Fine I do not want to fight. I will be back for her." He said and started walking away.

"Oh no you don't get back here and fight me."

The youkai kept walking away. They couldn't see him anymore. Then they heard Sango's voice in the distance.

"Hiraikotsu."

Inuyasha and Kagome ran to the where the voice was coming from. They saw Sango just catching her weapon. The youkai laid on the ground cut in half.

"We saw this youkai flying in the sky. I don't think he's very smart. He just stood there when I attacked." Sango said.

"Did you meet with him?" Miroku asked.

"Yeah it seems like Kagome is very popular with the power hungry bad guys." Inuyasha said.

"What?" Sango and Miroku said at the same time.

"We'll explain when we get back to the hut." Kagome said. Inuyasha's arms were around her waist dragging her to the hut.

"It seems they have made up." Miroku said.

"I guess so." Sango said. They followed them back to the hut.

When they all got there they sat around the fire pit. Kaede had gone to see a patient and Shippo went with her.

"Well what has happened?" Miroku asked.

"It seems that Naraku knows about Kagome's power." Inuyasha said.

"You don't think he knows that becoming her mate would make them more powerful do you?" Sango asked.

"He probably does now. That's what the youkai told us."

"We just can't get a break can we?" Kagome said. She had her head down.

"It's ok Kagome. We'll just kill Naraku and we won't have any more problems." Inuyasha said bringing her into his lap.

"Inuyasha is right. Now that we know what he wants it is easier to get him." Miroku said.

"I'm sure this time we'll get him." Sango said.

"I hope so. It seems lately I've been causing more problems than the shards." Kagome said.

"Don't worry about it Kagome we'll figure something out." Inuyasha said.

Kagome sighed. Now they had to deal with Naraku. Life was so stressful. She knew they would have to deal with Naraku someday but she hoped they would be more prepared for it.

Kagome turned a little she felt heat coming from her body and it wasn't comforting. Then it turned into pain. It was starting to hurt more and more every second.

"Kagome are you all right?" Inuyasha asked. She felt hot and she was shivering.

Kagome couldn't take it any more and she screamed. Everyone had to cover his or her ears. She was screaming really loud. Inuyasha didn't know what to do. Then he remembered something like this had happened before.

He needed to get to a river and fast. He stood up and ran to the river. As soon as he got there he jumped in with her. He didn't even bother to undress either of them. Then he leaned against a boulder and tried to comfort her.

She had stopped screaming but she still looked like she was in pain. Sango and Miroku ran to the river. They too jumped in with their clothes on.

"Is she ok?" Sango asked.

"I don't know. She stopped screaming but she still looks like she's in pain." Inuyasha said.

"Hasn't this happened before? The pain." Miroku asked.

"Hai but it wasn't this bad. I've never heard her scream so loud even when she was in trouble." Inuyasha said.

"It looks like she's better now." Miroku said.

"Miroku she's passed out." Inuyasha said.

"Well let's hope she cannot feel the pain in her sleep."

"Let's go back to the hut I think we all need some dry clothes." Sango said.

They all got up and headed back to the hut. They were all going to have to wait for Kagome to wake up.
